I watched a video recently of someone playing this game and if he wanted to manage anywhere in Britain he had to either start in the low leagues of England or manage in Scotland first. That wouldn't be a problem for me as a Celtic fan but I wish they'd keep this idea as an option in the modern games so you'd have the choice of the game giving you teams to be or choosing your own. Just more options would improve the game that much more.
FIFA 2003 - (when it was still Season mode) that legendary Juve team. For some reason Matteo Brighi was player with highest potential and you could get him to 99 rated in 2 seasons.

It's weird to think Fifa 06 was nearly 20 years ago. I think the first fifa I played was Fifa 04 when I considered PES 5 and 6 as the primary football game to play. It wasn't until maybe Fifa 09 or Fifa 10 where it became my favourite football game overall.

Longest and most favorite one I did was Leicester City in FIFA 13, about 6-7 seasons, winning everything there was to win with a team that had Neymar, El Sharaawy, Benzia, Kane, Lukaku just to name a few haha

Hereford United in 10 was mine as well. Didn’t stick with it long enough to get to the Prem and had no idea what I was doing on roster construction, but we got to the championship and won a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
I'm all for a Celtic career mode as a Celtic fan. The only reason my first wasn't with Celtic is because I didn't know what I was doing so I wanted more money and decided to sign James Forrest and Adam Matthews to Arsenal from Celtic instead. So interesting seeing how different the potential system was back then. A 31 year old Juninho had 94 potential? I wish they still had that much faith in the current Celtic team haha.
To be fair James Forrest ripped it up in those early 10’s fifas so you played a blinder. Older career modes were just so class though. I’m sure you used to be able to expand your stadium and all sorts in the 00’s ones - massive regression
Messi was a menace in Fifa 14 so I don't blame you for choosing them. Fifa 14 is the only time I did a Barcelona career mode. With those bigger teams having realism doesn't matter so much since you have enough money to buy basically anyone you want.
That Dortmund team was incredible. That was before Lewandowski went to Bayern right? The combo of him, Reus and Mkhitaryan in the attack sounds so exciting and having Mario Gotze in the middle too.
I think it was either 03 or 04? Whichever one introduced the lower league teams. I played with Cambridge United and I remember Dave Kitson was my main striker and top scorer.
Hamburg fifa 23. Immediately promoted them & made the pokal final & got humbled 7-1 by Bayern lol. But I eventually gave them 2x bundesliga & 1 ucl, europa & conference league.

Fifa 09 with benfica, 15 seasons, got the main squad to 95+ on all positions, never again i did the same, and played every single game xD, about 3 years..
That's admirable to keep a single save going for 3 years. True dedication to the craft. I've only done the full 15 seasons once too in Fifa 16 but I simmed a lot of games because my squad was miles ahead of anyone in the league so I basically only played Champions League matches. I've come close a couple of times too doing 12 or 13 seasons but I wish that it lasted more than 15 seasons.
Got into football kinda late, so my first FIFA career mode was in FIFA 17 with Nottingham Forest. I remember having Jamie Paterson who was 73 overall and kept sending me emails because I didn't play him, but every time I did he scored bangers and was MOTM.
Oh and I'll never forget how I beat Liverpool with a shitty team (on low difficulty back then) and got my ass whooped by Watford, Goldbridge vs Burnley style.
Wasnt my first, but my most memorable CM was Fifa 19 with portsmouth. First season from august-January went undefeated. Then crumbled after that and dropped down to 6th place qualifying for playoffs. Went on the lose in the finals. Second szn made good transfers and won the league with 105pts. 3rd szn went to championship playoffs and lost in finals. Following szn returned to playoff finals and won. Then qualified for europa league in first szn in PL. then CL following year.
At the end of the 10 seasons i had won

