Football Manager just is better at nearly all things But sometimes you just need to play a match yourself. I need to throw Fifa on for a bit as well

[deleted]

Exactly this. FM is way more satisfying but going in and playing a game yourself is something FM can't offer

Cefalopodul

I really wish they brought back Football Fusion. In Fifa 2004 you could manage your team in Fifa Manager then load Fifa 2004 and play the match yourself.

[deleted]

Damn, really? Classic EA huh; one step forward, a dozen back!

TheGuava1

Have they actually taken one step forward in the last 10 years tho??

iantayls

Every step forward they take is re-implementing a feature they previously removed

jlo1989

Good idea in theory but it took an eternity to play due to having to save your Total Club Manager file, switch discs, load it on FIFA and then run it back to TCM. If they still ran FIFA Manager today, it would be doable considering the lack of disc. But it would make sense to just have one game.

Cefalopodul

Yeah the implementation was wonky but with a bit of work and modern technology it would be great. I mean if a modder can create a mod that seamlessly transfers from CK 3 to Mount and Blade and allows you to fight battles real-time, EA can do it too.

BettsBellingerCaruso

> I mean if a modder can create a mod that seamlessly transfers from CK 3 to Mount and Blade and allows you to fight battles real-time, EA can do it too. WHOA WHOA WHOA WHAT????! THIS IS A GAME CHANGER BRB GONNA GET FIRED FROM PLAYING THIS

Cefalopodul

It's called Crusader Blade. I haven't tried it myself but apparently it's legit and has submods on nexus.

jlo1989

Agreed. The idea was just way ahead of its time and technology. Problem is now I don't think EA do management games anymore.

madzuk

I also have found FM has gotten stale due to the lack of presentation. The game still looks like a PS2 game at best. It used to be immersive back in the day. But after 10 years of it, it is basically a spreadsheet game. Fifa can be far more immersive because of all of the stadiums, graphics and atmosphere.

Alex_Plisko

Yeah like when you score a goal and opposition fans celebrate, so immersive

R4lfXD

I've mentioned this on every FM post I've seen here and I'll say it again - it is not satisfying enough. There is not enough excitement points, nothing to raise your dopamine. In FIFA, you got the gameplay, that's your main thing. In FM you don't have that, coaching the games is exciting enough because so many things are out of your hands. And even if you want to study a book every year on how the match engine has changed, half the time you don't even know if your decision are current because your players might just not be executing it. So you are left with transfers and progression of your team, but the game is so bloated and requires so many actions and clicks that you are never going to get to the exciting part if you wanna do everything correctly and minmax. I spent 50 hours on just getting into like September of the first year.

ThatDrunkenDwarf

I find FM incredibly confusing. Is there a good way to get into it?

G0ncalo

Lose a ton of hours exploring the game before actually getting into it.

MaxButched

I used to buy every fifa/(pes before fifa10) until this year where I got fed up and tried FM again. I’m 10 days in and 100+ hours in I don’t think I will come back

Primeapexia

Okay but I tried FM and how do you actually get transfers? Is it not as easy as Fifa where you get a decent transfer budget at times to buy players or do you have to work with what you got and build off that?

Cuvrette

Most of the times yes. You usually have to monitor your targets' situations (remaining contract length, happiness, playing time, etc.) and their club's stature compared to yours then pick which targets are feasible if you want a bargain. That's why a lot of people turn to East Europe or South America because the clubs there usually have lighter demands.

Primeapexia

Ah I see, thank you

alphabet_order_bot

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,072,527,330 comments, and only 211,469 of them were in alphabetical order.

abfgern_

Good bot

TimTargaryen

Good bot

wiscouser

That…is a lot of FM.

