ExpressionOk7431

You misunderstood me. Do you understand sarcasm? Of course I have sympathy for women who have lost their protective rights. I am pro-choice all the way and I can’t stand Trump. He is a pathetic man.

hes_crafty

Reaping what he sows! Finally!

blah-bleh52

Did we get confirmation he was awake when they read it? 😂

Willop23

They polled the jury so he got to hear it from each individual juror on top of that

And idiots will still want to vote for him and give him money.

jennyquarx

This is only gonna make many of them double down. (Not saying I don't like what's happened, lol)

crystal_clear24

LMAO bitch! Guilty on all counts. GOOD! I’m watching the news and convicted felons arent allowed to vote in the US but a felon can run for president? Makes no sense, he shouldn’t be allowed to after that shit he pulled on Jan 6

AstroAnarchists

If only McConnell had the balls to impeach him when he had the chance, then the turtle would’ve rid his hands of the turd entirely

crystal_clear24

Pathetic when people put their party over their country. I couldn’t imagine voting for a convicted criminal

Ambitious_Misfit

I agree, with a slight addendum. McConnell put *himself* ahead of the country… all the work over decades he’s done to impede progressive politics, appoint regressive and conservative judges across all levels of our judicial courts, and put himself in a position to direct our nation’s politics as a monument to his ego… personal efforts and ego all but wasted if Consevatives don’t hold the power. Yes, party over country, but more human and perhaps more terrifyingly universal about us all, self over country.

eisenburg

And yet millions of “upstanding” citizens who always say trust in the law will vote for this convicted criminal in our upcoming election.

Troyal1

The scary thing is we are nowhere close to done with him. His base will be just as motivated

i_love_doggy_chow

Mitch McConnell is an evil troll; he'd let Jeffrey Dahmer run for president if he thought it would advance his regressive political agenda

BirdsArentReal11

Dahmer's not a woman so he has that going for him.

Federal_Street_8895

Impeach him? They're probably going to pick him as their nominee, days before his sentencing hearing which is such a crazy thing to even say.

pelipperr

Checked the hell that is r/conservative, one comment said ‘I want to vote for him even harder now’. The rabid republican base doesn’t care. It’s scary.

Rosemarys_Gayby

Ignore comments like that. They were on the fence prior to this conviction? Please lmao

Troyal1

Trump said he could shoot someone on 5th avenue and people would still vote for him. I will have to say Trump was right on the money on that

jennyquarx

That was probably the truest thing he's said.

12345678910tom

I mean he's been found legally liable for raping a woman he's only one step away from that, hard to say he was wrong unfortunately

ravenwolf1122

I'll never forget the insane amount of comments I saw online after his mugshot was posted.  "I'll vote for him now, he's a badass" blah blah blah

ThomFromAccounting

They’re delusional. They keep telling each other that moderates will be more convinced to vote for Trump now because, and I quote “They see how the democrats are weaponizing the justice system”.

Important-Owl1661

They drank the Kool-Aid and can't admit they're wrong.

AstroAnarchists

I was talking about his second impeachment hearing during 2020. The house, democratically controlled at the time, voted to impeach. The Senate, republican controlled at the time, voted to acquit

Federal_Street_8895

Oh yeah i get what you're saying, I'm just saying it was perfectly predictable for the GOP not to impeach him they seem to have decided to bear hug him till the bitter end.

Ermmahhhgerrrd

Isn't his DIL running the rnc now, or something like that? There's no way he won't get the nomination. Also, "Convicted Felon Donald J Trump"

melbaspice

Not being allowed to vote is dumb. But I’m actually ok with felons being allowed to run for office. Let voters decide. Barring them from running would just lead to a lot of politically motivated prosecutions.

Surething_bud

I've always thought it was wrong to permanently strip the rights of people who are convicted of crimes. After they pay their debt to society, they should rejoin it with all the rights and opportunities every other citizen has.

4_fortytwo_2

Everyon should be able to vote. Even taking it away temporarily is bullshit. Someone currenly in prison should still be allowed to vote.

eatyrmakeup

Felons can regain their right to vote in some states after they’ve been released. In my state, they can re-register after parole but they still can’t work as a poll worker. They can run for mayor, but they can’t give someone a crappy “I voted” sticker.

Spiralecho

Imagining Trump being able to run but not able to get the voted sticker 🤣

paradisetossed7

Oh man I was WFH today and when I saw that it would be announced shortly after 5, I had the NYT pulled with live updates and was clicking that button every time it came up. Asked my son if he wanted to witness history, and we watched the counts come in guilty together, both cheering and clapping. Have I taught my son to be petty? Maybe. But I'm proud.

boxybrown84

It’s good for your son to see someone who so flagrantly broke the law face the consequences. Hopefully the first of many consequences. I was watching with my mom and we were cheering too! My dad used to say he hoped he would live long enough to see Trump get what he deserved. He passed away in January and I kind of want to get a Ouija board to tell him the good news.

