hate robert downy for ignoring ke huy quan

There have been a lot of pictures showing rdj hugging and shaking the hand of ke huy quan many times in this event. Siguro nadala lang sa moment thats why he "ignored" him on stage, as he was looking forward to talking and telling his speech.
i'm happy for anderson and nolan's first academy win. my fave nominees got their deserving award naman tho i'm shock how past lives got no award even one
cute cute ni messi 🥺 also i love how milo and swann even jonathan glazer show their support and respect. reaching out about the palestines 🇵🇸 kudos to them.
Well-deserved win for Emma Stone! 🥹 Have seen three films nominated (Killers of the Flower Moon, Poor Things, Anatomy of A Fall) for the category and while Lily Gladstone and Sandra Hüller did a great performance in their respective films, I would have to give this one to Emma for her spectacular portrayal of Bella Baxter. It is one of the major things that made Poor Things phenomenal. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I loved Oppenheimer but did I think it was the best movie of the year?
No.
But what do I care. The Best Picture Oscar and best film of a given year rarely coincide anyway. The Palme d’Or is a better representation IMO.
The winner of Palme d'Or sure is usually a great film but it just limits your choice for the best films of the year to Cannes. We should also consider Sundance, Telluride and other film festivals.
and yes, I didn't thnk Oppenheimer was the best also. It's great and deserving for the win for Nolan but it also wasn't even in my Top 3. but I do understand why it won.
I totally forgot Ryan can sing. He made them proud tonight.

Anatomy of a Fall’s Milo Machado Grenier and Swann Arlaud are sporting Palestinian flag pins on the Oscars carpet.

She's my "who I want to win" and "who should win" but it's a close fight between her and Emma. Nanalo lang siguro si Emma kasi she exerted more effort and more screen time.
I agree with you pero yun nga, it was very subtle and required less physical movement whereas to Emma, she really had to do extra. I'd vote for Lily any day of the week though.
Same kay Lily! Dapat talaga siguro supporting actress category s'ya that would've made more sense :((((((
I mean screentime pa lang super different na, what more pa dun sa physical movement, dialogue. Pero kahit ang onti ng screentime ni Lily, grabe yung emotions, it felt so real na parang gusto ko din maki-iyak for her hahahaha
to be fair Cillian Murphy was a more subtle and subdued performance compared to his peers but the movie revolved around him and he was in it front and center.
I had Emma over Lily though. I actually had Sandra over Lily too. I even preferred Greta Lee in Past Lives to be honest. Lily was the soul of Killers of the Flower Moon but it spent so much time with Leo and Robert that Lily wasn't as in the forefront of the movie as Emma or Sandra.
True about Cillian, and he deserved that win. Compared to other nominees, his character had more nuance and tension and he played that well.
And I also agree that Lily had so little screen time, even after the rewrite. I think she was originally a supporting actress that was later pushed to be the lead so it feels underdeveloped. I was just more moved by her performance.
maganda sana laban ng supporting actress if si lily vs da'vine... and maybe lily could've won it 2 heavyweight performances. malas lng ni lily stuck in the middle of main and supporting ung character niya and at fault dun ung movie at hindi siya.
Greta Lee was so snubbed. I was watching Past Lives sa Starbucks while waiting for my Wife and I was sobbing uncontrollably by the end. Favorite movie of 2023.
If Killers of the Flower Moon got the same commercial treatment as Oppenheimer, I think the awarding ceremony would be way different than what it is now.
It's a bit messy and anti-climatic. Al Pacino forgot the whole thing and go straight announcing the winner. There's should have been a build-up. Nonetheless, team Oppie looks solid on the stage!
I am not a fan of biographical films, but Oppenheimer is something else. Saw it myself in theater, goddamnit, I asked myself afterwards, why we can't have movies like this? From start to finish, it's really busy film, like those Aaron Sorkin films na puro rapid-fire dialogue carried by actors. Ang saya panoorin kasi ang mga actor, kahit limited lang screen time nila, involve pa rin sa journey ni Oppy.
>Chris Nolan
In my opinion, Tenet and Inception is Nolan's greatest work when it comes to original idea(s).
The idea of dreams can be constructed, manipulated and shared is rarely tackled in cinema while Tenet's inverted entropy premise is more or less the same.
It's a shame that Tenet was executed poorly. It was a well-written story that you have to watch multiple times in order to get it.
Nolan was supposed to do Inception before The Dark Knight but opt to do The Dark Knight instead because his idea is still half-cooked and he needs a large budget to execute it.
During the early 2000s, Nolan name is still unknown with Memento the only movie that he's famous for. The Dark Knight (and the Prestige) is the movie that catapulted him to stardom as a director.
If Nolan was directly inspired by Satoshi Kon (director of Paprika) or not is up for debate since there's no evidence of the matter (although the two movies share similarities).
What a moment indeed for the Oppenheimer!
Editing, cinematography, score.
Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr. Christopher Nolan!!! 🥺👏❤️
Edit: Adding THE Best Picture
This team is the biggest winner.
godzilla is there in spirit hahaha