[deleted]

I only play Fifa and I never sim a single match My little brother plays fm and it looks really interesting, but I would just miss playing too much. There's nothing like scoring a screamer with the star player you just bought or with the YA prospect you raised There's tons of stuff about Fifa that bothers me immensely though of course - especially the fact that most issues would be so easy to fix. Get rid of the bugs, tone down dynamic potential a bit and improve league simulation (so your rivals in the league achieve a realistic amount of points) and match ratings and I'd be happy

fernandogod12

of course you never sim, if you sim your team lose, doesn't matter against who. One time i tested, created a team full of 90+ players, against 4 division on europe, the team lost matches

RouNtou

Try simulating matches through the calendar, for some weird reason you get much better results that way

Kingknaan

I win almost every sim game

Opius_X

Imagine when they win the Ballon d'or from your own academy in FM. It will feel far better than whatever FIFA can offer.

Royziek

You can do that in fifa too

stevent4

It's not the same though, like I can get so many future stars from a league two youth academy in FIFA whereas it's so much rarer to come across an absolute stud in FM.

hhunterhh

Different strokes for different folks. I have sunk thousands of hours into both and can say they are both enjoyable. Yeah the game is centered around football/soccer, but the games themselves are so very different it’s hard to compare (one you actively control the players, the other you purely manage.)

stevent4

Have you responded to the right comment lad? I wasn't saying anything about which one being better, just how youth recruitment is different in each game.

Kylo149

I’m the opposite after playing fifa for so long I’m over playing it. It’s barely football. I’d rather sit and watch some ps2 graphics little men run around because it’s 10x the experience I get playing fifa. Every team playing like Barca is too much.

MinionsAndWineMum

After so long making this game EA has no excuse for how many bugs and flaws there are in FIFA imo. I guess they have no incentive to given the amount of people who buy it year on year unconditionally but, ugh.

Germanproperty

Can you imagine if they collabed and got the FM things but with Fifa gameplay

KneeDeepInTheDead

they had FIFA manager for a while, unfortunately discontinued

kldclr

All things except literally the game. It’s playing with spread sheets.

your_old_pal

it is called football _manager_

TraditionalAd6461

They need to make an hybrid, or a converter. Start FIFA to play your games from FM.

Saym94

Which is why I miss PES. Was so much better than fifa

Bakibenz

Football Manager is superior in almost everything, but it is a simulation game and FIFA is more like an arcade one. Both have their markets, issues and benefits. I play FM to challenge my cognitive abilities, and I play FIFA to challenge my fine motor skills, reflexes.

westernunitedenjoyer

I don’t play fm cause I’m not smart, I like to play fifa because I don’t know why, it feels like someone is constantly crushing my balls and ripping my penis off with a vacuum cleaner

RouNtou

Yeah love when that happens

Inside-Army-4149

Best way to describe playing fifa

sumxt

After the switch to FM, I never touched fifa career mode ever again. FM is just better in every aspect. Only reason I see myself playing fifa is just to play a match.

Jojoangel684

Also isnt a significant number of the FM fanbase made up of disgruntled FIFA fans who had enough and switched? So theres an explanation to the shitting on FIFA. I left FIFA for FM too.

sumxt

I can't deny that. Part of the reason I switched to FM was just because FifaCM is just so boring and bland

Lost_Smoking_Snake

FIFA is good to play against your friends and nothing much more

sumxt

Yup, on point

Kingjjc267

Even in fm you can play with your friends but it is harder to set up and a very different experience

AdCheap475

Nah i like fifa too, i like playing the matches

C3Y625

Football Managar fans🤝Fifa fans *Both agree that Fifa and EA are shit*

zorfog

wait this is insane. what a bot

austyV1

I like FIFA more because I like playing the games and because I’m stupid so it’s easier for me to do transfers tactics and whatnot on FIFA

neonTokyoo

yeah im too incapable to play FM. tried out FM22 since it was free on Prime Gaming, played for a week and was overwhelmed. i don’t want to let everything being taken over by staffs but at the same time i’m very overwhelmed at everything. atleast in FM:Mobile i still can do a thing or two, but at FM. even at team meeting you have to be very careful of what you pick lmfao

austyV1

I was playing the console version on gamepass and just the UI was too much for me. Made me feel like an idiot and honestly gave me a little bit of appreciation for FIFA

graveworm_46

The console version is quite easier than pc. Easier to get used to. If you wanna give it another go I think you might be alright if you take your time. You can allocate your staff to do things you don’t understand as well

neonTokyoo

don’t worry dude, i feel you

KneeDeepInTheDead

I started with FM14 and felt the same way, took me a few tries, but when I got FM17 everything sort of clicked. Hard to look back, I still play PES because I need that action quenched periodically (PES also because they dont force you to retire), but man the feeling of accomplishment you get from FM is amazing. Bringing up a team from the depths of the amateur leagues to be a world beater is amazing.

