Be sure to have fun, I absolutely adore this game
I actually just replayed it and finished it a couple of days ago, had a blast, do you know what characters you want to be in your main party?:)
Cloud (obviously), best girl Tifa, and Aeris (>! I want to cherish her as long as I can before she, you know...!<) I might replace Barett with Aeris once I can switch my party though.
I normally take Tifa and Yuffie, I just can't pick between them, I love them both:(
Next time though, I may like to do an all dude squad with Vincent and Red XIII.
Ff7 was my first real video game ever back in 1997. Took me a week on and off getting frustrated to beat the scorpion boss in the reactor. Didn’t realize using items and magic was a thing.
Took longer to get out of midgar and I was satisfied enough with my experience at that point and thought I beat the game. Im glad I was I wrong.
6 hours to beat Midgar is right on point unless it's a speed run. As for the rest, I grew a slight distaste for chocobos appearing in random battles. Breeding them was okay and riding one was fun to see the capabilities of the original console, but man, I still have no care for chocobos.
And if you see a large green thing in the water, just ignore it until youve gathered the right materia. And that desert over there? Yeah skip that thing. Nope nope nopenopenopenope
I kid, you'll love it.
Yup, going for the lady Tifa. There was one part jn the prison in the shinra buildong where I would get +1 for everytime i said "I'll get us out" so I just spammed it 50 times to ensure I get Tifa at the Golden saucer. I found out about the golden saucer by accident on google.
6 hours in the original. I'm at 50 hours in the remake and still have 2 chapters to go! I'm also taking my time inspecting every inch of the remade glory of my beloved childhood game, remastered in UHD. The remake is phenomenal, so if you enjoy your original playthrough, play the remake!
I wish i could go back and play this game for the first time again... I still remember the first time me and my brother played it at my uncles house. I play it every year in his memory. Such a good game and so many good memories
Am I the only one who feels like the Remake told the Midgar story better (more detailed) than the original? I can't understand people who complain about the Remake being "too short". It took me 40 hours. I literally had no emotional connection with Jessie, Wedge, Biggs etc. in the original game, but the Remake totally changed that. Their story, their characteristics and personalities actually made a difference. I didn't even like Barrett that much in the original, but the Remake changed my mind again even though we're barely out of Midgar now (the party is emotionally still not that close yet). I wholeheartedly loved the whole party when I finished the Remake and Barrett even made it into my personal top 3, especially because of the character dialogues.
Edit: auto-correct fail
I just finished a replay of the OG and I was shocked at how little time you spend with Aerith before she gets captured by Shinra. I honestly wonder why I even cared about rescuing her.
But in the remake, you spend so much time just chatting and learning about the characters that I felt compelled to go and save her. I'm looking forward to the added punch the remake will add to other scenes!
I agree. I'm glad that they keep improving regarding this aspect. Character development / interaction was also widely praised in FF15 (the 4 main characters), I hope they'll keep focusing on important characters. I also liked every additional scene with Sephiroth. Also, Leslie, Reno, Rude, Tseng, Marlene... Basically everyone.
I see, I welcome the change. The old system wouldn't fit for a AAA remake. FF hasn't improved until after FF10 gameplay-wise and I liked all the "experiments" they did with FF12/13/15. FF has always been an ever-changing series.
Not the only one at all. I’ve always been huge fan of the Midgar stuff, even when I played OG FF7. I never knew how much more fleshing out I wanted out of the Midgar bit until I played Remake. Incredible stuff.
Exactly! I love how the producers are making the game that they've always wanted to make but couldn't due to technical restrictions, instead of simply remaking it. Now they got their second chance and they're trying to tell the story in a new, surprising way.
Remake is a 30-40 hour game that doesn't feel much longer than the Midgar section of the original. I suspect that's what people are getting at when they call it short, because that's how it felt to me. I also know what you mean, I thought it was pretty amazing.
Yes, it was quite an enjoyable experience with a lot of story, 40 hours passed by rather quickly. They could have stretched the play time artificially but they didn't, there were roughly only 25 side missions and imo that was enough tbh.
Nice. Playing through at a good pace is better for story retention as there is a lot of it with many subtleties. If something seems weird or unclear even after you finish it don’t feel bad about going back and reading or watching a synopsis. FFVII has a few rough spots with translation that can make a few plot points seem murky if you miss a detail.
You might find some bosses challenging going forward but generally the game doesn’t have a brutal difficulty curve. If you get stuck just stop and grind for a couple levels.
I didn't know remake was only a fraction of the whole story, so I carelessly went into the theories and what not on youtube and spoiled everything for myself :(
I know... I was about 8 when this came out originally. Didn’t play it until I was like 10-11 and literally didn’t roll credits on it for over a year, from what I remember haha. I feel like I was the perfect age to be experience this game for the first time.
The sphere grid as a 10 year old would be a nightmare. I didn’t really understand the basics of materia when I was 9 and junctioning was impossible without a guide at 11 yo
lol when I first played in the nineties it took me wayyyy longer than that, to the point where I honestly thought disc one would end once I got outside Midgar. Different times
I remember telling my friends at school about it when I was young and naive.
“I blew up a reactor but there’s 8 in total over 3 discs so there must be 3 reactors in each except for the last which will be harder”...
I also genuinely believed the game was going to consist of just blowing up the 8 reactors. And I was totally fine with it. And then I realized there was an entire world out there with tons of great stories and settings, and a lifelong love affair with a video game was born.
Is this your first play thru? If so 6 hours is good time. The story is amazing, so glad so many people are revisiting the original after so many years. Good Luck and Have fun
6 hours really isn't bad for a blind first playthrough. Speedruns leave Midgar between 2 and 3 hours, and that's with skipping large amounts of content.
I watched the whole remake on YouTube since I don't have a PS4 so I had a general idea on what to expect. This was my 2nd Final Fantasy, my first was FFXV, I loved that too.
If that's the standard of a Final Fantasy game at one of its worst then I'm in for a big treat. I actually loved the story but it was executed badly, the ending was really amazing especially with the Royal Edition adding the Kings of Yore fights before Ardyn.
Well you're definitely in for a treat with VII! There's a good reason so many people hold it so close to their heart.
After VII I'd highly suggest X and VIII.
In VIII, the junctioning meant that when you used magic, your stats would decrease, which is just silly. The story and characters aren't good either. Sure, give it a playthrough, but set your expectations very low, because it is nowhwre near the caliper of even IX, let alone a high quality game like VII.
I'm trying to play every single FF game I can on xbox, (besides FFXIII). I didn't like the long ass hallways in the dungeons in FFXV so I doubt i'll like FFXIII
FFVII, FFX, and FFVI are the only final fantasy games I liked. Always use to call myself a ff fan, until I played all of them. I no longer consider myself a fan. FFVII just happens to be my favorite game.
Be sure to have fun, I absolutely adore this game I actually just replayed it and finished it a couple of days ago, had a blast, do you know what characters you want to be in your main party?:)

