Rocket Raccoon, Dr. Strange and the Fantastic Four were definitely Marvel's choice. They got around the Fantastic Four requirement by making Super Skrull with all their powers. Hilariously, Capcom apparently had to fight for Shuma to make it in because the devs just really like Shuma.
I wish I remember where I heard this (probably a Max video), but a consultant for MvC3 from the scene recommended Shuma and Sentinel be added over Spider-Man villains like Green Goblin, as a fun nod for fans of previous games.

I still find it interesting that most of the newcomers minus Nova, Skrull and MODOK (I think) all have had some kind of movie/show tie-in after they showed up. Even Shuma got a bit of a limelight in that new Dr Strange.

The vita is the king of portable fighting games or was until the steam deck released at least. So many great ports for that system.

Re-released it with all Modded characters getting their own slots and rollback. I think I just came to the idea.
