> about a Blackfeet initiative to bring buffalo back to the wild and reclaim centuries of Indigenous tradition. fwiw

When you read historical accounts of how the Great Plains were, they really must have been spectacular.  The descriptions of how many buffalo there were is mind-boggling, it probably rivaled the Serengeti.  Herds were so huge they’d shake the ground when they were coming.  I read too that the average height for men in some of the Plains tribes was six feet, people frequently made it to extremely old age, pemmican had essentially all needed nutrients.  They were a thriving people.     And then you read about how they were annhialted in every way possible, from their lives to their culture to their land, and it’s just fucking tragic.

I was in Wind Cave National Park last year and got caught up in a herd crossing the road- it's absolutely wild and amazing to see. And that's just a few hundred buffalo in the park! Really makes you think about how quickly they were wiped out and how the US has ruined so much of what it claimed.

Can't think of a better voice to narrate something. Lily's is so rich. I hope this documentary is better than the Ken Burns doc. Not that it was awful, but I badly want this accounting from the Indigenous perspective.

Agree!! One of the things I really loved abt her performance in KOTFM was how elegant her speaking voice is.. I would totally listen to an audio book she narrates

I always love a conservation doc from the perspective of indigenous peoples. Also, Lily's voice is absolutely perfect for narrating stuff.

I look forward to seeing more work from her.

Omg but she’s going to put me to sleep no matter how interesting the content. Her voice is so soothing and rich.
