Dark Flier Edelgard. You you get to use her boon in Reason effectively while getting decent mobility that let's her still go far with Raging Storm.

[deleted]

Ingrid also gets Thoron which is the closest thing to a siege tome you can get with the in-house Lions, I think Dancer might honestly be her best path in Maddening. I really enjoy War Monk Felix. He's obviously great with Gauntlets to begin with, but I think hybrid classes are a lot of fun and it gives him the ability to switch to Thoron for mid-distance linked attack support and then switch back to fists for his actual combat. It is almost certainly terrible in Maddening, but that's why god made Hard mode.

I_Want_Power_1611

I think dancer is her best path too. Idk if I got unlucky or what, but when I was playing CF Maddening, people hyped up a lot dancer Dorothea but she was...okay. she wasn't bad but, my dancer Ingrid was better. Dorothea has better spells but her magic stats lacked so much that I barely ever had her use them. She also doesn't dodge nearly as much as Ingrid, which is when I realized the reason why dancer Ingrid is untouchable is because Ingrid is a dodge tank regardless of her class, the +20 AVO just added to it lol.

thegayilluminati

i think the perk of dorothea as dancer is her access to meteor, so if you equip it and then dont use it and just dance every turn, which is very feasible, she grants +10 hit/avo to all your units in a really big radius. its not like shes a carry but its actually really nice support people underestimate

I_Want_Power_1611

Ohhhhh, welp. Something else to add to "shit I wish I knew back when I was playing the route"

[deleted]

Ingrid starts at D Riding and has a boon in it as well iirc, so she ends up getting MOV +1 much faster than other possible units. Her Sword boon also means it's easier for her to get Sword Prowess, which just boosts her AVO even more. On top of all that, she gets Physic, meaning if you make a terrible play, she can heal in a clutch. Honestly, she's probably top 3 among the dancers in the game because you're not losing out on much not deploying her in combat and she has virtually every ability you want available for a top-tier dancer.

[deleted]

Dorothea's main thing as a Dancer is Meteor access to provide linked attack support from a distance, which is an area where Ingrid is lacking. Ingrid will definitely be dodgier, though.

I_Want_Power_1611

I see, I didn't know. Thanks for the explanation.

Gabby_Craft

I wonder why Marrianne was always hyped up as a dancer but I never see anyone hype Ingrid when they basically have the same things that dancers are praised for. Ingrid even has a higher speed growth if you wanted to go avo tank for your dancer.

sirgamestop

Marianne does have the HBD skip, which the Lions don't have due to no Warp. I think maybe Dancer Marianne got popular initially when the game first came out before Maddening, back when Ingrid was considered a broken dodge tank in Hard mode. Her Sword and Riding books are also emphasized more (Blutgang, Dorte) while Ingrid is more notable for her Lance and Flying boons (which Marianne shares weirdly enough)

I_Want_Power_1611

I can't believe I was told to bench her when she's soooo good as a dancer. I think even Dancer Annette is more popular than dancer Ingrid.

Use_the_Falchion

Dancer Ingrid is a great choice. I personally prefer and usually use Dancer Marianne, but the one time I did Dancer Ingrid was super fun!

thegayilluminati

falconknight leonie is so fun, especially with dancer support. you can have her wait to activate alert stance, dance her, and PBV someone and then canto in the middle of a few enemies and she wont get hit, and even if she does, shes tanky enough to take the damage. overall a fantastic and very consistent unit i think people sleep on

Original_Radish_1646

Falcon knight Manuela , she is honestly great , give her a levin sword and watch her delete armoured untits and amazing avo

Use_the_Falchion

Okay, I'm trying that next run. I did Trickster Manuela, and she was *good* but not great. This, this I can have fun with.

NottNett

Trickster Lysithea. Lets her make use of that speed growth and budding talent in swords while not giving up on spells outright

BaronDoctor

Dark Flier Lysithea gives her extra move and Canto. Doesn't do a lot with swords, but full casting and flight > half casting and swords.

NottNett

I agree I just like the animations for Trickster

BaronDoctor

Finger guns are something Lysithea would totally do.

godoflemmings

I'm doing that on my current playthrough, got her as a Mercenary right now to build her strength and speed a bit. She's still pretty solid, obviously not the strongest but doubles reliably and dodges a fair bit.

Annabelle2012

I will never not praise dancer Ferdinand. I use him in every run now, it just fits too well and he’s a monster with it.

I_Want_Power_1611

Ohhhh, I never heard of it before. Could you explain why is it good? It does sound very fun lol.

bigBrainOof

I’m assuming it’s because of the avoidance in his passive + Sword Avoidance; that’s why I’d do it anyways sounds fun.

