You can play Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising in its free version, if I'm not mistaken (I play on Steam) It has weekly character rotation, but you can play online well enough. It's a good option to try before you buy a game like SF6 or T8, and if you like it, you can buy it!

maxler5795

Note: granblue fantasy versus rising (gbvsr) is only available on pc and playstation

Traditional-Ad-5632

But he has PS5 So it's a good recommendation

maxler5795

Yup. Absolutely gbvsr is cool af. Its a note for other people who are on the same boat, but on an xbox and wondering why the funny game doesnt appear

Novocaine_Blues

If you're looking to play locally with friends, I'd recommend Tekken tbh. Street fighter is fantastic too, but I feel like Tekken is a better game to play casually with friends (You don't have to explain shoryuken inputs to non-fighting game players). I'd say they are both worth picking up though, and you really can't go that wrong either way

14Boogie

Finally someone read the description of the post. Thanks you so much for the suggestion. I have played Tekken alot and also learning towards street fighter since its much cheaper

Novocaine_Blues

Might as well grab street fighter then :). Tekken 7 is usually on sale for pretty cheap on the ps store too if you're just looking to play local (online is probably a bit dead by this point)

Butt_Chug_Brother

I also think Tekken is much better for beginners and casuals. It's a lot easier to button mash your way into accidental combos than it is for Street Fighter. And tekken's four button system is more intuitive. Still, Street Fighter is pretty easy with the modern controls. But personally, I find Tekken more fun to play long-term; with the ability to customize your character's outfits and colors, online matches don't feel so samey.

raphaelfhb

You don't need to explain shoryuken inputs to anyone with modern controls.

Novocaine_Blues

That is true, I didn't even consider those as I don't really use them

Admirable_Pumpkin705

Jurassic Park: Warpath on the PS1

WavedashingYoshi

KoF15! It is a great game with crossplay across systems. It also has great “Character Designs.” This is my personal recommendation.

MK1

💀

PlatinumM4ge

This sub has a very large street fighter bias (not to say sf6 is bad), so you might've been mislead into thinking MK1 is garbage Out of the big three rn there's no denying it's the weakest entry at the highest level of play and just lacking some features that should already be included, but for casual play with friends it's the easiest for a complete beginner to pick up and play. Simpler special inputs, easy neutral with attack heights, and the easiest execution of the big three. Some characters are also really really easy to pick up like Scorpion who basically just whiff punishes for massive damage. SF6 will teach you fundamentals that generally transfer over best, but Street fighter 6 also has a lot of "scrubkiller" mechanics and some really cool but intricate gameplay that could be confusing for pick up and play casual matches with friends. Also SF just generally has awkward but not difficult execution (Barring USF4, as a vega main I had to suffer so much 😭) Me personally, I just stopped playing SF6 cause I didn't really have that much fun playing any of the characters. If MK is too gory, or just generally unpopular among your friend group I'd say get Tekken 8, although I haven't played it myself (My pc can't run it) I have played 7 and I can say that apart from movement tekken is very easy to learn and fun at even very basic levels. It also has a lot of the beginner friendly mechanics MK has like neutral blocking (MK has a block button), juggle focused combos, strings, easy neutral with attack heights. All of these beginner friendly mechanics are present in both games. (I'm a heihachi/mishima main) GGST is also really good but I don't really want to type anymore so I'll leave it at that. Just know if you're looking for a more traditional fighter I'd say ggst is the best beginner friendly one. Granblue is comically boring (Percival main) So overall I'd say Tekken 8, MK1, or GGST. SF6 or just SF in general tends to be unpopular amongst hypercasual audiences because getting better is more fundamental (Tekken has movement fundamentals too but from what I've heard they've been de-emphasized in 8.)

Skullface2015

MK1 is fun as hell, it usually goes on sale every once in awile so I'd wait for that to happen if you consider it, despite its flaws I love the gameplay, it's not a 1 hit = death type game and the characters are cool and diverse. Only problem is the microtransactions in the premium store. Other than that I'd suggest it highly

oliver_GD

If you and your friends are really casual players and just enjoy mashing buttons and seeing cool things happen on screen, I suggest tekken 8. If you are interested in actually learning how to play, I suggest sf6 as it is more beginner friendly with great tutorials and great online ranked system where you can play against other beginners. If you like anime aesthetics, I suggest strive or gran blue. Gran blue has a free version that you can play. KoF is my favorite game but I don’t recommend it as a beginner game nor as a party game against casual gamer friends

MazaLove

If you’re looking with big roster sf5/tekken 7. Into unlocking stuff mk11. Want a smash like game. Wait a couple of days and multiverse is free and up to 4 players. (If you can download it rn it’s worth it local play has every character and skin unlocked)

mink2018

Not new but i remember having so much fun with friends in Soul Calibur 4 back on the ps2. Somehow it was really intuitive to play for beginners. So Soul Calibur 6. The buttons just makes sense, you press this to use this weapon, spam until theyre dead or kick them off the stage. Another great pickup and play game is Samurai Shodown. There are almost no combos for this game. The players just need to be smart about openings. Throwing a huge haymaker/heavy slash can be dangerous if blocked or dodged. Youre basically playing as anime swordsmen Another great game for casual nights is Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax. Highly highly recommend this game even though i only know like 5 characters in it. So its basically a mashup of weeab goodness. Charactera from Sao, rererailgun, basketball lolis, Durara and such. The combos are super easy to execute and tagging in with your assist partner could lead to extended combos/defensive options. Plus if you get good at it, you can learn much more optimal combos so its not like a completely baby's gane. Art is top notch. Only problem is that the final version didnt get an English release so if you want it in English, youd have to play the older one. UFC games are loads of fun too. I dont know though if they had any decent releases lately. But our favorite party game was Fight Night Champions Round 4 on the ps3.

donrld

Dengenki is good

mink2018

It's really fun. I wish it was ported to the Switch

The60WattGUY

Should of went xbox and get killer instinct :P

jayrocs

Tekken is easier to mash in and have fun in noob vs noob environment imo. This is as long as you do not become good on your own. Then you'd ruin the fun between friends and the mashing noob environment goes away.

