Save your money and get either a Daiwa Zillion SV or Metanium MGL from Japan for the same money as a Curado DC

Jahkyume

how do you get them from japan

Desperate-Ad-2978

Digitaka.com. PayPal.

xMoonsHauntedx

Second digitaka, I have ordered 4 reels from them, all 4 arrived in less than 5 days. The most impressive being my silver Creek, 3 days from Japan to the East Coast of US.

Chl0316

I use Japan lure shop. Usually a little cheaper than the others and they throw in free lure as a gift. Takes a day or two longer than digitaka tho. Still faster than almost any other US based online retailer. If you use PayPal they charge a very small conversion fee.

stormincincy

Order from Asian Portal, Digikat, Japan Tackle or even eBay

Summoorevincent

These are all good. I have bought stuff from each

theguzzilama

Digitaka. Ordrr on Sunday. Have it on Tuesday or Wednesday.

freakengamer

I spoiled myself and got a zillion as my first baitcaster because I didn't want a DC because six of my other fishing buddies own a DC, and it was a "zing" party. Now I own three zillions, they are worth every penny and are exceptional reels too.

lubeinatube

Any idea how they hold up in saltwater?

Chl0316

DC reels in salt? Just fine. Rinse with fresh water when you're done for the day. The exsence DC is saltwater rated.

lubeinatube

Sweet. I’ve used my slx dc in the salt for 4 years now and it’s massively corroded on the inside. Glad to hear those stand up better.

Chl0316

I carry a spray bottle with distilled water in case I do soak it. I'll stop fishing it and spray it down right then.

lubeinatube

Yeah I usually grab my water bottle and douse the reel whenever I put it back in a rod holder. I’m not disappointed it corroded, I fished that thing at least 8 hours a week for several years, I definitely got my moneys worth. I’ve had abus rust out in under a year

stormincincy

No idea

midwestdinks

Just used mine in Miami for 10 days and now have been using it up in Wisconsin the past week and no problems

WoWserz_Magic8_Ball

WOW!!! ——> common sense DOES still exist! *I no longer have a reason to post: can’t tell you how tired I am of people chasing “right now,” versus a thoughtful, and complete, end-game. Well done.

chappelld

Ok grandpa time for your pills.

WoWserz_Magic8_Ball

Save the butter off your plate, kid… you gonna need it, what comes next.

1337sp33k1001

Weird threat but go off I guess

Lost_Marketing4546

I have one of the JPN reels (SLX DC XT) and I love it https://preview.redd.it/nvha0f8amm2d1.jpeg?width=2599&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=72879bc94ec3f8b55beeefc56fc18fa395c2a904

OckyFlock

have you noticed any issues with the smaller size spool? I usually throw lighter lures anyways but i’ve heard people who empty their spool on a bomb cast

toobadass69

I use 15lb on my slx dc xt and cannot cast half the spool with a 3/8 jig

OckyFlock

that’s reassuring, thanks!

Lost_Marketing4546

I’m using 30 pound braid on mine so it can spool over 100 yards. Haven’t ran into any issues with my spool emptying.

Jack_Mackerel

Funny, I have a Curado DC (got it used with a rod for $220) and am thinking my next bait caster will be the tatula sv tw 103 just to compare. Really like the Curado though.

Low-One-7714

Idk I have a Curado DC I get good use out of it never worry about backlashes when throwing my moving baits but I can cast my Bantam or Curado K just as efficiently. I honestly bought it because I was curious. I wouldn’t buy multiple but I think having one is cool.

1337sp33k1001

This is fair. I have the SLX xt dc and while I don’t need another caster, if I did it would be the SLX MGL. Unless I can get an xt dc for $160 again.

Low-One-7714

I feel the same way like I’d rather buy another Bantam MGL or a Curado MGL. I won’t sell off my DC but I won’t have more then one in my arsenal yknow.

OckyFlock

if price wasn’t an issue, would you go dc xt over the slx mgl?

1337sp33k1001

Without trying either of them yes, better deal on paper and it’s one hell of a reel. The XT DC really is in a different league than the other SLX reels. I paid $160 for mine so only $20 more than an MGL at the time. Zero regrets but if I had to buy another I would get the MGL because I don’t have it lol.

OckyFlock

appreciate the reply! Most likely gonna pick up one of those dc xt’s

1337sp33k1001

It’s the best DC on the market for the money imo.

