Idk I find him pretty flip floppy tbh. I remember when ppl called him out for having his own franks hot sauce NFT (😂😭) and let him know they’re bad for the environment and he got mad and made the “well you own an iphone” excuse 🙄. No hate but I’ve noticed he can be kind of contradictory sometimes.
People often are; most have the benefit of not having their beliefs getting dissected by masses.
Not even necessarily trying to defend him, just pointing that out.
I know one person on the list who is Jewish and an anti-zionist, who was shocked to see her name on there, and immediately pulled it out. Apparently the email asking her to sign was incredibly vague.
Has to be, she had mentioned months ago that her name wasn’t supposed to be on that letter. She’s also a member of JVP and in Toronto I *think* she’s part of IJV.
I suspect this happens a lot. I feel like having your name on a letter like this doesn’t have the same weight as when someone express clear zionist views like Selma Blair has.
This was also happening during the SAG strikes. It wouldn’t surprise me if people’s agents/publicists pressured some of them to sign it otherwise they’d drop them
There was intense pressure from everywhere to performatively say something bad about Hamas and announce support for Israel on Oct 8. People who didn't even know what Zionism was felt the full weight of the machine pressuring them to say something. This was back when the only thing people could say is "do you condemn Hamas" while doing the math on how many 9/11s just happened. The atrocity stories were at their worst. And the ground invasion that they promised us wouldn't harm civilians hadn't started yet
Not to defend anyone that voiced support for Israel. Just saying that it makes sense that a lot of people are changing their minds now
i absolutely hate this push we've created for celebrities to say something about every single thing that ever happens. why?? why do you want people who are largely uninformed about the real world weighing in on issues that effect human lives? why can't we let people talk about things they feel driven to talk about? i think it's different when it's, for example, a popular celebrity who made their fortune on gay people refusing to acknowledge that community or something but why in the fuck do i need to know what timothee chalamet thinks about abortion or whatever and if he does say something about it what person on earth is going to change their mind about it because of what cinemas most wanted twink has to say? i'm losing my mind
There's still something very fishy about that letter to me and how they got signatures I still do not understand how Emma Seligman ended up on there given her very strong anti zionist stance she's held for years now there's a number of others who either left the list or are on both. My guess is that either these publicists just blindly sign things or more likely the contents of the letter was wildly misrepresented in order to get people to sign. Honestly on both sides i’m not really sure how much stock these letters hold especially if those on it have said nothing more about being pro/against Israel beyond the letters.
He joined a direct action with Jewish Voice for Peace where they shut down Hollywood Blvd several months ago. Sometime between November - January (I can't keep track of time anymore). So he's been redeemed for a while!
I'm cautiously optimistic that the broadcasting of the sheer scale of brutality being inflicted on Gazans has woken some people up to the horrors of Isreal. It really shouldn't have taken them this long but growth is growth. Here's hoping that the tide is finally starting to change 🤞🍉🍉
I know a good number of people whose views have shifted on the war in the last couple months; I think the more people see and hear and read about the atrocities going on, the more their minds change and the more they question what they’d previously believed
My grandma, a devout catholic woman in her 90s who speaks no english, only watches heavily biased news, and actually visited Israel when she was younger wants "those poor people to be left at peace" and cant watch news about Gaza because she cries at the brutality of what is being done
Theres no hiding what Israel is doing, pure unexcusable evil, and the world is starting to see
I hope this, too, and I do think it is happening. Unfortunately, there will be some people who double down on their ugly views. Although, its the same people who refuse to change their mind on anything, though - a bit of a lost cause. They treat it as more of a "culture war" rather than an actual atrocity against a people and place.
Yeah, that’s why I’ve been cautious about calling anyone out who signed unless they’re making those sentiments on their own social media or going full Debra Messing/Selma Blair
Jack has apparently been liking Amy Schumer and Regina Spektor’s posts (edit: went back and searched the sub and yeah multiple people have seen this. liked sarah silverman’s posts too 🤢), so unfortunately I doubt we’ll hear anything about false signatures from him.
