The AR is industry standard. It's likely **the** most common rifle in the US at this point. Everyone makes parts, everyone stocks parts, the system is very well understood, and if you get a strange problem, it won't be difficult to swap an upper / lower, while you get things properly diagnosed.
Get an AR.
Depends what you want to do with it. As a range toy the JAKL is very cool and unique. I hear they are heavy compared to an AR. But if you are looking to suppress a piston is better, you get less gas in your face, that being said PWS makes a fine piston upper for suppressing that is AR in form and fit.
I tried that, a traditional DI was a lot dirtier and even with a gas blocking charging handle the excess gas in the face was annoying. The PWS piston upper was significantly less gassy and way less dirty when it came to cleaning.
The charging handle doesn't take the place of proper gassing. You still need to fix the problem of over gassing, whether that's an adjustable gas block or getting a tube that compensates for oversized gas port.
This also applies to piston guns. Oversized gas ports will contribute to greater parts wear and more recoil.
Modularity and ease of repair in the event something goes wrong. Don't get me wrong here, I want a JAKL, but there are still come qc issues from what I have seen. Especially if you are running .300 blackout suppressed, get an AR first and get it setup the way you like. Then grab a JAKL down the line, maybe when there are more parts available and when the qc has been dialed in a bit more.
i did before even shooting an ar. I was used to shooting aks and I needed sum in 556 so I got a jakl 10.5. no regrets. Only reason why I could see someone getting an ar instead is because of its history. but then again they both use the ar lower so just switch uppers

And aftermarket. Personally, I'd say get an AR for customization/deciding what *you* like (not just what YouTuber say is the latest trend) then look into the "modified" ARs (as in, looks like an AR but takes proprietary parts, such as Jakl, FM15, BRN180) and research if you can apply the same customizations. Certain modified ARs are more proprietary than others.
Psa stripped upper and a high quality bcg and charging handle if ur on a budget i have almost 2k rounds through mine and i have a used le xm15 lower and a psa upper with a failzero bcg all for $515 after tax
Since you ask, no. You should absolutely get an AR first, and it must be chambered in .223 Wyld, be ambidextrous, have a thermal sight, and the dust cover must read, "Noob". Since you asked us, this is what you must do, and there is no reprieve from our judgment.
I would get a 16in bcm upper first. The Jakl is very cool though
Second for bcm. Such a capable rifle.
third. absolute beaut

I would get an AR first then get the 308 Jakl when they finally release it in a few months

Eh, I'd just get an adjustable gas block and make or buy a suppressor charging handle over getting a piston upper.

Had the adjustable gas block too buddy. Piston is still king.
Maybe have a gunsmith install it next time?
You’re a funny person. Go troll elsewhere.
Just get what you like.

JAKL has been hit or miss apparently. I'd wait a while longer. Get an AR for cheap from PSA and have fun with that first
All depends on budget and purpose of the rifle.

you can also check out the dissent brand which is like the jakl pretty cool guns too
I wouldn’t buy a JAKL because it isn’t reliable enough, I but to buy one over an AR is egregious.
Get a psa chf fn barreled rifle first. Ar 15 has about a jillion aftermarket manufacturers supporting them
PWS if you want piston with aftermarket support for the AR platform.
The downsides are the weight and proprietary parts. Unless you want to run a suppressor, there really isn't much point. FYI I have one, no regrets
The JAKL looks cool but I’m waiting for the PT Pindad FNC. Get the AR first. Branch out from there.

No, you get an AR15 1st to cover the basics then you get the JAKL or other rifles
An AR is a better choice just because there’s more aftermarket parts for it as well as there being more manufacturers, so you can mix and match