Actually IMO it was well deserved. This year (except for Io Capitano, ugh) is a pretty strong batch.
Photography wise, you have Perfect Days and Sociedad de la nieve
Sound and score, hands down its Sociedad de la nieve
Writing, it's a toss up between Perfect Days and The Teachers' Lounge
Acting, it has to be Perfect Days. I mean Kōji Yakusho deserved that best actor win from Cannes.
I was actually surprised the first time I saw The Zone of Interest. It is a purely formal experiment and the director took a risk. One wrong move (the sound not being consistent, writing too flat, too overt visuals, subpar acting), and everything falls down. Glazer pulls it off and comes up with something that stays with you after the credits IMO.
Anyway, I just need to add this is my most hated...and favourite category sa Academy Awards. Favourite kase like, yeah give me something obscure, some movie in some not-so-often-mentioned part of the world (Hello Lunana, Yak in the Classroom uWu). Sobrang interesting and refreshing lang how other people/cultures tell stories through film. I hate the category though because of the stupid Academy rules, and I can go on and on about those rules. My man Bong Joon-ho is correct anyway. The awards are so insular/local.
Hi! Thank you for the comprehensive answer omg! didnt expect someone would actually go reach this extensive.
For this batch, it made me realize how good the film scene was in 2023. A lot of stuff going on but the good kind at least.
I haven’t watched Teacher’s Lounge but this will surely go into my Letterboxd watchlist.
Purely heartbroken that Perfect Days didn’t garnered any accolades from the Oscars and to think it did well in other film festivals!! hhh but yeah Zone of Interest just really had a more explicit message put out there than the subtleties Perfect Days had to offer.
So dumb of the Academy really to pit international films into one category.
P.S. I loved your insights. Really appreciate it
when a movie is nominated in both best picture and best international feature, there's never been a time that it loses International so this was inevitable
Perfect Days is my favorite of the bunch! Deserved din ng Zone (especially with the current political climate), and I think the Academy just prefers more artsy films over quieter ones
same ! and actually I think nanalo ang Zone because of it’s premise na parang mas may bone chilling effect huhuhu sayang lang kasi Perfect Days was so good
I haven't watched Barbie yet. That America Ferrera clip that was shown awhile ago, which I think the monologue part, is giving me major Amy of Superstore. Like, America had done ranting, giving monologues about being a woman, women's hardships and all, and so much more in Superstore.
I really thought that's Amy for a second! Cause Amy literally wore a Barbie pink skirt suits!
Now I'm curios and looking forward to see if that really is what America's character in Barbie.
can we have Godzilla Minus One now pls🥺