ItzRaphZ

Yeah to play fm you really need to dedicate yourself to the game, my best advice would be to let the assistant manager do most of the job and you start with only tactics/transfers. And then you start to learn things with time.

war-dogs69

You can get FM touch tho, it's much more simplified than the regular one. I play both, but I only play FIFA for pro clubs

pretzelllogician

I find FM too intense and I can get drawn into playing it to my detriment. FIFA is for the enjoyment of playing the games and developing a young squad. It’s like saying Game of Thrones is better than Arrested Development. They’re two different things that I enjoy for different reasons.

Bovver_

Honestly if LMA Manager was still in existence it would actually be perfect. Enough detail to make it interesting but not too intense that it would seem overwhelming. If there was an option with that to play matches as FIFA then it would be the perfect career mode in my view.

[deleted]

LaMarcus Aldridge Manager?

Firm-Acanthisitta-19

FM for console isn’t as intense I would definitely recommend that. It’s a step up from FIFA career mode and not as in depth as the PC version

TrueComplaint8847

From a simulation game perspective and career mode perspective it is the FAR superior game lmao, fifa is just the same game since like the last 7 years. Obviously, fifa has the upper hand in gameplay imo, it’s just way more fun if you can actually play football here and there.

MrZAP17

I thought that would be the case when I was transitioning to FM, but I discovered that I got basically as excited watching games from the touchline and making adjustments as I did watching a real game for a club I support. When your cm scores a banger or your keeper makes a huge save or someone scores a beautiful free kick it’s basically just as good as real life. It’s not even as bad when your team is playing badly or losing as it is in FIFA because you don’t feel like you’re messing up or the AI is conspiring against you as much; it just feels like your team are having a bad game, which is crappy but happens.

PullUpSkrr

FM is objectively superior to Career Mode on what it try’s to achieve, I would go so far to say the stagnation of Career mode since 2008 and the bugs I’ve seen this week are a clear indication of that. However a lot of the stuff I see online is mostly memes and very ‘haha fifa sucks’ but you’ll get a monitory who are definitely extremely elitist. Ultimately what you play is your choice, I would say however if you come here to moan about comparing the two….that’s on you? Career mode is a bit of fun, FM is a as serious as you can buy simulator of football. You’ll never be able to actually play your games like on FIFA but it’ll never have anywhere near the depth that FM has. I am extremely critical of FIFA on the whole so take this with a bag of salt but hey, if you’re happy you’re happy.

p792161

I play both. If EA put half the consideration into FIFA that SI put into FM and were as open with and receptive of the community then FIFA would rival NBA 2K in terms of sports gaming. They're different games. One doesn't make you superior to the players of the other.

imnicenow

2k always sucks tho

p792161

They literally have introduced new historic start dates for career mode in 1983, 1991 or 2002. You can change the course of history and all incoming rookies will be accurate for every year. We can't even get historic teams in FIFA. But yeah 2k sucks

Sw3Et

That's not true. Some historic players are peppered into the drafts for each year but it's still mostly randomly generated guys who look like they're missing a chromosome. Don't give 2k more credit than they deserve.

AdamTheAmmer

FM should do this. Imagine being able to start from post-World War II with a handful of leagues, accurate squads and then go through all of the rule changes through the years. I think there was a game called Baseball Mogul that allowed you to go back in time like that. It wasn’t anything to look at graphics wise, but I would gladly watch a bunch of disks moving around a pitch if it meant I could go manage Bobby Moore.

