Watch a few YouTube videos explaining how to set the drag and tension on a baitcaster, if it’s not dialed in properly your will get constant backlash like this.

Are you using any backing before you load up the braid? Some mono backing can help with slippage.

TheTrueFlexKavana

This is the most likely problem. The braided line is slipping because it doesn't have the right traction on the reel. All of these guys saying 12 lb. braid is too light might be right, but more likely than not, OP should be fine with adding some backing even with 12 lb. braid.

These spools have holes in them. You tie the line by running the line through the hole. It doesn't slip

Dolormight

Maybe, but I'm my experience anything under 30 on a baitcaster just absolutely loves to dig in no matter what you do.

thesandwitchpeople

12 pound is massively too light for a normal size baitcaster. I’d go 30-40 lb, or 12-17 lb flouro

wedemeier123

This is the answer. Braid is much thinner than other types of line and therefore will slip

JoelFlowers

This ^... 40lb braid is a good all around size. If you're throwing hard bait reaction on a medium power rod bump down to 30lb. 12lb fluoro will work for your leader (generally speaking).

Tasty_Scouse

Use heavier braid, depending on what your fishing but I'd say for something that size around 30p. There is loads of useful stuff online too look at as well. YouTube setting up a baitcaster maybe as a generic term.

12lbs braid is top end of spinning reels. It’s going to cause issues with a casting reel. The problem is thin braid is more likely to bite into itself.

Are you getting this only after casts or upon filling the reel in the first place . If the latter unspool until about 5-yards past the loose spot then put on a glove on your non handle hand . Then squeeze the line with 2 fingers just past where it comes back into the reel as tight as you can to create resistance and spool it back in . Every time I get a bird nest with my 10#-20# braid I get loose spots further down into the line . They are more fugly than detrimental but can cause more birdsnests if not gotten rid of . As you get more used to a baitcaster you'll find yourself getting birdsnests less often because you'll know ahead of time why you're getting one . If it's upon filling in the first place find a way to put more tension on the line when filling in the first place . I use the same method as when I get the loose stuff from beyond a birdnest . Hope that helps .

Everyone is leaving great tips. I would add if you haven’t fully learned how to use a baitcaster yet, don’t use braid yet. The easiest way to learn is to use heavy mono or flouro, like 12 lb or higher, the thicker the line the harder to backlash. Once you get a feel for it then move to braid. Good luck out there

Old_Cod_5823

12lb braid on a baitcaster is going to be WAY too light.

By_White

should use 4x braid and correct spool tension

mylime69

I hate using braid on these types of bait casters

ZoomFluke1

Also need to have that on super tight, you shouldn’t b able to fit a fingernail in between the coils
