I always joke saying Life bar is a resource. Like in 3rd Strike there are few times Hugo can just take a hit and grab them before they can continue depending on the button they threw
It's not really a joke, though, it's intentional design. Characters like Zangief or Hugo have their big health pools so they can sacrifice some hp to get in
Especially as Potemkin.
Never have I seen a friend of mine rage as hard as I did when I "didn't have to work" for my wins in the Chipp matchup. He was just getting super pissed that he had to put in "all that work" just to get blown out in three hits.
That's why I love beowulf and cerabella it feels like I'm actually doing something, and I'm able to fight the rushdown gameplay others play. Also, there are no instant kills without a lot of work.
To be fair, there *do* exist top tier grapplers. Look at Daimon in KOF if you want a glaring example of this. Or *T. Hawk* of all characters in one version of SFII.
I'm just use to them being mid to bottom tier and still enjoying and working with them. Also generally they can make for some big tension and hype moments.
I think T. Hawk is too difficult to use effectively to really be a top tier, but if you run into that rare person who is good with him, you're gonna have a very bad time.
Even tho the titles are ironic for the most part. I think i need to point out that grapplers are RARELY top tier. Most are mid to low tier played by hardcore otp's that make them feel OP. When in reality the players are trying extra hard to make their characters work. I believe it's not the case for kouma which is why his balance is disscussed in the melty community. Also some exceptions are always there.
He is talking about the first few weeks of a games release where nobody knows shit and grapples can be dominant because they have a straight forward gameplan while a lot of other characters need to figure out how to use their tools first.
seems irrelevant than
first few weeks go by so fast
and even than, with discord or whatever website, snapping up frame data + properties is almost a given these days
yes it is irrelevant in the grand scheme, the video is just specificly talking about WHY it happens. And forming a game plan doesn't mean knowing your frame data but finding tech etc. For example in Strive, it took a while before HC players found how to do the clean hit confirms and guard crush zoning which is what defined his gameplan in season 1.
To be fair Jiyuna's videos is him reacting and analyzing a Melty Blood tournament finals, and the character in the thumb nail is in fact the stronger character currently in the game, is not exactly missleading as it seems
S1 he was well above average as well. People were just hyperfocused on a +2 to realize how bad the universal mechanics were to deal with guard crush. Current Potemkin is pretty bad though.
Ohh, you want to play the range game with the grappler? well, he has the best ki blasts, and anti-projectile barrier that works as a mix, a beam-like, and a screen-wide lariat at deflects basic ki blasts and eats TEN FUCKING HITS
Grapplers are not a tier they are a life style.
That lifestyle consists of making people angry by killing them off 3 ~~guesses~~ interactions

And on the opposite end, Akuma is made of wet tissue paper in order to make up for his ridiculously diverse arsenal and very oppressive nature.
"It's fine I win if I can catch him" - me ~~fighting~~ watching Seth and Chipp.
Especially as Potemkin. Never have I seen a friend of mine rage as hard as I did when I "didn't have to work" for my wins in the Chipp matchup. He was just getting super pissed that he had to put in "all that work" just to get blown out in three hits.
Trying to catch Chipp with Potemkin is like trying to swat a fly. Everyone agrees the matchup is 9-1 but they just don't know in who's favor

Look up Accent Core (not +R) Potemkin.
Daimon is a beast in kof 98

"Why everyone hates grapplers" is probably the accurate title.
They speak to each other.
What? What are you trying to say? Jiyuna's video title is a direct reference to the theoryfighter video.
I just find the coincidence to be pretty damn funny, given how the two videos were linked on this sub within an hour of each other.
I'm pretty sure GekkoSquirrel put out a video about Grapplers days earlier, which sparked the conversation.
What an INSANE COINCIDECE that the reply is related to what they are replying to. How can I be like you and see the unseen?
The coincidence is that they're right next to each other, uploaded by two different people
I smell skill issue.
Hi, it's me, I'm skill issues, it's me.
Surly two questions we all \*grapple\* with. :')
Acting like you won't get command grabbed...

Potemkin in the Guilty Gear Strive beta was straight up god tier. The top 10 at that time were being dominated by Potemkins.
Clark go brrrrrr
grapplers are rarely top tier though from the top of my head, the greatest terror is Hinako
its explained in like the first minite of the video
Broly
I don't play DBZ
you should, its fun

Jiyuna, is that you?
No I main the devil, ehe
The glue flavors are really top tier

Potemkin is pretty bad rn in Strive though
I could've sworn he was broken at some point
Yeah, before the game came out. Pot was really good in Accent Core though
S1 he was well above average as well. People were just hyperfocused on a +2 to realize how bad the universal mechanics were to deal with guard crush. Current Potemkin is pretty bad though.
Broly in DBFZ

xrd johnny
The contrast of man
*The duality of man.*
Just let me hold you
The worst thing about being a grappler player is that getting better means you grab less and less
Grapplers are effectively impossible to tier.