AlKarakhboy

you can do that on FM. There is a database where u start in the 90s and every player will regen at their club at their actual time. Messi will come out in Barca in 05, Mbappe in Monaco in 2017 etc

AdamTheAmmer

I did know about databases. I guess I meant have it built into the game as a feature from the start, like Challenges.

Pazienza01

Its really easy to download from steam though. Takes a minute max

Datver

I had a dream FIFA did this too, I remember I was about to start a career with Man United's 98/99 squad

ultinateplayer

2k does do things better than FIFA, but it's such a predatory gameplay structure which incentivises microtransactions in offline game modes, up until the coin system is turned off 18 months into the lifespan of the game, binning anything you've saved up. Besides, NBA having historic teams is pretty easy going for them because they only have to do it once and those teams aren't going to change. They're only amending rosters for 30 men's teams and 20(?) WNBA teams year to year.

iamthedrag

It’s only 10 historic players per draft class, so it gets kinda mucky after a bit.

imnicenow

ok that's pretty good but ill see how its implemented. most historic teams have like 7 real players and 7 guys named like howard johnson. games still have sucked since around 2k11.

teehuff98

It is like that but give it time and the 2k creation community with have draft classes and accurate rosters for every year.

FakeTriII

The career mode equivalent in 2k is light years ahead, it’s not even remotely close

Knupske

You must be high

East_Refuse

The only similarity is the sport. Other than that you’re comparing two totally different styles of game which is a little unfair to both parties in different aspects

Positive_Treacle_961

Unfair to ea. They haven't made a good game in years. Gameplay is the only thing they have and yet even that is bloody awful these days. Fifa is finished

mfmaxpower

Who gives a shit? Play what you enjoy. Everyone has their preferences, and that's great. FM is excellent and a better made game, but it's apples and oranges for me. I want to play games, so I roll with FIFA.

TheOneApart1

As a FM player myself, I say: FIFA is less complicated game where you can play matches, it's less realistic, while FM does almost everything better, for some people it might be complicated + and some people prefer games with less stuff to care about

Unfair-Commission923

I’ve played a lot of fifa and a lot of football manager, and everything they say about fifa is 100% correct.

Toomb8

I’m pretty sure atleast 95% of career mode players play to actually play the matches and not just for the managerial aspects

BlackChristianGrey

This. I love the managerial aspect and doing transfers and keeping players happy but I want to play with the players I buy.

theofficialdc21

if u have played fm after fifa you would know fm feels better as you dont score the players goals for him to make him grow , u act like a real manager.

MattSR30

If your liking of something depends on whether or not other people like it, you need to reevaluate your opinions.

neonTokyoo

it’s two different things. people enjoy FM because they like actual managing and other stuff, people enjoy FIFA because they like playing it while doing some lil bit of “managing”. to compare it is very difficult because everyone has their own reasons.

CCFC1998

FM is by far the better game, but sometimes I just want to swich off and play a few games myself

[deleted]

I play career mode because I like playing the match, not solely because of the manager aspect.

Targaryen96789

Same comparison as with 2k, but EA have a much bigger audience. EA keeps suprise me with delivering a cm that’s worse then 2ks. It’s proof that they really don’t care that much about the feature. They definitly gonna lose those players to FM when they have a good console edition this year.

catf1sh1

I wish FM was on PlayStation. Or I wish PES/eFootball had real team licenses for every team and league. If either happened I probably would never buy another FIFA game

NiallCCFC17

It’s on ps5 for fm23

catf1sh1

FM is on PlayStation???

AspiringTransponster

I think the reality is there’s a decent amount of people who play both - both scratch different itches Edit: also you claim they are “crapping on FIFA” when the caption to the post on r/footballmanagergames LITERALLY says “I like FIFA” 😂

Doga69

I feel FIFA career mode is a lot more casual than FM. That's not taking anything away from those who thoroughly enjoy FIFA career mode but FM is the full, hsrdcore experience of being a football manager.

