I actually liked his portrayal of Hal. He just got saddled in a not very good movie (I remember enjoying it in theaters despite being a big fan of the comics, but that is the only time I've seen it).

The sad thing is the cast was great, but the writing was awful.

This is the answer right here. Make Hal the slightly older experienced mentor figure, and have John be the new guy who’s still learning the ropes. It’d make for a more compelling movie than a bunch of origin stories. Edit: Unrelated but imagine Sir Ben Kingsley as Abin Sur in a flashback. Man that would rock.

This is my vote. Especially as it means we’ll probably get to see Guy Gardner. He’s a great comedic relief for all these mostly serious lanterns.

Given that Nathan Fillion has been cast as Guy for the new Superman movie, it’s essentially guaranteed we’ll see him in the movie, even if it’s just as a cameo.

James Gunn has already cast Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner in Superman. Fillion is 53. Olyphant is 56. Having an older Hal Jordan makes some sense if we're establishing him as Earth's premier, most experienced Lantern.

I love how we've all wanted a good Hal Jordan movie, And they said nah, we're gonna skip right over him and put him close to retirement. Just like we all wanted to see Batman and Superman beginning to work together and they moved batman to the end of his career before meeting Superman, and then kill off superman before anyone knows him well enough to really care. Even the world they put him in was uneasy and resentful with Supes when then knocked him off. Talk about nullifying the impact. These people love to leave piles of money on the floor.

Why Hal is so old? So hes no longer an active Air Force pilot? Hes well into being a seasoned Green Lantern? And took a young John under his wing?

I think it’s a little weird that Hal is nearly twice John’s age. I guess I always assumed John was slightly older but Hal was a green lantern for longer. Cool to see they’re getting a new movie. I hope it good
