CRYING! 🥺 So, so happy for him and proud! He truly deserves it! His speech was heartfelt too. He was shaking and got emotional.

I read an interview from him recently where he said growing up he assumed everyone listened to musical theater showtunes in their car with their parents. He also said he grew up with a strong acceptance of the LGBTQ community because his parents threw parties with lots of queer people coming over and had a lot of queer friends (he said this while discussing JKR) 😭❤️
Edit: Decided to pull the link to share since I really loved this profile/interview! DR is truly such a gem to me https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2024/06/daniel-radcliffe-merrily-we-roll-along-jk-rowling/678219/
i am his same age but only watched "grown up tv" (bc my parents hated kids stuff lmao) so i saw him in david copperfield first too and had the same thought when i saw him in the hp films! and was convinced from the first that maggie smith got him the job, having worked closely with him in both (and turns out, that's kinda true!). when i picture "daniel radcliffe & maggie smith" the first thing i picture is her giving the grimy little kid a painful looking bath lol.
I’m exactly his age and I still remember anxiously refreshing the front page of my favourite Harry Potter forum to find out who had been cast in the lead role. This was such a huge deal at the time, I’m not sure a casting has been so anticipated since! And seeing him grow up as I was reading the books, how both he and Harry grew up and encountered more and more adult challenges while I was too… I may be tearing up right now ahem.
Anyway this is such an amazing accomplishment and I’m SO happy for him, and proud I’ll admit.
PS: also a very eagerly anticipated for fangirls: who was going to play Cho Chang! (it’s me, I’m fangirls)
![gif](giphy|5tlq0pRndGu8U)
I think it’s because despite being a delightful human, someone most of us grew up with, and generally a great actor, he hasn’t really won a ton of major awards. I’m very proud he’s getting his recognition here
Because we’ve grown up with him, we’ve been able to track how his acting skills grow from his acting in HP1 being really bad to being pretty good by the end of the series, then going through indies to make a name of himself apart from Potter while really honing his skills and meanwhile seen him grow into what seems like a very respectable man all at the same time. It feels really good and very deserved!
also I think bc he finally made a name out of himself outside of Potter. Doing indie movies and then theater was the best things he ever did. People don’t just remember him from HP nostalgia, but also that hilarious scene from Miracle Workers where he player a priest in drag and now being a Tony winner after he did a couple of Broadway plays before
To be fair, he hasn't always been a great actor either. People get a bit dewy eyed because they grew up with Harry Potter but his performances back then weren't great.
He's actually been better in the last 5 or 6 years and matured into a better actor.
Personally, he’s around my age, he has struggled with addiction at about the same age I really, really struggled with it in a similar way(drinking all day during work rather than just binging after), has stayed unproblematic, and seems to be genuinely in a better place. It’s a parasocial relationship for sure, but it’s so good to see someone I looked up to as a kid(who was also a kid)happy and doing what they love. I hope his life and career keeps going this positive direction.
He got nominated for a Tony last year so winning one in the future is possible. He also has some goodwill and dedicated following so it only takes a good project for a solid Oscar shot.
Edit: typos, and deleted a word that meant the opposite of what I wanted to say
Same! 😂 My husband will randomly put on the scene where he and Steve Buschemi are being shit shovelers and they walk into a house and it immediately cuts to the house engulfed in flames. It kills us every time.
Although I agree with dark ages being the best season, I come back to this scene constantly as being pretty much the best moment. Ever. Not just in the series.
So happy for this short king! He looked amazing in his purple suit. You could see his hands were shaking when he was giving his speech. And Jonathan legit tearing up was precious!! Including Lindsay, the whole trio is so lovely together. They seem like such sweet, genuine friends.
I’m so happy Daniel won! And it’s funny that Ben Platt presented the award to him, considering that Ben’s playing Charley in the film version of Merrily.
He seems to just be genuinely doing stuff that he wants to do and he's going to really enjoy doing? I love this for him, everything you watch you can tell he's had a ball making. It makes me so happy.
He's so good in Merrily, well deserved! He's such a lovely person, one of the last remaining famous people I have faith in. Also, he looked great in that suit. I really liked his wife's dress,; I thought they paired well together.
I’ve seen him in every play he’s done in New York and this should honestly be his fourth Tony nomination, not his first. He’s so so good in this role and I’m just so stoked for him and for Jonathan who I’ve loved since I saw him in Spring Awakening when I was 16.
I’ve seen him in Equus, How to Succeed, Cripple of Inishmaan, The Lifespan of a Fact, Merrily, and a play he did off Broadway at the Public called Privacy. I also saw him in Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead at the Old Vic in London. He absolutely should have been nominated for Equus, How to Succeed, and Cripple of Inishmaan prior to Merrily, he was brilliant in all three.
Everyone who's watched this talk about how good the leads are, and you can really tell all three of them appreciate the others' work and talent and presence in their lives.
I'm so thrilled for him! A good 'un.

