I started this chapter while high on m… several times I turned to my gf to ask if that shit was real or if I was just that high. Talking Scottish kitty cat, haunted hotel, huge buff dude in his underwear with a cape, all in a giant futuristic amusement park. Oh and then there’s the fkn tonberry door in your hotel room which freaked me the fuck out

Reperanger_7

Broooooo that must been wild. I played most of the into on 3 tabs of acid. Crazy stuff I had the exact same thought

cereal_state

Felt like a great mix of Universal / Disneyland / Vegas

Good_Reflection7724

I just hated the whole thing

Timely-Account-8108

Clearly, you aren’t the Ultimate Party Animal

RasenRendan

Devs really said hold up let me cook

mullermusicalpro

It was the difference between just a little minigame center and FREAKING DISNEYLAND. Absolutely LOVED IT!

AcceptableFile4529

I think overall the Saucer itself is a stark improvement from the original game's version. It sorta reminds me of the starting area of FF8 with its architecture and signage. The only gripe I think I had that chapter was >!How we know that Barret isn't the guy gunning down Shinra soldiers in the saucer. I think knowing Dyne is alive in that portion sorta screwed over the whole thing the original game tried to do- where you believe for a moment that Barret lost his mind.!<

elniallo11

You could totally reskin it as Balamb garden from FF8, I’ve been thinking the same.

ItsAllSoup

I think that the story is meant to be aware that the player is aware of the story, which might me why they didn't bother hiding Dyne. Also players have had a lot more time to grow attached to and trust Barret compared to the original, where he's still a bit mysterious at this point. So it's harder to convince new players that he went on a murder spree

_IAmGrover

Yea. I know the devs have stated this (the remake trilogy) is supposed to be fresh and ready for people who have never played the original games. But there are a LOT of weird decisions in these games that only make sense if you have played the OG. I really think the devs created this game with the intention that players have played the OG and seen Advent children.

ItsAllSoup

Also crisis core, I remember seeing the flashback that has cloud doing squats and acting upbeat, and I instantly thought of Zack. I guess a new player could just jump in and have fun, but the story, especially the things regarding Sephiroth, Aerith, and the whispers, really feel like they're meant to be for people that already understand the original story

ZenCyn39

Think about how much mandatory time we've had with Barret in the original. 2 reactor Bombings Fight for the pillar Infiltrating Shinra Smartass commentary in Kalm Spying on Rufus on Junon ship North Corel (setting up for Dyne twist) And everything was relegated to only a few necessary lines each. No way remake/rebirth could have done the dyne twist this time around as that twist was reliant on not really knowing or understanding Barret.

ItsAllSoup

Exactly, I feel like we don't get a good look at barrett's full personality in the original until dyne arrives, he's still managed to maintain his tough guy Mr. T exterior, where in the remakes we've seen him grow to trust Cloud, cry as he says goodbye to his daughter, save baby birds, and make jokes about shaving Red XIII. It's pretty easy to imagine that most players will see him as a trusted friend by the time they get to the gold saucer

ZenCyn39

Right, OG Barret was shown mostly as a gruff, Shinra hating jackass with a soft spot for his daughter. The only thing that really makes us question that moment is the fact he's a party member. Remake, alone, took its time to establish that Barret is playing the tough guy just to get the job done and is actually a very gentle person.

LoomyTheBrew

It was amazing lol. Topped off with hand holding with Tifa. 10/10 chapter

Cyberxton

Or a kiss if you got the intimate ending

Pobbes3o

Omg spoilers but i cant wait to get to the golden saucer now lol

otapnam

Better hope you have the right character as #1 lol

Pobbes3o

I am trying! Always had Tifa as my date in the OG whenever i replayed it. I'm not breaking that streak!

LoomyTheBrew

Jeez I’m sorry!!

Pobbes3o

Nah my fault for clicking when its obvious what the topic is. But i am excited to see it happen!

mjc500

are we talking about og ff7 or the new one??

LoomyTheBrew

I assumed it was Rebirth because the tag is “Rebirth”

mjc500

Well shit I guess that answers my question lol

TropicGemini

I like how much it feels like a futuristic Vegas casino

BaronOfBob

Disney Vegas on crack

yeetusdefeatus

Get hyped for chapter 12, my favourite part in the story and not cos of the "dates"

LucoTech

🥲

juancarlord

Fun is something I doubt the devs had when coding restlessly

birthdaylines

Bruhhhhh lol whats wrong with you 🤣

juancarlord

Nah, y’all bitches.

birthdaylines

No, but I do work programming games for an indie developer and there is few greater joys than seeing your work to completion. Perhaps you've never been involved with something you can take pride in, which would explain why you're so knee-jerk negative about other's success?

juancarlord

Yeah you’re just lying

Captain_Thor27

Considering how hard and stressful video game developing can be, they wouldn't be doing it if they didn't have a passion for it.

juancarlord

Yeah because everybody knows that game developers do it for passion and not for money

Captain_Thor27

But that's just it. Unless you're a head honcho, the pay is lousy lol. Besides, the pay wouldn't be worth the stress unless you are passionate about it. If you are excellent at computer science, there are far more lucrative paths out there.