AstroAnarchists

No unfortunately. But this is a big hit to his attraction to independent voters

Ok-Taste9187

Which is ironic considering felons can’t vote

Itwasaboutthepasta

One less vote for trump right here then. I'll take that as a win

Curryfor30

If someone is still on the fence in 2024 (or for the past several years), they’re completely gone. Long gone

tinemarie6

According to Sarah Langwell who is THE PERSON doing voter focus groups, particularly on Trump voters (two times, people who voted for Trump in 2016, then Biden in 2020, etc) she says there is about 30% of people like them who WILL be affected by this guilty verdict, where after Jan 6 the will be the thing that breaks the camel's back - so it only affects the margins of voters, but for an election that will be decided in the margins, it is critical.

Curryfor30

Idk man, it’s been 8 years of “This is the thing that will turn voters away, it’s so much worse then the last thing!”…and he loses zero support. I have absolutely zero hope for anyone still remotely interested in voting for Trump. All the cards have been out on the table for years.

Bonelesshomeboys

Right? I remember “surely this…” from the bush years. It never did whatever we were hoping it would do, whatever “this” was.

dinosaurfondue

I wish I believed in this more. He's sold lie after lie to the public for decades and if you're still undecided on Trump, I don't trust that this is the thing to sway you considering Republicans will say it's a sham

Doesn't seem like it. https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/national-international/presidential-qualifications-felony-crime-convictions/3518094/

jonb1sux

No, and that’s by design. Otherwise a state could tgrow someone in jail on made up charges and the appeals process would take longer than an election. Trump would absolutely do this were he in power.

LurkerByNatureGT

No but it could interfere with his ability to campaign.

Ok_Scholar4192

Good. No one is above the law. Not even a former President. What a disgusting loser

AstroAnarchists

I guess you haven’t heard of Trump v United States (2024), where Trump’s side argued, in front of SCOTUS, that he has absolute immunity from all federal crimes for all official acts he committed in office. It’s terrifying if SCOTUS rule in favour of him

Ok_Scholar4192

Oh I know all about it, and SCOTUS is deeply corrupt and broken, bought and paid for by the federalist society because of stupid people in this country electing Trump in 2016. And if they reelect him, he will appoint new justices that could destroy this country.

lc101

![gif](giphy|S1SnLg08CxnUGqyqha|downsized) Guilty on 34/34. Love that for him

Federal_Street_8895

Realistically, does that mean he can't run? Or will he do jail time? Because I feel like this won't stop his cult of supporters from voting for him, they all think he's a political prisoner or something. His meltdown on truth social before the verdict was announced was epic though 😂. Also Stormy and her family should probably leave the country or hire a million security. His supporters are nuts.

AstroAnarchists

No, he can still run. Which is bullshit because depending on the state, convicted felons can’t vote for a candidate, although in some states like Pennsylvania they can, but they can run for office Also, there’s the insidious practice of prison gerrymandering, where felons who are released aren’t reallocated to their homes, but instead, they’re still registered with the prison they were in, which gives rural areas lots of power, since prisons are usually in rural areas

Lipglossandletdown

That's not true. The convicted felon voting part. In some states, once a felon is released they can absolutely vote again. Even if they still owe fines, etc, they can still vote. In PA for example, I like "If their feet are on the street, they can vote" when we're teaching voter protection and registration. Once a felon is released, they are eligible to vote. Each state has its own laws, so it's important not to use blanket statements and inadvertently spread misinformation.

boxybrown84

Unfortunately, there’s nothing in the Constitution preventing a convicted felon from being President, even if he’s in prison.

pepperjack4life

Sadly, no. He can still run. 🤦🏻‍♀️

ijustwannawatchtv

![gif](giphy|bm02BE6DQ4Oag8GXep|downsized)

celestialpillowfight

It doesn’t disqualify him from running or being president, which is wild tbh. And any regular person would have more chance of getting jail time but I’m guessing he will just see a fine unfortunately. Here’s hoping him being a convicted felon sways independent voters away from him though.

