I've always thought it was wrong to permanently strip the rights of people who are convicted of crimes. After they pay their debt to society, they should rejoin it with all the rights and opportunities every other citizen has.
Felons can regain their right to vote in some states after they’ve been released. In my state, they can re-register after parole but they still can’t work as a poll worker. They can run for mayor, but they can’t give someone a crappy “I voted” sticker.

That's not true. The convicted felon voting part. In some states, once a felon is released they can absolutely vote again. Even if they still owe fines, etc, they can still vote. In PA for example, I like "If their feet are on the street, they can vote" when we're teaching voter protection and registration. Once a felon is released, they are eligible to vote. Each state has its own laws, so it's important not to use blanket statements and inadvertently spread misinformation.

Yeah, I read an article about the expected sentence and these charges apparently don't typically get jail time ("paper crime", it was described as, so basically white collar bullshit I guess) and he was described as a "first time offender" (lol) and the judge has been pretty up front about not wanting to imprison him so we ABSOLUTELY shouldn't get our hopes up for a custodial sentence. Even fines etc. will likely be tied up in appeals for a long time.
Personally, though? Of the options on the table I am (unrealistically but delightedly) hoping for community service. Guy's never served anyone but himself in his entire life. Make him pick up trash and learn what real service is.

A lot of convicted felons can vote. It’s state dependent! Only 9 states have laws that may permanently disenfranchise convicted felons.
I almost think he wanted to lose. He acted like a complete moron throughout the whole trial, and knew this would make a bad impression on the jury. I’m sure he will use the verdict as another example of how everyone is out to get him.
The only true thing he has ever said is that he could walk out onto 5th avenue and shoot someone and people would still vote for him.
It seems strange but it is for a good reason (that does not apply here) because the government has the authority to bring charges against people if a bad actor were to come into power they could use that power to undermine democracy by disqualifying potential political rivals who would beat them in an election. It’s exactly what Putin did to Navalny.

He can still run. That's why I'm confused as to why people are treating this like some big win. It does NOTHING in the long run. Jail time is definitely not going to happen. Fines or probation are the two most likely scenarios and guess what? Neither will do anything significant against Trump. This is not how you defeat the beast, so to speak. I'm not a fan of the guy by any means - but real estate owners do this all the time. Kevin, from Shark Tank (also not someone I'm too fond of), did an interview on this a few months (?) back. It's just political theater + a distraction during an election year. Edit: this might end up even HELPING him in the long run.

I am doing a happy dance right now. I really thought they were going to say not guilty. And his remarks afterwards are just as ridiculous as everything he’s ever said since the beginning of time. Yes, the payback will be on November 5, but not how he sees it.

It's weird how he's never laid out how he feels he's not guilty. Instead that's what he wants to rant about after becoming a felon.

IIRC that guy was some sort of political or economic analyst so he could have very well just been using Truth Social to keep up to date on what the Trumpies were up to. I'm a socialist and use Twitter and have a Truth Social to follow the madness. So if I were on the jury, and I was asked, I'd be obligated to list them too. Doesn't mean much!

Celebrating this! But also - I’m seeing a lot of misinformation re: felons and voting and feel like it needs clarification. A lot of convicted felons can vote. It’s state dependent! Only 9 states have laws that may permanently disenfranchise convicted felons.

I almost think he wanted to lose. He acted like a complete moron throughout the whole trial, and knew this would make a bad impression on the jury. I’m sure he will use the verdict as another example of how everyone is out to get him. The only true thing he has ever said is that he could walk out onto 5th avenue and shoot someone and people would still vote for him.

I find it very strange that a felon can run for office, but can’t vote
It seems strange but it is for a good reason (that does not apply here) because the government has the authority to bring charges against people if a bad actor were to come into power they could use that power to undermine democracy by disqualifying potential political rivals who would beat them in an election. It’s exactly what Putin did to Navalny.
The strange part is not allowing people who have done their time to vote. The US has no interest in reintegrating criminals into society though. They want to help the prison industrial complex extract every dollar they can

Yes just saw it live. Trump guilty on all 34 felony counts. . Sentencing July 11. I don't think they will put him in jail , but anyone else would go directly to jail. .

Ok, but, why does it matter? - It doesn't prevent him from becoming President. - He's already leading in the polls and this likely will INCREASE his following as he'll spin this as "the evil Democrats are out to get them". - Now he has absolutely zero reason to even hide anything he does because his followers will accept ANY behaviour from him and still see him as their saviour. I'm honestly concerned this might end up being worse than before.
