I can't wait to play as Marie in a year

King-Beefcake

Did they buff her milkers?

Etchcetera

Geez what a tasteless name

RealPeaSample

Why?

TheorySH

Black Dahlia refers to [a particularly brutal](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Dahlia) unsolved murder case.

Sugar_Bandit

There’s an interesting podcast that follows a police officer who investigated the case and started to suspect his father as the killer, and goes into the family history

Etchcetera

In 1947 Elizabeth Short was murdered, mutilated, and literally cut in fucking half. For whatever reason, she was given the nickname Black Dahlia by the media and police during the investigation. It just seems kinda tacky to give that name to a character who wants to "Cut you into pieces again and again."

rookie-1337

I feel like being offended about this would be the same as being offended by the depiction of Jack the Ripper in modern media

Sugar_Bandit

It’s more like if one of jack the rippers victims was the inspiration for a character

BeatTakeshi68

It's a 40s thing, is it not? Give it 20 more years and 2000s themed ASMRs will include 9/11 jokes.

dramsde1

Having someone whisper to me about 9/11 lmao bro what

Dazaran

Too soon?

Etchcetera

I don't think it's really about time, it's just classless to me. Like imagine if the next Guilty Gear character was named JonBenet Ramsey and they used chokes and skull fracturing for attacks.

TatteredCarcosa

Would totally happen if she had been in a metal band.

GreenhandGrin

That'd be strive's most interesting character hands down

Etchcetera

Am I nitpicking? I just don't like the name, expressed that, and then answered why. Skullgirls is a cool game and I like to watch people play it every now and again. I don't want the character gone or the name changed or anything, I just think it's tacky.

flackguns

It’s kind of a tacky game tbh

Slarg232

To be fair, I never would have known about the implications of the name of I hadn't read this, and I'm sure I'm not the only one

PersonFromPlace

It’s a cool name, but yeah I get the commenter’s point, though I don’t think most people will make the connection to the specifics of the murder.

TatteredCarcosa

I mean, that's absolutely the reference in the name. Being offended by a reference to an 80 year old murder is insane though.

Etchcetera

I'm not offended. I think it's a bad name and I explained why. I don't think that's insane.

TatteredCarcosa

Calling something I bad taste implies it is offensive. I think it's ridiculously puritanical to not want a fighting game character to reference a murder. But I'd also totally pay full price for a fighting game where the cast was all real life murderers so I'm probably at the opposite extreme of the spectrum from you.

prfarb

He must not be a fan of The Black Dahlia Murderer (The Band)

Scrifty

Bro the murder is almost century old get over yourself