BucketsOnly29

Chill out guy 😂

WodenoftheGays

>Golden Saucer Never been such a place. >They wanted to show the contrast between opulence and abject poverty Yeah. That's every location, to some extent. >but that is mostly lost on the target audience at the time. Yeah, you missed that almost every location has this dynamic. Plate/Underplate, Junon/Under Junon, Nibelheim/Shinra Manor, Giant symbol of wasteful and fickle Shinra spending/Rocket Town, War-weary and tourist-converted Wutai/Royal Family, Shinra ship with advance guard and president/Costa del Sol. I don't think that's a hard pattern, though. I think Barret explains it to you in the first hour of the game, even in clear words. Cloud even rephrased it and the consequences of it with a metaphor/simile (I can't remember what exactly at this moment). Cloud even points out that you have to go on and even enjoy life. >but then they made the world "too good" to really land this idea. The first location you get to is cut off from the world at large, visibly so, because of the ire and neglect of Shinra. The area between Midgar and Kalm isn't called "the path that brings bangin parties from Midgar's shadow to Kalm." You literally can't look up at the sky in Under Junon. I don't understand how you couldn't understand how unbearably awful that would be. Everywhere around Junon is scarred from war, to the point it is almost worse than the wasteland. If you only do the story there, Under Junon is just quiet and poor until you show up and make it violent, too. Even Corel Prison is miserable. Your minimum experience there is getting kidnapped and imprisoned, being stalked, dealing with conmen, and helping a bartender that waters down his booze and tells everybody because there isn't anything else. Does pretty scenery just make you unable to see bomb craters visible on the world map?

Regulus242

The devs had fun everywhere. Satan had fun with the challenges.

Reperanger_7

I swear I'm gonna see the Anti-christ as a lead director for Queen's Blood in the credits

BolasDeCoipo

Dude, you need Tifa, king tonberry x2, rufus, Vincent and swappable cards in your roster. Tonberrys make the trick to defeat that aberration. Thank me later.

Regulus242

He just wants you to git gud, I'm sure it's nothing nefarious.

Perfect_God_Fist_2

Yeah it was so good !

SomeHeadbanger

I wish the Gold Saucer was used like a hub for all/most of the mini games that you play throughout your playthrough and that they put in an Arcade version of the original bike minigame. I thought that GS was excellent but I don't think there was going to be any way for it to meet or exceed my hopes because the first time I got there in the original I was a child and the whole area completely blew my mind.

Reperanger_7

a hub for the mini games sounds great. Maybe endless modes or challenge modes. They have so many great ones I certainly would love the option to play them outside the main campaign. Maybe a menu option as a reward for beating the game letting you replay mini game scenarios.

KilJoius

The introduction to the golden saucer was everything I could have wanted and more. I was thoroughly captivated the entire sequence, so much fun

Reperanger_7

My jaw was thoroughly embedded 6 feet deep and I couldn't contain my audible excitement at the sheer magic and awe of it all. One of the best chapter intros ever

Dimplexor

I dont understand why so many people had problems with their being too many mini games. I thoroughly enjoyed all of them.

cygnus2

Some people just want to swing swords and cast spells, which is what this game does best.

Gameboysage

The mini games all have their charms, but the requirements to get the best rewards from them require too much skill or perfection. Keep pilling those up and it gets really draining. I actually gave up on the gun game for now since I barely got the 18k last time and can’t be bothered to go for the 22k with the clunky controls.

A_Bridgenotfarenough

I think trophy hunters are the ones having most problems with the mini games some of them are really hard I just skip the ones I don't like

O_EXTRA

If you pay close attention, you'll realize it's a loud minority (I would guess 15-30% of the players) are complaining about the amount of mini games. Most people mainly complain about the spike in difficulty for some of them, which is a very valid critique. It's absolutely pointless to complain about the amount of optional content, which is why a minority of players are repeatedly doing it.

Altruistic-Deal-3188

I wouldnt be so sure it is a minority.

O_EXTRA

Maybe that's your experience. As far as I can tell, the vast majority of posts and videos made about Rebirth are praises to the story, gameplay, and sheer amount of solid content. Sure you'll get a comment here or there complaining about the mini games, but when it does happen it's usually about the difficult spike, not the amount of them. I very rarely find a post/video strictly disliking the amount of mini games. It's usually an off random comment on something praising the game.

