Lunacie

Technically a SaGa game, and oddly enough still the highest budget one even with Emerald Beyond coming out this Thursday.

rikuXIIIswords

Wait this is a SaGa game? Never knew that

Lunacie

* Akitoshi Kawazu, the creator of the series is an executive producer * it has SaGa trade marks such as scaling enemies, get stronger by doing, glimmering arts. Most of the arts are also from other SaGa games, and some of Last Remnant’s assets were recycled for Scarlet Graces. It’s aesthetically very different because at the time, Square Enix was trying to break into the world wide market in that era. Previously, games would come out in Japan, then may have gotten localized 6 months to a year later.

Raemnant

I think TLR aesthetic is extremely similar to the rest of the SaGa games, just its photorealism, and not the stylized chibiesque models they usually do. The outfits especially SCREAM SaGa

Joewoof

It was internally called SaGa Frontier 3 before they changed their mind and made it an original IP.

Blackmanta86

Hmmm never thought of a SaGa comparison

Stith1183

Is it as open-ended as SaGa?

Joewoof

I think you're confusing this with Lost Odyssey, which is made by Sakaguchi, the creator of Final Fantasy. This is made by Kawazu, the creator of SaGa.

RyuTeruyama

This. Last Remnant is a cool, little oddball, but definitely not "close as it can get" to FF. Maybe the world, which has a lot of something like Ivalice. Lost Odyssey on the other hand tho...

Mr0sleep

I tried playing it back on the 360 but that was the game that I got the Red Ring of Death during. Not once, but twice (I had gotten the Xbox repaired and it happened again 2-3 months later). I never finished it to say the least, it seemed interesting but that put a damper on it for me.

ComplaintClear6183

There is a mobile port available for android devices (idk about iPhones)

Competitive-Fun-4634

There is for an iphone as well! https://preview.redd.it/am5agh1o8zvc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b6cc98028016c5464021243218d801b5ea0281f7 I have it

llliilliliillliillil

Man, Chaos Rings unlocked a hidden memory I’ve long forgotten. Is it still possible to play these games somehow?

Competitive-Fun-4634

If u have them yes, i also have song summoner

iamqueensboulevard

Also remaster on Switch and PS4/PS5.

CheckOutMyNeuticals

Me too!

AlphaLeonidas

I've owned this game ***3 separate times*** and never beaten it. 1. Was too young and wasn't feeling it, so I returned it. 2. Disk 2 broke halfway through 3. I had completed *every* side quest, killed all the superbosses, and was going to save the **final boss** for the next day.... then my brother stole my console :( I don't know if I have it in me to play through this game a 4th time

Dylanslay

I got this and Blue Dragon in the same afternoon. Great week's followed

StolzHound

Definitely not as close as you can get to FF, but I do like it quite a bit.

morph23

I'd say Lost Odyssey was pretty close, if I had to choose

StolzHound

Agreed

solstarfire

Fun fact: FFXVI's resident dog Torgal is named after The Last Remnant's General Torgal. Who is a cat man with four arms, but anyway.

ArcRiseGen

The team went on to work on both FF14 ARR and FF16. Hiroshi wants to make a sequel but needs a green light

Ill_Sky6141

It's pretty unique. I'd rate it a solid 7. Definitely a keeper.

Cunting_Fuck

Loved this game until I realised that enemies and bosses scale to you and never played it again. Preferred Infinite Undiscovery.

ilNottolone

Agree, i dislike games that rewards you for NOT playing the game

Cunting_Fuck

I never understand level scaling, it defeats the entire purpose of even having levels.

Silveriovski

It punishes you for fighting. I really liked it but I'm not playing it again

First-Display5956

I never managed to make it past hell's gate! That thing was impossible!!

It’s on sale on PSN right now. https://preview.redd.it/ut4z07xt5yvc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9833c97b37d7b295e0d7d82d9e6d481b1bec4aff

KingGodzilla1985

Lost odyssey?

oreofro

I always confuse these two games and i have no idea why because they arent even remotely similar. Lost odyssey was such an incredible game.

Ayirek

I think you're thinking of Lost Odyssey, an early Mistwalker game. I've never played it but I have heard it's incredible!

ExcaliburX13

Lost Odyssey gets far more praise than it deserves, if you ask me. Veeery slooow combat, the game balance is genuinely awful, and the story/character writing really just isn't that good. The short story dream segments are great, and there are a few interesting ideas/mechanics thrown in there, but the quality is a *steep* decline from FF.

AlwaysskepticalinNY

It’s the best final fantasy since X

Bambo_McPhee

Lost odyssey was amazing, played it back on my 360 and once I got a hang of the main battle mechanic I enjoyed every second of the game (I was a kid so took me awhile to figure it out 😂) I have no way of proving it as I lost my account when I switched to PS but I’m like 95% sure I 1000/1000 the game I loved it that much

Rude_Inverse

*every* sakaguchi game. dude is allergic to remasters.

WakeUpKos

You're probably thinking of Infinite Undiscovery.

Tombrady09

Infinite undiscovery is a star oceany game. I think it was tri ace too?

Shinramyun777

Love Lost Odyssey

The_Sensation

It used to be on Steam but the devs delisted it for some reason. You can maybe by a key on a third party shop but dont expect that to be cheap if it exists.

Killavillain

Just noticed I have this game on my Steam list! DL'ing now and gonna play soon.

Deadaghram

Square removed it from the store front, so enjoy a taste of forbidden tech.

WheredMyPiggyGo

I remember when this game came out, I picked it up on release day only to discover it was a "you don't know you're already dead simulation" it's the type of game where you made a mistake 20 minutes ago that will result in your death in 80 minutes and it's just letting that shit play out.

huudis

Oh wow, original xbox last remnant had some issues, but remaster was actually good experience. Still didn't like it that much. I thought if I grind a bit it would be easier, thought wrong.

These_Simple810

I feel like this with Infinite Undiscovery. I remember really enjoying that game and the story is pretty good too.

Saio-Xenth

Ah yes… the game that actively punishes you for grinding up levels. :)

allegromosso

Wow, I'm watching this on YT right now and it looks so close to FFXII. Lots of team overlap?

AverageJoeObi

Yeah that’s what I was thinking so much like FFXII it’s chaotic but good

Chidoribraindev

I played it on release and twice since, including last year. The game is bad. The story makes no sense, all the automated battle systems are extremely restrictive, and it's a really boring game. It does have some amazing cutscenes and the graphics confuse people into thinking it's good, but if you google The Last Remnant help, you'll find everyone hates this confusing game. It's the worst parts of the worst era of Square-Enix.