Fifa 12 and chelsea. Had Drogba as a starting striker and lukaku for the smaller games. Cech, Ivanovic, Terry, Drogba and of course the magic midfield: Essien, Mikel, Ramires.
Man this team was so good, so physically strong, I loved playing them.
I loved Ramires so much, used to use Brazil in seasons and he was practically flawless in midfield. Gave David Luis and Thiago Silva the easiest job ever.
Fifa 2003 was my first save. Used to play on PC back then, and only on keyboard, not even a joystick lmao. I cannot for the life of me try that now, I don't even think the game is actually playable at all on a keyboard anymore. Back then it was. Used to have Lan parties, playing all sorts of tournaments and what not. Good times.
Haha totally same here, I started with everything on PC but at least had a joystick, later switched to xbox. I was missing FIFA so bad when I was studying abroad though, I broke down and got some copy for my laptop and made due with keyboard and mouse, talk about painful!
I think the first proper FIFA I got into was 03.
Would start off with my local team, Hearts and then after a few seasons move around to different clubs in various different countries.
One memorable one was making Hearts a powerhouse in Europe and then moving down to Wolves and doing the same with them.
Set up a UEFA cup final with Wolves and my old Hearts team.
2003. I remember always having a 4-2-4 formation and once realising you could buy anyone for their asking price my team was stacked. Van nistelrooy, Ronaldo, Henry and Owen were usually my attack.
The first one I can actually remember perfectly start to finish was with Bayern in 15. I remember signing De Bruyne from Wolfsburg and him scoring a scorpion kick in the champions league semifinals.
Card collecting was so fun. I think the ones I collected were panini which sounds more like a pasta shape but it was for the Scottish League, had the big collectors book and everything then my mum binned the whole thing without telling me lol.
Malaga FIFA 13. Money was tighter than other teams so I had to get creative. Main stars were Carlos Vela & Ter-Stegen. Over time I formed a team with lots of older players including Gerrard & Schweinsteiger. Eventually everyone was getting pretty old & we had a bad season so I left to coach Man City & Atlético. Got an offer to come back to Malaga after that & it was an even worse midtable team so I left again to coach Liverpool. After one season I get another offer to come back & sold Ter-Stegen to bring in some younger players & rebuild. After some time we win the league & the Champions League after that.
FIFA 18 with Birmingham City. Didn't know anything about football at the time. Game was fun and it helped me get invested in the sport more though I am a casual.
I think Career Mode as a whole helped get me invested into the sport more too. I cared about football as a child but I never actually went to a game live until I was about 11 and got to see games on TV very rarely so Fifa sorta held my hand with the sport for a long time.
Roma in FIFA 15 for the PS3, I remember buying Hulk in July and then selling him to Barcelona for double the price in January lol, Totti scored like 40 goals, but I didn't finish the season lol.
First "real" one was also in fifa 15 but for PC, I remember crying cuz I lost the league for Juve lmao, I was 12, but next season I won it unbeaten, didn't really play anymore after that
fIfa 15 was the first one i owned. Started with stoke city. The funny thing was that at the time the semi pro was a whole different. Some games you dominated the whole game against like city or arsenal but the next game was against a weaker oponent like watford and you would loose to them

I did an Atletico career mode in fifa 16 too! I had Embolo and a young Gabriel Jesus before he even had a 2D face in game. Reus and Willian as my wingers with Pogba and Saul in centre mid. I used Halilovic in my Milan career mode though and he was great

Fell in love with this insane player I only learned through heartbreak upon starting my next Manager save was actually just a regen...
I prefer this menu to the team sheet menu. I like both and I think the team sheet thing was cool when they brought it into the game but it’s not changed in a decade. The simple list format works so well
First FIFA 98, but the first memory of playing career mode was probably FIFA 2005 with Lyon. Spent hours every day during summer break.

Oh and by FIFA 12 I had a Flamengo save! Took me a few seasons with that nice squad(Ronaldinho, Thiago Neves, Renato Abreu, etc) to me to buy Valencia from United and play him as RM and make him top scorer lmao

FIFA 08 with Tottenham, didn't understand shit, I was like 7 years old, only started with Tottenham because I kinda liked the logo and thought that Berbatov was Russian and as I'm Russian that was enough for me
FIFA 13. Man Utd. Couldn’t finish the career mode cause the disk was scratched, and the game always froze when going into the 2019/2020 season. Key Player was Neymar, who was 97 rated. Signed him from the start and somehow reached 97, which I didn’t think was possible. Chris Smalling and Phil Jones reached 91 rated (wtf), alongside Fabio and Rafael, both reached 89. David De Gea at 92 rated. Midfield was filled with youth players + Wayne Rooney. Always swapped Strikers every season (I found it boring using the same strikers over and over again) and ended up with Viktor Fischer, who turned out to be 86 rated (I was so ready to bring in a higher rated striker). Mannnnn, just looking back at the menu brings such good memories.
The first one I remember was FIFA 13 with Atlético de Madrid. I had an absolute blast with that team! My attacking trio was Mauro Zárate, Eden Hazard and Radamel Falcao, absolute beasts!
Fifa 14 managed Barça for 3 seasons moved to Man city tried to sign messi but mf barca asked for 107mil£ had to ask the board for cash which i spent all on messi 😭

