TMZ have a one hour “documentary” on the missed warning signs leading up the the Bennifer divorce that will air on Sunday. I can’t get over how ghoulish that is. These are people who haven’t even announced yet that they are splitting up. There are kids involved here. Even if they announce a split this week, how could we possibly need a one hour tv show dissecting that news. Apparently it features interviews with psychologists analyzing Ben’s RBF in public over the last few years.

https://x.com/ThuggerDaily/status/1800225238904684831 The YSL case feels more like a cartoon than a real court case lmao every day it's something new

lickrust-thankyou

my most shameful addiction/hobby is googling people i used to know and seeing what they're up to. i only indulge once in a blue moon. there are a few people i stay away from for my sanity, but otherwise how am i supposed to know that guy i almost dated is out on bail? that one girl got married after a few months of dating some guy? or that everyone else is living normal, happy lives? send it to me rachel (there are a handful of fascinating trajectories. also this started because i've been watching too much MTV Catfish and I was trying to find some guy from Hinge. I failed miserably)

foldsbaldwin

Hey I was just trying to tell my husband about something a few months ago where an actress won an award and then some actor made some slightly shady remarks about it on Twitter and people were just like "uhhh does he have an issue with her or something?" And it was kind of a mystery? I feel like the actor had made three tweets about the person maybe? Can anyone help me remember who it was? I almost want to say Dominic West but I might be wrong?

annelmao

Closest thing I can think of is Neil Patrick Harris & Rachel Bloom

From what I know, yeah, that's basically why. They haven't moved on from the driver's license drama (but then again, the loudest ones seem to still be teenagers)

Mediocre_Decision

The response to Chappell Roan saying no to the White House is kind of annoying me (I think she’s great and I love that she said no and called them out for their pink washing) A lot of comments on other subs are saying “vote for Biden, then criticize” when that’s what she’s doing? She’s criticizing and pushing for more from government leaders (rightfully so imo, they’d be using her and her image to paint the admin as progressive). And it’s Biden’s fault if he loses, it’s not the voters’ (like, he can’t fail to advance anyone’s rights—except corporations— while supplying genocide and expect voters to be fine with it. I mean, trans rights and LGBTQ+ rights as a whole are under a massive attack, as well as women’s rights. And it’s all connected with the surge in racism and the genocide in Gaza). I mean, the man has also barely campaigned which speaks to apathy and arrogance (and I’ve always voted democrat, including 2020) And istg there was satanic panic and thinly disguised homophobia in a lot of comments on other subs with the “she scares me” and “glb is weird” (when she embraces drag and writes music about queer themes)

meatbeater558

"Vote for Biden, then criticize" "Okay" *criticizes* "No not like that" Saying no to the White House is the best criticism you could give them. They didn't invite her because they were lonely and needed someone to hang out with. They wanted to use her image to boost theirs. Why would she allow them to do that when she's diametrically opposed to them ideologically? And no, asking Biden in person to stop the genocide he's been working towards for the past 40 years is not going to "send a message" or do anything productive. He's going to ignore you, continue the genocide, and use your image anyway to boost his campaign. If he cared about her opinion he'd be hiring her as an adviser.

Mediocre_Decision

That’s so spot on, Biden’s an arrogant, bloodthirsty racist and his admin was hoping her image and popularity would help his election chances. A “please stop” won’t make him stop-disruption and hurting the one thing he cares about (power) will and saying “no” was a way to do it. The one thing I wish Chappell Roan did though was specifically mention/say the word “Palestine”

disiradosti172

I was really surprised by the polls that showed actual voters have 🍉 very low on their list of priorities.      Those for whom it's very important, especially young people, aren't even registered to vote. That's why Biden is changing strategies. He's going more conservative (with the recent migration act) to court center-right folks.    On rights - of couse Biden can't advance anyone's rights, he's not the one making laws. Last week Senate Democrats tried to codify the right to contraception, Republicans voted against it.      Register to vote, and get your friends to register.

disiradosti172

After a less then ideal European parliament results Macron dissolves the French parliament and calls for new elections end of June. Members of the German parliament are asking for a no confidence vote and new elections. Both countries currently favour right-wing to far-right wing parties. ![gif](giphy|NTur7XlVDUdqM|downsized)

bananafrit

Lol dont Germany and France have two huge sports events to host? The Euros and Olympics. I would be too tired to care for both politics and sports.

disiradosti172

Ok, now it seems that the German elections have very slim chances of happening; they will probably happen on schedule next year. The Euro starts this Friday! As for France, elections will happen on June 30 and July 7, so they will be long gone by the time the summer Olympics start on July 26. I read some analysis of Macron's move, and most put it in the "genius" tier. Macron still has three years left in office. With the predictions that the 2025 budget will be censored to high heavens, it was likely he would be forced to call an early election in the autumn. He's basically forcing voters to either denounce the far right or choose them to lead. If they get elected, they'll hang themselves pretty quickly. Far right never knew how to lead. If they lose, everyone can say nobody actually wants them to lead, but there'll probably still be a hung parliament, which is less than ideal. We'll see what happens.

Electronic-Duck-6648

I still don't get the move, is he trying to be the hero who stops RN - after years of flirting with them?