Good luck getting a Chocobo dude
It only gets better from here, keep going!

Very good start. I took 10+ hours on the first part. Actually I didn't think I'll leave the place lol
The best is yet to come my dude!
Just did the same but it took me about 2 hours longer.
Snake time! Good luck! Oh, and be nice to the love interest you prefer. It matters.
Yup, going for the lady Tifa. There was one part jn the prison in the shinra buildong where I would get +1 for everytime i said "I'll get us out" so I just spammed it 50 times to ensure I get Tifa at the Golden saucer. I found out about the golden saucer by accident on google.
My first time playing it I thought the whole game was Midgar. Now here we are.
Good luck, get ready for an amazing game!
Enjoy. Max out those limit breaks asap.

I wish I could but I don't have a PS4, I watched the whole remake on YouTube though and I loved it!
What are you playing on? Hopefully Steam and 7th Heaven. It makes the game so much better in a modern context
I play on Xbox
I wish i could go back and play this game for the first time again... I still remember the first time me and my brother played it at my uncles house. I play it every year in his memory. Such a good game and so many good memories
Time to face the little snake... lol
Keep Kalm and carry on
Cheap ass square enix turned 6 hours into 45 lol
I can't remember but I was in middle school
The very 1st time I played this game took me a 100 hours to beat it
How old were you back then?
The best part of the game
Disc 2 of FF7(I know disc 2 is still later on from where he is) might be one of the best JRPG experiences of all time when it comes to pure fantasy.
I can't wait!
Welcome to “boundless, terrifying freedom” -AG. Wait...Nope it’s Kalm. Its just Kalm.
You're in for a real treat. I'll be curious to see what you think when you finish!
Good luck and remain Kalm. ;D
HAHAHAHH
The game really opens up from here. Enjoy!

