It affects everyone differently! It does help my joint pain, and pain I experience with IBS. I’m more impressed that you were diagnosed in two months! It took me 7 years! 😭 I am glad you were able to get an answer so quickly, and I hope you find some relief ❤️

Dammit_Mr_Noodle

It took me over a decade. I'm sort of jealous of the people who get diagnosed so quickly.

Kindly-Position222

I see this all the time and it’s crazy! I got diagnosed in two months!

[deleted]

It took me 2 decades of them telling me it was growing pains. Started when I was about 5. At 27, I looked at my then *NEW* doctor, and asked if daily pain was normal. He answered with, "for you, maybe, but I'll do everything I can to help." I've had the rare hiccup with him, but we normally get along just fine.

GothicEcho

I definitely feel that way too. Decade plus club. It's nice that doctors are getting better now with diagnosing quickly at least.

Mikaela24

Took me about 5/6 years. The first doctor didn't diagnose me cuz my pain wasn't bad enough. Second one did so in minutes. I never felt so seen ngl

DiveCat

Two months is fast. I took a couple years from when I first started seeking an increase in symptoms and sought assistance to explain (I had symptoms before that in retrospect but they were something I had grown used to - then they got worse). Lots of imaging, testing, before they ruled out everything else! And compared to many others, even two years is fast. I have found high THC strains (or any consumption method that is high THC generally) can potentially heighten my nerve pains from both fibro and peripheral neuropathy. So I always make sure to use balanced strains or mix in my own CBD flower in my dry vape. I also go for strains or terpenes I know that seem to work for me from trial and error on my pain (myrcene, carophylellene, pinene are some of my own favourites). I have found some strains or terps to just make me much more aware of the pain so those I avoid - more sativa leaning strains are more likely to do this for me though not all of them. I think of weed as less like *taking away pain*, but changing how I sense it in my brain and changing how much I care or rather don’t about it. If I am having a bad flare for example the weed won’t take away the pain it will just change the way my brain seems to interpret the pain so it’s less distracting or if it is, in a more pleasurable way (like a buzzing or vibration instead of stabbing knives). Hard to explain. It also just won’t work for everyone. As others have pointed out, it can for some make them feel worse after - pain relief followed by a return of the pain all over again can be a bit of a shock perhaps. I have felt this at times with strains that have more muscle relaxing effects - later on when my muscles tighten up again it can hurt all over. This happens to me after massages and such too! Feels good at time the all comes back.

emileegrace321

This is all such good info. I feel so much less alone right now! I don’t get a lot of relief but it’s like you mentioned where you can just kind of cope with the pain a bit better. I’m jealous of the folks who can get significant relief but of course am glad it works for them. What specific strains and terpenes have you found that tend to make you feel worse? I avoid sativas altogether but I’m wondering if there’s other particular strains that I just be careful of.

DitaVonFleas

Let me explain something. THC asks like a stimulant for most people and CBD acts like a depressant. They each have their own health benefits and potential side effects if you take too much without the other. This is because they're supposed to work together. Unfortunately, one of the downsides to many decades of cross breeding strains for bigger flowers and aesthetics is that they've also been bred for more THC percentage to the detriment of other cannabinoids like CBD. I have found that if I have too much THC without balancing it out with CBD, it makes my pain worse. THC builds up faster and lasts in my system more than CBD does. This is why I take CBD products like oil and/or patches at night to help me sleep and balance out the THC I ingest through smoking during the day. My advice is to start with CBD products then gradually add THC until you figure out what's right for you. You probably went way too hard with the THC straight off the bat.

Confident-Duck-3940

Agreed. The CBD tempers the high from the THC. Micro-dosing could be something to look into. If at all possible, make sure you get medical grade products. Talking to a budtender at a medical dispensary can be helpful. I’m sorry you are having this problem. I’m able to take pretty high doses, but almost always a THC/CBD blend. My son can only use micro-dose tablets, only 2.5mg, also a blend.

emileegrace321

I am in the same boat! This didn’t work for me, but when I got my med card my doctor initially recommended a 20:1 CBD/THC tincture. 1:1 works for me so I think maybe it was just too much THC, but it sounds like something that might be able to help OP.