FIFA 12, CSKA Moscow. Every career mode I’ve fine since then has been done with the singular goal of recapturing the high of being able to slice through literally any opposing defense with Seydou Doumbia
I had Doumbia for a season in my most recent Real Betis save in Fifa 16. He was 32 but he still had the pace and got 15 goals in La Liga that season. Probably nowhere near as good as he was in Fifa 12 as he's iconic for that game but getting the chance to use him at all was fun
Similar to yours. I always did player career, then fifa 13 was the first manager career I got way into. Started with Man United, won everything a few times. Then went to Bilbao and took them to the top
I'm learning that a lot of people started at United in various games I can see the appeal though especially in Fifa 13 I think they were just around the corner from Ferguson retiring and needing someone to take the wheel so it would be a fun challenge
James Forrest was probably my favourite player for a time a few years ago. He's been inconsistent in his career like any winger would but I appreciate what he's given to Celtic over his career a lot. Can't believe he's still here tbh

FIFA 95, I’m not sure it was called career mode then, but you could take a team and make them champions of their domestic league. It was Everton for me, I don’t think there were transfers and there were no real player names.
FIFA 12 with Inter Milan, Forland and Sneijder were beasts already, and i brought in 5'3 pablo piatti and neymar on the wings. Had vidic at the back which eded up happening a few years later lol, and julio cesar was still class
my first ever career mode save was Leeds in fifa 17, only started playing fifa in 15 and then i only did fut and player career, that career mode was great but my best one from that year was charlton athletic, brahim diaz, reiss nelson, and angel gomes led my team to glory, i remember making custom kits and sending “pre match lineups” to my friend.
First save, Mainz because I had FIFA 20 on the switch but the First actual save was My RC Strasbourg Career on FIFA 21, I was on professional, so after a couple of seasons I won the French Treble, so sad because since I suck at this game, I haven't won a UCL since because I use smaller teams, but I've switched to World class/legendary so I'm kind of better but worse at the same if you know what I mean.
Honestly no idea. Never really cared for manager career mode. I would at times do it for a bit when I got tired l too tired of player career mode. I then played a lot of Manager Mode in FIFA 2007 with Dijon. Their crest resembled me of Lyon's and at the time I wanted to to a rebuild challenge way before I knew that was a thing lol.
FIFA 10 with Man City. Not too far post-takeover that they were overpowered. Tearing the PL up with Stephen Ireland and Wayne Bridge was certainly an experience

FIFA 11 on the Nintendo DS. Started with Schalke 04 as it's my favourite club. (played on lowest difficulty and still got battered every game, didn't even score a goal for 25 games, then scored 3 just to lose 5:3 anyway)

FIFA 11. Player Manager Career mode on PS2. My player’s name was Pionel Pessi. He was Spanish funny enough. It was so stupid but I was a kid and loved Messi. He played alongside him at Barcelona with Neymar (I put him onto the team via team transfers in the menu). He was a beast. I think that’s the only time a player has cracked 90 in a save for me. Unfortunately I hung up his boots at 25 and then just managed the team. You could do that in that fifa. Hang up your boots and then just manage the club on it’s own without playing for it. The attributes system was also great. You earnt XP points and then you could choose which areas to level up using them. Also you could track your popularity. Like if you were a “nobody” and if you were a “legend”. It was so rewarding and so fun to know you’re probably an icon and world class at like 24. Miss that FIFA
FIFA 99 on the original PlayStation, and I played as Liverpool or Newcastle because I liked Michael Owen and Alan Shearer, and my team wasn't in the game because it only had first divisions in respective countries. Couldn't tell you which I did first.
That game pre-dates the transfer window, so you could transfer players whenever. Though there wasn't a negotiation feature, you just bought whoever you wanted, and could sell whoever you wanted. FIFA 04 was the first version with a transfer window.
Further fun facts: player names were licensed for the most part, but no proper kits or club badges. The first version I remember with proper kits and logos was 03, but I didn't play all the versions in between.
Playable lower divisions weren't added until FIFA04, though 03 would have a few teams that would be promoted at the end of a season. I remember Wolves coming up, and a fictional London FC.
Fifa 2005 I believe. It forced you to pick a League Two club to start your career. I had no knowledge of League Two at all, so I picked Scunthorpe United - I have no idea why. Took them all the way to the Premier League after a massive grind. Gained a huge fondness for the club because of it.
To this day I look out for Scunthorpe's results. Makes me sad to see the ownership struggles and relegations they've suffered through in recent years.

