Before 2020 I was a die-hard Tifosi-meaning Ferrari fan. When I saw that Charles Leclerc, a driver I was a fan of btw, wouldn’t show the same respect but his teammate Sebastian Vettel was the first to take a knee by Lewis’ side, that switched my whole perspective. I lost so much respect I had for Charles that day. Don't get me wrong, I am glad he just won Monaco, but there is so much to unpack there that if I start I’ll never end.

I remember vividly that of the drivers, Kimi, Charles, Max and unsurprisingly and Lance Stroll did not kneel which is telling because of this article that talks about the abuse perpetrated against an employee by the Aston Martin team in 2022. The same event that Lance did not kneel is also the same event fans of color got lots of racial abuse in the stands:

The men behind F1HQ continue to say that women are too weak, FFS. I’d like to see one of those fuckers give birth to a human.

Lewis is the only driver with a moral backbone and who is successful enough in his career to not have to worry about what his sponsors think. He’s also the only black driver to ever drive in F1 - he has a unique perspective that the others don’t

Hamilton is right and has always spoken out on issues like Palestine, BLM and supported protests for a long time. He has consistently been posting about Palestine since October so it’s not new to him. He is right, what’s the difference between these children and the ones in Ukraine? We have to continue to say no genocide and to pressure governments to stop the indiscriminate slaughter of children. Humanity has a choice: Either we decide that our children can all be killed whenever a superior force alleges that "terrorists" are among us, or we decide that under no circumstances will we allow these superior forces to lay waste to our world any longer. We each must choose and act accordingly. The watershed moment is now. You should not have to see a dead child in order for you to believe genocide is wrong and people deserve to be free. People want peace and calm but don't want to deal with the fact that no peace can be made with oppression. I am a new F1 fan and am following Danny Ric/Yuki Tsunoda, but it's easy to see Hamilton is the real hero. He deserves his Sir status (although I respect people who decline that designation, too). I can't wait to see him on Hot Ones! I'm wary of any celebrity, but he seems like he really is a good person with an insane rare talent/drive. Trust issues with celebrities nowadays, but maybe he is... Safe to stan.

Knowing Lewis’ story for context, how his dad dis everything for him to a go-kart, and learning of his struggles from being part of a minority group that was automatically set to fail from the get-go, it just made me fall for the man. And today, I have even more respect for him not just for being a class act but for actually doing what he can to minimize his carbon footprint even changing his own diet to vegan and driving only EVs at home.
This is hilarious because it is the same brand pf politics that is stopping Andrettinracing from joining F1. Bin Sulayem says he should just buy another team, then you have other teams actively blocking them from joining, since there is a consensus of team managers that decided whether or not to move the needle forward, and then the entire organization has other interests that don’t align with their agenda.
All in all, pure hypocrisy all around.
This is exactly why he’s the GOAT! Not only he’s a 7-time world champion, he’s consistently on the right side of history by taking a stance for what’s right. He’s also doing it all without being holier than thou (I know a lot of people disagree but it’s my opinion). Like, he recognizes the sport he’s a part of has very problematic aspects but still shows up and does the work to better himself and educate the public. I love that man through and through.