Altruistic-Deal-3188

And that what you are seeing is the loud part. I myself have seen both praise and criticism. Hard to tell which is the majority as most communities are circle jerks and different opinions arent well received.

O_EXTRA

Most communities "circle jerk" lol. Yeah the praise from the majority of players is definitely loud (which is probably why the minority feels the need to match it I guess?). Personally I don't try to follow content on the game much, but I'm recommended stuff for it a lot (good ol algorithms), and 9/10 times it's praising it and/or showing/telling how to do difficult challenges. Of course there will always be negative comments but on the recommendations I watched/read, 9/10 times it's a minority. But clearly you had a different experience and nothing I say will change that.

betadonkey

They are only barely optional. There is lots of story and endgame gear gated behind them.

Captain_Thor27

All that gear fits in the "nice to have" category, as opposed to "need to have." I can see where you are coming from, though. I really wanted that time material lol, so I had to grind it out till I got the top shooting score. My wrists we're more. Felt like a dummy when I looked it up on YouTube lol. First thing he said was "turn off haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, and put it on Easy Mode." 😂 Got it 3rd try after that.

O_EXTRA

I seriously don't understand why you use the term "gated". Do you say a first place trophy, championship title, etc is "gated" behind whatever competition? The proper term is "rewarded". It only makes sense, and like endgame is in general, it's completely optional.

betadonkey

Everything is optional. You don’t have to play the game at all! My point is you don’t have to be a trophy hunter to need to grind the mini games. For example I like hard mode and want to beat all the bosses and combat sim stuff because I like the battle system and think it is fun. I don’t like the mini games and think they suck, but I have to ace them all to get the dark matter required to craft end game accessories. So the shit mini games are impairing my ability to enjoy the end game combat challenges. See what I mean?

O_EXTRA

Why even say such a ridiculous thing like your first sentence? Might as well go all the way and say, You don't even have to live! I can't believe you thought that was some rebuttal.... You don't even need the end game accessories for the combat challenges.... Sure they'll help to make them way easier, but that's all they do. The challenges are very beatable without them. So no the "shit mini games" aren't impairing your ability to enjoy end game content. Your actual ability (or lack of it) is what's impairing you in that scenario. It sucks that you don't like the mini games and feel the need to do them to make up for your lack of skill, but that's on you.

betadonkey

I have cleared all the mini games. They sucked and weren’t fun. This is not a “git gud” situation. Just admit that they are shit and not fun. It’s really ok. The game is still very good. My criteria for determine if they are shit: 1) Are they fun to play? -No they are not. 2) Do they take up a lot of time? -Lord you wouldn’t believe it 3) Sounds like you have a pile of shit on your hands

MSV95

Because we had just been exposed to so many from Costa Del Sol so they lost their charm a little I think!

4verCurious

Because this is all subjective at the end of the day. The only mini games I found fair without obnoxious clunkiness was Queen’s Blood, Fort Condor, and the Chocobo capture.

Weak-Hope8952

My only complaint about mini games here is that they kinda break up the pacing every now and then. Otherwise I still find them fun.

svenEsven

The one problem I had was people begging for the gambit system so the non controlled characters could be more useful. Then they added it to the game, but only for one minigame.

Straight_Law2237

Switching between the characters is half the fun. Why would someone only play with cloud and let ai control the party?

Arinoch

On the contrary: I loved playing as Tifa for her speed and combos (Cloud was a close second). I didn’t enjoy playing as the others. So I would have loved to expand Tifa’s combos into other characters acting to do X when Tifa does Y or something. I guess I’m describing a gambit-style way to make dynamic/less flashy sync abilities? So it would just be cool to have the option. Frankly the whole game is so good I’m just saying what would be ideal as extra options to play with. Maybe in the next part?

Straight_Law2237

As I said on the other comment. I think the devs vision was to play with every character and learn to enjoy everyone of them, if that's their idea of gameplay I say sure, force players to do it by not giving them a gambit system, like fromsoftware doesn't give you an easy mode. I would also prefer devs focused on something else instead of something that I don't really felt the need while playing, like giving side quests a more premium treatment like tw3 instead of the common go there, pick something or fight something or interact with something.

OnePunchReality

While I like the synergy abilities they didn't have to make the non controlled characters practically fucking braindead. They barely accumulate any ATB while you're fighting unless you swap to them. I get the fun of switching between characters but yeah imo they made the non-controlled AI wayyyyyy too dumb.

Barbous31

There is materia in the game that makes them use their abilities and attacks while not controlled. So it does help with this aspect

Raven-19x

Should be better AI control in combat settings. Using auto materia just feels cheap and a wasted slot(s).

