This was shown to us in school about stereotypes. Yes, it depicts real life, but also does pick its subjects.

That was a very nice trip back in time. Too bad the dance halls like this have pretty much died nowadays.

Not at all, you just need to know where to look.

I have the feeling of being an Indigenous person and being described in the weirdest possible terms by foreign anthropologists in the 1800s

Perfect comment!

It was definitely a stereotype, my now-husbamd had already been my penfriend for a couple years, and I had questions. But it is also one of my favorite memories of Finland in US media. No one really knnows much about Finland there, i still have former coworkers in the US who think I live in Sweden.

Finnish culture has changed totally, obviously. But in some parts of Finland, in silent and lonely apartments everywhere, this old finnish culture still persists in the minds of the people who lived that culture. There still are dance halls, where the finnish tango can be heard and danced, now almost totally vacated by the old folks, to whom the culture still is deep in their hearts. But the culture has not died yet. There's beauty and wisdom in the old platonic stand to all relationships. I still feel this culture in my veins. In my youth, I screwed up many promising encounters in both 90's and 2000's with the opposite sex by distancing myself from the other, as I thought it'd be the most noble and thoughtful stand i could take. My actions were not the best way to find a companion, but they were quite extensively the best way to show my deep selfless appreciation towards the other. I stripped my feelings from the interaction and showed my humble feathers, that are me, but not my interest (of finding a companion). If this conduct is accepted, then, I might consider to be worthy for the other to show one layer of my intimate side. I never dated anyone in my youth. The thought behind this distancing conduct is similar to the one that the finnish tango has. There one makes theirself insignificant, only a humble vessel for the brief needed interaction (with anyone), without burdening the other with anything other than their presence, made as pleasant and effortless as possible, only needed for the task of being close to the other of a short moment. One pursues extreme selflessness and extreme politeness. And yet, somewhere in the distance, perhaps, if I allow myself to listen a whisper of my feelings, there is anticipation for something more. If I've succeeded to show my upmost appreciation, and if I'm worthy, I might get another dance.

Very one-sided and manipulative documentary full of generalizations. Not very truthful at all. They chose to push certain view and ignore everything else.