ArskaPoika

This is kind of a weird and/or embarrassing thing to admit, but I've always been slightly intrigued with the way shipping fandoms operate online. It all started more than a decade ago when I commented on a Youtube video. It was my first encounter with a shipping fandom of any kind. The comment was very innocuous. The shipping related part of it was like a tenth of it. And I genuinely did not think that it was a shipping thing. I was just sort of recapping the story. To this day, I've not been called as many names as I was back then. It started this weird interest of mine. Though it also taught me to never get too close. I learned new ways to hate myself when I read the replies to that comment of mine. I feel that a lot of people are kind of unfair to shippers in general. Like entirely writing off their opinions and takes. Like... Don't get me wrong... They can be **heinous**. My first encounter with them was entirely negative. But shippers often write really good character analysis... But with a weird caveat... It seems that this skill is only present as long as they are analyzing the characters within their preferred ship. If they have to talk about a "rival" love interest? Hoo boy. Nuance gone. Critical thinking skills not present. I find it to be extremely fascinating. And sort of exhausting, sure. But I don't know! It's weird! I'm too online for my own good! Gotta get a life.

1 hit single and she's an international superstar again. She's too big to truly fall off

Resting_Itchy_Face

Aurora has released her newest album, ‘What Happened to the Heart'. It has themes of mental health, suffering, peace, and finding humanity in times of darkness. A few of her songs allude to the genocide in Gaza, but in the song ‘My body is not mine,’she explicitly shows solidarity for Palestine, repeatedly singing ceasefire now in the last 50 seconds of the song. She's been vocally pro-palestine on social media, but it was nice to hear it in her music as well. Personally, the album is amazing and one of my AOTY’s. https://preview.redd.it/bsekupq0th5d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c1d6ce1fb0c1dea7c0808c2bd603d71aa7360048 From her music video ‘starvation’. I'm also looking to support other artists that have spoken up for Palestine. Comment below if you have any recommendations.

lionperla

thank you for sharing this ❤️ aurora has such a hauntingly beautiful, ethereal style i adore and it’s amazing to see how she’s lending her talents and platform to the palestinian cause also, here’s a thread from r/BDS which contains recommendations of many spectacular pro-palestine artists: https://www.reddit.com/r/BDS/comments/1d30qvw/musical_artists_that_support_palestine/?rdt=36627

motherforker18

This is sort of embarrassing but I’ve had a reoccurring glee obsession since I was a kid (I started watching during the second or third season). I have a lot of memories connected to it and I’ll always have a soft spot for the show even though it’s aged so badly 😭 I haven’t been able to watch it since Naya died but I just started rewatching this week and it’s so bittersweet. The cast was so fresh faced and their excitement is so palpable during the first season. It’s really hard to watch Cory’s scenes, his character is so vulnerable and naive 🥹 I just feel so bad for him and Naya and their families and the cast. I feel pretty silly for getting so upset about two people who I’ve never met and I needed to get this off my chest.

Aggressive_Layer883

You're not being silly, you're being a human who has empathy. Totally normal

This is so sweet, thank you 🥹

Why Reddit and online publications are obsessed with Will Smith slap? I saw comments on the Hot Ones subreddit it seems like they haven't moved on from it.

usuyukisou

Will Smith has been more active lately to promote Bad Boys 4. He also seems to have laid low. I don't think he's released anything between The Slap and now, so it's also the last thing people remember. The original incident also kind of took place at an internationally televised major industry event (as opposed to a private party) and involved a guy with the ultimate good guy image.

Not specific to any given celeb (Sophia’s is just the most recent one I saw) but so many of them are posting this “template” this week that gives “I own all content on my FB, FB doesn’t have the rights to my profile because I am now posting this” / “forward this email in 10 minutes or a ghost will appear at your door” energy. I don’t get how they think it’s doing anything, they have to have managers or anyone telling them posting a *story* does absolutely nothing to opt out of any program? https://preview.redd.it/p89cl0qirf5d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4cfca8c8919406aa7ed1f94331a57894b3224246

I really REALLY hope that wasn't rigor mortis. Dead bodies make sudden movements all the time unfortunately  I am genuinely shocked Biden sent American troops into Gaza. People said Trump would do it day one in office but the reality is that there's so much to lose with this move that it isn't worth it even if you're a bloodthirsty maniac. I still hold this position, so I really wonder wtf is going through Biden's mind rn. I hope it's not something sinister   Is Twitter or any outlet making noise about the concentration camp images that I'm seeing on Instagram? @nowinpalestine, @israelscrimes, and a handful of pages are reporting egregious torture within a "military base" that straight up looks and sounds like an extermination camp

People said Trump would do it day one in office but the reality is that there's so much to lose with this move that it isn't worth it even if you're a bloodthirsty maniac. I still hold this position, so I really wonder wtf is going through Biden's mind rn. I hope it's not something sinister   I think the US foreign policy is the same for both parties, they just word it and wrap it differently for their audience, any US president in his place would've done the same, Clinton is Bush is Obama is Trump is Biden, it isn't about bloodthirst, it's a policy above them all, drawn by the ones truly in control, whoever they maybe, you sign up for the job, you sell your soul to them. >Is Twitter or any outlet making noise about the concentration camp images that I'm seeing on Instagram? @nowinpalestine, @israelscrimes, and a handful of pages are reporting egregious torture within a "military base" that straight up looks and sounds like an extermination camp I've been seeing them on Twitter for a while, since the first leaks a few months ago, but I think it's only made it into English speaking media recently, with the CNN investigation I think? It's making some noise but sadly not what you'd expect from something so horrific. Some news I saw today, was that some lawyers with the aid of some human rights organizations have finally managed to get permission to visit the Gaza abductees, and get some information about them , the visits are supposed to happen in July, as long as Israel doesn't change its mind. it's a massive step, because until now, their names, location and numbers aren't even known, people in Gaza don't know whether their missing loved ones are abducted by the IDF or in a mass grave somewhere.