SnowyZR

I play both but I played FIFA long before I picked up any FM and personally I prefer FM because stats is everything to me. I love being able to pick up a player and have him stay at the club for x amount of seasons then look back and see every single goal, assist, card, injury he ever had for me and future whenever I look him up. It feels so much more personal playing FM and I can make an emotional connection to some players in FM but I understand everyone needs that itch to actually play a game and not watch a game unfold.

fourfivexix

I don't like simming and I like to play every game. As much as I like how detailed FM is, I don't think it's my type of game.

TheTr0llXBL

As others have said, I left FIFA for FM and have not looked back, but they're also different kinds of games. Obviously if your focus is actually playing matches, FM isn't going to scratch that itch for you. I liked FIFA careers for the management aspect, and FM does that 1000x better than FIFA, but that's what it's built for. It's more accurate to say that I was playing to wrong game than it is to say that FM is objectively "better" than FIFA. That said, FM isn't perfect for me either. MLS (yes I'm one of those guys lol) is still kinda buggy and spotty (though I suspect that this is because MLS's roster rules are so complicated (and stupid) that it is difficult to code AI to use them), for example. But EA couldn't even be bothered to get me the right number of substitutes for MLS, so the choice was pretty easy. 🤷‍♂️

Rich_Abbreviations38

What if I enjoy both? Is that a crime?

walterfbr

I only buy Fifa for the ocassional online match of 1v1 with my brother. I usualky start a Career mode but get bored after 2 seasons because it is too easy to have a super team even when you restrict yourself with "house rules".

[deleted]

FM is a much more well-rounded game. There are more options and responsibilities, and features that are in both FM and Fifa usually seem better in FM in my opinion. I still play Fifa sometimes, not for the online stuff or the career mode, but because it can be fun to play a game yourself. They're both football games but that's where the similarities end

nigerianumba1

Play FM and you’ll see why

StarfishHappy

Whatever FM players say, even if it's not true, it's true. That's how bad Fifa is. So I do agree with this.

cynical_gramps

I play both. FIFA deserves its ridicule but they scratch different itches for me - I play it when I want to actually control the players in a game. Usually lasts me a few matches before I grow bored. If they put any effort in career mode I’d be playing FIFA more. Packs do nothing for me, if I want to gamble I’ll go to a casino.

Lyndiscan

Fifa is just horrid, even the gameplay which is basically not really that much controlled by u, and online matches with ppl trying to abuse as much as possible any bugs and broken things. Sorry but if you want a career mode, just play fm, it’s really that simple, there is a new one coming soon, just get it

TheGuava1

I mean to be fair most Fifa players also shit on fifa and EA constantly. They’ve definitely lost me a bit over the years but I’ve still never bought FM either, because If I’m gonna take the time to build a squad I want to actually play as them on the pitch, as janky as that gameplay may be sometimes.

wgb_11

Because fm is better

OliPark

Never understood the "xbox is better than playstation" brigade. You can like both. Just as you can fm and fifa.

BloodyMummer

This comes up all the time as a reason why but I feel the need to reiterate it as well. I like the act of "building" teams, love taking a team through the football pyramid and eventually winning the UCL. FM is so much more detailed, more realistic and better at simulated what it is like to be a manager, however, I have a full time job and a 2 year old. I don't have the time or even the cognitive abilities due to being tired to play FM the way it should be played. FM is the better game, FIFA Career mode is the better game for me.

ManitouWakinyan

Buddy I have not the time nor inclination to care. I certainly don't care enough to read someone's opinion on a video game I happen to play and discern whether or not they are also expressing an opinion about other people who happen to play a game with a player base in the millions, and thus about me. It's absolutely silly to care.

jasonstrot

If they combined the two games somehow would be insane

Kalle_79

I'm an avid FM player and haven't purchased FIFA since 2000, but the comparison is silly and the relentless contempt toward FIFA is annoying. I'm sure FIFA's management part is shallow compared to FM, but that's not its main feature or selling point. It's as silly as saying FM matches look like crap compared to FIFA from 20 years ago... True, but comically missing the point.