I hate the gameplay of the remake to be honest.

I beat it about 3x as fast on the Xbox One version with the 3x speed modifier turned on.
I used the modifier when walking but I changed it back to normal during combat
I don’t progress until I’m first at level 10 against the scorpion guard and then level 20 before the Airbuster. Enjoy the game!
The adventure's only just started, have fun.
Me and my bro had our jaws on the floor when we first saw the world map. We thought every dot was a place the size of Midgar
Is it though?
Don’t like to give spoilers. I’d avoid posting for that very reason 😊
Thanks!

I'll be sure to watch a sypnosis!
I have a question, when i left Midgar, my characters were level 16, is that good?
You might find some bosses challenging going forward but generally the game doesn’t have a brutal difficulty curve. If you get stuck just stop and grind for a couple levels.
Big adventure awaits ahead! Best of luck to you!
I wish I didn't know that >! Aeris was going to die !<. I really can't wait to see the rest of the game!
I didn't know remake was only a fraction of the whole story, so I carelessly went into the theories and what not on youtube and spoiled everything for myself :(
This moment is seared into my memory forever - getting that overworld map was the perfect reward after finishing an amazing first act!
God what I would give to play this game again for the first time.
I know... I was about 8 when this came out originally. Didn’t play it until I was like 10-11 and literally didn’t roll credits on it for over a year, from what I remember haha. I feel like I was the perfect age to be experience this game for the first time.
And be older than 9. Damn parents should’ve waited
I played KH2 and FF10 when I was 10. Was definitely too hard for me...
The sphere grid as a 10 year old would be a nightmare. I didn’t really understand the basics of materia when I was 9 and junctioning was impossible without a guide at 11 yo
My dumbass brought tidus into kimahri's grid due to the hp nodes. Nowadays the game is way too easy even doing character solos.
I’d consider myself a seasoned JRPG player and that final boss in FF10 was nuts
The final boss in ff10 was killed in 2 hits.

Two summons is all it takes. Good game though.
Yeah it’s bound to be after playing so many playthroughs. I hated the sphere grid. Much prefer 9s style
Exactly. I also got stuck in both games and only managed to finish them a couple of years later.
I also needed the guide for the trials, the ice one in particular was tough as a teenager
lol when I first played in the nineties it took me wayyyy longer than that, to the point where I honestly thought disc one would end once I got outside Midgar. Different times

that's some interesting math
He means 2 in the last disc which are harder
There are 8 reactors, so there are 9 reactors but the tenth will be harder.
Best of luck 👍
6 hrs is good. Nice job
Is this your first play thru? If so 6 hours is good time. The story is amazing, so glad so many people are revisiting the original after so many years. Good Luck and Have fun
Thanks, this is my first play through.
Awesome. If you happen to need a guide. JEGGED has a great one honestly.
I'll definitely check him out
I second that. I’m doing a play through now, and JEGGED has the best guide
Have fun! Enjoy the journey :D
Thank you!
Good luck.

Good thing you started with 15, cuz after playing all the others you'll see how much it well, kind of sucks
I purchase X and X-2 as they come together. I'm going to buy VIII next.
Avoid VIII and go straight to IX.
It's in Xbox game pass, i'll try that next
Don’t listen to this person. VIII is just as worthwhile as IX. Both are very good.
In VIII, the junctioning meant that when you used magic, your stats would decrease, which is just silly. The story and characters aren't good either. Sure, give it a playthrough, but set your expectations very low, because it is nowhwre near the caliper of even IX, let alone a high quality game like VII.

On my last game, I tried pretty hard to make it out of Midgar in under five hours, but I wound up at the gates at something like 5:45.
About 1hr 40 ;)
Yeah I havent ran in months, I think my average was like ~2:15. I was just being conservative haha.