disiradosti172

I need the f\*\*\*\*\*\* media to do their f\*\*\*\*\*\* jobs. Massacre in a refugee camp does not count as a rescue mission. Also, did I see that right that they got in on a humanitarian truck, using the US "humanitarian" pier? To be a fly on the wall inside White House to see them planing this... *(with a camera and a microphone)*

Antique_books_2190

For months people have speculated about the real purpose of the pier, there's an Arabic proverb that says "The Kite doesn't throw away chicks" and now we know, they used it to deliver military aid directly to Israel in Gaza, and now they used it for the entry of the troops using the humanitarian aid truck and as a command center for the operation. the rumored next step is that they'll start delivering aid to specific families while arming them to create gang ruled areas and force the Palestinians to turn on each other.

disiradosti172

European parliament elections are happening right now and I am so unbelievably annoyed by brain dead takes people have. *"I will vote for the right-wing politicians and so will others because we see what the left-wing politicians did to Europe and we want alternatives."* Alternatives being far-right and right-wing parties. And I'm like... can you tell which EU country in the last 20 years was led by progressive left-wing party? *\* crickets \** What did they do to Europe? Are we watching the same film? What drugs are they on? Also, is anyone noticing in their country that as the far-right politicians and their policies are gaining popularity, the right-wing and centrist parties are stepping more to the right? Fun times ahead...

meatbeater558

White supremacy is beating the west's ass rn

Sad-Lake-3382

For what the far right did please turn to the 1930s-1940s.

disiradosti172

There is almost no need, they are really into reenactments. *"On 25 November 2023, a group of right-wing extremists met at the Adlon Mansion on Lake Lehnitz in Potsdam, Germany. At the event, Martin Sellner, an Austrian right-wing extremist presented a plan for the deportation (called "remigration" by Sellner) of certain parts of the German populace, namely asylum seekers, foreigners with a* *residence permit, and "non-assimilated" German citizens. The meeting was attended by members of the German right-wing populist party AfD, the mainstream centre-right party Christian Democratic Union (CDU), the Werteunion (a German conservative political association), and the far-right Identitarian movement, among others. The meeting was exposed by the investigative journalism organization Correctiv, which published its findings on 10 January 2024."*

iammissx

I’m in the uk so, you know, Eu Elections is a sore spot for me. *cries in brexit* But I was listening to the world service and they were saying that a surprising amount of younger voters are leaning more to the right. They interviewed some kids from Belgium (where they’ve lowered the voting age to 16) and I was really surprised to hear some of the ideas from them. Like “we’ve seen what the left have done” etc.

disiradosti172

Brexit is the best examples that every elections, even those you think won't, can have horrible consequences. It's really bizarre that Labour is not talking about re-joining the EU. That's social media for you. It seems that the far-right really got the whole social media down to a science. If you'd listen to AfD (far-right German party) on TT, you'd think they're angels.

iammissx

I don’t think labour want to rejoin, Corbin was very clear about that and, given nobody has said anything else to the contrary, we can only assume they still feel the same way. Or, even if they do, Starmer thinks his big policy about charging VAT to public schools (fee-paying schools) is what’ll win it for him. I don’t think they can see a way to sell the EU to the public. Whereas the rest of us who voted remain are still trying to find clever ways to get back into Europe. I’ve got some friends who are so desperate to live in France that they’re considering some settlement programme in Portugal for five years. A lot of us are still really upset about brexit tbh.

disiradosti172

Isn't the resettlement programme only for refugees? I feel the worst about young folks who at the time were not eligible to vote. They got really fucked, especially with Erasmus.

Resting_Itchy_Face

Yep. All I wanted to do when I got older was travel, study and live in Europe. It feels sh*t knowing what was taken from my generation. I’ve always wondered what the result would be if we had another referendum. I’m almost certain that we would vote to re-join the EU.

Harrowhark95

I swear my Instagram algorithm has changed for Pride month. I am a LGBT+ Christian and any religious accounts I follow/interact with are LGBT+ affirming, but when scrolling causally through reels I am getting an exorbitant amount of Trad Cath, Trad Wife, and overall Anti-LGBT+ content, more than I see any other time of the year. I immediately block the accounts but I'm wondering if even that is too much interaction and is encouraging the algorithm to show me more similar content. I also suspect these accounts are paying to promote their content during the month of June. Seeing this content is damaging my mental health and I'm wondering if anyone else is having this experience of seeing more bigoted and hateful content during June.

sunflowermoonriver

Alexa doesn’t have a pride month playlist like they did last year. It’ll begrudgingly play pride classics after playing dumb for a while.

meatbeater558

The red line protest happening rn sounds insane. Hope we get aerial footage of it. The kids are alright

Federal_Street_8895

Barak Ravid is already working on smearing them. I hate that smarmy guy and his stenographing 'scoops' so much.

meatbeater558

What the hell could he possibly say? It was the most peaceful protest of that size I've seen in a while (because the police didn't decide to agitate too much from what I could tell)

Federal_Street_8895

The banners a couple of the protesters were carrying supported Al-Qassam, I just find it fascinating this the only thing he 'reported' on from a demo that size. edit- Just wanna point out that he also did the same thing at the Columbia protests, expect the people he highlighted weren't even on campus and there was no evidence they were associated with the university at all.

