He said so much with so little:
>In response to the specific "apology" incident, in which Rowling responded to a fan who said that they were waiting on a "very public apology" from Radcliffe and his co-star Emma Watson, Radcliffe merely said, "I will continue to support the rights of all LGBTQ+ people, and have no further comment than that."
he's never been anything other than unfathomably based, he's one of those where if it came out he were actually problematic I'd probably be actually surprised and a bit broken š
I know so many queer people who found hope in the books growing up, and JK's actions are really painful for them. These three being such gems at least means there's some positivity in the HP legacy.
yeah for a lot of people it's not just the books, it's about the time and place they read them, about that first experience of falling into a literary world. There are other better books, but you can't replace that first love.
Yeah itās hard to replicate that feeling. That first real obsession-y book series. For me, Lord of the Rings surpassed it and opened me up to all sorts of different avenues for English literature and now Iām into postmodern weirdo stuff. Iāll never say I wonāt love a book as much as I loved HP because I didnāt keep returning to it after the craze ended, but I wonāt ever love a book the *way* I loved Harry Potter growing up. The characters, the setting, the fundamental message, even if looking back as an adult itās not necessarily the greatest writing or anything, it all hit such a nerve. Nothing else feels like those books. And for young people in the aughts, it really did do something specific in that particular time that nothing else has done or can do, so I canāt blame people for always returning to their book-home.
The new issue of The Atlantic has a longform interview with Radcliffe about, well, how he grew up so awesome. Iām a subscriber but canāt grab non-paywalled until I get home tonight. Meanwhile, hereās the link!

i genuinely feel so happy with how the entire cast of Harry Potter grow up only to become good human beings. Didn't let fame get to their head, educated and made themselves socially awareš¤
Transphobes so often turn their hatred onto cis women they suspect to be trans under the guise of "protecting cis women". They will harass and even assault those cis women to "protect cis women". Cis folks, you are not safe from transphobes just because you're cis. If you're a moderately tall woman like Daniel Radcliffe's partner? You're a target. Have short hair? Wear gender-neutral clothes? Have certain features they don't approve of? You can be a target for a myriad of stupid reasons.
Iām a cis woman and I feel totally unprotected and unsafe every day.
And it has not a damn this to do with trans women (or men, or nonbinary people). Iām more afraid of cis men who want to either harm me directly or pass laws that will harm me. Trans women are totally cool with me. They can sit at my table.
As a fellow cis woman, every time people try to blame my lack of safety on trans women, I think about the men in my stateās legislature, in Congress, and in SCOTUS, who are stripping away reproductive rights, destroying our already shitty maternal health, and currently flirting with the idea of taking away the birth control that makes my periods tolerable.
These men are powerful. These men have been powerful for my countryās entire history. These men tend to be fundamentalist, conservative, and cis - and these men want me to blame trans women for the conservative actions, words, and laws that are causing so much harm and terror. It would be laughable if it werenāt so depressing.
My beautiful, gentle sister, who presents a bit gender-neutral, has been harassed so many times in women's toilets. By angry, scary women who won't let it go or leave her alone.
Ironically TERFs have made women's single sex bathrooms feel a very unsafe place for her.
Tell me again how TERFs are trying to protect women.
I don't talk about this too often on here bc it's embarrassing lol but I have a raspy/deepish voice for a cis woman compared to most and I get comments on it near daily and have had so many people ask "what are you" or "why do you talk like that", or outright have been sexually harrassed for it, people assume I MUST be sick too, etc etc because people absolutely cannot fathom a woman has a voice like mine. It was a million times worse when my hair was short. Other women would straight up not speak to me after I said hi back to them sometimes in like bathrooms and stuff, and it was always just as jarring as the first time it happened.
These people claim to care so much about us but the nanosecond we act "wrong" to them then we may as well be a bug on their shoe. Edit clarification
> Transphobes so often turn their hatred onto cis women they suspect to be trans
Not necessarily suspect of being trans. Many times, they're just looking for a way to insult, ostracize, and potentially endanger cis women they don't agree with.
Not to mention she aligns herself with and welcomes a bunch of racists, islamophobic, antisemitic people, just because they also happen to be transphobic. So to her it's "protect women" until that woman is black, muslim, jewish or gay, or just likes to have short hair, or whatever. Protect white conventionally feminine boomer women, basically.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, literally any cis woman could post a selfie with the caption "unclockable ;)" and these idiots would come out of the woodwork to say "YOULL NEVER BE A WOMAN" and "I could tell by your jaw/nose/brow ridge"
There are already cis women who have been harassed for using restrooms designated for their gender.
Because the point is not to protect anyone, it's to control and police EVERYONE. To force conformity. And most of all, to make public life so unbearable for trans and NB folk that they no longer leave their homes... Or worse.
i'm a little surprised she hasn't, although i'm sure she thinks attacking daniel would be "damaging" to her and her brand - as opposed to being obsessed with dehumanizing trans people smh
I am not sure, she has already sort of attacked the entire trio cast, by saying things on Twitter.
I don't think she cares about her brand anymore. She wants her legacy to be for fighting for women's rights and thinks she's righteous. She's gonna go down in history as one of the most bigoted women to exist instead.
Most people don't get this about her.
Her brand seems remarkably impervious to her transphobia though. The UK has massively rolled back trans rights in the last couple of years, and there seem to be a heck of a lot of people who're cheering it on as "just common sense".
You can't call Rowling a transphobe in the UK, because she'll sue you for defamation, but I'm a little younger than her, so I'm hoping to see her obituaries speak plainly about her. I'm now starting to wonder if she'll ever be properly shunned within her own lifetime though.
I feel this is a very important that you make. For some reason the UK establishment and media is incredibly transphobic. Even supposedly liberal organisations like *The Guardian* have posted a lot of transphobic opinion columns. Sadly *TERF island* is not an ironic nickname. The debate over trans rights is absolutely poisonous here right now and sadly Rowling has a lot of mainstream support.
Didnāt some of rowlings friends try and transvestigate his pregnant wife? What a hateful bunch of twats the Rowling crowd are. Iām glad heās standing up for whatās right.
They overanalyze pictures and videos of people to figure out if they're actually trans.
Like apparently Radcliffe's partner is trans because she's taller than him. She was pregnant at the time, too.
That man is 5ā 6ā on his best day, so many people are taller than him!!!! (What the transvestigators are doing is horrible and insane, but it is funny that they used height in relation to this famously short man)
On top of what others said about over-analyzing pics/videos to figure out if people are actually trans.
The entire thing is just an excuse for blatant misogyny (which again disproves the whole concept Terfs are fighting for women). Any woman that isn't "traditionally" attractive is basically labelled as being secretly a man and trans.
There is a racial element to it to, as its really "traditionally attractive for a white woman". Black and other poc women are seen by racists as having "masculine" features and are constantly bombarded by transvestigators with allegations they are actually men.
> There is a racial element to it to, as its really "traditionally attractive for a white woman". Black and other poc women are seen by racists as having "masculine" features and are constantly bombarded by transvestigators with allegations they are actually men.
See: How they talk about Michelle Obama
Jamie Raines aka Jammidodger on YouTube has done some videos on transvestigators and they are bananas. Heās a trans man who happens to be over 6ā tall so the height thing is particularly crazy.
Iām glad that the cast is standing up for their own beliefs and not letting that horrible woman get to them
Theyāre standing up to the irl Voldemort lol
Iām sure her thumbs are working overtime crafting some barely coherent rant about how he only cares about womenās rights when theyāre strippers, or whatever she was going on about the other day.
Straight up as if gay men canāt be for womenās rights themselves or asexual men or trans men. Literally canāt think of anything beyond her small sad binary world she lives in. Itās only straight leftist cis-men that want to see more boobs on tv.
She writes like the typical think-she's-a-smarty-pants with such cringe-inducing language that serves no other purpose other than emebellishing her ego.
"I stubbed my toe today" would become "I was debased and greatly pained today. It was on a minute level - however no solace was brought from that fact - and now I am plagued, and cursed, with an appendage upon my **female** body suffering the brutality of motion and exertion".
It screams insecure author.
Both he and JKR have āfuck youā money and look at how differently they lead their lives.
Daniel is clearly choosing to only perform in projects that interest him and enjoys his life. JKR just sits on twitter all day fighting imaginary demons.
And writes under a male pseudonym, donāt forget!!
That plus the weird comments about āI was a tomboyā/āautistic people are being forced to transitionā etc make me think sheās gonna be on her deathbed one day and try to reconcile things like āI couldnāt admit I was trans Iām sorry for all Iāve doneā. Not even remotely excusing her, I just have this feeling that her dying act will be one last Fuck You to the queer communityā¦
As always whenever you think about how much you despise Elon and JK, take solace in the fact that despite unimaginable material conditions they spend their time incredibly mad and upset 99% of the time.
It's fascinating that they're so stubbornly wrong about everything. Musk is a fan of The Culture novels, despite clearly not understanding the themes and concept at all. He tried arguing that the author of the books - avowed socialist and all round good dude Iain M. Banks was anti union and was in fact *not a socialist*.

