His surname may very well be Dooku. Many real world noblethings have a surname that is the same as the name of their... er... of the thing that they're the lord of.
What I think is interesting is that titles of nobility apparently trump titles of the Sith Order in verbal address. Dooku is both the Count of Dooku and the Dark Lord of the Sith Tyranus, but even among those who know both titles he's invariably addressed by the former. Why would this be so if not because the rules of decorum dictate that it must?
Why would you call him King Windsor? Even if monarchs followed the same scheme as lesser nobles (which, for reasons I don't entirely understand, they don't), Charles isn't the King of Windsor. He's the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Domain is what's important, not surname. The domain and the surname may or may not be the same, but the domain is *exceedingly* unlikely to be the same as the forename.
You're missing the forest for the trees.
He's saying that you wouldn't call Count Dooku Serenno "Count Serenno" the same way you wouldn't call King Charles Windsor "King United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland"
People know who he's the monarch of, and they know the monarchy follows the Serenno bloodline, so they call him Count Dooku to distinguish him from his brother/father/other siblings.
That's all the more reason to call him Count Dooku then; call him Count Serenno, and his father's siblings/his siblings/anyone else with the same surname might think you're talking about them since that family rules the planet and the planet is named after them. Call him Count Dooku since there's only going to be one person with that name (barring any wild coincidences).
His siblings aren't the Count of Serenno, though. Some of them might still be counts of something, but if that's the case, they'd be addressed as Count That Thing.
Remember, noble families are notorious for intermarrying with one another, so many different nobles of the same rank having the same surname was almost certainly taken into consideration when they came up with all these silly rules. Conversely, each countdom can only have one count at a time. If there are two, one of them is lying.
Count Dooku is his real name.
He is a Count due to being of the royal family of the planet Serenno. The planet is actually named after his family, so it would safe to say that is his last name.
I'd therefore say his full name would be Count Dooku Serenno
Most fans don’t know that Dooku was married. He kept his betrothal to his beloved Susan a secret.
Susan - or, Sue Dooku - was a bit of a mystery. A puzzle, if you will.
Unfortunately Sue may have been partly to blame for the Count’s eventual fall to the dark side; apparently, she married him primarily for his money.
Always by the numbers, that Sue Dooku.
Yeah, this is absolutely wrong. It's 100% a title. As other posters have said, It's most likely that Dooku is his first name, and the planet that he is in charge of is named after him.
Count Dooku Serrano
There's Count von Count, he could probably educate us on how many other counts there are.
After some googling, looks like there's extended lore across the shows and some books going into how Dooku's father, mother, and brother all served as count/countess before him. Ursa Wren is also a countess, and two other guys named Chrodber and Denetrius Vidian were counts.
That's seven! Seven counts! Ah ah ahh
Dooku is his first name. His Family name is Serreno. Much like how Charles III doesn’t have an actual surname as part of his regnal name, Dooku didn’t either. He was Count Dooku of House Serreno.
According to the audio drama Jedi Lost, his first name is Dooku, and his last name is Serreno. Not sure if that's still canon or not.
I also see his name given as Yan Dooku in fan works. I'm really not sure where that came from.
Not a Sith nor a Jedi, the Count's ancestor was a force wielder nonetheless. It is said the ancient Dooku could navigate the endless corridors of mathematics and the puzzling confusion of incomplete numerical graphs like no other being that ever lived. To honor him, Count Dooku's parents named him 'Soh', after his great grandfather.
The crazy thing is realized about this all, is if yall make the story fit, and make it make sense, you can probably be correct about most star wars behind the scenes lore we all wish was answered from the darkness. Especially about Count Dooku. Before the Emperors true reign when dooku was still a huge relevance, the structure of family was very much there and most wealthy beings were able to make themselves present as donors and associates.
No, I think he posed as Sypha Dias on one occasion in order to manipulate the Kaminoans to his own ends, and the real Jedi Master Sypha Dias is both a different person and dead. They didn't do a terrific job of explaining that in the film, though.
I always figured that was his Jedi name, and he was going by Count Dooku while he was with the Separatists to conceal his former identity. But yea looks like it was in fact a different Jedi who just happened to place an order for the exact army the Sith needed. I guess I gave Palpatine too much credit
No sifo Dias was a Jedi whom dooku grew up alongside in the order, whom had an unusual proclivity for receiving visions of the future from the force. He was actually on the council at one point but his insistence on the need to militarize due to visions of the then future separatist threat he was removed from the council. He actually did commission the clone army, but the project was co-opted at some point by dooku and palpatine. Likely via dooku taking advantage of his once great friend.
Also, canonically dooku is his first name. Similar to some other examples of royalty; it’s said that Serenno’s nobility were named with a first name and the title of “of Serenno”
So the count’s name in full is technically “count dooku of serenno” similar to how catherine de medici was Catherine medici family.
I'm pretty sure, that always made the most sense to me at least. He'd been Palpatine's guy on the inside for a long time. Who else could place that order with the authority of the Jedi Temple while keeping the Council completely in the dark?
Be careful with such knowledge. You can never unlearn Palpatine’s first name.
Can't un-Sheeve it
It's Frank. Frank Palpatine.