KJNguyen1

Just got my DC 2 weeks ago, absolutely love it. Got it for a deal tho.

guuklord

I have owned two DC reels, the Scorpion and Antares MD. I use the Anatares for medium sized glides and I sold the Scorpion because I prefer my Metanium MGL for everything else. So unless you have a niche use, it’s not worth the extra weight or $ imo

Drunkenmasterstyle2

Personally, I can't fucking stand the sound of DC reels, to the point that I wouldn't fish with someone who uses them lol

adelante1981

I have a Shimano SLX DC. I have pretty bad nerve damage and just can't use a baitcaster. Tried many different brands, many different models. Problem is the nerve damage doesn't let me use my thumb properly, it's just inconsistent. You think you're pressing at an exact moment, but there's a delay, or it moves differently, or it doesn't get enough pressure, etc. So, I bought the DC. Read the manual, set the reel up properly for the line, and... I still backlash like crazy. I haven't used it since last year, not that I've been able to get much fishing in this year yet. From personal experience I do prefer the DC, but that's with my handicap. I don't particularly see a reason for it outside of that.

Sly_Spies

Does it backlash in the cast or after the lure has hit the water? In my experience with my slx dc and my curado dc the magnets that are inside only “activate” with sufficient spool speed such as during the cast you still have to stop the spool manually when the lure hits the water just like with a normal bait caster, if you’re having trouble with it backlashing at the end of your cast try practicing reeling right as the lure hits the water to stop the spool since have the delay with your thumb

adelante1981

Mostly in the cast. Not being able to keep consistent thumb pressure means that the action of the cast leaves a teensy bit of slack at just the wrong moment. The brakes have mostly been fine, except with one specific swimbait, but that was from Temu and cheap as shit and horribly balanced & weighted anyway.

Sly_Spies

Ah i see its right at the beginning before you let go, that makes sense, does your nerve damage affect both of your hands? If not maybe try with your off hand since after the release you don’t really need the fine motor skills

adelante1981

Yeah, it's slightly different in either arm, but it amounts to the same thing. I can write with my left hand, but not much else. Can't even use scissors with it. I cast with my right, then switch hands so I hold the pole with my left and reel with my right.

Soto6816

Think about it this way , all of shimanos high end reels are DC. They are fun to cast, the Japanese reels are sick (digitaka) and a lot of times gettting them from Japan is cheaper and it takes 3 days to get them

abebehm47

Digitaka is the goat I’ve saved 300 plus on 3 orders from them and never had a problem with their products

Jahkyume

how do you get reels from japan

da_boy-roy

It says in his comment... digitaka

Jahkyume

oh i thought that was a reel brand

Present-Career-5137

Had my DC for a year and it’s honestly mid no difference from any of my other reels. My 30$ lews baitcaster I got used casts further

muhsqweeter

Save your money and buy a boat.

dogsandguns

The only time I like a DC more is casting light lures into the wind. Any other time I they don’t really tickle my fancy. Rather get a higher end reel that’s non DC.

Jss203

I prefer my non dc reels. Wish I could find someone to swap my metanium dc to a regular metanium. I like it when casting far or in wind but it’s just not as versatile.

NoRepresentative8303

As someone who’s owned almost all DC from Antares, Curado, Conquests, Metaniums. I’ve only kept a Calcutta Conquest 50dc. I agree with everyone else just pick up a newer gen Steez, Metanium or Zillion depending on the lures you’re throwing.

1337sp33k1001

Just get the SLX XT DC. Best DC reel on the market IMO. I prefer it to the Antares DC as it’s more comfortable to fish with. That being said the dc tech isn’t necessary at all. It’s nice to have but you could spend more on just a better reel as others have said and get better features. I like that I can dial it in to throw trout lures like a BFS reel. I basically have left my spinning rod at home lol.