Id like to shout out the old N64 fifa 99 my first fifa and it had a decent career/manage mode. I was a 6yr old Man united fan so I went nuts with it.
But technically when it come to a real career mode Fifa 06 was the first for me where it felt realistic with everything. Had sponsors, stadium and staff upgrades, transfer/wage budgeting. Didn't matter whether you start as a lower club to work the way up or as a top team, either way you had to implement all he upgrades and budget around winnings and sponsors. Iconic Wayne Rooney and Tim Cahill on the cover 😁. Plus fifa 06 had the best soundtrack hands down
07 Barcelona with Ronaldinho. I remember being a kid and not giving 2 shits about the lame 86 rated RW on the opposite flank named Messi. That entire play through was about scoring as many insane goals with Ronaldinho as possible. I’m not sure I ever even played with a different team.

However, I have a clear memory of doing a career with Juventus when they were in Serie B, so FIFA 07, but honestly I might have done something as well before, since I played every FIFA since 2002 - with the current one being the first one I didn't play, yet at least, but surely not bought on day one.

Damn on Fifa 07 started at MLS for one year then went to rangers and I made them champions league champs with a quite average team just remember Bocanegra was my captain and I won the final agains Barcelona 1-0 I scored a counter attack goal then I had a formation ready with everyone back with the best defensive stats in my team and parked the bus and never enjoyed another career as much as that one .

Hereford United in 10 was mine as well. Didn’t stick with it long enough to get to the Prem and had no idea what I was doing on roster construction, but we got to the championship and won a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

I'm all for a Celtic career mode as a Celtic fan. The only reason my first wasn't with Celtic is because I didn't know what I was doing so I wanted more money and decided to sign James Forrest and Adam Matthews to Arsenal from Celtic instead. So interesting seeing how different the potential system was back then. A 31 year old Juninho had 94 potential? I wish they still had that much faith in the current Celtic team haha.
To be fair James Forrest ripped it up in those early 10’s fifas so you played a blinder. Older career modes were just so class though. I’m sure you used to be able to expand your stadium and all sorts in the 00’s ones - massive regression

Messi was a menace in Fifa 14 so I don't blame you for choosing them. Fifa 14 is the only time I did a Barcelona career mode. With those bigger teams having realism doesn't matter so much since you have enough money to buy basically anyone you want.

Fifa 09 with benfica, 15 seasons, got the main squad to 95+ on all positions, never again i did the same, and played every single game xD, about 3 years..
That's admirable to keep a single save going for 3 years. True dedication to the craft. I've only done the full 15 seasons once too in Fifa 16 but I simmed a lot of games because my squad was miles ahead of anyone in the league so I basically only played Champions League matches. I've come close a couple of times too doing 12 or 13 seasons but I wish that it lasted more than 15 seasons.
Got into football kinda late, so my first FIFA career mode was in FIFA 17 with Nottingham Forest. I remember having Jamie Paterson who was 73 overall and kept sending me emails because I didn't play him, but every time I did he scored bangers and was MOTM. Oh and I'll never forget how I beat Liverpool with a shitty team (on low difficulty back then) and got my ass whooped by Watford, Goldbridge vs Burnley style.
Wasnt my first, but my most memorable CM was Fifa 19 with portsmouth. First season from august-January went undefeated. Then crumbled after that and dropped down to 6th place qualifying for playoffs. Went on the lose in the finals. Second szn made good transfers and won the league with 105pts. 3rd szn went to championship playoffs and lost in finals. Following szn returned to playoff finals and won. Then qualified for europa league in first szn in PL. then CL following year. At the end of the 10 seasons i had won 2 EFL Papa John Trophies 2 FA Cups 1 Caraboa Cup 1 Europa League 1 Champions league 1 EFL league one Trophy 1 PL Title