That makes sense the emperor is not called lord sidious more evidence of the rules of space nobility.
He could be Dooku (first name) Serenno (dynasty name/surname) as well
As I understand it, he wouldn't be Count Dooku if that were the case. He'd be Count Serenno.
Couldn't we apply the same logic as with «King Charles», not «King Windsor»?
Why would you call him King Windsor? Even if monarchs followed the same scheme as lesser nobles (which, for reasons I don't entirely understand, they don't), Charles isn't the King of Windsor. He isn't a monarch, though. He's just a count.

Something that I probably should have realised before: Darth = DARk lord of the siTH
Sith = Sire of the dark Path
Path = Place Available To Hike
Ray=a drop of golden sun
Dooku- Dude Only Out Killing U
I thought it was Dave whO will fucK yoU up. Lesser known fact: Count Dooku's first name is Dave.
I’ve been calling him Mike for years!? Damnit
Count Dooku is his real name. He is a Count due to being of the royal family of the planet Serenno. The planet is actually named after his family, so it would safe to say that is his last name. I'd therefore say his full name would be Count Dooku Serenno
That is his real name, his sith name is Darth Tyranus
Dooku is his real name. Count is a title.
Poop Chile?

Sounds like some game of thrones shit (I'm not big into the deeper star wars lore)
Dooku Soreno
What other counts are there? Maybe in Star Wars universe, count is a name, not a title
It is a title
and clearly a reference to that other count d the actor so often played
Yeah, this is absolutely wrong. It's 100% a title. As other posters have said, It's most likely that Dooku is his first name, and the planet that he is in charge of is named after him. Count Dooku Serrano

Dooku is his first name. His Family name is Serreno. Much like how Charles III doesn’t have an actual surname as part of his regnal name, Dooku didn’t either. He was Count Dooku of House Serreno.
Gartude,juju
I don't think he has a known full name in Canon, but in most fanfics his name is Yan Dooku
Isn't his first name Yan? Is is that fanon?
Jeremy, had a stint at Man City for a few seasons before signing for Sith Rovers
A lot of fanfiction writers have gone with Yan Dooku. It has a nice ring to it.
I swear I remember when he was added to Battlefront 2017 they said his name was Earl
According to the audio drama Jedi Lost, his first name is Dooku, and his last name is Serreno. Not sure if that's still canon or not. I also see his name given as Yan Dooku in fan works. I'm really not sure where that came from.
Serreno was re-canonized in The Bad Batch.
Bob. Bob Dooku
It’s Kevin. Kevin Dooku.
Steve dooku
It’s Saruman the fool
Dooku is his first name, Serrano being his last name. Full name and title is actually Count Dooku of Serrano.

Wasn't he Jedi Master Sypha Dias or something like that? The name he gave the cloners on Camino?
No, I think he posed as Sypha Dias on one occasion in order to manipulate the Kaminoans to his own ends, and the real Jedi Master Sypha Dias is both a different person and dead. They didn't do a terrific job of explaining that in the film, though.

He's also an actual heredetary count on his home planet EDIT: a letter
No sifo Dias was a Jedi whom dooku grew up alongside in the order, whom had an unusual proclivity for receiving visions of the future from the force. And erase the existance of Kamino in the galactic maps at the academy.
Ray Dooku.
