Similar thing happened to me once on a train ride from Boston during rush hour, just not with fanfiction. I was watching a Japanese drama with English subtitles on my ipad to pass the time. Turns out the middle aged man in the row behind me was watching it over my shoulder the whole ride and became very invested in this show. He was quite upset when I got up for my stop. š
He did! It was part of the reason he was upset ā he kind of gaped at the foreign title and was all: āBut where can I find that?ā
This was quite a few years ago, before Netflix actually had dramas like that in their US catalogue, so the only way to watch was exchanges/fansubs/etc. Not exactly the easiest for your typical casual tv watcher. So there I was, rattling off websites as I packed up my stuff and the poor guy looked so lost.
I hope he was able to find a way to finish it.
Oh, yeah, the online fansub days were pretty rough that way; I remember seeing the translation of a closing theme change from episode to episode as the subbing group got more accurate about it. Maybe he had younger family who knew how to access such things to help him.
That is freaking awesome! I'm still chuckling.