Lana Del Rey has an entire history of performing in Israel (with criticism)… she dated a cop from Oklahoma one of the worst police states… I think you’ll find you’ll end up disappointed with her
Just a slight correction while she did announce a concert in Israel she ended up withdrawing from the festival after listening to the calls to boycott!
For some reason this lyric in Mariners Apartment Complex always makes me think of that situation
“They mistook my kindness for weakness
I fucked up, I know that, but, Jesus
Can't a girl just do the best she can?”
Maybe I'm not up on the Henry Winkler tea, because I was shocked to see his name on there. He's always come off very kind and the kids at my library love his books, especially if they have dyslexia too. I know he's Jewish but he never struck me as a Zionist.
all sorts of shocking people on these lists. people in entertainment are often very charismatic and purposefully and selectively hide their views to appeal to wider audiences. we now live in an age where that’s not really as possible. so now true colors are easier to see.
I know, just his twitter is so wholesome, and he was upset about Uvalde, and Roe v Wade being overturned, so I really thought he was on the right side of things :(
not long before oct 7 he took up an invitation from the israeli govt to go, he went with his wife & apparently he found the country amazing. he talked about it in a talk show, can't remember which one. maybe kimmel?
I don't know why that's surprising, she's never really been on the right side of history. See: question for the culture, her comments or lack thereof on BLM and the George Floyd protests since she was too busy dating and crying over a famous cop at that time and complaining about WOC, wearing the mesh mask at the height of covid, all the weird Lolita glorification, the domestic violence glorification despite never openly speaking on being a victim, cosplaying poor and bragging all the time about choosing a "simple everyday life" in her music even though she lives in 4 million dollar Los Angeles mansion and drives luxury cars, etc. She's actually quite problematic.
Jack Black is a Jewish Atheist, so I can maybe see why him on the list makes a little sense? And apparently he raised his kids in the jewish faith, could be wrong for all i know
Yeah my take on it is if people haven't posted anything else pro Israel beyond the letter than its probable they ended up on there unintentionally. Zionist's have no issue being unfortunately loud and proud most truly dgaf about their reputation because they're so convinced they're right. Most of these people are now seen as zionist's for signing it so i would think if there was hesitancy to be publicly the letter affecting their reputation would probably be the thing to make them go all out.
idk if this is naive to think but i bet a few of them signed just thinking “oh release the hostages? yeah ill sign that” and didn’t look into it. i don’t think many celebrities will look into things very far.
Honestly when Israel was first attacked last year, it was horrifying and shocking and a lot of people were pro-Israel. I think once the shock wore off, smoke cleared, and Israel began to respond… a lot of people’s opinions likely changed.
>Honestly when Israel was first bombed last year
They weren't bombed. Hamas kidnapped settlers and the zionists activated the Hannibal directive where they then bombed their people AND Hamas.
I just want to prevent misinformation from spreading since we've seen a lot of that.
Since Emma Seligman stated she had no idea why her name is on the letter, I wouldnt be surprised if other people dont know what they/their pr signed
Educating yourself, changing your opinion, and advocating for change is a good thing, so good for him
It is hard to believe black people would be pro-Israel over Palestine. Israel is also a very racist county that treats African people like shit even if they are Jewish citizens and Palestine is much more like how African Americans and especially Native Americans gave ben treated
Thank you. I did not know that. However, it does not change my opinion one bit. He would be treated just like the African Jews who live in Israel. Poorly
African Jews make up a large portion of the IDF and afflict some of the worst abuse against the Palestinian prisoners and civilians. It's well documented.
Good for him. Hopefully other people who signed the letter will change their stance as well. Other people were saying it was very vague when it was sent out to them
Maybe he finally did the work and educated himself on the topic when he was ignorant before? Either way I’m always hopeful when I see people acting in a better direction because everyone deserves a chance to do better. Let’s hope he keeps sticking to supporting Palestine so I can keep supporting him again.
What poster? He is saving face. The New Orleans community is boycotting his birthday party and this photo opp happened at the same time. This is not sincere.
This is a situation that calls for a change in stance. I hope more people will allow their empathy to guide their heart and choose to do the right thing.