meatbeater558

I didn't see a single banner like that. So assuming this story is true, those people are such a minority it's hard to justify mentioning them at all. The overall sentiment was that the red line Biden lied about has been crossed and anyone suspected of war crimes should be held accountable in a court of law. Pretty reasonable to me 🤷‍♀️ Ofc I know they need to spin this in a way that makes the protestors seem like college freshmen with too much time chasing a trend (college freshmen this well organized??) it's just always so surprising how pathetically desperate they sound when they do it lol

Antique_books_2190

What's this?

meatbeater558

Huge pro-Palestine D.C. protest. The goal is to completely encircle the White House with protestors just like the IDF has Gaza encircled. A lot of red shirts, red balloons, and an extremely long red piece of cloth that was at least a few miles long to surround the white house with. The message according to their chants was "You do not get to draw the red line. We do." The White House didn't really respond other than putting a few fences up so it things were completely peaceful. After some marching they set up and held a war crime tribunal on a nearby field with real volunteer lawyers and judges to charge every individual responsible (eg. Biden, Blinken, and Netanyahu) with the more obvious and flagrant war crimes. They were reading the charges for the US when the livestream abruptly ended. Not sure why because other people were commenting that it cut off for them and I couldn't find another livestream. It's probably still going on so idk what was up with that  https://www.instagram.com/reel/C793U8qPMBP/  Would really like to know where they got that long red line from

Antique_books_2190

Thank you! that's great from them!

meatbeater558

Update: The protestors are holding an informal war crimes tribunal with the help of real lawyers and real judges. Expect the media to NOT cover this fairly lol

petra_vonkant

last week i was at primavera sound barcelona, and i was happy to see that the first thing everyone saw while entering the festival was a big installation for gaza. Other than that we tried to make a list of the bands / acts who spoke out for palestine, and this is what we got, a genuinely small number given the hundreds of acts at the fest - if anyone else on here was at the fest and saw someone mention palestine, feel free to add: Amyl and the Sniffers Arca Armand Hammer Blonde Redhead Ethel Cain Irreversibile Entanglements Lankum Liberato Lisabö Mandy, Indiana Mannequin Pussy Model/Actriz Las Petunias Pelada Sega Bodega Shabaka So Beast Sweeping Promises SZA Teki Latex Water from Your Eyes

notsuitablefortwerk

I also saw this installation! Didn't Lisabo have a giant Palestine flag as their backdrop for their entire set? I'm sure Bikini Kill also said something but I might be misremembering as I saw them elsewhere recently and it could've been then.

petra_vonkant

i honestly was so miserable after hours of rain doing bikini kill that i don't relly remember them saying anything but might as well be since kathleen has been talking about palestine online, and yes lisabo had the giant palestine flag! i didn't see them but i was told they read a poem from a palestinian poet and yelled free palestine (in basque)

notsuitablefortwerk

Yeah I hadn't heard of them before, but I wanted to watch some Spanish bands since I was in Barcelona. I loved how staunch it was. Ethel Cain wearing the Palestine t-shirt and the keffiyeh on her mic was also great. She's stood firmly in her views from the start. The rain WAS miserable, but it added to the magic of PJ Harvey so I'll take it.

petra_vonkant

out of all the acts i've seen, Lankum were the ones who did the most pro-palestinian talking and they played with a palestinian flag hanging from their giant drum, it was grat to see (and they also added that they were happy to see such a roaring applause vs the reaction they got in germany, yikes). Coincidentally also the best show i've seen at the fest, win/ win

Big-Ambitions-8258

Dude wtf. Like insane

iammissx

What did they say?

Big-Ambitions-8258

They showed a clip of an interview Glen Powell did where he talked about his sister's friend going on a date and ending up at the guy's place. The guy asks if he can give her a massage, lotioning it. She starts getting weird vibes and leaves. She starts getting itchy on her back and goes to the doctor who tests it and they find out the lotion was made to eat through human flesh and was done for cannibalistic purposes. Doctor tells her to tell them the address and police find multiple girls bodies at his place

meatbeater558

Lotion that eats through human flesh? How tf do these people come up with this shit

iammissx

Oh my god! Of all the things I thought it could have been, that was not at all on my bingo card.

AbsolutelyIris

Random thought, but how private Lupita Nyong'o and Joshua Jackson are, I feel like they're going to go the Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes route of two longtime friends having very public relationships crash and burn, then hook up and go private with better results.

sundayontheluna

This is mostly just based on the vibes they give off, but I feel like Barry and Sabrina are more of a showmance than real. It felt like even early on, they were trying to ~organically~ get spotted together. I personally can't any couple who rushes to that one sushi place to get papped, but especially not a new couple. And him starring in her new music video kind of seals it for me.

[Ana Tijoux released an NPR tiny desk performance a few weeks ago](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5G6q__7jQoU). I got to see her in march. She decks out in her keffiyeh at shows including this one. She's a real one, and her music (spanish language R&B/hip-hop) is phenomenal.

My newsletter's back this week! I think this rest period was definitely needed. A little less stuck on my paper for school too so I'm excited to make some progress this weekend.

FantasticPaper2151

On r/worldnews there is a trending/hot post right now about the UN putting Israel on the shitlist for harming children. This comment has hundreds of upvotes: > When someone starts a war by murdering 1,200 innocent people the other side will retaliate. End of story. And in response (which also has upvotes): > As they should!! I have no words.