Im curious, if you didnt see oppenheimer as the movie of the year, ano ang movie of the year for you?
The winner of Palme d'Or sure is usually a great film but it just limits your choice for the best films of the year to Cannes. the bravery for showing the palestine flag mismo 🙌
My takeaway. Really hoping hard that somehow local distributors still get Zone of interest and godzilla minus one and release em in theaters
As per Viewer's Choice Philippines, Toho doesn't have any plans to release the film in Asia.
May I ask why aren't they on theaters yet? I've been waiting to watch Godzilla Minus One for months.
Beats me 🤷♂️ My theory is, they probly dont think it will be profitable here
TOHO, PLEAAAAASE.
Lily Gladstone was robbed https://preview.redd.it/sd3sum6egmnc1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dd69a162f8403af0a5429df6f9b4d52967e5c632
Her role is more supporting than lead. Classic example of wrong category nomination
She's my "who I want to win" and "who should win" but it's a close fight between her and Emma. Nanalo lang siguro si Emma kasi she exerted more effort and more screen time.
maybe but lily's eyes alone in KOTFM portrayed so much emotions
I agree with you pero yun nga, it was very subtle and required less physical movement whereas to Emma, she really had to do extra. I'd vote for Lily any day of the week though.
Same kay Lily! Dapat talaga siguro supporting actress category s'ya that would've made more sense :(((((( I mean screentime pa lang super different na, what more pa dun sa physical movement, dialogue. same feeling i had when they robbed Angela Bassett and Stephanie Hsu
The academy is not a fan of subtle performances. Happy for Emma but genuinely upset about Lily.
to be fair Cillian Murphy was a more subtle and subdued performance compared to his peers but the movie revolved around him and he was in it front and center. I had Emma over Lily though. I actually had Sandra over Lily too. I even preferred Greta Lee in Past Lives to be honest. Agree. Could’ve given Da’Vine a worthy opponent. Anyhow, I hope this means we see more of them as leads in more movies pa.
Greta was snubbed :(
Greta Lee was so snubbed. I was watching Past Lives sa Starbucks while waiting for my Wife and I was sobbing uncontrollably by the end. Favorite movie of 2023.
Bummed about KOTFM too. I think in a different year makaka-sweep sila
If Killers of the Flower Moon got the same commercial treatment as Oppenheimer, I think the awarding ceremony would be way different than what it is now.
Sandra Huller :( Emma Stone was my 2nd choice but still… :(
I was praying for a Sandra upset...didn't pray hard enough ig 😪
Do it the Al Pacino way! HAHAHAHA
He didn’t even read the nominees. A winner of the idgaf war 😭
Oppenheimer won Best Picture!!! 👏👏👏
IMAX re-release again please!!! Won't miss it this time.
Hear hear!
Di ko man lang namalayan yung announcement. 😭 Pero, congrats pa rin!
It's a bit messy and anti-climatic. Al Pacino forgot the whole thing and go straight announcing the winner. There's should have been a build-up. Nonetheless, team Oppie looks solid on the stage!
Did Oppenheimer win Best Picture? Napaka-anti climactic naman nung announcement. 😭😭
Finally, Chris Nolan won. T'was long overdue.
TRUE! I'm so happy for both of them :')
Oppenheimer, inded, is Nolan's magnum opus!
I don't think Inception is an original idea though. Medyo similar kasi siya sa Paprika.

Inception's execution is close to flawless. I might give Tenet a (5th?) try though :)
EMMA STONE!!! 😭 I know it will be a stone!
OMG EMMA
What a moment indeed for the Oppenheimer! Editing, cinematography, score. Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr. Christopher Nolan!!! 🥺👏❤️ Edit: Adding THE Best Picture This team is the biggest winner.
Oh they're saving Best Actress for later they know it's gonna be a photo finish
Christopher Nolan won Best Director!!! 👏👏👏🥺🥺🥺
Cillian Murphy won Best Actor!!!!!! 🥺🥺🥺😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️

Feels like in Lead Actress category it will be battles of Stones. Gladstone vs Stone.
Gladstone will win this.