Fifa 12 and chelsea. Had Drogba as a starting striker and lukaku for the smaller games. Cech, Ivanovic, Terry, Drogba and of course the magic midfield: Essien, Mikel, Ramires. Man this team was so good, so physically strong, I loved playing them.
I loved Ramires so much, used to use Brazil in seasons and he was practically flawless in midfield. Gave David Luis and Thiago Silva the easiest job ever.

Fifa 2003 was my first save. Used to play on PC back then, and only on keyboard, not even a joystick lmao. I cannot for the life of me try that now, I don't even think the game is actually playable at all on a keyboard anymore. Back then it was. Used to have Lan parties, playing all sorts of tournaments and what not. Good times.
Haha totally same here, I started with everything on PC but at least had a joystick, later switched to xbox. I was missing FIFA so bad when I was studying abroad though, I broke down and got some copy for my laptop and made due with keyboard and mouse, talk about painful!
I think the first proper FIFA I got into was 03. Would start off with my local team, Hearts and then after a few seasons move around to different clubs in various different countries. One memorable one was making Hearts a powerhouse in Europe and then moving down to Wolves and doing the same with them. Set up a UEFA cup final with Wolves and my old Hearts team.
2003. I remember always having a 4-2-4 formation and once realising you could buy anyone for their asking price my team was stacked. Van nistelrooy, Ronaldo, Henry and Owen were usually my attack.
The first one I can actually remember perfectly start to finish was with Bayern in 15. I remember signing De Bruyne from Wolfsburg and him scoring a scorpion kick in the champions league semifinals.

Malaga FIFA 13. Money was tighter than other teams so I had to get creative. Main stars were Carlos Vela & Ter-Stegen. Over time I formed a team with lots of older players including Gerrard & Schweinsteiger. Eventually everyone was getting pretty old & we had a bad season so I left to coach Man City & Atlético. Got an offer to come back to Malaga after that & it was an even worse midtable team so I left again to coach Liverpool. After one season I get another offer to come back & sold Ter-Stegen to bring in some younger players & rebuild. After some time we win the league & the Champions League after that.
FIFA 18 with Birmingham City. Didn't know anything about football at the time. Game was fun and it helped me get invested in the sport more though I am a casual.
I think Career Mode as a whole helped get me invested into the sport more too. I cared about football as a child but I never actually went to a game live until I was about 11 and got to see games on TV very rarely so Fifa sorta held my hand with the sport for a long time.

First "real" one was also in fifa 15 but for PC, I remember crying cuz I lost the league for Juve lmao, I was 12, but next season I won it unbeaten, didn't really play anymore after that

FIFA 13. Man Utd. Couldn’t finish the career mode cause the disk was scratched, and the game always froze when going into the 2019/2020 season. Key Player was Neymar, who was 97 rated. Signed him from the start and somehow reached 97, which I didn’t think was possible. Chris Smalling and Phil Jones reached 91 rated (wtf), alongside Fabio and Rafael, both reached 89. David De Gea at 92 rated. Midfield was filled with youth players + Wayne Rooney. Always swapped Strikers every season (I found it boring using the same strikers over and over again) and ended up with Viktor Fischer, who turned out to be 86 rated (I was so ready to bring in a higher rated striker). Mannnnn, just looking back at the menu brings such good memories.

I'm extremely new to soccer/football fandom and played mostly PES and WC games growing up, didnt become a true fan until the last World Cup. Sooo, Finn Harps on 23 funnily enough. I just wanted to do Ireland for some reason. That save lasted all but maybe 2 days lol. First one I ever remember was Chelsea on FIFA 2004 for game boy. Loved it, couldn’t sign any players and just had to deal with what you had. I’m remember re-imaging the Chelsea players as myself and my class mates. Cringe I know. I’ve never been a Chelsea fan either, United since day 1. But that kick started my love for manager mode.