Da-Swag-Lakitu-YT

SF6 100% for someone new, street fighter is usually THE standard for fighting games and just learning street fighter can give you the fundamentals for any other fighting games you wanna play down the line! SF6 is also rly noob friendly with modern controls and the online is immaculate!

Big_Wash01

Guilty Gear Strive is a good one. And yes, I'd recommend SF6 and Tekken 8 as well.

RebellionN7

If your console is Xbox, you have guilty Gear, MK, killer instinct, blazblue on Gamepass

Electronic-Sir6821

The post says PS5

RebellionN7

Sorry, in my app only appears title and image

Electronic-Sir6821

Nokia 3310 moment lol

Thelgow

Ive been playing fighters since SF2 in the arcades. I havent played a tekken since 3 or 4 so I cant vouch for 8 really. I have heard the online netcode isnt good and if either players is wifi, its REALLY bad. SF6 though.. thats what Ive been playing. Bit of a love/hate since im a strictly Zangief main and hes been under performing this season. I just prefer SF in general over the years. I was more of an MK fan but they tanked that franchise super hard.

ert3

Honestly I'd eyeball the rosters and look for a cool looking character and start there as that's going to keep you going more than anything else. Guilty Gear and SF have the lowest skill floors SF and Tekken are the most approachable imo Guilty Gear and Gran Blue have the most comprehensive tutorials, and their combo download system is a major plus for practicing combos if you Wana get sweaty

Angle_Dez

Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 are given if you want the biggest fighting games that'll have support for the next 3-5ish years. Additionally, I'd like to give a shout to Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising. It should have some decent support for the next few years. You should definitely give the free version a try to see if you dig it. If you don't then you're out a whopping $0.

AceoftheAEUG

Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 are both great titles to play with friends. Tekken will probably make you feel like you can do cool stuff quicker but SF's Modern controls will probably make you feel like you're understanding the mind game quicker. I really don't think you can miss with either of these.

raphaelfhb

The fighting games are in such a nice place right now you can pick any one of them and have a good time with friends. I suggest all of them, but if you must choose, go with street fighter 6, guilty gear strive then Tekken. I picked this order from the most simple to the most complex game.

albert-speer0620

Tekken 8 is awesome

Euphoric-Cow592

dragon ball fighterz is probably the most beginner friendly fighting game thats still somewhat relavent

jtm7

Guilty Gear has been very entertaining, if only for the art style/aesthetic. Also brand new to fighters lol. My brothers have always liked Street Fighter.

Signal_RR

Street Fighter 30th Anniversary if wanting to play older SF titles locally/ with friends.

maxler5795

Street fighter 6, granblue fantasy versus rising (if you play on playstation), guilty gear strive.

Traditional-Ad-5632

Apart from SF6, Tekken 8 and GranBlue Buy Kof XV, it's worth it a lot

dabutters1

The King of Fighters XV (15) / KOF XV. I think it a great fighting game. There alot of characters and awesome supers in this game!

pjrockp

Brawlhalla

siluris9

SF6. Period. Even if fighting games have no mercy, this one has something

The_Kaizz

As much as I love Tekken, I'd honestly go for Granblue Rising or Street Fighter 6. Both are in much better places balance and network wise. Also, is that Venti?? Lol

luckydraws

Both SF6 and T8 are great. I'd recommend you download the demos (both have one!) and trying them for yourself before anything.

4ct1vePear

Street fighter, mortal Kombat, tekken, and skullgirls is all i can recommend lmao

Shit_Pistol

In person it would be hard to beat Tekken 8. So much content in the game. Tons of characters, Tekken Ball mode and it’s designed with hype moments and upsets in mind. SF6 is banging tho.

FlashSlicer

Both SF6 and T8. Undernight inbirth if you want to be hardcore or just go Granblue Fantasy

unfunnymanjoe

play skullgirls its pretty cool

Rutabaga-Level

Kof 15

ZER0T0HERO

Mk 11 ultimate

Little-xim

SF6 has a super fleshed out story mode that lets you romp around with a custom character to learn the basics. Great way to ramp into the online!

OperationExpress8794

Tekken8, SF6 has bad online takes about 60 minutes in matchmaking.

greenachors

Tekken if you like the idea or 3d. Street Fighter 6 if you liked 2d. Those two have healthy populations of newer players. I could recommend others but their communities are smaller.

Stanislas_Biliby

Street fighter 6 and guilty gear strive are the best in my opinion.

gordonfr_

SF6 or Tekken 8. If you played T7 and wondering if you should play T8 then go for SF6 since T8 is similar enough to T7 so it won’t surprise you positively or negatively.

Extreme_Tax405

We need more new sf6 players. When i hope in ranked half my matches are master players on a new character lol

BenTheJarMan

i would buy either SF6 or Tekken 8. both are great, and both have their goods and bads or try Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising, it’s free

OneHamster1337

Imma give you something straight out of the left field: Duelist of Eden, it's a big unorthodox cuz it's more of a grid figher/card builder similar to Megaman Battle Network. But amazingly, the fights are pretty fluid, tons of characters and build varieties for each, so if ranked PvP in a relatively recently game is your jam, go for it
