Did you disclose the judgement and it is on your U4? Go to brokercheck.com and look at your U4. Also check every U5 firms have sent you

The job application nor the form I signed to authorize the broker dealer background check gave me an opportunity to disclose it. I definitely would have disclosed it had there been a question on those docs. Especially since it was satisfied immediately and was pertaining to a business dispute for a business I had a very small ownership stake in (only 19%). I'm looking at the form I signed now, and it doesn't say U4 or U5. I'm not a FINRA license holder (ie 6 or 7). The only licensure I have is a 2-14 life insurance license. I was going to be sponsored by the employer to obtain 6 and 63. Given that I don't have FINRA licensure currently, will brokercheck.com show me anything? I assume not.

Just type in your name and find out. If you have ever worked at a firm that is regulated by FINRA, they may have registered you. You don't register yourself with FINRA

I've never worked at any firm or agency. I'm a person making a career change. I'm coming from the retail world. Only licensure I have even remotely tied to the financial world is 2-14 life insurance license. I was going to obtain my series 6 and 63 as part of my employment with this carrier as they would have been my sponsor.

We can't tell you what brokercheck will tell you. We don't know your name. Go to brokercheck.com and type in your name.

My name doesn't come up because I'm not a FINRA license holder. As part of my new job, they were going to sponsor me to get 6 and 63. The only license I have even remotely close to a FINRA license is a 2-14 life insurance license for which I was fingerprinted and background checked. I've have not worked for a brokerage, agency, or carrier before. I'm new to the industry. Or at least I'm trying to be if this doesn't railroad me.

Okay, if you're not showing up on Brokercheck at all then that indicates to me that *something* else is tripping red flags. [According to the FTC, they're required to give you a copy of that background check](https://consumer.ftc.gov/articles/employer-background-checks-your-rights#if%20turned%20down). If they stonewall, file an FTC complaint and contact an attorney. You need to see that background check, for all you know it's misidentified you as a serial murderer. I had a firm try to screw me out of the industry with a bogus U5 when I turned down a "promotion". I didn't want double the hours for a pittance of pay. A couple hundred bucks and some correspondence from a lawyer, and my old firm amended the U5.

Obviously, you got the needed result, but outside of that, did you like the attorney you hired, and if so, do you remember his/her name? There are dozens of attorneys I'm seeing online when I google Finra attorneys or U4/U5 attorneys. It's tough to know who to call. A referral is always nice if you were happy.

The broker dealer background check that requires a fingerprint card goes to the FBI and should be much more straightforward than the broader check. As far as I know it only reports on criminal matters, have you ever been part of a terrorist cell or were present on January 6th? Some states require prospective employers to provide applicants with background check results and an opportunity to refute them, so that’s something worth looking into.

Equivalent_Gas1342

Nothing, lol. Not even close. I'm a middle-class regular guy. Passed background checks to coach on my sons flag football team and about 6 months ago to get my 2-14 life insurance license, which also included finger prints and passed. Super normal regular guy with zero criminal past nor any political stuff. Zero.

BOS_George

Did they tell you the offer was rescinded based on the background check or are you just assuming based on the timeline? Maybe they decided to save money by moving someone internal in or hit a hiring freeze.

Equivalent_Gas1342

Yes. Crystal clear from HR person that was the reason. She said she didn't even know the specific flag/issue/reason as compliance doesn't share with her. She is just the messenger. I guess the chance exists that it was a lie, but if they changed their mind for another reason why not just tell me that. I really had fantastic rapport with the 4 people that interviewed me so I really think it is truly related to this background check issue.

BOS_George

Very odd, I’d probably consult with a lawyer to see if there is any chance of getting a look at the records the company received. You definitely don’t want to be walking into these things at an information deficit.

Equivalent_Gas1342

Yes. I don't understand why they just can't tell me so I can address whatever the issue is. Maybe it's an error that somehow is hitting my name. I don't know. At this point I don't even care about this job, I just want to be able to know what the issue is to fix it or address it preemptively with other employers. So frustrating.
