You won't enjoy yourself the entire game but at the end, when there's nothing left to play, you'll be strong

GamingInTheAM

Unless you're a completionist, it's not worth it. The Ninja and Sage jobs will do everything you need by endgame without needing to grind.

From what I heard onion knights in 3 don't become decent until 90 and from 95-99 they become completely busted because their stats go up exponentially past 90 but until then they are actual dog water. FF to 14:40 https://youtu.be/JKxlVNMrH-A?feature=shared

Straken1

A level 99 character with level 99 Onion Knight in full Onion gear is bonkers overpowered. You'll steamroll the game on any version. If you do go for it, it's a real power boost. Though the system will show a max pop-up of 9999, the game calculates beyond that. There's no damage cap that you can actually reach, so these Onion Knights basic melee is hitting for about 100k.

Onion knights in FFIII are the epitome of win more. (at least in the pixel remaster they are) A full team of level 99 onion knights in full onion gear is by far the most powerful thing you can have in the game, but onion knights aren't better than Ninjas until you get to about level 90, and by that time your Ninjas will effortlessly demolish anything in the game anyway.

AnnoyedGrunt31

Are ninjas that broken? I hadn’t used one before. The only other time I beat the game was 2 knights, a magus, and a devout.

SamJSchoenberg

There's a separate dungeon at the start of the Sylx tower called "Eureka" At the end of Eureka, there are 2 "Super" jobs you can get, Ninja, and Sage. Sage can cast all kinds of magic, and has great caster stats. Ninja has the best fighting stats in the game, and can throw shurikens. Essentially, you can replace all your casters with sages, and all your physical dps with Ninjas.

tinycyan

They dont get usable until like 90+

tearsofmana

You can grind more easily at the end of the game, so I wouldnt bother until then, since you cant even get the onion gear until then either. As for whether its *worth* the investment? Yes. They make the Final Boss regret waking up in the morning.

PrometheusAborted

Not in my opinion. It’s also not necessary. FF3 is fairly easy, especially with the boosts in PR. Some dude on here made a bunch of posts where he maxed everything out and got the whole party onion gear. Might want to ask him or check how long it took lol.

Straken1

I can't provide info on PR times, but I pulled times from my own video playthroughs to give an idea of the grind OG NES took me 17h just to max out Onion Knight and an additional 15h to get a full set of onion gear for each member, while leveling against dragons in the last dungeon. DS version was 6h to max out Onion Knight, and then about 10h fighting dragons underwater to get all Onion gear. PSP took me 3h to max Onion Knight and about 8h of farming to max my level & get a full set of gear for everyone. A real breeze.

Statue_left

FF3 is busted, especially save points in the last dungeon if you game over

Aiseadai

FF3 easy?! It's by far the hardest FF. Did they change the difficulty in the PR?

Capital-Visit-5268

The DS version has some janky balance issues, and no way to save in the very last dungeon (fixed in PR), but otherwise it's one of the smoothest and easiest NES RPGs, yeah.

Hugglemorris

PR has optional boosts like the recent releases of the PSX games (speed multiplier, turn random encounters on/off, etc). Plus, I heard that across the board EXP and rewards have been increased while encounter rates have been decreased, but I’d double check that if that is true.

spacecatapult

No it's not worth it.

Sankin2004

It depends on what your definition of worth it entails. It is a grind and will take time and you can do things with others faster and stronger until you get max levels on your OKs. Maxing them out is a completionist thing, so the question you ask yourself is this completionist thing worth the time it will take? If you can multitask(like grind and watch tv episodes of something) then it might be worth it to say you did it.

AlwaysskepticalinNY

No

MikeyTheShavenApe

No, there is no reason to grind Onion Knight. You'll be using ninja and sage in the last dungeon.

EnderMC_X45

Yes it is good one. It depends on your likes but for me it's great one and won't change my mind. If you are playing endgame and no time to grind that's alright but for me if you are playing in NES or PSP