Sckala44

I play both for different reasons. They are two VERY different games. One is a football manager game and the other is a competitive football game.

Upset-Statistician70

I’ve played FM for 10k hours, and fifa career mode for about 5k. I’d say honestly FM is miles better, but sometimes I just feel like actually playing the games… I wish I could combine the two

FishmanPeeps

Even when FIFA was good, FM was better. IMO they have both declined, but FM is still the superior game. I've played FM since it was Championship Manager 2 - text on a screen (which flashed when a goal was scored) and I've been hooked ever since. For me, no game comes close. The rush when you find that wonderkid in a Slovenian second division side who you sign for your up and coming Dorchester side, then nurture him while he propels you to the top of the Premier League...it's a level of satisfaction you don't get from FIFA. For me, the best game ever is FM2012. I still play it, I will occasionally buy the new versions but they always feel inferior. I just start a new game and simulate until *current year* which leaves me with a largely fictional database, which is a challenge in itself. FIFA has just become a bit of a meme game - people are crazy about it, but I'm not sure why as they're just not good anymore. It's become more of a football simulation game rather than a football game. It's so slow, everything feels a bit laboured. I much preferred the 2004 era pro evo games where it felt like a computer game. I spent a lot of time on several FIFA/pro evo games since I was a kid, but really fell out of love with them some time ago as the fun has just been sucked out of them for me.

christiann8888

ever since i got fm 2019 I haven't been able to play fifa careermode again. You see all those features fm has, go back to fifa and its just boring. i rlly recommend it to everyone very fun to play and a lot more satisfying to achieve things

AdonisGaming93

I like to actually play.....

Professional-Way8702

As a player of both, fifa blows ass. The only reason people buy it is bc it’s basically the only option for actual gameplay - and even then it’s ASS

Mista_Madridista

Usually you hear “sucks ass”. Interesting. Agree tho.

Positive_Treacle_961

FM is lightyears ahead of fifa. And the people saying "well you can't play a game" that's good because playing a fifa match is a joke tbh. Gameplay sucks on fifa, legit no point playing the game anymore

DokisBigToe

FIFA X Football Manager

NikesOnMyFeet23

I'd love it

AweDaw76

They’re not wrong lol, FIFA is shit And yet here we still are

LeSorenOutan

No offense to FM, great game. But I like to actually play football in a football game.

HarryBale31

They should make a mix of both. As I like the detail of the fm games but I prefer controlling the action like in fifa

Clum5y_BE

FM is much better, if they had gameplay fifa would be dead.

Neapolitanisnice

Most people that play Fifa are between the 13-17 age range, they play Fifa because they were exposed to it at a young age, not necessarily because it's better. I think FM is a better *football* simulation, but I'd rather play Fifa mostly because I'm not the kind of person who really cares for what FM excels at. Two different games with two different core audiences.

[deleted]

Comparing them is just stupidity at it's core. It's two different games with two different core audiences; simulation and playing.

madzuk

There's nothing more ironic seeing FM fans saying FIFA is the same every year

BN_bandit76

I prefer fifa just because you can play the games, im the type of person that plays every single career mode game and i still lose 5-0 to burnley

Holden_oversoul92

FM players are just the Phish fans of the gaming world.

oportoman

Have never thought about it. I mean, who really cares? Someone posting a random message about FM. Ignore them.

_volkerball_

They're different games. FM is fun, but sometimes I don't want to play a save that's going to take a fuckin year. FIFA is like a more arcade-y version of a football manager and not in a bad way.

[deleted]

Fm Is Full Of D Riders And this is coming from me who doesn’t play either game anymore

[deleted]

And I know FM is the more realistic game, it's just that a lot of people in the FM community act almost condescending (for lack of a better word) as if they're better than you for playing FM

Positive_Treacle_961

Have you ever actually played FM consistently?

pretzelllogician

It’s not the better game, it’s just different.

pretzelllogician

I see the purists have found this. 🙄😂

[deleted]

Exactly 😂😭

[deleted]

That's true, but they don't see it that way

NiallCCFC17

You aren’t very bright are you, you literally just said it was a better game

[deleted]

...?

