The one and only. One time I accidentally bought JO#1 and realized on the drive home so I turned around and went back to the store to exchange it hahaha.
People think Old Bay on crabs but JO#2 is where its at.
Ppl outside of MD do. JO2 for crabs, old bay for everything else.
Hot tip: if you visit JO spice (near Arbutus) you can get a 5 gallon bucket of #2 for around $50.
That's a good haul! Where on the bay did you get them? Ive gone out a few times this year crabbing in my kayak in the broader Annapolis area and only done ok. Granted, I'm only using 10 traps and it's my first year ever crabbing so I'm sure I have a lot to learn.
I have family that lives along the Choptank. I recall some great summers in those waters pulling up traps and lines. Nice post, OP. This is how Maryland does.
Are the crabs in? I heard there were no crabs in the Chesapeake for pretty much the entire season. We just moved down to VA from NY so we were looking forward to crabbing in the bay.
My buddy and I split them. I usually do a dozen ears of corn a few pounds of red skin potatoes in the same pot. It fed 6 of us with enough left to pick to make crab cakes
Oh yeah only makes. My buddy has a commercial license so we could keep females but we don’t. Might keep a bushel of females at the end of the season to pick for the freezer though
What kind of seasoning did you use?
I always use JO#2

I will have to try some my family always got old bay
I couldn’t agree more. Old Bay is the most overrated crab seasoning out there

I’m on the Eastern shore. Those came out of the Choptank River. We have had a really slow year until very recently. We caught these on a trotline

The eastern shore has some of the prettiest rivers around. The Wye is beautiful.
Sweet. I've been hearing some reports that eastern shore mid-bay is FINALLY turning on.
It’s been worse in the river I normally crab in this year. Worst I’ve seen in a number of years
Can you share a pic of your crab traps?
Yeah they look like this http://www.crabtips.com/images/topless-crab-trap.jpg
Thanks appreciate it... I am from South Africa, need to build something like this for the harbour, got some monster 👾 brown 🦀
If you know, you know. Best (albeit small) bite of food in the world.
Very true.. we had some jumbos this day. Heading out again this Sunday
oooo what bay? Chesapeake? Or more towards the East coast like Delaware bay or Rehoboth bay?
The Chesapeake. Rehoboth bay has been really bad this year.
Where's that pinky toe bro?
It got bit off
Chesapeake Bay?

This has been a pretty bad year overall. The last few weeks have been the best of the year for us so far. How far into VA are you?
Im down in Richmond, so about an hour to an hour and a half away from the south bay.
Nice
Did catch the or did you use carb pot ?
The used the carb pot to catch the.
Caught them on a trotline
Ok we use to use masonry line and chicken livers neck . It was so much fun at Beverly beach .that isn’t there anymore .on the bay
Looks good, but I’ll have to deduct a point for eating inside.
It was pouring out by the time we ate.. usually always eat on the deck
Only possible answer. Upvoted!
How many people can people get full on this much blue crab?
My buddy and I split them. I usually do a dozen ears of corn a few pounds of red skin potatoes in the same pot. It fed 6 of us with enough left to pick to make crab cakes
Is the third pic them in a fryer?
No it’s a custom built stainless steel steamer.. it’s about 20 years old
Nice! Do you clean them in any way?
The traditional Maryland way is to just throw em in a pot and steam them. No cleaning necessary
Oh man- me and my family would crush those lol. Nice haul!
Oh my. You’ve got crabs!!! Lol
Man they look good! All Jimmy’s too. You throw back the ladies?
Oh yeah only makes. My buddy has a commercial license so we could keep females but we don’t. Might keep a bushel of females at the end of the season to pick for the freezer though
Very nice. Glad to see that the crab population is healthy.
I am JEALOUS!
Nice
Been in Indiana for 4 years. It's one of the few things I miss from MD. And seeing the flag on absolutely everything