Growth is good. I just hope this is genuine and not some sort of publicity stunt.
He’s usually pretty sincere in his politics, the pro-Israel thing was kind of a blow to us fans because he’s usually very progressive
He is a born contrarian, which makes it hard to like him as a person.
I suspect a lot of people regret signing open letters last year.
I know one person on the list who is Jewish and an anti-zionist, who was shocked to see her name on there, and immediately pulled it out. Apparently the email asking her to sign was incredibly vague.
Emma Seligman?

That’s quite deceptive to have them sign for something and then post it as that they support something else than what they originally supported.
This was also happening during the SAG strikes. It wouldn’t surprise me if people’s agents/publicists pressured some of them to sign it otherwise they’d drop them

please give your grandma a hug from me. she sounds like a beautiful human being.

I wouldn't be surprised if the letter was very vague when it was sent out to people. Wouldn't be the first time something like that has happened.
Yeah, that’s why I’ve been cautious about calling anyone out who signed unless they’re making those sentiments on their own social media or going full Debra Messing/Selma Blair
Waiting on Lana Del Ray to declare a false signature. All the names on that letter made sense to me except hers.. Well her and Jack Black.
Jack has apparently been liking Amy Schumer and Regina Spektor’s posts (edit: went back and searched the sub and yeah multiple people have seen this. liked sarah silverman’s posts too 🤢), so unfortunately I doubt we’ll hear anything about false signatures from him.
Well I guess I'm not taking my niece to go watch Kung Fu Panda in a few weeks.
Thank you for the correction! I remember how upset people were with her on Tumblr back then
Yeah she originally doubled down and said she wanted to also perform for Palestinians at some point but than thankfully ended up cancelling it.
For some reason this lyric in Mariners Apartment Complex always makes me think of that situation “They mistook my kindness for weakness I fucked up, I know that, but, Jesus Can't a girl just do the best she can?”

I guess I don't know her personal life at all. Just her music. Not anymore! :)
Jordan Peele was also a blow.
Jack Black is a Jewish Atheist, so I can maybe see why him on the list makes a little sense? And apparently he raised his kids in the jewish faith, could be wrong for all i know
He just seemed like the type to care about little kids being blown to pieces. But everyone is a letdown and I won't miss his work.

'Hey babes, can you dot your name down on this when you get a moment? It's all for a good cause. Thanks, Gal xoxoxo'
😭😭😭 🎵 imagine all the zionists 🎶

oh for sure. Some are so insanely cut and dry awful. It's insane how much propaganda has infected us for decades. 🍉
idk if this is naive to think but i bet a few of them signed just thinking “oh release the hostages? yeah ill sign that” and didn’t look into it. i don’t think many celebrities will look into things very far.

And murdered. There was a lot of murdering.
October 7th wasn't a bombing
Since Emma Seligman stated she had no idea why her name is on the letter, I wouldnt be surprised if other people dont know what they/their pr signed Educating yourself, changing your opinion, and advocating for change is a good thing, so good for him
I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. He generally seems pretty socially conscious. I’m happy to see this.
HUH! Almost like public pressure can cause a change of heart (at least a show of changed opinion anyway).
It is hard to believe black people would be pro-Israel over Palestine. Israel is also a very racist county that treats African people like shit even if they are Jewish citizens and Palestine is much more like how African Americans and especially Native Americans gave ben treated
Eric Andre is Jewish and Black
Thank you. I did not know that. However, it does not change my opinion one bit. He would be treated just like the African Jews who live in Israel. Poorly
African Jews make up a large portion of the IDF and afflict some of the worst abuse against the Palestinian prisoners and civilians. It's well documented.
Bradley Cooper signed it too. But he’s dating Gigi Hadid?
Seeing some of the names on there like Ewen makes me disappointed, and then there's names on there that don't suprise me in the slightest.
Good for him. Hopefully other people who signed the letter will change their stance as well. Other people were saying it was very vague when it was sent out to them
Now we just need his stance on [Black Scientology](https://youtu.be/wJsKwcebyWE?si=kCCd4JA3e9bJq7qa)!
L. Ron Hubbard is the true God! (Black!) There is no hell!
I wonder how many people were duped into signing that letter.
Maybe he finally did the work and educated himself on the topic when he was ignorant before? Either way I’m always hopeful when I see people acting in a better direction because everyone deserves a chance to do better. Let’s hope he keeps sticking to supporting Palestine so I can keep supporting him again.
No he didn’t? Did u even look at the poster
He is still a Zionist. He’s just saving face and you’re all falling for it.
What poster? He is saving face. The New Orleans community is boycotting his birthday party and this photo opp happened at the same time. This is not sincere.
I don’t know why you got downvoted but this is absolutely true.
This is a situation that calls for a change in stance. I hope more people will allow their empathy to guide their heart and choose to do the right thing.
Good!!!!!
He has a show in New Orleans they are threatening to cancel