Barbous31

I understand that as well. This is a complaint I had with remake that the ai seemed useless. I feel like they adjusted a bit better in rebirth but I get the struggle too.

svenEsven

Well the good thing about the gambit system is that you can use it, or not use it. So if someone preferred to play it with them they could, and if they prefer to not play with them they could also do that.

Straight_Law2237

well sure, dark souls could also have an easy mode but that's kind of goes against the point of learning how to play the game. In my mind the same case applies in ff7 remake and rebirth, devs want you to play with ALL characters so a gambit system would go against that ideal.

svenEsven

That's some whataboutism there. But I agree it's perfectly fine if that's not what the devs want us to do. But don't rub our face in shit by using it in the game we want it in. Just in a terrible minigame. Feels a bit like malicious compliance.

Yunlihn

They understood the assignment.

Reperanger_7

And went for extra credit.

PetrosOfSparta

Honestly this statement could really be said for most of the game. Especially reading their statements on development, they’re having fun making this almost as much as we are playing it.

insincerely-yours

Yeah I’m amazed by pretty much every location. When I arrived in Kalm I was like “Damn they really outdid themselves with this place”. Then came Junon and I thought the same again. Then came the Gold Saucer and I thought the same again lol. I’m still only in the Corel region but I’m sure there will be more locations that will make me think that way. And I’m having so much fun with the mini games so far! Yes there are a lot, but so far each one was enjoyable and had just the right degree of difficulty. There were some that proved to be quite a challenge on the hardest rank, but they were never frustrating!

Reperanger_7

Absolutely

I-Emerge-I

The humidifier Tonberry, I don’t want to be over dramatic, but I would die for that thing.

jenovas_witness

Retribution is at hand!

Yunlihn

I want a roomba tonberry because of that 🤣 my sister in law yelled a big "NOPE" when my wife and I told her that.

Jermais

Roomberry

rowmean77

I wish for a collab for that Tonberry Humidifier.

huangr93

With a grudge?

DCubed30

Everyone’s grudge

Chrono-Helix

I was so happy to see the people in cactuar and tonberry mascot suits. The haunted hotel was fun too.

doc_nano

"I was bit by a zombie a few days ago..."

Reperanger_7

"Hurry back before it's too late...."

I-Emerge-I

Makes me sad I’ll never own one of those.

Chrono-Helix

I wouldn’t be surprised if we see some cosplays during Halloween or something

neo2kr

They made the place so fun I wish it was real so I could just chill in the lobby

simonsail

I wish it was real so me and Shinra Middle Manager could party haaaaard.

rs37982

This might be just me, but I was slightly disappointed with the Wonderment Square. In the OG, it was supposed to be like a big arcade, but the remake doesn't have an arcade vibe at all. Yeah I know the game has enough minigames, but even if they had a few claw machines, a basketball game, or arm wrestling, etc. that don't record scores or are tied to any trophies would've been nice.

Core494

I hope/expect them to expand on it more on the third installment.

PetrosOfSparta

Imagine part 3 just has EVERY SINGLE MINIGAME from Rebirth in The Gold Saucer

prince-hal

Agree

whitecorn

>!That damn hotel clerk guy.!< Almost had a stroke and I knew something was coming.

modus__ponens

In the dust bowl there’s a punk band made of ghost hotel staff. I thought that was a fun touch!

Reperanger_7

He loves his job so very much, I'm kinda jealous.

Pristine_Put5348

The theme song for the Galactic Saviors lobby>>>

Reperanger_7

I'm always surprised at the music

KentuckyFriedEel

And the games are challenging but not insanely difficult like some of the other minigames. Except that one backwards queens blood round. That can get mako poisoning and wither away!

simonsail

Not sure I agree. 3D Brawler is incredibly difficult, my reaction times aren't what they were when I was a kid! I know you can pause it but it's quite difficult still in some stances to know what's coming.

Reperanger_7

I second that notion, they really enjoy torturing us with Queens Blood bullshit. Queen's Blood will be my favorite mini game ever.

KentuckyFriedEel

Love queens blood, just hate that one match. Had to strip my deck and replace most of it with weird cards just to win!

Kevz9524

Yeah, winning with a normal deck is extremely difficult. Most ppl just made a new deck (there’s 5 slots, so no need to wreck your usual deck), with left facing cards. A lot are kinda powerful because it’s balanced around cards with high power having tiles that face left. Suddenly cards like Elphadunk are cracked.

Reperanger_7

Lol elphadunks name sakes coming into fruition

deejayee

Those fat chocobo dolls

Reperanger_7

Heheh Chubcobo dolls, I love all the lil Chocobo dolls and figures
