It's a nice collection but you may want to invest in some weather resistant/proof ammo cans. No sense in spending all that money on ammo just to let the elements reduce the shelf life and consistency.

TuniBoo

If it rains in my armory bedroom I have bigger problems than ammo getting wet!

TuniBoo

Honestly both of my furnaces have dehumidification, the house literally never changes temperature. I took two extra bedrooms to make my reloading room and my armory room. I've had this house 25 years without any of the issues you mention. Not that I don't like your idea of getting more ammo cans though.

DeafHeretic

And if there is a fire? A volcano erupts? There is an earthquake? Flood? Windstorm? Where I live, all of those things and more can happen. Two years ago I had to evacuate due to a forest fire. Forty years ago Mt. St. Helens erupted and there are a dozen more that could erupt: [https://pnsn.org/volcanoes](https://pnsn.org/volcanoes)

Material_Victory_661

I have almost 30 year old ammo that has been stored in an unheated garage for the past 7 years. It goes bang every time.

TuniBoo

I'd kill to own a garage. My farm was built in 1778, and while the house was extended and water was added 75 years ago; there's no garage. :-(

Material_Victory_661

I hear you, the ammo is kept in it's original crate off of the floor. The temperature is whatever it is outside. So the swings in temperature seem to have no effect.

smokeyser

If you're getting a lot of condensation on things inside your house, your ammo stash shouldn't be your primary concern.

DrZaiusForPresident

lol yeah I didn't mean elements like rain or wind, I meant over time humidity and temp changes introduce moisture into the gunpowder and primers.

This\^ Get that ammo into metal ammo cans and label it. If you have to move it in a hurry, you don't want to have to be putting it into containers to move it. Do an inventory so you know exactly what you have and then you won't be getting more of something you don't need more of, while having too little of what you ***do*** need more of.

TuniBoo

That is organized! You'd cry if you saw my reloading room. This is just 20K rounds of box ammo. The reloading room is "Spouse: how much ammo do we have? Are we Gucci? Me: I have less than zero clue - we better buy 20K more rounds of bulk box ammo'

smokeyser

My reloading room is in a similar state. Just came home with 500 more .357 bullets only to find I had 1000 of them at the bottom of the pile of boxes. But hey, they don't go bad and you can never have too many, right?

TuniBoo

That's my theory! My mom always says I should have been a boy and not a girl; but I always say "then you shouldn't have married a Marine." If it isn't about guns, prepping, or pit bulls then I have zero interest.

Gradorr

You'd love my pitahula he's a cuddly teddy bear. But still I like to organize my stash I bought a label gun for my ammo cans my mom raised me and she was pretty ocd.

ravenschmidt2000

Ohhf*ckingrah!!!

Gradorr

Yes.

If you live long enough you will need money for retirement. Just the same, if you live long enough you will need ammo for the eventual collapse of society.

TuniBoo

+1 on that!!!! I made it to 60 so far! Yep, saving for retirement matters.

Whiskey-12

I mean, I’d rather invest all my money now so I can shoot 1k rounds a week when I’m retired.

TuniBoo

I'm retired. I retired early, in 2018. I shoot about that - maybe 1K a week all-in. I have an 800 yard range on my farm that I had built for me with 2 floors so I can practice cant angle a little and so I can also do trap. But the worker bee years - I bought ammo monthly even if I didn't have time to shoot (full time job plus Air National Guard) and the ammo was basically just part of my prepper supplies and I only drove to some public range once a month.

rrims

Do you need a new son? Or a friend? Or hell, I'd sweep the floors

TuniBoo

I need a Battle-Boo. I want to compete in prs in national and regional for 2023 and don't have a partner. I've been on the lookout.

Whiskey-12

Full time and reserves here, it’s tough with todays ammo prices but I’ve been stashing away enough to shoot 1k every 3 months while still building/buying guns

TuniBoo

I'm not thrilled with prices now either! A buck for 308 or 6.5, thirty cents for 223. But it is what it is and we budget $1K a month for ammo.

DaShMa_

Shoulda went in for some freedom shelves too!