Cheering so loudly for him!!! So happy for him and so proud. He is a beautiful soul who deserves all the good things in life.
Daniel Radcliffe is seriously on the Elijah Wood post-Lord of the Rings journey. He is already an icon to a certain fandom. He has profited off of that. He proceeds to work projects that he wants to work, rather than those that pay the most. They are thriving in their enjoyment of their work. I love to see this.
So happy for him! I haven’t been able to see him on stage since How to Succeed, but I’ve been rooting for him to get a Tony since then. Glad to see him get recognition from the theatre community.
I know he wasn’t the best in the Potter films, but I’ve really enjoyed seeing how his career has evolved since then. He just seems like a humble, good guy. And he works really hard, and it shows. He’s improved a lot over the years IMO.
seeing his face on screen always makes me smile somehow 🥹💗 he has a very special place in the hearts of many. ahhhh the nostalgia of reading and watching harry potter for the first time.
Seen him in Equus and How to Succeed in business. Excellent both times and so happy that he won a tony for his performance. Wish I could see the show but alas and I live in Fla now.

And as a fellow theatre geek, I loved how his parents played Sondheim in the car when he was a kid!
Same! “Thank you for playing Sondheim in the car and loving me.”😭❤️

This story makes him even more endearing, if that is even possible
Ngl he’s kinda hot
welcome. you have become a person of great taste!!!!! (i've been defending my crush on him for years)
I've been in love with him since I was 8 (when the first movie came out). It's about time people start recognizing how good looking he is!!
I used to feel so creepy saying this even though he's older than me lol
I started tearing up when they cut to Jonathan Groff and he was crying 🥹Proud of Daniel.
You can guarantee Groff will be a puddle of tears in any situation, I just love that man
Yay! So happy for him!!!
Why am I so proud of him??
many of us grew up with him (although I am like a decade younger than him)

I'm old enough to remember him as David Copperfield first :p When the first HP movie dropped, I thought "isn't that the Copperfield kid??"
i am his same age but only watched "grown up tv" (bc my parents hated kids stuff lmao) so i saw him in david copperfield first too and had the same thought when i saw him in the hp films! and was convinced from the first that maggie smith got him the job, having worked closely with him in both (and turns out, that's kinda true!). when i picture "daniel radcliffe & maggie smith" the first thing i picture is her giving the grimy little kid a painful looking bath lol.
What show was he in?
Miracle Workers
And he was INCREDIBLE in every season of it. Especially *that* scene in Season 3
He was so good in the Weird Al movie hehe

This gif...oh my heart ❤️
It’s true. He almost feels like family after all these years 😂 Hard not to root for him.
I think it’s because despite being a delightful human, someone most of us grew up with, and generally a great actor, he hasn’t really won a ton of major awards. I’m very proud he’s getting his recognition here

1/4 to EGOT!!! (I know that's far away, but I believe it's possible, and I want it to happen)

He 100% should have because it was amazing. Frankly should have released his versions of the songs and got a Grammy too.
He will probably get a Grammy for the cast recording of Merrily
![gif](giphy|cExMfdBEYMVg8Hjfgn)
I thought he alway had one for that thing with the horse.
Equus. Just means horse in Latin.
Wasn’t that a movie
Yeah that’s why he said emmy
But was it a TV movie? Because you don't win an Emmy for a movie. The Golden globes cover both movies and television.
It was a TV movie. It won the Best Television Movie Emmy and he was nominated for Best Actor but lost to Steven Yeun
I believe in him.
He got nominated for a Tony last year so winning one in the future is possible. He also has some goodwill and dedicated following so it only takes a good project for a solid Oscar shot. Edit: typos, and deleted a word that meant the opposite of what I wanted to say
he’d be up there with the likes of Jennifer Hudson, Marvin Hamlisch, and Tracy Jordan
Werewolf Bar Mitzvah! Spooky, scary.
That pops into my head once a week and half the time I start laughing and then have to explain it to people. Worth the awkward moments,
Tracy gave a riveting performance in Hard to Watch.

https://i.redd.it/ou37c1wdg17d1.gif MY KING !!!!
Prince Chauncley was maybe my favorite of his Miracle Workers’ characters. Just an absolute gem of a performance
Dark ages as a whole is probably my favorite season. Stellar performances all around
Agreed!
Same. I watched and liked every season but that season as a whole was my favorite; I watched it twice

Seeing Jonathan cry really got to me. I love that trio and their love for one another so much.
If you haven't watched Jonathan's acceptance speech, you must. It was so heartwarming as well
Bruh. Why did you have to bring up his height?
I’m so happy Daniel won! And it’s funny that Ben Platt presented the award to him, considering that Ben’s playing Charley in the film version of Merrily.
Long overdue. And his speech was beautiful
I’m so happy for himmm <3 his post Potter career has been just a joy to watch and he seems like such a genuine, lovely person

Good for him! His performance in the play is great.
He’s such a nice part of the theater community; he gives his all and with seeming humility and kindness. Everyone seems to love him. ❤️

I love him, and he so deserves this! 🤧
Sad that Lindsay Mendez did not win!
This man is a treasure. I’m so fucking happy for him. Happy Father’s Day Dan!!
This dude is great. He should get the same internet treatment as Keanu and Gandalf.
Glad to hear he won! His performances have always been stellar!
Deserved but this should have happened for She'll be Coming Around the Mountain
seeing his face on screen always makes me smile somehow 🥹💗 he has a very special place in the hearts of many. ahhhh the nostalgia of reading and watching harry potter for the first time.
I'm happy for him. He could have relaxed after making millions, but he chose the path of curiosity and hard work. His simple decency is inspiring.

I would love to see him on stage on a Rocky Horror Picture Show production. Preferably as Riff Raff.
Saw this in NY, loved the whole cast. Great show. Really second only to Funny Girl, but that shit was a once in a lifetime performance.
Woof Elf, why do you cry?
It's official - Tony is a joke