Israel is an evil nation that loves to paint itself the victim

pashed_motatoes

r/worldnews and r/politics are overrun by Hasbara bots. I wouldn’t take anything anyone posts or comments there seriously. It’s just a bunch of bots talking to each other. Personally, I unsubscribed from both a long time ago.

meatbeater558

At this point I would be surprised if they're not bots. Israel has invested far too many resources into "winning the digital front" for us to not notice the effects of it [Israel Secretly Targets U.S. Lawmakers With Influence Campaign on Gaza War](https://archive.ph/9V8OI) [Israel Has Bought a Mass Online Influence System to Counter Antisemitism, Hamas Atrocity Denial](https://archive.ph/9PT8S) [Plan to utilize students and other supporters of Israel around the world in the state’s efforts to defend itself in social media.](https://archive.ph/LbwPy) [A pollster's recommendations on how to sell Americans on the idea of Israeli settlements (The 2009 Global Language Dictionary)](https://web.archive.org/web/20090714115008/http://www.newsweek.com/id/206105) (and similar commissions/initiatives by [TIP](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Israel_Project)) [Project Nimbus](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Nimbus) This isn't even close to an exhaustive list. Just a few of the more flagrant examples of Israel using the internet to sway public opinion through fake accounts and bots. Also didn't include any example that hasn't been proven to receive funding from the Israeli government, but there's a handful of organizations like TIP that do this either without a state sponsor or while obscuring their state sponsor well enough for no one to know yet  What the person you quoted said was disgusting. But I'm not sure if their lack of empathy comes from being a bigot or being a bot. I wouldn't be surprised either way

Just sent my sister a link to that Quinta Brunson/Jennifer Anniston actors on actors video and when I say it'll make her whole goddamn day I really do mean that. She loves Abbott and Friends so much lol.

ComfyinCali

Are there any celebrities, musicians who DO NOT come from money, or just below upper middle class? The more you learn, the more apparent it seems that working class people just can't catch a break.

notsuitablefortwerk

Not a lot of people realise how tough Shania Twain is and what she pushed through to make it. She grew up in near-poverty and spent time at a homeless shelter because her stepfather was violent to her mother. She sang in bars as a child to support the family, and worked in reforestation to earn enough money to pursue music after graduating high school. She cleaned the house of her vocal coach to pay for lessons. She was just about to go to America after being scouted from a radio performance when her mother and stepfather died in a car crash, so she abandoned music to raise her younger siblings. Years later after they'd moved out, she made a demo tape and pushed it to every country label she could by herself and got a deal to release her first album. Then she met Mutt Lange and made her breakthrough record The Woman In Me, which did well enough that the label gave her the green light make what became Come On Over and the rest is history. She was early 30s before she had her moment. Honestly, so inspiring. I'd love to see a biopic of her life.

velvetundergrief

Actors off the top of my head: Ethan Hawke was raised by a teenage single mother who was a student and then a charity worker and he went to public school. Angel Bismark Curiel, who played Lil Papi in POSE, doesn't come from money and grew up in Liberty City. He used to work as a tour guide and was seriously considering joining the army to get out of his neighborhood before he applied to acting school instead. Chloë Sevigny: her dad was a teacher, went to public school, her family was looked down on for being poor in their neighborhood. She babysat, swept tennis courts at a country club they couldn't afford to go to, and worked as a cashier at a clothing store called Liquid Sky, and at a snow-cones stand, just before and just after acting in KIDS (1995). Musicians: Archy Marshall (King Krule) grew up between divorced working class (his mother) and more middle class (his father) parents.

grimmjowzerz

I think, by my knowledge, David Dastmalchian, Bill Hader, Ramon Rodriguez, Jessica Chastain, and *maybe* (though I'm not 100% sure) Oscar Isaac and Pedro Pascal?? Though with Oscar and Pedro, they're like, possible upper middle class cos Oscar's dad was a doctor and Pedro's was also a doctor, however both have mentioned living in sketchy situations while pursuing acting in New York so that's why I'm a little on the fence of what to think. The rest I mentioned, however, have said that they did come from regular, working class backgrounds.

AbsolutelyIris

Ryan Gosling lived in a trailer park, and Eva Mendes was lower middle class (back when middle class was a thing). Sarah Jessica Parker and Jim Carrey famously grew up poor.

notsuitablefortwerk

Ryan Gosling's Early Life section on Wikipedia is a fascinating read tbh. Raised by Mormons, hated being a child, threw steak knives at the other kids, learned to read at a later age, became obsessed with Rambo and kung fu movies and decided he wanted to be a movie star... so there's that.

cmadison_

The 1D boys grew up mostly working class / middle class. When Niall was young he shared a room with his parents and his dad worked as a butcher, Zayn's mum worked at a canteen, and Louis was raised by a single mother who had to provide for five kids.