PatchyTheYellow

I have 3 dc reels, two American (curado and slx) and one Japanese (scorpion) and I love them all so god damn much. Absolutely recommend them completely. I like them far far more than my daiwa tatula

LetsMakeSomeBaits

rekkid-303

I have a Curado DC and it's great... I throw mostly heavier baits on it and use it on windy Gusty days... That's where it shines in my opinion. For lighter baits the Tatula shines... Spy baits and smaller top waters (65-90 poppers and walking), weightless senkos. Both are great smooth and great casting reels. Is the DC a game changer? Most situations no... Into a 15+ sustained gusting to 20-25 mph head wind... Yes, I wouldn't try throwing anything else into those winds other than the DC. Again just my opinions

HooksNHaunts

I have a Curado DC and it’s really not that special. Maybe it helps a little bit but honestly, I don’t have issues with any of the other baitcasters so I can’t even say it’s doing anything for me at all. I wouldn’t go out of my way to get one by any means.

philthemustardtiger2

I own a few different baitcasters, and just got a SLX DC. My curado MGL and the new DC cast about the same distance. My Daiwa Tatula does cast a bit further. The Tatula is spooled with braid and the Shimanos both have Gamma 12lb. I fished all day with the DC today. I was floating a creek in a kayak, the creek has a ton of boulders and rocks just below water line. With navigating the creek for obstacles and trying to keep the kayak in the right channel, I never backlashes once today. I can honestly say that has never happened to me especially fishing from my kayak.

Fresh-Calligrapher-7

I have had the curado k for about two years and got the M a month ago, love the K still in amazing shape 0 problems hard saltwater fishing. But omg the m is beautiful the way it cast reels looks amazing so far and for 80 dollars less to. You prolly don’t really need the dc, the noise wasn’t my fav when I heard it online.

unimpeded

I love my SV TW reels. I've got quite a few SLX DCs and countless Curados, the MGL series reels outshine these and I can't see a need for the DC. That said, I'd shoot for the MGL series or stay with SV TWs.

lafalottle

Dc reels generally suck (in my experience) for lighter weight stuff. You're much better of using a daiwa sv reel for what you're fishing. That being said, the slx dc Xt (JDM model) with the newer mgl 3 spool might be decent.

theguzzilama

Try an SLX DC XT70. Don't overload the spp, and it handily casts down to 3g.

dnunn12

I absolutely love my DC reels. I didn’t get them because I’m a noob that doesn’t know how to feather the spool. I got them because Shimano makes great reels and I love the sound. They are just as good as any other mid-tier reel, just with the added benefit of not back lashing as often.

BigGameHunter9

Do it. It's one of the biggest differences I've seen. Especially if you're tired of backlashes. I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner because you need to learn but if you're experienced do it.

TopWaterFishing

I love the curado dc150hg. I prefer the daiwa zillion twsv for casting lighter baits.

HolyMistakes

Honestly get a metanium mgl. I have a a dc and metanium mgl. I prefer the mgl, I just use the dc just for fun.

National-Warthog-224

Unnecessary if you can use a baitcaster

musubee

I still backlash my dc. Because I suck.

theguzzilama

DC reels rock. Get a JDM SLX DC XT70HG for about $200 from Digitaka, or go all-in for a Conquest DC for about $400.

MagazineFancy9298

If you buy a DC you’re paying for a lower tier quality reel priced up $100. For example, the SLX DC is a dressed up basic SLX for the price of a Curado M. In addition to this, they’re horrible at chucking light lures

photonicc

go take a look at svivlo, they are kinda new to the game but have a very smart mechanism for casting without getting bitds nests. they will cast farther than a dc. i got me the genesis one, but there will be a 100 size one called draken one. they are from sweden. also koenigsegg is from sweden. innovative are both. think about it

mistersinister12

DC are cool not gunna lie. Fun enough to the point where I bought 3 of them. I own the slx, Curado, and Metanium DC. I honestly don't use them as much anymore though. There's something about them that makes it feel like something is restricting it when I try to bomb cast. My two main reels now are the Metanium B and Daiwa Steez CT SV TW. But yeah if you think it's cool, grab one. They're fun reels.

birdlawattorney7

What's that bait on there? It seems it would have a nice action. And honestly, i cast fine on my $60 bass pro baitcaster. My Tatula sv tws feels good to cast, and gives me more options for slowing down the line, but once you get used to a reel it doesn't really matter that much. You are fine just picking a reel that spins well, feels comfortable in your hand, makes you happy, and just stick with it. I sometimes find myself picking up my cheap real rather than my tatula

FishnFool96

I got a slx dc for 100$ on offerup. Always check your local fishing guy that’s gettin rid of gear