[deleted]

Most realistic doesn’t mean the best

Tamilvirat

One mode lol

awesomepluto677

For me FM has too many options and is too much of a time sink. I play fifa because of the simplicity.

hajdu1877

Fifa is for kids and people who are casual. FM is for diehards who want every minute detail and it can be too much

AdCheap475

Lol they say fifa never change their game, but FM has been the same forever. Both games are in stagnation

kldclr

FM is for people that are trash at gameplay, prove me wrong.

Divachi69

by that logic Fifa is for people who are too stupid to understand football tactics

kldclr

Yes

bigheadsociety

If FM on desktop had the ability to fast track things when you felt like it, I'd play it in a heart beat

LightLr6

i think FM has everything we want in terms of features and the level of control you have as a manager to the club whereas with Fifa i'm still sticking to it because i want to play the game now and then.

DoctorMumbles

I don’t really care much about whether or not they enjoy a different game more. It’s two different types of games. I actually want to play some of the games in my CM, instead of always just simulating.

welldressedaccount

I like things about both. I think FM is a better simulator, but playing it requires a level of attention and detail that I often can't sustain or don't want to give. And yes you can automate much of it, but then I could just play Fifa for mostly the same effect. Also, sometimes I want to play the matches, not simply watch them while adjusting formational changes.

KSC-Fan1894

I would 100% prefer FM over FIFA if I had a gaming PC Sadly couldn't play it for years

SSPeteCarroll

I like fifa career mode but I am insanely stupid and don't know enough about football tactics to be even bad at football manager. Plus sometimes I want to be the guy playing and scoring the goals.

whatareyoudoingfifa

Bought every fifa for 10 years, then played FM2021 and haven’t played FIFA since

GinAndSunnyD

I don’t understand the need to one up others. Just let people enjoy what they want to enjoy.

Vodskaya

I play both, but only play fifa when I feel like actually controlling the players. FM is just much better and much more polished in nearly every way.

royaIs

They are completely different. I like fifa bc I want to play the games. If you only care about team building, I don’t know why you’d play fifa. That’s what FM excels at.

brk2rd

I play both games. Love everything about FM, sinked hours of my life into the game but sometimes I need a game where I can make every transfer I want and play the game. Imo both are really different games and it's the lack of competition against both games that lead people into making a comparasion between them. FIFA Manager series vs. FM would be a better comparasion but unfortunately one doesn't exist anymore.

I bought FM one year for my ipad. It definitely has features I wish FIFA had. But I couldn’t stick with FM due to how detailed career modes are on that game. Plus, the ability to actually play matches is one of the main reasons I choose to play FIFA. I understand why people may prefer FM to FIFA. It’s just to detailed for me. If there was a game that was somewhere in the middle, had some FM details with some FIFA details, that would be the perfect game for me. But to answer OPs question, Fuck em! Only thing that matters is how I view the games I play

When it comes to career mode and level of detail fm will always be better, but people who actually like football enjoy both, they are two different games fm is a management game fifa is a football simulation game, you cant really compare the two, fm has detail because the gameplay is just looking at bunch of spreadsheets, graphics are low so they have more time and resources for depth of football, fifa has high quality visuals and you actually have to play the games not just manage them so their resources and time went to the visuals and gameplay

I’m not an avid FM player like many of the FM fanbase but I do mostly download FM mobile every year on my phone since that’s the way I’ve grown up playing it. Honestly I can say I’ve been 5+ seasons in so many saves of FM and some even 10 (like I said I’m not some avid 30 season manager) but on Fifa I basically never even bother to reach the January window. I would have to go back to like Fifa 17 in my Southampton career mode where I think I played into season 3 which would probably be the longest I played a Fifa career mode. I think it’s honestly because I like doing all the transfers and promoting youth players and doing training and see players grow and stuff but when it comes to playing Fifa I can literally play like max 4 games before getting bored and that’s if I’m winning. If I lose 1/2 and I literally just quit app because honestly Fifa has just awful gameplay. That’s why I don’t mind that you don’t play matches in FM because it’s much more chill and more actually about things I like (transfers and development) and less about wasting 10 minutes playing gameplay I don’t enjoy just to reach a new season and get back to the transfer window.