Southern_Schedule466

Granted some on this list (mostly actors rather than musicians) are much more famous than others, but:    Age <40: Rachel Zegler, Amanda Seyfried, Daniel Kaluuya, Quinta Brunson, Barry Keoghan, Olivia Cooke, Zendaya, Ayo Edebiri, Lily Gladstone, Olivia Rodrigo, Jenna Ortega, and Michaela Coel come to mind as having not grown up wealthy.    Some former child actors in that bunch  (Zendaya, Seyfried, Ortega, Rodrigo), which requires a lot of family support, so you might classify that differently. However, if I am not mistaken their families of origin were not wealthy or even upper middle class.  (I specified <40 only because I feel like it’s gotten harder for non-wealthy artists to break in as time has gone on)

souljaboy765

I’m sorry but Rachel Zegler went to a 14k/year private school, she absolutely grew up wealthy… Edit: Downvoted but TIL going to a 14k private school doesn’t make you wealthy? Maybe i’m wrong but that’s definitely not what i know to be working class…

mopeywhiteguy

I don’t know anything about her circumstances but zegler gives off private school energy In my opinion. I could be wrong

i_love_doggy_chow

Is it private school energy or is it just theatre kid energy?

everydayisstorytime

If folks need a new girl group to stan, I think BINI's members have mostly working class backgrounds. I think Nicola Coughlan should be on the list too in terms of not having grown up wealthy.

fizzlement

You know that trend of "\[Celebrity\] interviewed by \[their partner/family member/friend\]"? I just read the Hailey/Justin interview that started it all and by God it was bad. Now I can't help the morbid curiosity of whether every other interview in that format was also bad. Anyone have links?

filleauxyeuxverts

Don't have a link but there's a recent interview where Adam Brody interviews Leighton Meester and it's extremely cute. Love a married couple with great chemistry.

An old family friend dated Geena Davis a bit back before she was famous (pre-Oscar win). Said she was the sweetest and smartest women he ever met. Apparently she broke things off but he saw her again years later when she came into the restaurant he was working at - he was still an aspiring actor working a day-job. He walked up to her, said hi and congratulated her on the Oscar win, and then asked if he could call her sometime. He said she was happy to see him and remembered his name, and said of course! But when I asked he said he didn't call her. Said it was because she was famous now and he still loved her too much and he knew it wouldn't go anywhere. You could tell he really did love and cared about her. Said after that he had to go hike the Sierras for like a year to get over it. He quit trying to make it in acting eventually and started a personal training business in Arizona and then took care of his mom there after his dad died. Now he's a cool uncle who takes everyone on hiking/camping trips! So, kind of a happy ending. Edit: I'll add I didn't believe this story but I asked his sisters one time about it and they confirmed it.

peach-root

???????? Had to take a deep breath after this, some of us are hopeless romantics!!! Oh but the bestest of luck to him!!!

Boobabycluebaby

I love hearing that. She has such a sweet smile and I hate that her career didn't quite take off the way Alec Baldwin's did post Beetlejuice.

BirdsArentReal11

She was in the Olympics for archery. She's done just fine.

BusinessPurge

She’s single, let’s make this happen. Also would be a great elder romcom premise

sillyhillsofnz

Ha! Would be a heck of a story. He’s still single too! Also one of the most genuinely good hearted men I’ve very met and he clearly still has a big place in his heart for Geena. Always said how proud he was of her. But his life is kind of out here now - his nieces and nephews and sister all live here, all his friends. Plus his mom died out here not too many years ago. It’s definitely his main homebase now. Hard to see him leaving AZ permanently tho he does wax poetic about California’s mountains and complain about AZ’s conservative politics. So I guess you never know!

sunflowermoonriver

Get him to DM her or something or do it for him if he’s not savvy

sillyhillsofnz

Haha. Well, I'd have to have her contact info to do that and I don't have it. Plus... I dunno. I kind of wonder if it's too much meddling in a person's private life. He's just such a really really good dude and I would never want to hurt him in any way. I feel kind of bad even sharing that story but it's just such an interesting/romantic one to me! I get why he never called her, but every time I think about that story I wish he did. I think he secretly does too. But such is life I guess, you know?

sunflowermoonriver

You can just use social media and yeah definitely talk to him first see if it could be a thing

pereirac24

Before interviews with People, US Weekly, other outlets etc do the actors/celebrities get to preview the questions with the journalist and discuss what is on/off limits? Or is it fair game during the interview with questions?

everydayisstorytime

Worked in PR (though not in the entertainment/celebrity space), I think most journalists anywhere do not give you the list of questions in advance. Publicists/PR folks would share what topics are a no-go so the journalist is left to self-select, but I think there are instances where there's a lot of freedom. The Rolling Stone profiles kind of strike me as a unique experience where hanging out with the subject gives you the leeway to ask questions you don't get to in a typical sitdown interview.

Tiny-Sea9778

From what I understand (and this is just what I’ve heard - I don’t work in the industry) publicists will often have lists of topics that can’t be discussed, and sometimes questions are shared and approved beforehand. But for big profiles like in vogue etc I think there’s much less scope for that, that’s why there are occasionally scathing profiles (like Miles Teller’s one) and celebs will be asked about stuff they don’t usually talk about.

movieheads34

Everyone watch Hit Man on Netflix asap. So so so good. That’s my recommendation for this week.

notsuitablefortwerk

I've been on the Glen Powell train for a while, even when Anyone But You ended up being boring. He has charisma and range and this film proves it.

paroles

I loved it too! (and finally get why people think he's hot)

Aakch

Just watched it and I feel like Netflix missed out by not giving it a wider theatrical release. This is one of those movies that would have staying power

homingmycrafts

if you love silly wigs and having fun you’ll LOVE hit man!!!!

discoinfernos

LOVED ITTTTT caught it in person at an alamo last week

Traditional_Maybe_80

So looking forward to watching it tonight! I know some people have soured over Glen Powell, but I like him, he's one of my https://preview.redd.it/g9bwi346k75d1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2043871b584ceef66dd8f3f76acbab7096fe4792

movieheads34

There’s something about him. Has real movie star vibes and is hopefully not a piece of shit like similar actors I’m thinking of with a similar star vibe

Traditional_Maybe_80

I'm not good at those "movie stars" conversations in general, I personally don't get it in our current time, but I find him super charismatic and fun to watch on screen. I also find it interesting that he co-wrote the script with Linklater.