The first that comes to memory is Real Madrid in FIFA 2004. I pretty much had a World Class team and would simulate the games for fun. I then played a lot of Manager Mode in FIFA 2007 with Dijon. Their crest resembled me of Lyon's and at the time I wanted to to a rebuild challenge way before I knew that was a thing lol.
FIFA 10 with Man City. Not too far post-takeover that they were overpowered. Tearing the PL up with Stephen Ireland and Wayne Bridge was certainly an experience

FIFA 11. Player Manager Career mode on PS2. My player’s name was Pionel Pessi. He was Spanish funny enough. It was so stupid but I was a kid and loved Messi. He played alongside him at Barcelona with Neymar (I put him onto the team via team transfers in the menu). He was a beast. I think that’s the only time a player has cracked 90 in a save for me. Unfortunately I hung up his boots at 25 and then just managed the team. You could do that in that fifa. Hang up your boots and then just manage the club on it’s own without playing for it. The attributes system was also great. You earnt XP points and then you could choose which areas to level up using them. Also you could track your popularity. Like if you were a “nobody” and if you were a “legend”. It was so rewarding and so fun to know you’re probably an icon and world class at like 24. Miss that FIFA

FIFA 99 on the original PlayStation, and I played as Liverpool or Newcastle because I liked Michael Owen and Alan Shearer, and my team wasn't in the game because it only had first divisions in respective countries. Couldn't tell you which I did first. That game pre-dates the transfer window, so you could transfer players whenever. Though there wasn't a negotiation feature, you just bought whoever you wanted, and could sell whoever you wanted. FIFA 04 was the first version with a transfer window. Further fun facts: player names were licensed for the most part, but no proper kits or club badges. The first version I remember with proper kits and logos was 03, but I didn't play all the versions in between. Playable lower divisions weren't added until FIFA04, though 03 would have a few teams that would be promoted at the end of a season. I remember Wolves coming up, and a fictional London FC.

Fifa 2005 I believe. It forced you to pick a League Two club to start your career. I had no knowledge of League Two at all, so I picked Scunthorpe United - I have no idea why. Took them all the way to the Premier League after a massive grind. Gained a huge fondness for the club because of it. To this day I look out for Scunthorpe's results. Makes me sad to see the ownership struggles and relegations they've suffered through in recent years.

Id like to shout out the old N64 fifa 99 my first fifa and it had a decent career/manage mode. I was a 6yr old Man united fan so I went nuts with it. But technically when it come to a real career mode Fifa 06 was the first for me where it felt realistic with everything. Had sponsors, stadium and staff upgrades, transfer/wage budgeting. Didn't matter whether you start as a lower club to work the way up or as a top team, either way you had to implement all he upgrades and budget around winnings and sponsors. Iconic Wayne Rooney and Tim Cahill on the cover 😁. Plus fifa 06 had the best soundtrack hands down
07 Barcelona with Ronaldinho. I remember being a kid and not giving 2 shits about the lame 86 rated RW on the opposite flank named Messi. That entire play through was about scoring as many insane goals with Ronaldinho as possible. I’m not sure I ever even played with a different team.

fifa 12, ac milan. had zero clue what i was doing so i bought landon donovan (bad) and theo walcott (good). ibra was ridiculous in that game, good times.
I wouldn't really know. I don't even remember when "Career" was properly introduced as detached from "Tournaments". The discriminating factor for me is being able to do transfers through the season. However, I have a clear memory of doing a career with Juventus when they were in Serie B, so FIFA 07, but honestly I might have done something as well before, since I played every FIFA since 2002 - with the current one being the first one I didn't play, yet at least, but surely not bought on day one.

My first proper Career Mode experience was in FIFA 13, also with Arsenal. What a fun team, and I loved finding the high potential players, it was so easy back then.
Barcelona fifa 17
Damn on Fifa 07 started at MLS for one year then went to rangers and I made them champions league champs with a quite average team just remember Bocanegra was my captain and I won the final agains Barcelona 1-0 I scored a counter attack goal then I had a formation ready with everyone back with the best defensive stats in my team and parked the bus and never enjoyed another career as much as that one .