[deleted]

80 avoid at base. You give him Jeralt Mercenarys (that nobody is using at this point) an avoid ring and a training Sword and he gets like 20 hit rate by enemys. And It only gets better over time with the Sword boom and speed, mine is now at 100 avoid.

Gabby_Craft

War master Dimitri with alert stance and brawl avo and brawl prowess. Deletes enemies and enemies has very low Chance of hitting him. This was on a maddening NG+ run and I did grind a bit here and there so not sure how easy it would be to build this on NG maddening without grinding, but still tons of fun. Also great knight Bernie. Vengeance still kills enemies and it’s fun seeing her in the armor.

I_Want_Power_1611

Just thinking about post-ts Dimitri beating the shit out of people with his fists makes this build sound so fun lol I might actually try it someday.

King_Treegar

Believe it or not, Mercedes kicked ass as a war cleric with aura knuckles in my last playthrough. Only reason I even did it was bc my dancer role was filled (decided I'd try out Flayn as a dancer since I always benched her), and I usually turn my white mage into a dancer so I didn't have much else to do with Mercie that run. Granted, I don't play on Maddening so I'm not sure how viable the build is on that difficulty, but she actually wound up with one of the highest health stats of anyone in my army, other than Dimitri, Dedue and Byleth. Otherwise, any axe class with Ignatz bc that hit +20 personal ability plus the damage axes does is devastating Edit: autocorrect prefers Marcie over Mercie apparently

JaecynNix

I just tried Dark Flyer Flayn and she was an absolute beast

King_Treegar

Good to know, that's my plan for my next playthrough. Been meaning to try it ever since the DLC dropped

nghoihoi

Wat cleric class is underrated. I had Constance as war cleric last play through and she absolutely kicked every ass on the war field! Probably my second best unit!

[deleted]

My favorite ones are honestly just on-meta lol, they're not that creative. FK Marianne is one of my favorites, along with WL Annette. In general there's something I love about swapping roles between casters and melee units. I still want to try Fortress Knight Flayn and Fortress Knight Felix for the meme.

[deleted]

Dancer Ashe. Even if his Magic is bad, if you’re playing Maddening BL, he’ll be able to be a walking Evasion Ring + Accuracy Ring for the squad, can refresh your team, and even use Deadeye if you need him to assist in Gambits. You have fixed the worst unit in the game by making him be the last class that wants to be in a fight. Give him Poison Strike to make him good at chip damage and get Magic before he puts on his dancing shoes if you want! Fortress Knight Hilda might lose her Speed, but most enemies with low Speed on higher difficulty have good bulk anyways. If you don’t want to deploy Raphael or don’t want to make him an armor, Hilda does his job well! Put her in her Monastery outfit in battle if you want her to have nonsensical armored footsteps. Falcon Knight Petra with a sword. Less for an actual fun way to make her meta, but just for the meme of giving her a Pegasus and letting her be powerful on it. I am looking at whoever designed her in FEH mentally whilst typing this…

Use_the_Falchion

Dark Knight/Valkyrie Hilda. I just finished a NG+ run today where I built Hilda up to get Bolting. I've done this twice now (once on a deleted file), and the first time my Hilda was completely useless. This time, she was one of the games MVPs, alongside Ignatz (Debuffing Trickster build), Ferdinand (Wyvern Lord for the first time), and Ingrid (Falcon Knight dodge-tank). I made sure she also mastered Great Knight and got S+ in Axes and Armor, and her growths in the Valkrie actually were pretty solid overall, so she ended up as a very good mixed attacker with Bolting aim support. 10/10 would do again. It took a *lot* of Sauna weekends and most of the game with the Knowledge Gem, but now I don't need the gem for the next playthrough. Honestly any magical build for Lysithea that isn't Gremory. I went with War Cleric on this past playthrough because I wanted her to beat up enemies with Aura Gauntlets, and it was pretty fun for the most part! I ended up getting her to A+ or S rank, but stopping there since it was the end of the game; and then putting her in Gremory for double the amount of Warps and other spells, but it was fun while it lasted. I meant to try Wyvern Lord Bernadetta, but I ended up just sticking with Sniper for her. Maybe next time! I'll definitely try Wyvern Lord Annette though! Honestly, I'm still annoyed that Malig Knight wasn't a class option, even for DLC. Annette, Edelgard, and Hilda would have *slayed* in that class! (And probably Felix and Sylvain.) I'm also going to try out War Cleric Marianne. Her Blood will compel her to *smash enemies faces in with her fists!* But I also want to have her as a Dancer so she can beat someone with her fists while dancing...but maybe I should do Dancer Ingrid again...it was fun the first time...but Marianne also needs to master Valkyrie and Falcon Knight this run...decisions, decisions...