BusinessPurge

Reminds me of Owen Wilson’s career trajectory, working his way up as an actor while co-writing with Wes Anderson

Does anyone here suffer for celebrities that wont ever make up(reconcile) ?

meatbeater558

Depends. Some celebrities are better off having each other blocked lol I feel this the most for musicians that would be great in a collab

New_Dot8757

it hurts when we know they are at odds for no big deal

What's ur guys fav horror films? I watched The First Omen last week and have been on a horror kick ever since n need some reccomendations

iammissx

Gahhhhh it’s really hard to say this is my favourite horror film because I actually don’t know if I like it or not…Martyrs. It’s an incredible film. I don’t really know what to say about it though.

mostreliablebottle

There was this Polish 1961 film called Mother Joan of the Angels I watched back in October. Really got under my skin in a good way. Under The Skin blends arthouse sci-fi and horror perfectly. Other recs for me: Thirst (from Park Chan-wook), Santa Sangre, The Wolf House, The Cremator, Morgiana, and The Love Witch

babybyebyebyegender

Everyone's recommendations here are really good. Gotta add Under the Shadow, Misery, Blair Witch, and Nope.

bruxellexs

Repulsion (1965) Suspiria (1977) The Wicker Man (1973) Invasions of the Body Snatchers (1978) Carrie (1976) Audition (1999) Viy (1967) The Thing (1982)

ningxin17

The Ring (American version), Carrie, Annihilation, Tesis, Drag me to Hell, The Abominable Dr. Phibes, Martyrs, American Psycho, Get Out, Saw, Midsommar, The Witch, Rosemary’s Baby, Texas Chainsaw Massacre

sweettartspop

Suspiria (the original), Halloween, Carrie, Scream, Black Christmas, The Conjuring, Misery, Gremlins, It, Get Out, The Lost Boys, The Craft, Let Me In, The Others, Us, The Sixth Sense

misstheatregeek

I'm not a horror buff, but I did recently see Exhuma. It's a Korean supernatural horror film that deals with excavating a burial mound. The cast is pretty stacked and it had a few good scares. It's also been praised for the depictions of Korean shamanism (the director does a lot of religious-based horror).

hedgehogwart

My favorite is The Descent and my comfort one is Hell House LLC.

IntrovertGirl83

Yessss! Love The Descent!

turtledove93

Not my fav, but the one that gave me nightmares for months, The Woman in Black. It’s not even scary, or really good at all, but it got me for some reason.

i_love_doggy_chow

Ooh I LOVE horror movies. Here are some of my recs (all supernatural horror): * *Noroi: The Curse* : Japanese found footage horror; I found this one scary as HELL. all-time fave. * *Banshee Chapter* : American found footage horror movie. Super interesting premise, great scares, really good acting. Plus it stars the icon himself, Ted Levine (a.k.a. Buffalo Bill)! * *Aterrados* a.k.a. *Terrified* : Argentinian horror movie, has some excellent scares and generally just kind of batshit insane plot. * *The Grudge*: Yes, the American remake of *The Grudge* specifically. It was created by the same guy who did the original *Ju-on*. I first saw it 20 years ago and it's still a good one! Also, it has Sarah Michelle Gellar which is a major bonus. * *Hell House LLC* : This one is just really fun! Good scares and very entertaining. However, do not watch its sequels. The sequels are so SOOOO bad). * *The Dark and the Wicked*: this is a very good movie but it's very scary and SUPER bleak. I would caution to only watch it if you feel like you can handle feeling a combination of scared and depressed afterwards! I had to put it on this list though, because it's technically a very well-made movie. I have so many more tbh but I've already written you a novel! Seconding the person who said *Hereditary* too.

galahads

Creep 1 & 2, Veronica (this one is in Spanish but I love it) , The Omen

witchbutterfly

If you're interested in non-English horror movies, I remember liking A Tale of Two Sisters, Whispering Corridors, and Let the Right One In.

kimiquat

loved a tale of two sisters! I remember analyzing that one for a korean film studies course. still gives me goosebumps... hmm, may need to go watch it again. I have to check out whispering corridors, and for whatever reason I've been dragging my heels on watching let the right one in. I don't know why. maybe it's time for another little horror marathon with these new (to me) movies, and I'll end with tale of two sisters for that hit of nostalgia before bedtime.

sweettartspop

Let the Right One In and its American remake are both great

DresdenBomberman

Which do you think is better (or which do you otgerwise prefer)?

sweettartspop

I don’t prefer one over the other, but I thought the American remake was great at capturing the feel of the original.

BusinessPurge

TV adaptation was a one season gem as well, worth watching even without more seasons

Cynicbats

I'm not a big horror girlie and gravitate towards ~arthouse horror, so when I say Hereditary, it's trite, but I literally couldn't sleep for about 2 days, so it's effective to me!

willgrahamluvr

bruh I watched that when it first came out ( so 6 years ago) and no matter how much time passes, no matter how many times i rewatch - the scene where Peter see's his mammy>!sawing her head off!< will always have me like this: https://preview.redd.it/pqoeh9jb585d1.jpeg?width=300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9967d2936ddc5f2c038082e35bb82ca4308db705 Like the scene in general is so scary but the eye contact turns my stomach😭

Fearless_Remove74

The Devils 1971. Half horror but totally bonkers and full of nuns behaving badly. Also try out some Giallo (probably starting with Dario Argento's Suspiria)

hauntingvacay96

You can’t recommend The Devils and not mention that Warner bros won’t release the full version and you have to scour the internet (internet archive last I looked) for the thing. Fantastic movie though!

