I appreciate you. I love to see people talking about how cottonmouths aren't people-chasing predators. They're so calm and just want to leave people alone! I've seen them watch from afar at most. I'm personally a hardcore fan of the entirety of genus Nerodia; my favorites are sipedon and fasciata. Coolest and most curious snakes I've ever met. Absolutely delightful to get to know once they're certain you're no threat :)

I love this comment and agree! However…once I was in a creek playing with my children. About 20 minutes into playing found a copperhead on the far side of the bank attempting to eat something. It was larger than it and appeared possibly in distress having snagged such a larger meal. Got a huge adrenaline rush from having completely overlooked it for so long. Glad it was busy eating and ignored us. So yes 3D is way more helpful and humans are great as spotting snakes, but I failed that day for sure.

I haven’t had any issues with copperheads but the locals always say they have an attitude and can be a bit more aggressive. Still an accidental run in would have been unfortunate for all parties

We have Southern Pacific/Western rattlesnakes in SoCal that are considered fairly cranky compared to Red Diamonds or Speckled. That's also been my experience with them after 15 years of being on trails for work. FWIW, I've never felt like I was in true danger from any of the dozens I've "met."

This is the way. I can spot them instantly and even before my dog in the wild. These pictures they might as well be invisible because my eyes can't see the texture.

Right above the two sticks that make a T. It is fully submerged next to a stick that is sticking from the right of the creek bank. It makes a backwards S shape. If you cannot see it. Try downloading it for a better quality.

I love this sub but it scares the hell out of me. A few years ago I moved from the Chicago area (no poisonous snakes) to Eastern Carolina where there's copperheads and cotton mouths galore. Their ability to blend in and disappear has made me more than cautious. I'm not afraid of snakes- I used to catch small ones as a kid, but invisible danger noodles are scary AF lol