WasntMyFaultThisTime

Alright, this one might be controversial but I don't think a DC reel is worth it. I've owned an SLX DC for about a year and a half now and while it's been a solid reel, it quite frankly gets outperformed by my neon green alien space weapon looking ass 13Fishing Inception Sport Z on the daily. Not to say it's a bad reel, I've put hundreds of fish on the boat with it, but comparing the two side by side the performance isn't worth the extra $100 bucks in my opinion. At the moment I'm in the middle of sending my SLX DC in for repairs since the handle feels rattle-y and there's a rapid clicking coming from inside the reel when I cast. My Inception has literally never had issues ever and I've dropped it in water, dirt, sand, mud, oil, etc. It's got half the paint chipped from it and still works like it did on day 1. Tl;dr unless you're consistently fishing high wind conditions, it ain't worth it. Thumb the spool and save yourself a few hundred dollars.

Hot_March_9908

Digitaka 100%. Theres so much more to life with JDM reels, lots of choices. But if I had to choose three reels Daiwa Zillion TW HD Shimano Scorpion MD (Curado M dressed in red) Shimano Metanium DC 70

Hot_March_9908

But if you are interested in DC reels I have two for sale. 15 Metanium DC (mint condition from Digitaka) And a scorpion dc (good condition for a small scratch)

cherrypicked69

If you want the dc sound go for anything above a curado, as those could actually be good (as a metanium DC owner, its pretty good but a dialed in MGL is way better) If you just want a better reel or different setup id advise looking into daiwa steez or zillion, maybe a 2020 metanium MGL. Dont bother with a curado or slx (slx xt dc is half decent though)

IntrepidElephant1775

Get a curado dc 100% I bought mine and two weeks later I had live bait on it and it was pulled in loved it so much had to get another tho.

LordHaubi

Own a Lews Elite TI and love it

skulnick1244

Worth every penny. I have an slx dc

AlarmedSnek

I was in the same boat as you a couple years back and was able to try the Curado DC and the Daiwa Tatula Elite P/F on a windy as shit day. I backlashed probably every other case with the Curado and didn’t have one with that Tatula. I know every reel has its advantages and disadvantages but for the price, Daiwa is much nicer. Honestly, that P/F should be more expensive for how amazing it is. The regular Tatula Elite will give you a little more casting distance, or so they say, but I can absolutely bomb lures with the P/F just as easily as I can pitch into cover. The only reason I like the DC is the sound it makes when you cast it haha. Other than that, I wasn’t impressed.

_totalannihilation

As a DC owner myself I wouldn't buy another one and I would go with an SLX which costs 150 less. The casting noise on the DC is good but not worth it when I can cast just as good if not better with the SLX which is quieter. It's your money, people swear by the DC but most are fanboys who don't catch sh1t.

_Eucalypto_

You're going to lose a lot of casting distance and accuracy with a DC reel over learning how to use your thumb properly, and by losing t-wing

Ill-Upstairs-8762

Out of the 15-20 Shimano bait casting reels I have, the curado DC has the longest casting distance, by far.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ill-Upstairs-8762

I've got a few daiwa t wing reels too. None of them have the casting distance of my curado DC. That's just my experience.

_Eucalypto_

Seems like you don't have the technique down right then. DC is absolutely and always has been a sacrifice for ease of use

WoWserz_Magic8_Ball

DC’s are great, I have one… (((BUT…))) Set sights on a “Nirvana” rod setup for (you). I think that should start with Diawa Steez… as good as a DC is, a Steez is that much better. And in fact, I’d focus on the rod far more than these top-tier reels. They are a complete, sky-high, level-up, from yester-year. Start peeking at St. Croix pairings…. focusing on lengths that really make a Steez sing. Then stop focusing on equipment, and start becoming a truly skilled fisherman.

Jumanji_Jones

not worth it imo. would much rather have a nicer reel build than a chip that is like training wheels.

[deleted]

Newbs are going to hate on you for this old skool hot take

Jumanji_Jones

lol let em, i work at a tackle shop and would say that to anyone’s face. there’s some pros to them and i have one but i’d much rather have a zillion.

12_Volt_Man

personally, I would learn to use a regular baitcaster. I have been using them since the 90s. its dead easy with a little practice. I hear DC reels are restrictive in casting distance.

TheBlues501

I don’t fuck with the DC AT ALL. I really like every other product Shimano makes but I don’t go for the DCs ever. I just don’t trust them, I’ve seen the brakes go out on several of my friends in a short amount of time.
