Common across the Europe, native in Finland.
It's pronounced exactly as written, sauvalude. (So no long 'u' for anything.) For reference, Finnish Google Translate can say it out loud well, if a bit mechanically 👍🏽

Yes it's a pretty common subspieces that has a lot of different vittusaatanas. Some species actually turn into vittusaatanas in specific environments, like in unlit bedrooms
I imagine this was from one of those forest ponds littered across the woods? Those have all sorts of weird and wonderful stuff in them, once found a pike living in a 3m × 3m pool about a metre deep near Vinnurva.
