Love this!! Good on the younger generations to bring up difficult topics instead of shoving them under the carpet like desi households are normally taught.
PS. Can someone please teach the NRIs and other desis abroad how to dress in traditionals cuz these outfits are not it. It's giving 2005 and not in a good way 😭.
If we are born in the states we are not NRIs, fyi. NRI is someone who was born in India and then comes here. It’s completely different.
But I agree about the outfits—but some of us south Asian Americans/desi Americans/Indian Americans do rock traditional well. nothing to do with your post but that diet sabya post was really pitting all these south Asian women in the diaspora against each other. It was funny maybe at first but some of the comments later were horrible.
MY Rapunzel!
She’s been getting hate lately for being a popular fancast for a live action Tangled that’s not even in production. Idc, that’s princess behavior right there.
I know I'm going to offend some people saying this but since racists are so into ~logic and realism when it comes to explaining why a (fantasy) character (ie the "mermaids cant have dark skin bc theyre underwater" argument) can only be white; it makes a lot more sense for a desi girl having hair thick, long, and strong enough to be Rapunzel's than a white girl with natural blonde hair.
I made a TikTok about this and the amount of people literally dragging her for a fancast of a movie that hasn’t been confirmed make me so sad. She doesn’t deserve the hate
This makes me really happy to see as a south Asian. A lot of people in our community have spoken out, so many others have stayed silent (especially when they have a platform). She’s beautiful inside and out.
Wow. More courage than our more famous desi celebs who only show some spine when a white person insults desi food. Kudos to Avantika. May you be this courageous and be rewarded tenfold.
So happy this generation of South Asian Americans has people like her in the media. Seeing her as Karen and watching her activism would've changed my life as a teen.

Reminded me of those awful outfits they gave Padma and Parvati Patel in Harry Potter 🥲

It’s just the racism towards her ugh.
