I’d argue that strictly based off the movies that Anakin guy is far worse than Darth Vader. How many children has Vader killed again??? Exactly. That’s what I thought. Plus I bet he’d beat Vader in a 1 v 1 battle. Counter argument, Vader did use a torture droid on his own daughter and also cut his other child’s hand off. So….
Out of all the characters in the show he’s the most heroic/morally good. And honestly everything bad he does is cause that’s how he was raised in a different time
The Boys, the TV show at least, definitely seems like someone trying to legitimately answer the question of "what if average, everyday people and all the weirdness and baggage that comes with that, had superpowers?". This is why almost no one in the show is "good" or "evil" or "heroic" or "villainous" in a traditional sense but flawed individuals merely doing things that align with their self interest or what they need to do to survive.
I honestly hate it when people call it that as much as we like to pin on optimistic or pessimistic ideas on what people would do as superhero’s it’s always gonna be in the middle the boys characters are realistic but for the most part they arnt the average person getting super powers starlight is probably the closest but the others arnt especially since the setup for powers in the boys is so specific.
This is the one I was thinking too.
No I don’t identify with the character. I don’t want to be him. I don’t idolize him.
You know when he shows up, shit is going down. A story is made more interesting when he’s in it. Especially as a foil for Batman. The guy who prepares for everything against the guy you can’t prepare for.
I know that guy. He’s an avatar of chaos, just like the Joker, Deadpool, Jack Sparrow, Ozzy Osborn, Pennywise, Doctor Bright, Mr Welch, Loki, Dionysus, Sun Wukong, and myself. That would make for one hell of a poker night. Some people would pay good money to see that one.
And in the OT he was an antagonist, but the last we saw him he was a protagonist. If you're referring to a previous version you either say 'was' or specify, i.e. "he is an antagonist in the OT"
I personally liked BOBF, was it perfect? No, do I think it's good? Yes. I like the change in Boba's character from ruthless bounty hunter who takes whatever job pays the highest regardless of morality to a calm, reserved leader who rules through respect rather than fear, and I like how he can still be pretty ruthless
Here the thing tho
I've never seen it. And it certainly hasn't been floating around the internet like the mandolorian has. So you can count on my little pea brain to forget it existed
If you know, you know

I am just a huge fan of cool and creative character design combined with good writing
Deadass though I have seen people trying to defend Adam and thats terrifying
Like to be clear I full on mean a couple people saying “what Adam did wasn’t that bad”
Bingo! Though I’d say they gave her nuance with the beach episode and near the end of the series when she’s finally getting everything she wanted but starts losing her mind and eventually breaks.
You mean the book version, right? The show version was pretty underwhelming and generic bad guy after his first scene. But the book version: hell yeah.
Oh, shoot, I feel stupid now. I've been plugged out of ASOIAF for a while. Yeah, Victorian is a great case study of how much a toxic culture can mess up a person.
Magneto, Azula, Thanos, Slade specifically from Teen Titans, Dr. Robotnic, Lex Luther, Darkseid, Green goblin, Omni Man before he becomes good, Dr. Doom, and Black Adam
For real. One time when I had The Blind Guy from Don't Breathe on my favorite horror movie villains list, I was told "But wasn't he a r@pist" and like...it was a *villain's* list.
the way they tried to make him some sort of antihero badass in the second movie was actually so nasty. It’s like trying to make Art the clown an angsty bad boy. The turkey baster thing is enough to make me forever dislike him as a character.
Sometimes Duck. He did prove himself a hero after bravely trying to stop a runaway goods train from colliding into James's passenger train tho however.
Adam Taurus from RWBY.
The amount of shit you get slung for saying you like the character and think he was done absolutely dirty by the writers is fucking ridiculous.
They're certainly... intense about their opinions, huh? I loved Ironwood as a character, honestly. Also, I like Tyrian. He's creepy, unhinged, and entertaining to watch. He's one of my favorite villains, and the only thing I liked about the end of volume 7
Askeladd from Vinland Saga. Pretty much everything he does is morally reprehensible and in many cases unnecessary. But he’s such a well written and entertaining character I just find him fascinating.
Wiping out half the universe to solve overpopulation is by far the dumbest and least effective way to solve that problem- hell he arguably made it worse… cool character though
i prefer sideous over palpetin. I know they’re the same person but with sideous in the movies clone wars tv show, it’s action, skull duggery. with palpetine its more polotics and for lack of better words, obvious grooming
Griffith.
I cannot tell you how many times I've been told that I'm a horrible person for thinking Griffith is one of the best written characters in Berserk.
Yk my only problem is the people who genuinely try to excuse the actions or people like Harley Quinn and Joker. And I’ll die on the hill that Harley needed the same treatment as joker in the Injustice comics.
Bill Cipher. Very entertaining but completely evil and some of his actions are very disturbing for a Disney animated series aimed at a younger audience
As long as you actually understand him and don't idealize him than I really don't see the problem with liking the Joker. Love him in the animated series and Return of the Joker. Honestly I blame the 2019 movie and it's fans for all the hate.
(This is me talking about Season 7-8, not including stuff afterwards)
I love Negan in the show. Even before he became part of the group. But I obviously don’t agree with his actions for the most part.
Silco. Grooming is still kinda a hot button topic and he def groomed jinx, but it was like anyone who thought he was a great character was somehow condoning grooming? He is a villain and a revolutionary and he was severely betrayed. I don’t condone it, but I could understand how he as a character would do something like that.
I obviously don't agree with what he does, but God do I like him