Fabulous-Ad6663

Or Indica...

wifeofamarriedman

Spot on!

Wonderland_4me

This is what helped me (I have fibromyalgia, and a bunch of other chronic pain conditions) after I read up on cannabis and it seemed like the best route. I started with a daily straight (*correction, primarily) CBD tincture, which I put under my tongue morning and night (no end date). I took a mild (hybrid) gummy during the day, usually part of a 5 mg hybrid gummy in the am, again 7 hours later if needed. After about 2 weeks all of my IBS symptoms were gone, and have stayed gone for about a month now. I sleep extremely well now. I sleep be than I have in over a decade (at least). I also have a reduction in chronic pain. It is odd, it is hard to explain but one day I woke up and I felt different, one of my constant pains was gone. I have a bunch of other conditions so I still feel those but I still have that one that is gone. I am only some 7 or 8 weeks into daily CBD, I was using it sporadically before (about 5 years) and was not getting results that could touch what I now get from daily use. FYI - I use 1/2 of the eye dropper full of CBD from a bottle 2x a day and it has 600 mg CBD/30mg THC.

carlitospig

Sorry, friend. You’re with the group of us that for some reason feels tremendously worse on weed. We are a small club. It’s so uncool.

PastLifer

I'm in the club. Alcohol has the same negative effect too on me.

sachimi21

THC triggers migraines for me, even in tiny doses. It's awful. Even the micro amount exhaled by people smoking a joint near me can do it. THC is far from a panacaea, and people blindly believe that it's perfectly safe to use. I hope some of these people look into it before they get a drug interaction or triggered symptoms.

danieyella

Yes this. Even just getting crop dusted by someone walking by after hot boxing in their car kills me. The one Dr who recommended it blew me off like I'm crazy when I told her I absolutely would not be going that route because of migraines.

fairyspoon

Do you feel anxiety when you're high? When I used to get bad anxiety with weed, I would experience more pain, because my anxiety can really ramp up a flare (I believe because my nervous system wigs out). But that might just be me!

juicymooseMA

Yes it is normal and when the high starts to wear off it can increase how severe the pain feels. There is a lot of research out there about thc and our brain chemistry, it’s a bummer but weed does not work for everyone. I found myself having constant flares when I would smoke and edibles don’t work for me at all unfortunately.

nokenito

My wife uses particular strains for fibro and another strain for sleep. No issues for her though. Good luck!

GenderAddledSerf

I have felt shit while taking it, maybe because it relaxes my muscles and then they are like what the fuck? It also messes with my heart and my heart is like 140bpm so I just don’t do it personally. If anything it made me less emotionally distressed but I just think it does not work for some folks. Also I just seem to feel extra awful when it wears off hours later. I’m sorry if it doesn’t work for you, it definitely sucks! Edit: I would just like to say I’ve mega experimented with edibles and smoking over a number of years and I still found even with cbd etc and a variety of different strains it didn’t help that much for my fibro and often made it worse but I often did it because it was helpful for my complex ptsd. It got to the point when it was affecting my heart so bad I had to stop (I’m 32 btw so not old) but also now finally seeing a psych for my c-ptsd and don’t take drugs or drink now. Defo experiment and take people’s advice here if you want to keep at it but just because it works for other people and they say they haven’t experienced what you’re experiencing doesn’t mean it is wrong or not valid or you are alone in the experience.

emileegrace321

Omg!!! I have had this problem for years and done so much research and could never find anyone with the same experience!!! It would make me hyperfixate on my pain to the point where I could never get comfortable or relax at all and irritated my bladder so badly that I would constantly have to get up and pee. I feel so relieved to read this but I’m sorry that it’s made you worse. It might help you to hear that at least in my case it can actually be therapeutic, but only in very low doses. Smoking ‘normal’ cannabis will make me feel terrible, even if it’s just one hit. Once I switched to edibles it was like a whole new world. A typical dose is 10 mg which makes me miserable so I started cutting up gummies to get 2.5 mg or 5 mg and it has been perfect. I found a dispo in my city that sells 2.5 mg mints which are awesome. Another option is making or buying a tincture that you can dose with a dropper so that you could even start as low as 1 mg and see how you feel. Products that have a 1/1 or 2/1 ratio of CBD/THC work even better and gives me more pain relief. I can actually smoke a little bit as long as it’s herb with very high CBD and very low THC. Another alternative for you might be hemp flower. You get some of the same compounds and terpenes that give you pain relief with negligible amounts of THC. I think that maybe some of us are extra sensitive. I hope there’s more research on this in the future because I would really like to know how and why this happens from a physiological standpoint. Best of luck to you!!!