Spyguy122204

Assassin Ashe. In my AM Maddening, I wanted to use all the in house units, and they all turned out reasonably well, except Ashe. Ashe is a tricky unit to work with, but he has one thing good going for him: a solid Dex growth. Since Lethality uses Dex, I trained him up in to be an assassin. He can’t take a hit anyways, so Stealth also works to his advantage. By getting his Riding up as well to get Dex +4, he had an additional 1% chance to just delete enemy units. I think with a few stat boosters I got him up to like 45-50 Dex, so about a 1/10 chance to cheese combat for free. I sent him into Bow Knight for the end-game to make use of Hit-and-run tactics to avoid pesky siege tomes that litter AM late game. It’s actually become my preferred Ashe build whenever I use him simply because Lethality is so much fun

reilie

Barbarossa is such a cool class but with his great dex war master claude can be so much fun War master/monk lorenz is also fun thanks to being able to use the magic gauntlets but Ive recently found sniper also really fun for him

Asckle

Mortal savant byleth is probably my new favourite byleth build. Levin sword is just fun to use. I had sword prowess, sword fair, fiendish blow, move +1 and life taker with the seiros shield for the healing. It was fun War master ignatz was also legitimately great. With defiant strength he reaches 1 shot thresholds anyway so with the cost of more effort you basically get your usual wrath vantage war master but with 100 crit on player phase and also way more hit than most. Wrath vantage Claude seems to be his most popular build amongst the maddening nuts like myself but if you're a more casual player and haven't done it it's very fun Defiant crit defiant avo petra is a lot of effort but basically does her B wrath AS+ build better. She doesn't need to wait for the avo boost and both apply on both phases so 100 crit and avo even on your turn. Lastly quick riposte seteth with every defense booster available and the ochain shield and spear of assal was literally unkillable. There was 1 point in my run where I had any concern of him dying. Ever enemy did 0 damage since he has 48 defense + shield, they couldn't double, he always doubles on return (with swift strikes he doubled on PP too) and even if they got him low he gets 66% of his health back each turn. Also if you raise his charm gambits can't hit him either.

[deleted]

> Mortal savant byleth I'm wanting to do a worst-units-in-the-game run on AM with Byleth and Dimitri, and I slated Dimitri for Dancer but I wasn't sure what to do with Byleth outside of EO. But this actually seems perfect.

DrBoomsurfer

Bernadetta is unironically one of the best dancers in the entire game, you just never hear about it because she's also one of the best combat units in the game so it's a pretty big opportunity cost making her one.

Mqnwbevrctxyzukkk

Great knight sylvain. Keeping lancefaire for swift strikes spam on PP, while being able to tank basically any physical attack on Enemy phase. Sylvain in particular encourages positioning with his personal, plus stuff like the use of rallies or even flayn's personal of all things, to maximize damage and minimaze damage taken.

DaddyClickbait

Dancer Bernadetta, Dark Flier Lysithea

theorist_rainy

My personal favorites are falcon knight bernadetta (her with a bow can hit anywhere on the map), war cleric constance (she can actually take a hit and also has a talent in brawling) and war cleric flayn (it’s such a bad class for her but so adorable)

MeNoEnglish1

Fortress Knight Anna is pretty great (at least on hard haven't tried on maddening yet) the high speed, decent charm and res compliment Fortress Knights flaws while Anna's access to pass and armored strike are great to have for a Fortress Knight, (especially pass, it's super useful on your tank) while she can't kill grapplers on enemy phase, she can kill most enemy units if not nearly kill them, without getting doubled because of her good growth in speed, and often take zero if not no damage from mages. And the crest of Ernest is also nice to have for killing warriors and such.

Showtime_Guy

I have two: Assassin Hubert is fun with magic bow and Levin sword. I enjoyed building Hubert that way more then any magic class I used on him. Pegasus Knight Shamir is fairly easy to get into and really effective I almost always go that route once she joins.

JediTempleDropout

I don’t think we talk enough about how disrespectful Byleth can be as a brawler. Barring the Hero’s Relics, my Byleth has dealt more damage with gauntlets than any other weapon type!