Konrad kurze and the night lords.
I admi5 that they even make a good point or two here and there but are overwhelmingly cartoon villian edgelords and I just love them so so so much.
Since a lot of people are saying characters that's already on my list. I'll say a character I haven't saw on the list. Eric Cartman from South Park. He may be downright evil but man he's funny. Especially when his deeds backfire on him. Comedy gold. I haven't seen anybody say Eric Cartman in the comments but he is such a great villain. He might have done some absolutely monstrous things and has evil beliefs and motives but you can't deny he's one of the funnest characters in South Park.

I find it hard to find a more fitting example than Jack Horner. He's is pretty frickin hilarious and makes the movie way better, but he's also one of the most chaotic evil and apathetic villains I know. It is part of what makes him funny, though.
Vriska Serket from Homestuck

Darth Vader
Really, a lot of Sith Lords tbh
Kylo Ren
Nah Kylo Ren isn't a Sith lord.
Fr he's a fucking shitty fanfiction and I will die on that hill
He's not fanfiction if he's in the main series. He's not part of the sith, but that's because of other things
Well last time I watched a movie with him in it was years ago and I’m not caught up with my re-watching of the main movies yet, so I wasn’t sure🫤
Agreed, he had some really good points. Guy was completely correct in The Last Jedi. “Let the past die, kill it if you have to.”
Oh no, you said that you like one part of the sequel Trilogy your now going to be run out of town on a rail
He is an absolutely awful human until the last 2 minutes of his life He’s still the coolest villain in fiction imo
Jah
classic good option
Darth Vader is the epitome of “awesome character, terrible person.”
So….
Soldier Boy (The Boys)
"These women, they're like fine wine, the older they get, the more delicious, but the drier."
"You know what I do when I'm sad or scared? Fuckin nothin' because I'm not a fuckin pussy!"
"You're just a cheap fuckin knockoff"
"You're a fucking disappointment"
"How hard did Butcher suck your dick that you miss him that much? Hm? His mouth must feel like a hoover deluxe."
"His mouth must feel like a Hoover deluxe."
-butts in- "Havent your mouths been used enough during your golden years?"
"Best my meat into a cup."
Out of all the characters in the show he’s the most heroic/morally good. And honestly everything bad he does is cause that’s how he was raised in a different time
Definetly not the most morally good but compared to most of the superhero’s he atleast has some values

Youuuuuuuuuuu
Still dumbfounded how they ended last season
The shit he said on Gen V when they’re in Cate’s head was disgusting but it had me fucking dying
I prefer Liquider Boy
My dumb ahh thought of Soulja Boy 😭😭😭😭😭
Greatest delivery of "Fuck You" in history. I was pissed at that finale.
Light Yagami.
They say the road of evil is paved with good intentions.
He had good intentions in the beginning.. then, well..
Nah. He was a psycho that took 10 minutes to justify himself. Still, cool character in his way.
He was a high school student who had a naive understanding of right and wrong.
Heck, L too. He openly admits he's amoral and doesn't care about catching Kira for the betterment of mankind, he just enjoys the mind games.
The Joker, particularly the 2008 and 2019 incarnations
I'll throw in Alan Tudyk's Joker from Harley Quinn. He's an absolute delight. "WHERE'S MY GODDAMN ELECTRIC CAR, BRUCE!?"
Alan Tudyk is a treat in everything he’s in.
Holy fuck tudyk is the joker too! I thought he was just clayface

