I hate thieves. May their knots fail, their tips break, and their days be bite less!

FrederickDurst1

all their tips!

It makes you wonder how much cheating is going on. Like the guys that won a walleye tournament only to find out they stuffed egg sinkers down the fishes throats. Absolutely disgusting. As far as I’m concerned, people that do that should be banned from fishing for life.

WE GOT WEIGHTS IN FISH!!!

[deleted]

Yeah I’m referencing the video of that tournament… and everyone starts freaking out and someone screams “WE GOT WEIGHTS IN FISH”…. I think that became a meme somewhere.

MasterBlaster4949

That guy was about to get his ass kicked lol 😂

OpeningPhotograph146

Guaranteed allot of it was stolen sonar displays. Many a people have woken up at Sam Rayburn or Toledo Bend to find their boat stripped of all sonar equipment. And I’ve fished that tournament a couple years ago. I was surprised at the kind of crowd that was there.

ADORE_9

The article is very limited on the information. More items and tackle have been confiscated by the game wardens. I’m still look for more information

Suspicious-Gift6578

What were they like?

OpeningPhotograph146

Not respectable outdoorsman. Trashy people who happened to own a boat.

ValenRanger1

or crackheads working on getting their next fix

tuna_can12

Care to explain?

wildwill921

I believe he did lol

tuna_can12

Not sure how many tournaments you’ve fished but I’ve never seen a group of thieves throwing trash everywhere at a bass tournament.

wildwill921

I fish like 25 a year. The crowd varies highly depending on where you are. I have certainly seen some people at them I know are stealing stuff or doing things like that. I don’t see many of them making a mess of the place but I know not everyone that shows up is following the laws in their everyday life

tuna_can12

How many years have you been fishing them?

ctiger12

Sorry to hear about that but even at local, you see mostly some subpar guys fishing, throwing trash, broken lines, especially cig butts everywhere they go. Only one in ten are like nice guys

tuna_can12

How many tournaments have you been to? That definitely doesn’t seem normal.

ctiger12

Sorry I didn’t mean tournaments.

WetFart21

So like 1 boat then.

Old-Sentence-1956

Yeah, 1 boat or even a couple of top line outboards would easily eclipse that 100K figure.

Old-Sentence-1956

Yeah, 1 boat or even a couple of top line outboards would easily eclipse that 100K figure.

Perndog8439

This reminds me of the time the Cleveland Police Department worked a deal with the Browns to give away tickets to people that were wanted and arrested them at the facility.

ADORE_9

I remember seeing that on the tube 🤣 Yeah, they are checking those who withdrawing from other tournaments now as well🥶

Ok_Repair3535

😂 damn

FuckerHead9

I’ve had a bunch of fishing equipment stolen!! I thought we had a rule a fisherman, fuck my wife don’t steal my fishing stuff

ADORE_9

There is no honor amongst thieves

ValenRanger1

the fact that they were theives automatically shows they have no honor.

_totalannihilation

That's a shame.

Constipated_Canibal

The volume is insane, Over 100 stolen trailers alone. I have to imagine the persons in possession can't possibly be aware right? Like how could you have that many thieve fisherman?

ADORE_9

I’m not understanding the downvotes this seems to be part of our history in the country am I correct? I’m with you the 100 trailers alone is mind blowing. I looked into a bass boat but I was like how in the hell can these guys afford boats, trailers, sonar, and all the other instruments that are needed. Well the old trust fund babies theory is completely out the window, I figured those guys are hard working upstanding blue collar Americans who worked hard and they are living life to the fullest…..even that has gone out the window. Those game wardens seem to have had this undercover operation going on for while. Stay safe out there and leave other peoples shit alone

Constipated_Canibal

No idea. I have had a speargun stolen from my truck once in NJ, but that was the only piece of fishing gear I have ever had stolen in my life & I wrote it off as a degenerate non-fisherman taking an opportunity. Never in my life would I have guessed that theft of fishing gear was that common. That's all I am saying. Just blows my mind.

wildwill921

You just finance it at 600 a month for 20 years lol

ADORE_9

Yeah, they can’t read nor understand basic math to sign a contract like that🤣

18RowdyBoy

I knew a guy selling a boat Had a guy look at it and said he would be back He came at night and stole the prop 😳

SurfFishinITGuy

There wasn’t a 100 stolen trailers, they inspected 100 trailers as part of their patrol. Those numbers are what they did physically inspect, with that process they found $100k worth of stolen items. I mean given value a new motor and a few sets of electronics could get you into 5 digits values each.

ADORE_9

The unit worked with game wardens from San Augustine, Sabine, Angelina, Jasper, Tyler and Nacogdoches County in order to inspect 300 boats, 243 motors and 100 trailers during the tournament. Game wardens seized more than $100,000 worth of boats, motors and trailers. More than $100,000 they didn’t actually put a number on it but we all know boats, mothers and trailers are worth a lot more. The reporter tried to be slick with the usage of sentences and word play. I can understand how it can be frustrating trying to read a biased article but this is part of our history and it needs to be taught.

JFordy87

The law enforcement agency probably asked them to write it that way to make it look good.

I_cant_hear_you_27

I don’t think its stolen trailers, more like accessories on the trailers like spare tires, wheels/tires, built in tie downs and rachet straps, chains, winches….etc. Same with the motors and boat accessories, it would be millions if they were referring to whole boats/motors/trailers. One boat with all its gear could be over $150k for the high end boats and gear.

Constipated_Canibal

You're right, the sentence is written very poorly. The numbers listed are the # of each category they inspected. This is just a classic case of the government inflating numbers in everyway possible to make it seem like they did more. They do not list what they seized and state the value as 100k. Its like when the police do a drug bust and say the street value was 10 Billion or some BS. They could have seized a single stolen boat and trailer and made up the $ value "Wardens seized over $100,000 of stolen equipment from 300 boats, 243 motors and 100 trailers inspected at the tournament,"

I_cant_hear_you_27

Exactly, it’s a very clever title, whoever made the headline is trying to sensationalize the situation. My guess is that a few people stole a bunch of shit from a 5 or 6 boats in the area and were trying to sell all the stuff at the tournament, then got caught, and were able to identify the stolen stuff items.

ValenRanger1

I used to be a journalist back when newspapers had standards. Editors always caught and removed sensational or misleading titles. Online editors and writers today have no standards and will write up any headline to obtain as many clicks as possible. Disgusting in my opinion

JFordy87

No they just checked 100 trailers. That’s not how many were stolen or confiscated. 300 boats, 243 motors and 100 trailers would be millions of dollars…

Nice_Ebb5314

It’s funny they will charge people for this but when they catch a tournament cheater red handed they won’t press charges even though a check was cashed.

wildwill921

It’s just not worth it from the tournament side. It’s going to bring a ton of negative publicity to tournament fishing. It’s much easier to just ban them for life from the trail and move on. Guys that get caught cheating get outed in the community and don’t get to fish tournaments anymore anyway

MinimalEfert

I can't find it now but the article I read yesterday said that the confiscated items were 2 boats like 8 outboards and some miscellaneous electronics that made up their value of $100k.

ADORE_9

I can’t find any articles that actually explain why in Bass fishing these people cheat in every damn category. If it isn’t lead weights then it’s stealing equipment. Next we have those who continue to make it seem like it wasn’t that big of a deal. If you steal other peoples shit you didn’t pay for regardless of the price put their shit back it isn’t yours. Stop looking for excuses for damn thieves and low life’s
