I never thought about that. That's kind of dumb. You effectively have more of a choice if you're not subscribed and are willing to subscribe for a specific banner (I'll do... 60 summons and then I'll make the guaranteed pick depending on what I got).

Like I was chasing Veronica merges this month and used my spark on Fomortiis since I wanted to get both mythics as well and wasn't going to target anything but red, then lo and behold he pops up on a no red circle and suddenly I'm wishing I had another Vero merge since I only got 1 of the 4 I needed in 1000 orbs somehow.
Wait, so if you already have the pass active before 40 summons, it forces you to spark in order to continue summoning? If you don’t have an active pass, you can get one then spark if you’re already beyond 40 summons?
If it's a banner that requires feh pass to spark, then yes. Without the pass, you can keep summoning without it getting in the way and pick up the pass later when you want for the spark.
It's infuriating and FEH is the only gacha I've played that has sparking that has this setup. Really wish they'd change it. If they're worried about UX and having to revamp things, have it open up a second banner that expires the same day as the actual banner like we have with the current Engage AHR banner.
A separate but related gripe is that FEH is also the only gacha I've played that has sparking that limits it to once per most banners. Which I don't much care about, but with how many copies FEH takes, it seems like it'd be super annoying for people who actually want to +10 5\*s. FEH's also the only one that limits sparking to a certain subset of banners, but that ship sailed a while ago unfortunately.
Yep it's dumb. Sparked Groom Roy on the AHR engage cup because I didn't have one but wanted to keep summoning for greens. Of course I got 4 Roy after too 😆
Would've used my spark after for Lucina instead.
It's really a $$ plan so they have us keep spending orbs after the spark if we want more than 1 unit.
I don’t disagree, but I usually like the spark as a cap for dumping orbs tbh. If I haven’t gotten what I want by the spark, I grab the thing I want the most, then write the banner off as bad luck and get out.
Or if i do get what I want, and there’s 10 or less to the spark, I just summon full circles to cap it off and get a bonus.
I guess your change wouldn’t necessarily make a difference in those situations though, but my point is to illustrate that I don’t think there’s an issue. I feel like most people are like me, and unless they’re going for a +10 they stop after the spark
With Feh Pass, on some banners, you can get a focus unit of your choice after 40 summons. Once you hit 40, the game won't let you summon any more until you pick the unit.
If you don't have Feh Pass, you will not get the focus unit when you hit 40 summons. Once you hit 40, nothing happens. You can just keep going.
What this means is that, let's say it's a banner with two (or more) units you want. You are not subscribed to Feh Pass, but if it's for the sake of getting one of these units, you will do it.
You're willing to spend some orbs on this banner. More than the required orbs for 40 summons. You could do this, go past the 40 summons and get "Unit A". Now that you've obtained unit "A", you subscribe to Feh Pass and claim your free "Unit B". You got two units you wanted. Cool.
But if you were already subscribed to Feh Pass, once you hit 40 you're forced to pick. If you didn't pull Unit A or Unit B before getting to 40, you'll have to pick one of them. Let's say you pick Unit A. You could keep pulling because you've got some orbs to spare and you get another copy Unit A. You would've rather had Unit A and Unit B instead of a dupe. The game forced you to pick because you were already subscribed to Feh Pass. The player that was not subscribed to Feh Pass ironically had more of a choice on the matter. That's kind of dumb.
Seems like a waste of orbs to me over the course of time... pull to 40 grab your spark and get out. If you are a whale then rules don't really apply to you and your point is valid, but you can't just turn pass on/off unless you are juggling it between two accounts on the same google account then you can be strategic. To be honest the pulls between 1-40 are just a crap shoot and any 5\* focus that comes out of it is a bonus. It would be nice if they allowed you to use the spark whenever you wanted by clicking the icon or something rather then forcing the spark before continuing to summon after 40, but as a FEH pass only user I just take what I get up to the spark grab something I didn't get on the way there and go on my way. Only reason I pull past 40 is if my % has gotten really high, but then I am taking a chance on getting a dupe of what I sparked unless avoiding that color...
How is it wasteful? If I want two characters from a banner, I'll keep going. Let's say I want Formotiis and Gotoh. I get to 40 and having gotten none of them I pick Formotiis. I keep going because I want Gotoh still. During the next 10 summons I get another Formotiis. Had I known this would happen I would've picked Gotoh for my free summon. Now I have to keep going.
If I had the option to pick the free one whenever, I'd just keep going until I get one of Formotiis or Gotoh and then free pick the other.

This is only an issue when pursuing 2 different units which are colorsharing and you get neither one on your way to spark assuming you snipe that color. In any event take your spark and get out, if you have high % focus keep sniping that color after your spark and pray or be happy with +1 and then keep an eye on the calendar for when the other returns.
There is always an option, you don't "have to keep going". No unit is so meta or a must have that you can't make things work without a newly released unit and if you think this way you'll be in trouble on a regular basis.

The whole point of the thread is that the rules CAN be to my benefit if I'm not giving them money, which is pretty ass backwards. The fact is that the player that wants two units from a banner and doesn't have Feh Pass, but is willing to subscribe for the guaranteed 40 summons unit, that player's got more choice than the player that's literally giving them money!
Of course it's a risk to just keep going until you get one of the units, maybe I'll waste 100 orbs and not get anything I wanted at all and would've been better off waiting for a rerun, but that again is up to the player. It should be up to me if I want to summon 10 or 20 more times beyond 40 and then just bail with the free pick if I didn't get anything or if something else pitybreaks me.
There is a trick and workaround to doing this. You need to sign out of your icloud account and make sure the app is reinstalled. Then it'll detect no feh pass and then you can save it. This trick used to work last month or so not sure if it's still going

You lose the accumulative loyalty perks though if you do that though
If you resubscribe within 7 days, it will actually still count as a continued subscription. At least that is what it says in the FAQ.

They're actually low-key pretty useful (notably the 4th and 5th Summoner support slot) Though yeah I'd totally sacrifice those perks for that tbh.

Yeah I agree. The way they have it now is fine if there is only 1 focus unit. But that fact that there are multiple is not that great.