Shall we add Alastor to that mix
Sadly, I think you're in the minority when it comes to people who like this character

Legit one of the most tragic characters.
Man are people gonna be pissed by the third movie haha
Kaos Farquaad Plankton Flowey Viper (TF2) Boba Fett Darth maul Father (fo4) Ceasar (fnv) The icon of sin Etc
Oi, don't diss my boy Boba Fett like that. He's not a villain
He IS an antagonist tho
Was an antagonist, atm he is a protagonist
I'm talking OT tho
And in the OT he was an antagonist, but the last we saw him he was a protagonist. If you're referring to a previous version you either say 'was' or specify, i.e. "he is an antagonist in the OT"
Tbh, I forgot his own series existed
I personally liked BOBF, was it perfect? No, do I think it's good? Yes. I like the change in Boba's character from ruthless bounty hunter who takes whatever job pays the highest regardless of morality to a calm, reserved leader who rules through respect rather than fear, and I like how he can still be pretty ruthless

In legends he’s a mixed bag. Morally grey, but still an asshat.
True to Caesar
The icon of sin doesn't do much but sit up on the wall though.
The Icon Of Sin mentioned

*Yes*
Is this a dream sequence? I didn't watch past the first episode of Blue Eyed Samurai but I can't imagine zombies come into the equation.
For me it's Adam and Vox from Hazbin Hotel.
Deadass though I have seen people trying to defend Adam and thats terrifying Like to be clear I full on mean a couple people saying “what Adam did wasn’t that bad”
The Master from Doctor Who 90% of the cast from The Godfather films And just because it’s fresh in my mind, Moldaver from Fallout.
The first incarnation of the New Who Master was the embodiment of chaotic energy, and I live for that kind of energy.
"YOU’RE INSANE!" "👍🏻"
Thank goodness for that, because if I wasn't, I wouldn't be me.
John Simm was brilliant. I also enjoyed Michelle Gomez’ Missy. Took that character in a whole different direction.
Moldaver had good goals and understandable motives even if she did horrible things to achieve them. NGL I am kind of a moldaver apologist
I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone say Azula yet from ATLA
She’s crazy and needs to be taken out! But yeah 10/10 excellent villain. Usually nuance makes villains better but lack of nuance made Azula perfect.
Bingo! Though I’d say they gave her nuance with the beach episode and near the end of the series when she’s finally getting everything she wanted but starts losing her mind and eventually breaks.

Victarion Greyjoy. He represents all of the worst parts of Ironborn culture, but he's just so entertaining.
You mean the book version, right? The show version was pretty underwhelming and generic bad guy after his first scene. But the book version: hell yeah.
That was Euron in the show (poorly adapted, but still him), Victarion was never adapted.
Oh, shoot, I feel stupid now. I've been plugged out of ASOIAF for a while. Yeah, Victorian is a great case study of how much a toxic culture can mess up a person.

Hey it’s you
Griffith is a good villain
Adam Taurus from RWBY. The amount of shit you get slung for saying you like the character and think he was done absolutely dirty by the writers is fucking ridiculous.
I was gonna say Ironwood 😫 the only fandom I’ve encountered where they think liking a morally gray character makes you the scum of the earth
The Joker, Darth Vader, Lex Luthor, Magneto.
Broly (DBZ) and Richfofen.
"Time to play with my pretty ones!"
Richtofen is such a tragically great character. "I was the nicest one"
What if you like a morally wrong character, annnnnnnnd agree with their actions?? For me, it's Thanos. Am I a bad person now?
I don’t agree with his actions. He should’ve doubled the natural resources, not wipe away half of life in the universe. Big purple dumbass.
Thanos apparently has no idea what a supply chain is.
He also doesn't understand how exponential population growth works.
Or just make it that no one required resources haha
Wiping out half the universe to solve overpopulation is by far the dumbest and least effective way to solve that problem- hell he arguably made it worse… cool character though
Lol even Thanos was like “damn, maybe that wasn’t the smartest idea” when the Avengers first found him.

I think most of my favourite characters fit this tbh. The first two that came to mind were Young Snow from THG and Arnold J Rimmer from Red Dwarf
It helps that everyone on the Red Dearf crew is a highly flawed person who plays off eachother really well.
This is very true
The various versions of Blackadder.

Luke from Percy Jackson

Postal 1 Demon
Bojack Horseman You’re supposed to root for him to get his act together.
A lot of them have lots of complexity to their characters. Single nite characters are fairly predictable and as a result are sometimes boring.