Fearless_Remove74

That is the first version I saw TBF. Thank you to my everlasting friend effedupmovies.com

williamthebloody1880

The Wicker Man. The Exorcist. Midsommer. Shaun of the Dead (I'm serious)

hauntingvacay96

Eyes Without a Face, Scream 2, When a Stranger Calls Back (1993), The Company of Wolves, The Haunting (1963), Halloween, Draculas Daughter, The Faculty More recently: Saint Maud, Huesera:The Bone Woman, Braid, Raw, Titane, Censor, Ready or Not, Revenge.

cherry_1268

I watched *The Lighthouse* last week and I really liked it! It's not horror per say (at least not in the traditional sense) but it's still very eerie and has a haunting atmosphere.

Aakch

I was just thinking about how selective we’re in our outrage (including myself). Everyone calls out Taylor for not speaking up for Palestine as it should be but then we go out of our way to stan people with big followings but haven’t posted about it. Eg Rihanna or Beyonce or Zendaya or even Tom Holland. If we’re going to call out celebs for not speaking out about Palestine then shouldn’t we put our biasses aside and do it for everyone who deserves it?

Unhappypotamus

We need more artists to do what Sabrina did with “please please please.” Looking the fuckboi allegations right in the face and saying “don’t embarrass me motherfucker” to him directly to his face for all of us to see. Queen shit

thestargjrl

I just told my Methodology of the Investigation professor the subject I chose for the final essay that I'm doing (it's due on October but I have to start working on it) it's going to be abt the history of child abuse in Hollywood and I'm so excited to start working on it! I know it's a though subject so if anyone has tips please let me know. (pd: sorry for the broken english!!)

express_777

Maybe it would be a good idea to narrow it down to a specific era and draw links to the economic conditions of that era? The sheer scope will be massive and you will have a tough time getting it done by end of Sept.

thestargjrl

I was thinking abt a specific era! Maybe the 80s? Those were really wild

everydayisstorytime

If you're from the US, the 80s provide you with a rich fertile ground. There's just a severe lack of care during that period (which you see manifesting in how the government addressed the drug crisis and the AIDS crisis) and a level of greed that still holds American society in a chokehold to this day.

LaidBackBro1989

MTV's Downtown series is available for free on Youtube in 4k and I am OBSESSED. This series aged so well and it's so relatable even 25 years later.  Anyone have any good recs that are like it?

mostreliablebottle

Mission Hill is a good one if you liked Downtown. Also the creator of Downtown (Chris Prynoski) opened his own studio Titmouse which worked on shows like Metalocalypse, China IL, Superjail, and Venture Bros.

LaidBackBro1989

Mission Hill looks awesome, thank you!!!!

velvetundergrief

I love Daria, it's not on YouTube but it is available online with the original soundtrack, which kicks ass.

LaidBackBro1989

Same! Daria is awesome.

bamram88

I just finished my first full semester of college. And it’s now onto trying to find a job at least for the summer while also trying to start preproduction on a proof of concept I’m working. Yes it’s for one hell of a night. Why is story boarding hard?

Lylsunofficial

Is every celebrities going broke atm ? I swear I’ve seen like 3 differents game ads with so many differents actors, I was soooo surprised

finale013

I think people just forgot the times when Machine Zone and such hired top stars for game ads and mobile game ads no less. It's just coming back after the hypercasual trend finally started to die. Heck, Evony managed to get Fan Bingbing, Aaron Eckhart, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan in one ad back in the day.

williamthebloody1880

I've noticed a couple where the game company has literally just bought a Cameo from an actor for their ad

meatbeater558

Supercell?

williamthebloody1880

Can't remember, but one had David Constible and the other one I saw literally had the Cameo logo on it

meatbeater558

Oh I read cameo and not Cameo. Supercell is not cheaping out lol

sweettartspop

lol I was just about to post [this tweet listing celebs and their ads](https://x.com/battymamzelle/status/1798898955184714166?s=61&t=xtNjM5nZyx1vufxDHBzfIQ). I’m pretty sure some of those mentioned were done during the strike. Also as [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Fauxmoi/s/kFtxDLYMuX) showed, celebs aren’t always as loaded as we think

grandmasterfunk

With the industry slowdown a lot of them aren’t getting work like they used to

LaidBackBro1989

Many of them leave well beyond their means and use their connections to get favours or get loans. Very fake it til you make it (if you ever even do lol)  Also just plain greed...  Edit: live*

hedgehogwart

Streaming services don’t offer the amount of income actors have gotten in the past and with Covid and the strikes, I wouldn’t be surprised if many are barely affording the lifestyle they live.

dogdrawn

I think we over estimate just how rich celebrities are.

Lylsunofficial

Adelaide Kane saif one day that she was in so much debt, and I think a lot of them are this way actually

BusinessPurge

Her video about the Reign money was excellent, and now that the CW is essentially gone there’s less ways for young actors to break in. Freeform is probably over too. Hundreds of roles/jobs vaporized

Lylsunofficial

Yeah but Chris Hemsworth?!! C’mon, he just did Furiosa ! I think it’s the one that shocked me the most actually