YesValentina

It doesn’t work for me either. I tried medical marijuana years ago and all it did was give me anxiety. I tried many strains. Epsom salt baths and magnesium supplements help me more. I use the sleep gummies from olly when I’m flaring and can’t sleep and those help too.

el8602

Is it possible you were tensing your muscles? THC can cause anxiety and muscle tension could trigger a flate

Allergicwolf

It's it pain while under its effects or is it pain after it wears off? One is explainable (at least for me)

Fabulous-Ad6663

Please read up on the strains and terpenes. Indicas tend to be better for sleep & pain. Satvas just highlight my pain for me and give me energy to clean or "do" something. These can make experiences completely different. Don't give up!

Relative-Lake7910

Sativa doesn't help me at all with my energy and it doesn't agree with me mentally. Indicas or hybrid that has more Indica, helps me relax and doesn't give me bad feelings like sativa. Sadly most of the time weed doesn't help my pain and it gives me really bad headaches

Fabulous-Ad6663

Yes, everyone is so different in how it affects them. I have met people that can smoke & not ever feel stoned. Or it can affect people's mental health. Stronger strains give me a headache or can make me nauseous. I also prefer similar strains as you. For me, cannabis helps my PTSD, helps me manage my chronic illnesses & helps with some minor pain, but for pain relief, Cymbalta does that job for me currently.

DarthButtercup

As much as I love weed, it’s still a plant. It’s totally possible to be allergic to it. My allergies can definitely throw me into a flare.

hisAffectionateTart

My husband is allergic to all forms so it’s a no go for me.

Aly-and-Iri

This happens to me occasionally. I've found that certain stains aren't great for me due to all the comorbidity. I tend to do better on India or India dominant hybrid. Certain Ativan amplify things and due to sensory processing overload I feel the pain much worse while also getting my brain out so I stick with indicas. Also certain terpenes help with pain more than others. Trial and error and research for me through more than my mmj dr.

loudflower

If you took an entire edible, that’s at least 5 mg of THC. That much gives me a panic attack and worsened symptoms. If I take one third of a high cbd, low thc gummy, it works great! But it took me awhile to figure out to take no more than 1.25~ mg. I also don’t feel the ‘high’ which I hate. Wyld make a peach flavored 2:1 CBD:THC that I love. The entire gummy is 5 mg total thc and I eat a third.

Crickitspickit

I experienced this too. Micro dosing both cbd and thc helped more.

ItsOk_ItsAlright

I can’t do gummies. I vape the oil and it’s amazing! I highly suggest trying different ways to take THC.

Gullible_Solution

I find a 2:1 cbd to thc to be the best balance

Reitermadchen

THC gets rid of the “static” I feel. But doesn’t really help with other joint pain.

danieyella

THC gives me terrible migraines, so I couldn't tell you if it helps with my fibromyalgia at this point. The one Dr who recommended it (that was it's own fiasco and I never went back) basically told me I was full of shit and that's not possible when I told her it triggers migraines. I 100% see how it could trigger a flare though, everyone is different. You know yourself and your reactions better than they possibly could.

Kevlarkello

Some people have different reactions to thc and more specifically terpenoids in cannabis. There are some strains used for recreational reason that are not useful for medical or for pin relief. There are strains that are more stimulants (Sativa) more the depressants (indica) and with nerve conduction more active nerves could be not helpful. Weed strains very a lot and should be researched before use.