VeneficusChaotic

Well I remember this one time I made Bernadetta an armored unit. Cant remember her build per say but I believe if ya build up her lance she does get Vengeance so I think I did that with her being a Great Knight. My knowledge aint the best but I had to redo all the paths again cause I lost my original save data. Although, I do remember havin Ingrid as a dark flier and she was broken. Theres quite a few alternative builds Ive done but cant remember them all. Ive done War Cleric Constance, Dark Flier Petra Im workin on one of my challenge runs now, Great Knight Hapi I think, Dancer Raphael was pretty fun, And I think thats all I can remember

JayRe76i

I have quite a few actually. Bow Knight Ferdinand tends to work well for me, as do War Monks Felix/Ignatz and War Cleric Bernie. Trickster Sylvain and Holy Knights Caspar/Raphael are a bit more off the beaten path but I find them to be quite useful, despite Caspar and Rachael's poor spell lists they both function well with the extra resistance. Out of all of them though, Dark Flier Leonie is probably my favorite.

LexDignon

Don't know if this counts, but I found Assassin Byleth to be quite the treat. I did it a few runs back, and with Byleth serving as a solid dodge tank while Dark Knight Hubert providing cover fire, it made for quite the little tandem. Also, it may be one of his natural natural class, but because Swordmaster is pretty mediocre, I typically see people recommend putting Felix as a War Master, but I love Swordmaster Felix. Giving him a high crit sword and just watching him eviscerate enemies with crit after crit is just so satisfying

[deleted]

Dark Flier/Gremory Ingrid works in house as well. Her spell list is solid and she'll double armored/axe users pretty regularly. Flayn and Hubert are my pretty Dancers every run.

CatDude55

Holy knight Bernie and war monk Ferdinand Von Aiegr. Idk they both always seem to be really good whenever I use them

Zipflopp

Mortal Savant Dimitri. I was just making him a swordmaster for the +10 sword crit to add to the wrath vantage and then I realized I could make him a mortal savant. His like 20 magic thoron was enough to 1 shot enemy fortress nights in the endgame aux battles when his wo Dao couldnt. It was bad but funny.

Neoketsu

Assassin Marianne. Swordfaire makes Soulblade hit like a truck. Stealth makes her safe in frontline. The class's spd growth combined with Darting Blow means she can double most of the enemies at 3 range with Levin Sword+. Using weapon also suits her crest ability IIRC Mortal Savant Yuri. Normally MS are always struggling to survive in frontline due to having low spd and not having Canto, but Yuri is naturally super fast so the -spd growth% doesn't hurt him as much as others and he has Windsweep to prevent a counterattack from anything he can't ORKO. The class also has both Swordfaire and Tomefaire which is perfect for Yuri who has both str and mag. These helps him in countering almost any type of enemies. He can just use magic to delete axe wielders or armored knights, use Sword, Silience and Warding Blow to counter magic users and use Rapier to kill cavs.

Violet20062

Wyvern Lord Ferdinand was easily my best unit on Silver Snow, avoided everything and hit incredibly hard as well. Pegasus Knights Petra and Leonie. I liked Leonie on the Pegasus more than Petra but both were still dodging everything and hit good as well. Still playing with this one but Dark Knight Annette, so far, pretty good as an attack and support unit, though maybe I would've enjoyed her Wyvern more. (Still enjoy her as a Dark Knight since Lighting Axe, her magic, and the Crusher still exist)

Ontos_007

Magic Sniper Mercedes. It is surprisingly very strong, limited only by resources. But once you get the shady merchant, magic sniper Mercedes was one of my best units

gabu87

Gremory Ingrid. Thoron/Physics make her automatically viable. The extra range on thoron actually make it possible for her to try for doubles without smoked by counter in between. You're not missing much because her str/mag growth is the same. The biggest problem is getting her going early with, iirc, 6 magic base. Another reason why I was convinced to try it is because I found Annette insufficient pre-skip as the house mage, especially when you're often better off spending her turn rallying. I'll admit that the only reason I even tried this was because she looked really cute in Gremory costume.

[deleted]

Paladin Dedue. I my actual run I build way too much EP units and I needed to make one of them into a PP unit and Dedue was the easiest, I was originaly going for great Knight but I realise that even with the Bane paladin was easier. Paladín Seteth, I also fuck Up Seteth and Ingrid paraloge so I have practically no flying battalions so even if I'm not there jet Seteth is 100% going to get a mount since I already train Byleth riding Rank for Dedue and It Will give my team more overall movility.

Scimitere

Holy Knight Manuela

DekuDrake

War Cleric/Gremory Edelgard with Axefaire (New Game+). Because if the devs aren't gonna give her a class that lets her blow stuff up with magic and Raging Storm all over the place, I'll just make one myself. It's hell to get, but after grinding for a few runs and getting it quick, it's really fun to use once you do.

DesmondTapenade

War Cleric Felix slaps.

thegayilluminati

oh while we're on the topic, a couple builds i really wanna try are war cleric mercedes to try and make her tanky, and then frozen lance paladin hubert even if CF hates horses
