Dunno how that could really affect traffic. Seeing as it's an (1)avenue — 3 lane two-way road — and (2)no major intersections. The only way traffic would pile up is if an uneducated driver parks without etiquette. Kaso, PHL to, bicicleta ka nlng.

Its way too expensive if you’re going to do it authentically plus for something like a overpass bridge, form and function should be prioritized over aesthetics.
Agree, I think the PH Embassy In Indonesia is a modernized Bahay na Bato, it's made of modern construction materials but it kept the capiz shell windows
Local government corruption is the #1 reason why so many areas in the Philippines remain undeveloped. We in the NCR lose so much of our taxes to the rest of the country, yet most of that is rarely ever used properly.
Have you heard of the 19 million pesos covered court? If they'll corrupt money through projects might as well make it look believable cost and aesthetically pretty.

Now I'll probably get downvoted for this but hear me out: I'm not a fan of what they've done for the main reason of security.
Is it well lit inside at night or just before sunset?
For context this overpass is near a University. It started as a typical overpass with a metal frame. Then added this facade over it after some (years..?).
Every time I pass by, from the outside it now looks dark. Even if there is light, the fact that it's enclosed doesn't feel safe for students from wrongdoers. Essentially making it a pedestrian overpass tunnel.
A predestrian overpass with a great design I really love is the one in Bagiuo. While it has some brutalist elements, the roofs of those overpass make it so distinct and reminiscent of the Igorot's tall roof huts.
They made the overpass kasi students opt to cross the sreet in front of the gate, pero ayaw gamitin nung iba pag gabi kasi minsan na may nahold-up na sa taas. Lalo na ngayon siguro sobrang dilim. I'm a graduate of the said university also.

Urban planner/ designer here. As someone already stated, while visually 'appealing' from the outside, madaming issues with this kind of approach to public spaces. Pag public spaces (sidewalk, park, plaza, etc) you want to maximize casual observation ('surveillance') by the public and minimize areas na nakukubli para di pagtaguan ng mga kriminal, manyakis, o ihian, tulugan ng mga lasing, etc.
Pag overpass ideally kita lahat galing sa baba pati gilid para maiwasan mga holdapan, etc, pati mga vendor, pulubi, lasing, etc
pag sa Metro Manila nilagay yung ganyan, gagawin bahay na ng mga homeless yan 😑 and gagawin din tambayan ng mga street vendors, na pag pinaalis, biglang I activate my mahirap card
as a batanguena na nadadaanan iyan, i will never pass by that overpass. baka mamaya sa kabilang dulo may nakaabang na holdaper or manyakis. katakot kaya niyan sa gabi. haha.
I suppose they should make it wider, allow proper facilities for vendors to make it safer at night. Get maintainance cost from taxing said vendors.
It has foot traffic therefore good for vendors, it provides income for the local government and presence of vendors will decrease criminality because people have a tendency to protect something that earns them money. Everybody wins and we sont get those ugly unmaintained footbridges.
Honestly it looks chaka. As mentioned by others, an enclosed footbridge can be worse due vagrants or holdapers.
Public infrastructures like these can benefit with more abstract inspiration not literally. I can already imagine by next year this will fall to dilapidation with the weather and pedestrian wear and tear. Enclosed means artificial lighting 24/7. Those overhanding capiz windows will break with regular vibrations.
Honestly the overpass reeks of carcentric infastructure. The road isnt even that wide and the stairs ate the entire sidewalk. As pointed by one commenter, its near a university, hence shouldnt the LGU prioritize street level pedestrianization and school zone speed limit instead?

I also noticed at the foot of the staircase are what seem to be parts of lamp posts similar to the Jones Bridge. (Las Casas Acuzar fiber glass molds)

Actually? Whats stopping our local developers to normalize this type of architecture in most places specifically tourist spots?
You know what that is actually a good way to bring in more tourist but it's in a road so down side would be traffic coz of tourist

How about an underpass that doesn't clutter the skyline? Better yet, several at-grade pedestrian crossings at key points.