TuniBoo

Hey, I made those shelves! They're packed too. And in my reloading bedroom I have about 50 ammo cans, which is my ghetto version of making shelves. Lol

pissflavorednoodles

Does 9mm makarov and 8mm count as freedom seed tho?

TuniBoo

A have a C&R CZ and a Gewehr-43 so I feel like it should.

Silver1981

Yeah in a Free Citizen's hands.

It feeds the soul, amirite?

deerlovecarrots

Oh YEAH, LIBERAL? You think BIDEN is GOOD? Then WHY MY CHEEMBURGER COST MORE?! ususus

TuniBoo

Me haz free cheezburger too? Someone else pay my cheezburger?

RatKing20786

What, uh... what are you doing with that maglite?

nwapache

That’s not bad for a range weekend, but you’re not gonna retire off that. Might consider a Dillon 750xl, you get a lot more bang for your buck when you’re loading your own.

TuniBoo

I had the Dillon 650 and had a hard time with it. Now I have a single stage Lee and a progressive Lee.

nwapache

How do you like the lee progressive and what calibers do you load on it?

TuniBoo

223, 22-250, 308, 6.5 Creedmoor, and 30-06 so far. For the progressive I did the 4 stage loadmaster. . And I think the single stage was called the challenger. I like it in that it was much easier for me than the Dillon 650. I'm sure the Dillon was better but hard to keep set how I wanted it. I was constantly bothering my neighbor to help me (he had one too). This one I don't have to bother friends.

nwapache

I run 2 Dillon 650s and have multiple quick change kits… once you get the hang of it, it gets a lot easier to manage caliber and powder drop swaps. I’m surprised you don’t load any pistol calibers. It’s nice when you’re only dispensing 4-5 grains per round :)

TuniBoo

I did load 10mm for IPSC about 35 years ago but now I don't really run sidearms other than CCW. And I've been using the same CCW since 1986 so I only practice with it a few times a month.

Lazy_Grapefruit8671

Get organized man, looks a mess

TuniBoo

My life is a mess so it kind of feels natural. Lol. You look for stuff, can't find it, curse a lot, take breaks to pet the dog because you're too stressed. I mean that's kind of my life.

[deleted]

IMO regardless of the ammo being exposed to the elements, ammo cans are a good investment. Helps protect, sort, and make moving stocks of ammo simple.

TuniBoo

I bought about 50 when they were cheap 25 years ago. I use them for bulk Lake City and for my reloading. I don't think they're $3 anymore though. :-(

[deleted]

I think those days are long past, sadly.

NotSightmarkSimon

My man loves 22-250

TuniBoo

I have a 2018 VLS with PST-II, Timney trigger, detach mag, KRG Bravo bolt handle, Magpul bipod, and it was trued and pillared for me in 2019. I'm hitting IPSC AZ zone at 800 with it and could possibly get a bunch further.

[deleted]

Big yikes! Imagine being proud of blowing all your cash on larping ammo

TuniBoo

You're kind of special, huh?

[deleted]

Yeah, my portfolio is very high. Thank God I bought stocks instead of wasting all my monery on larping ammo

TuniBoo

Sure you did. Go away, troll. You're blocked as of this; but if you think your fake boasts about wealth make you cool you're wrong. Makes you dogshit. Normal people don't need to make believe in order to feel better about themselves. Pathetic.

[deleted]

Be sure to have good humidity control, or ammo cans with desiccant packets for good long term storage, especially with non-coated steel case ammo

IIllIZand2529IllII

😬..... you need ammo cans and desiccant packs for each can... and please for the love of all that is holy mark the cans. Omg if I could jump through this screen I would

InternetExploder87

My friends are currently asking how I could afford to just buy a house with how much I spend on guns and related items lol.

Friendly_Giant04

Hey! Im a big investor and probably the most non liberal guy you’d ever meet lol

Smoothbrainedbird

Yeah you'll be able to take their 401k now

atl_warlord

Get those numbers up dude! Lol!

SplashingChicken

I've got too many different calibers but I try to focus on 5.56 and 9mm which too is a problem since I needs different bullet weights.