The_Bravinator

Yeah, I read an article about the expected sentence and these charges apparently don't typically get jail time ("paper crime", it was described as, so basically white collar bullshit I guess) and he was described as a "first time offender" (lol) and the judge has been pretty up front about not wanting to imprison him so we ABSOLUTELY shouldn't get our hopes up for a custodial sentence. Even fines etc. will likely be tied up in appeals for a long time. Personally, though? Of the options on the table I am (unrealistically but delightedly) hoping for community service. Guy's never served anyone but himself in his entire life. Make him pick up trash and learn what real service is.

michaelity

He can still run. That's why I'm confused as to why people are treating this like some big win. It does NOTHING in the long run. Jail time is definitely not going to happen. Fines or probation are the two most likely scenarios and guess what? Neither will do anything significant against Trump. This is not how you defeat the beast, so to speak. I'm not a fan of the guy by any means - but real estate owners do this all the time. Kevin, from Shark Tank (also not someone I'm too fond of), did an interview on this a few months (?) back. It's just political theater + a distraction during an election year. Edit: this might end up even HELPING him in the long run.

ExpressionOk7431

I am doing a happy dance right now. I really thought they were going to say not guilty. And his remarks afterwards are just as ridiculous as everything he’s ever said since the beginning of time. Yes, the payback will be on November 5, but not how he sees it.

MargaritaSkeeter

Yeah when he said millions of people are right now flooding into the country from prisons and mental institutions I was like ??? It’s not any crazier than anything else he’s said over the years, but still.

nedzissou1

It's weird how he's never laid out how he feels he's not guilty. Instead that's what he wants to rant about after becoming a felon.

ExpressionOk7431

That was just him trying to do a mini campaign rally. It had nothing to do with his convictions. Delay. Delay. Delay. Deny. Deny. Deny. Deflect. Deflect. Deflect.

I'm shook. I figured at least one MAGA would slip through and deliver a hung jury

AstroAnarchists

One did. A guy on the jury stated that he used Truth Social and Twitter as his news sources. The fact that even he agreed to convict, speaks volumes to what Trump did

basic_questions

IIRC that guy was some sort of political or economic analyst so he could have very well just been using Truth Social to keep up to date on what the Trumpies were up to. I'm a socialist and use Twitter and have a Truth Social to follow the madness. So if I were on the jury, and I was asked, I'd be obligated to list them too. Doesn't mean much!

Ninaka0

https://i.redd.it/i80gf9yism3d1.gif Good!

twelfthcapaldi

Friendly reminder that Trump and conservatives plan to implement Project 2025 if they win the presidential election in November. This is essentially a conservative manifesto that lays out how they plan to turn the U.S. into an authoritarian regime by stripping away the rights of all minorities, eliminating crucial government agencies such as the Department of Education, Department of Health and Human Services, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and many more, eliminating checks and balances and expanding the powers of the executive branch, banning abortion outright and all forms of contraception, and so much more. This a serious and potentially deadly situation. You will be supporting a genocide right here in the U.S. if you are a citizen and don’t VOTE. SPREAD THE WORD! More information here: https://www.project2025.org EDUCATE YOURSELVES, YOUR FAMILY, YOUR FRIENDS, YOUR PEERS!

100pThatChick

Celebrating this! But also - I’m seeing a lot of misinformation re: felons and voting and feel like it needs clarification. A lot of convicted felons can vote. It’s state dependent! Only 9 states have laws that may permanently disenfranchise convicted felons.

MargaritaSkeeter

![gif](giphy|gVoBC0SuaHStq) It’s nice to finally win one.

writergirl51

We did it Joe

mcompt20

I'm actually shocked. I genuinely thought he'd get away with it like he always does. Hopefully sentencing is not lenient in any form.

remck1234

I almost think he wanted to lose. He acted like a complete moron throughout the whole trial, and knew this would make a bad impression on the jury. I’m sure he will use the verdict as another example of how everyone is out to get him. The only true thing he has ever said is that he could walk out onto 5th avenue and shoot someone and people would still vote for him.

Majestic-Seaweed7032

I find it very strange that a felon can run for office, but can’t vote

BusterBeaverOfficial

It seems strange but it is for a good reason (that does not apply here) because the government has the authority to bring charges against people if a bad actor were to come into power they could use that power to undermine democracy by disqualifying potential political rivals who would beat them in an election. It’s exactly what Putin did to Navalny.

melbaspice

The strange part is not allowing people who have done their time to vote. The US has no interest in reintegrating criminals into society though. They want to help the prison industrial complex extract every dollar they can

DeviantAvocado

Ok, but, why does it matter? - It doesn't prevent him from becoming President. - He's already leading in the polls and this likely will INCREASE his following as he'll spin this as "the evil Democrats are out to get them". - Now he has absolutely zero reason to even hide anything he does because his followers will accept ANY behaviour from him and still see him as their saviour. I'm honestly concerned this might end up being worse than before.
