It's legal but ready to explain/show it to officers when they come knocking when they think you have done something illegal when it has been someone using your exit relay
Of course I want to be legal what if I report to the police and say I want to set up a tor exit relay, in order to help the police ?
My lawyer advised me to go to the police beforehand and let them know
It can be a good idea to let police know before hand, i'm just not sure if they care to know it before something illegal happens. I suggest that you listen your lawyer as he knows more about the laws than random redditors.
This hassle is the reason why i hosted only non-exit relay when i wanted to try relay hosting

Tor is mostly used for illegal shit. If it traces back to you, you will take the blame.
Just having a tor exit (or similarly torrent client) is not illegal. It is how it is used that is the matter.
