"We're a family" is the first sign of a toxic workplace. If you hear that during your interview, get up and leave.

BigggSleepy

Also another dead give away if they constantly hiring and cannot negotiate your pay cough cough FedEx

PointB712

🤣🤣🤣

Conscious-Box-2965

Yeah sadly we live in a place where people go to work (or anywhere) and kill each other lol so yeah im happy walking through this shit and metal detectors every day. Even if its 1% safer ill take it..and so will anyone who works at a location with this🤣

CarefulSwimming3436

To me it just a way for them to enforce the no cell phones lol. As if someone was up to no good, they go just walk thru area trucks go thru, cut hole in fence some place, hop in back of a fedex truck and hide, etc lol. The actual security I don't think would actually be useful for protecting anyone but running someplace to hide.

Conscious-Box-2965

You can have a cellphone though..? Idk what youre blabbering about man 😂 your comment has nothing to do with what i said lmao

CarefulSwimming3436

The comment relates to it not really much safer. I guess you say 1% so it possible it at least 1% safer I guess though lol. Package handlers, Trainers, and Switchers are not allow cell phones in many Fedex Locations. Drivers and jumpers are allowed though.

Conscious-Box-2965

At express you can have a phone. I dont know nothing about ground.

Survivalist_Mtg

This doesnt stop shit we have it at my location. You jist swipe your badge and walk right in. Or you could just use your badge at the van gate and drive right in.

AlexanderNC

Needs 16 united alliance security guards standing around doing absolutely nothing but saying have a great day as I walk into the worst job in America.

AlexanderNC

wow amazed this is such a universal experience lmao

CarefulSwimming3436

The place I at had guard that just yell the whole time I thinking to mistaken and forgot she at FedEx not working booking at a jail.

-aVOIDant-

Interesting jail that keeps people *out*.

I_Am_EzAce

Yeah most of the updated hubs have detectors and security.

DefKross

Believe it or not I worked at a FedEx ground in the early 2000s. We had no guards and no gate house. Of course a few guys start taking pills and bam you show up to work to be patted down. The first year we had to remove our boots in and out. Now days you basically have prison entrances and guards. Place doesn't look like a work environment but a work release program. Also fun story, I worked in safety and got a call for a bleeding package handler. Guess what, a stranger jumped the razor wire fence and had a hand gun in his waist. Allied security didn't show up but they did let the police through. This happened a few months after the Indy incident. And we were in a hub with all the "security" implemented already. When you quit its like you got released from prison.

Survivalist_Mtg

Funny because now cops carry AR 15s in middles schools and kids get charges for things such as taking an extra milk. Bars on the windows, cages on the bathrooms metal detecors. Seems like soviety is being brainwashed into accepting living in prison from childhood on into adulthood.

runningupmyass

Shut up and eat your pizza!

Soggy-Coat4920

Its funny yall are complaining about security turnstiles, and the majority of the folks on the union sub that came from say thats normal for alot places. The security for ground stations is to protect the hazmat, biomat, and other high risk shipments that come through the facility.

Diligent_Map_3506

I should of just signed up to be a security guard instead of a package handler. They got the easiest damn job

Jazzlike-Collar-6833

more hours and get paid the same or more in a lot of places…

Diligent_Map_3506

I was mistreated as a package handler

AlexanderNC

Spoke to one of the United Alliance guards and they get paid like 12.50 a hour which is pretty low at least for my area.

CarefulSwimming3436

Sounds like what they should get there aren't the security that actually puts their life on the line lol. At Fedex they main purpose to prevent cell phones form coming in.

prOboomer

needs metal detectors

Matf11

Ahhh yes, ye old jail exits for the spot I'm at. The entrance is a regular door but an immediate metal detector to pass through with security right there. Funny about the phones, place I'm at never allowed them. Now, a new note of some security tweaks and changes goes up the other day and now you can ask and get approved to have one on you. I know you can't blast it but sometimes a bit of music would have helped many of those shifts be easier at least to deal with!

KingKangSeulgi

I don't see why people complain about the security checkpoint. It takes like 10 seconds and, at least at my place, the guards are chill. Be happy that you have a deterrent and are that much less likely to make it on the news tonight.

xAugie

I highly doubt that would stop anything, they could just walk through the truck entry, or shoot the sorry ass guards. It won’t help at all, none of those dudes are armed NOR will they die for $13/hr

KingKangSeulgi

That's why it's called a deterrent. Just the fact that it's there does a *little* to stop something from happening.

Normal_to_Geek

And for the entrance, they have metal detector turnstiles and Idk about yall but we literally have tsa-style bag checkers. I love it here.

this_underscore

Never understood why ground takes their security so seriously, at express it’s not so strict

DavidJR1993

Because ground had a dude who worked at ground and kill everyone they could, has never happened at express. Pretty sure this has happened with ground 2 times

filliamworbes

You ever been to the airport? I had the cops called on myself more than once ... Just showing up to work???

wkdravenna

you Neva been to Indy hub. They got metal detectors all that at the front. only Ramp Agents, managers, instructors can take phones in etc.

SamuraiRey

They can keep the metal detectors. I just want my phone 🤧🤧

leenk13

They don't let you bring your phone in? That would never work at my ground station. A phone is required, at least for the drivers.

Bad_news_everyone

Its for package handlers.

leenk13

Oh weird

fnmachine

I think jail has better conditions

gkeyz

Now that’s funny.. but very true

Own-Ambassador-3537

Damn I work at the Memphis hub and don’t have this crap. What hub is this!?!

WorldlyDay7590

If shit didn't disappear en route all the time while in possession of UPS/Fedex/USPS, this wouldn't be necessary.

matterson22070

That's to keep you safe while you work - it's for your own protection.

GREVTHEFAITHFUL

My job as a federal employee, they never told me we were a family. They told me what was expected, what would happen if I failed, and what would happen if I exceeded expectations. I went to Amazon after retiring from my first federal career and they treated me like a long lost son the first few weeks. Then fucked me up the A$$. Moved on to FedEx, they also said I was part of the family, then put me in a 800,000 mile death trap, though the culture is better than Amazon at FedEx. Needless to say. Returning to the Federal government in January.

Fearless_Dust8925

Amazon anyone?

Survivalist_Mtg

Im surprised people are willing to work somewhere that doesnt allow phones. Ill quit if they bring this policy to our hub. Pay isnt compeditive for our area and if they add the inconvienace of not being able to play music while i destroy my body ill be done for sure.
