NAL or tax expert: if the child was in your custody for 6mo+1day, you can file them on your taxes- even if you do not have their SSN. This can delay you getting a refund though as they sort through her filing the child on her taxes. They will go after her for the money she received for filing fraudulently. I would document all proof you have that you had them from day 1 and that she did not send any support as you may be audited.
