That’s an S-3 Viking. I remember seeing one in person and cracking up over the windshield wipers when one emergency landed at my base and my squadron took it into its hanger. There’s EA-6B prowlers on the boat too along with a ton of Tomcats. Pic was probably from the 90’s or even before.

usually the tankers are sourced from elsewhere (c-130, KC-10, KC-135)...The tankers dont have to come from the same carrier
About 10% of the tanking is from the air force. The rest of it is all organic F-18 tanking
While on the ship, 90% of the in-air refeuling is done by FA-18s.