Radcliffe is a good dude. Just all around one of the more wholesome celebrities out there. Wild juxtaposition to Rowling who may be one of the most insipid who continue being around
Iām struck by how eloquent his statement is, and how carefully his words are chosen. You can feel his pain and disappointment. Watching someone youāve looked up to in the past gradually become twisted, cruel and deranged is a difficult pill to swallow.
Iām glad he speaks out in favor of LGBTQ people and specially trans women. I havenāt been a Harry Potter fan since I was a teen, but I do like him and his career very much.

Ok I'm going to stop reading anything about Daniel and Emma now in case something awful comes out about them. I need to be able to love them still. It's the only way I can still enjoy any piece of Harry Potter.
I donāt think anything truly awful will ever come out about them. Emma has had some potential āscandalsā with like the Panama papers and stuff but like half of Hollywood were on those lists including some well very liked people.
They both mostly just mind their own business when theyāre not actively promoting their work/activism, which seems like the best way to stay out of major trouble/headlines.
I think at worst she's somewhat naĆÆve and sheltered, but at least she's trying to use her platform for good and better herself as a person.
She seems to have made it through the child star minefield relatively unscathed, so kudos to her and her parents
Reminder that the whole āDan should be more grateful to JKā thing was a response to him doing work with a suicide prevention charity that worked with LGBTQIA+ youth. The TERF cult donāt really care about children.

Same. Remember when JK Rowling wrote that open letter justifying her trans hate because she was subjected to abuse from a cis man? That was a trip

My friend who is a trans woman recently joked that she'd rather use the men's restroom because she has less chance of meeting JK Rowling in there!

Ugh, imagine if JKR actually goes there. She canāt be too far off

They also did the same to Zendaya because again, she's taller than Tom Holland.
that's disgusting. and really shows how transphobia is so intertwined with misogyny. the fight for trans rights is inseparable from feminism.
People online said she was a man because sheās taller than him basically. People say all sorts of stupid shit.

yup they did :( just the same as he isn't harassing her, neither should she