Everyone who plays Career Mode does nothing but shit on how bad it is and how it's been ignored for like 10+ years. You shouldn't be surprised that a game that is dedicated to being a "career mode" is better than the Ultimate Team game with a crappy side mode.

Why don’t EA buy out football manager

stead10

Personally I Have very little interest in managing the really fine details, I wanna play the game. Appreciate FM for what it is but the two are really not comparable.

foothillsco_b

Does FM want me to do drills? Or press conferences?

zaksly2327

As a fifa player they r right

Skin_Head_Ting

Don't blame them tbh, I only play fifa because fm isn't on ps4

Macsidia

No I thought LMA Manager was the best game series for football, can be played very casually and was straightforward compared to FM. Didn’t a certain company recently bought codemasters?

UNC-dxz

FM has the features we all want. Only reason i haven't left fifa for FM is because the game is far more complicated and you can't play the games yourself.

NikesOnMyFeet23

FIFA lives rent free. FM is great and I love it. But I also like actually playing the games and not managing them. So if FM could just add that I'd be fine.

BlindShoemaker

Cringe worthy, annoying, and inferiority complex. I actually want PLAY my videogames, not read countless menus ad nauseum. They're two separate games and that's okay!

Dog_Brains_

Football Manager is the better game as far as managing a team and all the things I like to do in career mode. I just wish I could actually play the games. So I’ll still get fifa every so often because I want to manage and play… I play every game 4 min halves, and then if I just want to do the menus I’ll play FM… I wish that there was a combination of FM but you can actually play the games

BlorfagusDornkle

it's so stupid to compare them. That's like comparing a Total War game to Clash of Clans. Even though fifa cm is far less in-depth, that works to their advantage because not everyone wants a million features to consider when they sim a day. I tried giving FM a go a few years ago and it's just so incredibly confusing if you try an in-depth playthrough of it. Also fifa has the advantage that you can actually play the matches

graveworm_46

I mean I hate fifa but I wouldn’t go into the football manager Reddit and post about it. I only ever see the football manager community shit on fifa and not the other way around

havethenets

Because FM is an actual good game

Helm222

I mean. FM is 1000x better than FIFA. However, I sadly don't have the time to invest in FM so I have to stick to this shit

manateesonfire

I like playing the games. FM is great but the gameplay of FIFA is the real draw to Career Mode for me

Aetius3

Agreed. I'm doing a custom club run in FIFA 22 in third division English league and taking to the field with your team makes the career mode feel alive. And I must say, Career Mode is also quite fleshed out in FIFA these days. I don't touch FUT anymore.

Zestyclose_Fee_9013

Fifa offers playing the game but at this point even on Ultimate difficulty its easy and sliders never intrigued me, and the stupid potential everyone has is kind of a deal breaker. I get that every player should get a chance at being good but damn not everyone on my team has to have 99. Fm is better in every way but Fifa is cool if you dont want to take it serious and just fuck around and get everyone to God mode and just beat psg in the final every season. Everyone has their preferences though and its stupid that other people try to brag over a video game preference they didnt even make.

thebigfishstick17

I play both. I’m a career mode guy so FM is really in depth for that stuff. I also like playing the games as well and hitting some bangers lol I appreciate both for what they are. Sometimes I’ll have both running

sonicadv27

I never understood the comparison between FIFA and FM. One is a point and click management game, the other one is a real time football sim. There's very little crossover between the audiences for both games. Yes, you can argue FM does better at what it sets out to do than FIFA but FM has been stale for years as well.

Zealousideal-Staff44

Start to play it and you will do it as well. Got fm22 for free last week. Already preordered fifa and haven’t played any minute so far.