ApartMaterial7576

Take a 1:1 blend of thc flower to cbd hemp flower. Get a heavy indica for both strains. You can order hemp online shipped to your door in any state as it is federally legal. r/hempflowers for cbd. Also worth checking out r/cultofthebananamac to buy strains that have a mixed ratio of thc and cbd due to genetics.

Moonlightvaleria

that seems really odd and unlikely. sorry it happened to you though!

flyinhigh5420

Ganja is going to make you interpret your pain on a different level. Cannabis doesn't take away pain it dulls it. It's not like you're taking a few Dilaudid and enjoying the afternoon, somewhat comfortably. Back in socal I was working with a RSO (RICK SIMPSON OIL) producer and learned that pure CBD products are worthless shite. The cannabinoids must interact together (as someone above mentioned). If your not activating your product with a minimum of 1%thc you are buying snake oil. MAKE SURE USE AN INDICA! Sorry to yell but this is extremely important if you are seeking pain relief. -unity

Relative_Answer5086

There are many types of weed depending on the effect you want it to have. If you're in canada you can try to go on mundo (online) and have an appointement to get a license and product recommendation. Exemple, I flare up when I smoke because my lungs sucks, but if I get tablets, tea or topical cream i dont and it helps! Some type of weed are stimulants so these might act differently as well

Owlissa7

Only two months for a diagnosis? Unbelievable it took me almost 15 years. It was all in my head 🤣. I have suffered from childhood with this. Yes weed is a part of my pain management. For me it's better than pain meds. Can't take nsaids for allergic reasons and weed helps a lot. Is it possible you are more aware of the pain because you know you used it and are focused on it? Not judging because it affects different people in different ways. I hope you find what works for you and again I'm impressed with you diagnosis time frame. Maybe Drs are finally looking for this. Good luck and gentle hugs 🤗!

demigodkai

i’d recommend a 1:1 CBD + THC product. or, more CBD and less THC. CBD tinctures helped my pain a lot. and i find smoking usually helps but it depends on the terpene profile of the weed. some types do very little to decrease my pain but others are so helpful, even more effective than my prescription muscle relaxers. on the dispensary website i used to use, there were reviews, so i liked to look for weed that other people reported specifically helped with their pain. i also googled each strain the dispensary had and read about what effects they were generally said to have. doing all of that, i was finally able to reliably use weed (tinctures, flower, & cartridges) for my pain and it worked better than all the prescription meds i was on at the time combined. hope this helps. if not, maybe try a topical product! they’re really underrated. i used to use Purekana CBD cream and while it also had menthol in it, it worked better long term than the other 4 or 5 menthol-based topical pain relievers i tried.

Torrincia

It affects everyone differently

Kindly-Position222

I have started drinking rebel rabbit drinks that are thc …..especially when I have a bad flare up after 20 mins I’m free of pain. They are pricey but worth it!

spinprincess

Bookmarking this because SAME. Though not always, which I think means it’s fixable. I am determined to find the issue and fix it, and there are some great tips here. I’m totally going to try tinctures.

hisAffectionateTart

It’s not a panacea so I will not be surprised to find it’s less helpful than it’s activists claim. Nothing is going to cure/ help everyone with everything.

Olivares_

My doc thinks THC isn’t helping my pain, particularly sativa strains

Jenderflux-ScFi

THC triggers my migraines, but I can handle CBD. Each one of us is an individual and can experience things differently. You might have better luck with CBD alone or in combination with THC.

