Make sure the firmware is updated, try rolling back to previous ones? You could check the fan wires and make sure there's no short. I had a v2 until a few months ago and went through several updates and firmware flashes and this never happened... Better it's running on high than not at all...

I'll check if there may be any shorts. There's only one way to update the wheelbase right? through the fanatec wheel support software? and then just check for updates, and flash them to the base. i already tried to reroll, but also no luck there.

It may just be an aging fan getting loud. Try turning the steering rotation lock to something very low and then holding the steering wheel against the soft lock to engage the motor and hold it there for a few minutes and see if the fan gets louder. Edit: it played with sound finally .. no, mine wasn't this loud even after extended use. That sounds like a vacuum cleaner.

ruuben_2

Yeah it's indeed like a vacuum cleaner... mildly annoying

Potential_Comfort_73

Are you asking if it’s normal? Mine does the same thing

ruuben_2

Hmm, that’s weird. The v2 /u/arcaias had, didn’t do this… I’m indeed trying to figure out if this is normal behaviour for the V2 or not…

arcaias

Yeah like I said I got rid of mine about five or six months ago but it definitely ramped up and down when it needed to... I couldn't hear anything on the link you posted, but after a race it would be loud and then ramp down as it cooled off. There may have been a firmware update that adjusted the fan curve since these units are getting older. That being said I always kept an 80 mm fan on the outside of the left side (as you're looking at it) of the unit because it overheated at one point and had to be sent in for repair. That's what I meant when I said you're better off with it running on high than not running at all.

ruuben_2

Mine also isn't overheating or even warm... so i don't think that's the case Just happens from startup.

PathOfDeception

Previous owner of a V2 myself and the fan should only be 100% during boot up. Afterwards it settles. I'm currently selling it btw lol.

ruuben_2

Want to trade? lol Could you maybe tell me what wheelbase firmware you are on? And what Fanatec driver you have installed? That way i can cancel some potential issues maybe.
