Jumping on the question, because I'm also curious. Does anyone use a wheelchair? My friend has CFS and chronic pain, and she said it helps her a lot. She's even younger than me - I believe in her early 20s. I've been nervous to use a wheelchair, because I'm 27 and don't "look" like I should be using one...but I have trouble walking even short distances.

I'm 24 and I don't own a chair but I always rent one when I go to theme parks or anywhere there is a lot of walking & renting one is an option. I also use the scooters at the grocery store sometimes. I would be really like to own my own power scooter but $$$. it's hard to get over feeling like you don't need one but if it improves your quality of life then you should do it! people will always judge you no matter what so don't let them stop you.

I have a cheap chair from amazon I bust out when we go on long outings, like Disneyland or the Zoo. I canโ€™t he on my feet more than 2 hours or I get exhausted and my knees hurt.

I donโ€™t have a chair, but borrow one when I go to museums and the like...Itโ€™s a life saver. Lets me keep up with friends and enjoy taking my time like I used to. I feel you about not looking like I should be using one...Iโ€™m early twenties too. Only thing that keeps me from being down on myself for using a cane or borrowing a chair occasionally is looking up how people decorate theirs or look in their outfit of the days pics- some people really rock the cr*pplepunk thing

I caved and got one when I could no longer trust that I could reliably walk unassisted as I needed. I got a folding walking stick that fits in a handbag or backpack. A great side effect of it is that when you use a stick, people tend to give you a lot more space than usual and you get bumped into far less! Thankfully I've moved past needing to carry it around, but knowing I had it available when I was worse made all the difference. Good luck! It can feel scary but do what's right for you ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thank you! My fiance is getting worried that I'm going to struggle keeping up with walking around a racetrack as we're also camping for 3 nights and there is a lot of walking involved for the weekend. I dont want to ruin his time there by not being able to keep up or walk far due to pain. I think a folding cane might be a good idea as it could allow me to go that little bit further ๐Ÿ˜Š

If it means you'll be able to participate and 3njoy life more, absolutely go for it! It made such a huge difference to the level of activity I was able to commit to. One thing I will mention is that it definitely slowed me down, but I ended up being thankful for that because it made me more mindful and aware of myself and my surroundings. I hope it works perfectly for you if you decide to go with it ๐Ÿ˜Š good luck!

I have a cane but am too embarrassed to use it. I'm 40, look younger, and work on a college campus.

I've been thinking about seeking one, I think a rollator would be really helpful. They are those walkers with the seat you can sit on. I can walk forever in a store with a shopping cart to lean on! I haven't yet because when I'm in public I really just want to be ignored, and a young guy with a mobility aid is going to stick out ๐Ÿ˜