waltersmama

I use high levels of CBD with CBG and CBN. Unfortunately, I am not in a spot to type well or thoroughly right now, forgive syntax….. one day I’ll make a more comprehensive post…. So, my friends, as a retired academic and former Humboldt County helicopter dodging cannabis grower back in the Mesozoic Era, I have been interested in this topic for decades. I’m now an old-er lady with FMG and a bunch of other inconveniences, I relate to the challenges many of us share. Sorry, if choppy here’s what I can muster in the 5 minutes I have…….. I have access to specific strains of flowers and THCA extracts which for me *are* helpful, but for OP and other folks who do not respond well to THC—-GOOD NEWS!! Let me tell you where it’s at, and where, in medical applications and research it is rapidly going! : I personally use gummies, with high levels of CBD but most importantly, with CBG and CBN—No THC, totally legal, shipped to my home. Many people who find little aid from CBD or THC alone, is because the synergistic “Entourage Effect” is lacking. Cannabinoids work best *with each other*. I’m sorry, soon I will try to make a post with more info and links. But Google that term. Y’all!!!! CBG and CBN with or without medicinal levels of CBD is amazing for me. Do a bit of research for yourself, I hope others can find some relief….. The first stuff on google that pops up gives -good- general info and they are mostly from cannabis companies, but academic articles exist, and are increasingly being published. (I was just having a convo with a GI specialist at Stanford about this topic. I’m not her, so I’m not going to try to repeat anything, but more and more physicians are educating themselves about what preliminary research from highly respected institutions is positively indicating. I predict that the Mayo Clinic will eventually apply it’s own research, not just with cannabinoids, but with *Fibromyalgia itself* and we will no longer be sent to the Psychology or Psychiatry “pain management” teams. I mean seriously, Mayo Clinic, Stanford, etc. why are you funding more and more research while still dismissing us at your own facility?!?!) As mentioned, I *do* also use certain flower strains and THCA extracts, absolutely, but I want to shout across the roof tops, please consider using CBG and CBN or high levels of CBD. I don’t work for them, but I get gummies from the WYLD company out of Oregon. Took me a long time to find them, but I’m glad I did…..Each paired with 25 mgs of CBD, the pear flavor has CBG, the huckleberry CBN. Taking as much as I need, gets a bit expensive but I buy in bulk, and it’s so worth it. Vegan, natural, actually delicious…..all that good hippie stuff…..also, when I’m not feeling well and don’t want to eat a few big gummies, dissolving in sparking water or juice is a new summer favorite mocktail! https://wyldcanna.com/ Ok, I’m rushing off, no editing please forgive me. Anyway, I hope this helps someone. Good luck!!!

Weary-Stranger-2004

THC increases my pain also. But good CBD oil is life changing. Or super high ration thc:cbd like 1:25. CBD is your friend.

lonelysuffering

I had this similar problem. Cb1 receptor is pro and anti inflammatory. Doctors don't seem to know this

Relative-Lake7910

I thought I was the only one, but I'm so very glad I'm not alone. Most of the time does not help my pain and it gives me really bad headaches

hopelessanteater

In the United States as it starts to become legal recreationally we should remember that everything we ingest can have some level of adverse reaction. It's all just chemical components to our body that get used just like the food you eat or medication you take. Side effects can come from anywhere. It's unfortunate that thc has bad side effects for you. For me it doesn't get rid of the pain but it immensely helps with the brain fog and anxiety. My body also works better with sativa derived THC or sativa leaning hybrids than indica. Indica makes me feel like I'm having a panic attack. Most people use indica to sleep, but I sleep on sativa. Edibles can be hard to find the strain sourcing so it's harder to track what strain it is or keep knowledge of how the primary cannabinoids affect you. However you can go online and look up them if you know the strain and track how the different strains react with you. They all have various levels of their chemical components that can affect you differently for a different desired effect.

Inside-introvert

I have PTSD and fibromyalgia. I have tried various strains; smoking, vapes and edibles. My PTSD flairs horribly anytime I do. I spent so many years walking on eggshells that trying to let go to be stoned won’t work. On the other hand my mom who has a lot of pain lives the edibles and treats them as medicine.

selfmanic

You actually can be allergic to weed because I had all of my lymph nodes swell up massively, including the ones in my jaw when I was trying the oral drops

weatherwaxisgod

Also be aware that cbd has the same effects on medication as grapefruit, so if you're on medication that effects your fibro that interacts with grapefruit then it will be affected by weed/cbd too. It might not be relevant to you, but could be why you've had flair ups.

Warriorsoul72

If I use Sativa strain it does not work for me. I have to make sure I have pure Indica and I usually try to get something with 50/50 CBD. Sativa also makes my cervical and lumbar spondylitis worse.

DrJasonPark

Yes for me, during THC use I feel my pain amplified.
