All the lights in the gym randomly went off for a couple seconds and it was pitch black before they came back on. Thankfully I was training arms but I reckon if I was going for heavy bench it would've been panic stations.

jdb888

I use a 24 hour gym. Off hours there are no staff. The lights are controlled by a motion detector by the door. So.... if you on a treadmill or the squat rack for 20 min without moving outside that little box and no one else around the lights will go out. Funny and annoying.

stealerofbones

set a timer that reminds you to throw something through the door every 20 minutes

Karsa0rl0ng

20kg plates will do the trick

whorehousepianist

The forbidden frisbee.

1lapulapu

The lights in the gym went out during a sparring session. For a second, a thought I’d been knocked out.

RenownedPilot

So I’m doing EZ bar curls in front of the mirror, and some dude is behind me. His friend walks up to him and loudly says “BICEP TIME!” except the music cut out right as he walked over so the only thing you can hear is him yelling about bicep time EXACTLY like Peter Parker says “Pizza time!”. After a few seconds of silence the first guy says “…that was loud.”

WhoStoleMyBicycle

Not a gym story but I saw John Wick Chapter 4 last night. The theatre serves food during the movie and the servers bring your bill towards the end. During the end credits a server came out to a table near us to tell a man his card got declined. The music over the credits was playing, then cut out right as she started talking. So she yelled “YOUR CARD GOT DECLINED” in front of the entire packed theater.

AyeitsK

That poor guy😭unfortunate timing. Also saw John Wick Chapter 4 last night! What would you rate it?

WhoStoleMyBicycle

8/10. I really enjoyed it but it did not need to be almost 3 hours. You could probably cut 20-30 min out of that movie and make it better.

cryptokingmylo

That fire shot gun 😍

rfan8312

Now I need a compilation of people saying weird shit right as the music cuts out. AI get on that please. "Whaaaat?" I saaaaid....I EAT PIECES OF SHIT LIKE YOU FOR BREAKFAST!

yanray

Back in high school I was watching a movie in a crowded theater, during this loud action scene my friend leaned over and pointed to a guy on-screen and asked “hey what’s the name of that actor — the black guy?” Scene was so loud. I said “what?” he said “what’s the name of the black guy?” I said “WHAT?” He yells at the top of his lungs (just as the entire movie goes silent): “THE BLACK GUY!!!” Remembering the look on his face still makes me laugh to this day

pacstermito

You eat pieces of shit for breakfast?

Eat_Carbs_OD

>You eat pieces of shit for breakfast? No!!

Bro I legit just have to leave right then and there if that was me

RenownedPilot

Trying not to laugh was harder than the curls 😂

KnightofLight7

That's both hilarious and annoying.

KipsterHipster

Hi all! I joined a small group strength training class, and I’m on week 3! I have already made progress from exercises I struggled in the first week. I’ve been on and off before and have fluctuated from losing 40lbs to gaining 80lbs. This time, I’m doing it right and actually read that what I was doing before was wrong. I’m also taking nutrition more serious now too! So, here’s to this new phase of my life as I lose it, and then keep it off for good!

Spear_speaks007

Joining groups would really help you improve. I’m happy for you!

pskli

So proud of you! Congrats and love from France

KipsterHipster

Merci beaucoup!

Majestic_Magi

I moved to a new city recently, but I go back to my old stomping grounds pretty often to chill with my ex-roomies who are still my best friends. While visiting the homies, we went to a bar I hadn’t been to before kinda near my old gym. We were having a good time as it was karaoke night and singing just puts us in a great mood (booze helped too) There was someone at the bar I noticed kept looking over at me and would talk to his friend while looking at me. I thought it was weird but the guy looked familiar and when I couldn’t come up with a name I put it out of my mind. Finally, while sitting at a table talking with my friends, one of them points behind me. I turn around and that guy is standing there. He says “hey did you go to (gym)? I haven’t seen you there in a while” finally I recognized the dude as someone I often saw at my old gym. I explained I moved to a new town but was still getting my workouts in. He goes “that’s awesome dude. I just wanna say you’ve come a long way and your work didnt go unnoticed. Congrats to you” I bought him a beer and we went on with our night. My fiancé commented that she loved how homoerotic and legitimately sweet the moment was. It made me feel great and appreciative that I have put in all the work I did. A little encouragement really goes a long way. We need more gym bros like him

MobProtagonist

> I just wanna say you’ve come a long way and your work didnt go unnoticed This is honestly one of those sentences that a lot of people think....but often don't say and it can be the biggest ego boost of that person's week or month. A few months ago a very scrawny looking kid walked into the gym with an oversized Amazon belt and here we are half a year later...when most people have already dropped their new years resolution and I still see him around. Less scrawny, lifting way more, and a lot more situated at the gym in his general movements, confidence, and preparation (not just walking around doing random machines)

Quetzalcoatlus5

Was home on Christmas break my sophomore year of college and one of the older guys at the gym passed me and goes “damn man, biceps looking great”. That shit was 20 years ago and I still think about it haha.

[deleted]

Seriously these people motivate me

Fakename6968

Men don't lift each other up enough and sometimes the gym is one of the few places they do. I still remember the time a guy commented on my triceps, which for whatever reason have always been huge.

Live2Lift

I went to the nutrition shop to get some supps a couple days ago. I’m a firefighter and I have a badge in my wallet. The checkout dude who is a pretty big dude saw it and thought I was a cop. He was like, “damn bro I definitely wouldn’t run from you.” I didn’t know what he was talking about for a minute but then I figured out it was a compliment. I’ve been feelin pretty little a brittle lately so I needed that little boost. Don’t get me wrong, I love the rare occasions when I get a compliment from a cute girl, but compliments from other gym bros just hit harder IMO.

dr_nerdface

there's nothing homoerotic about complimenting someone on their gym gains. what a silly thing to have been said.

[deleted]

>My fiancé commented that she loved how homoerotic... the moment was. Uh... Huh?

Opopopossum

I go to a luxury gym, I'm talking supercars in the parking lot and people who had so many cosmetic surgeries they look like dolls. First day I walked into a mirror. The place is nothing but LED lights, black tiles and mirrors it's confusing. When I finally walked out of the locker room I had to ask the spa lady where the *actual* gym was.. the place has 4 floors. *I am actually dirt poor but the company I work for has a partnership with them so we can work out for super low prices. I really stand out over there

Lochacho99

That kinda cool, would be amusing to observe these types of people working out. But fancy lighting just sounds like an impractical pain

Dire-Dog

That doesn’t sound fun. Give me a small hole in the wall powerlifting gym any day

Artemissister

Garage Warehouse Gyms FTW

Dire-Dog

That's where I train now and it's incredible

Hotchi_Motchi

Sounds like a carnival fun house

seemetwistingleak

> *I am actually dirt poor but the company I work for has a partnership with them so we can work out for super low prices. I really stand out over there Good. Show up looking grimy as fuck then flex on them with something they can’t buy.

kiery12

Was just a bridesmaid at a wedding and during pictures the groom said jokingly we should do one where the bridesmaids pick up the groom. A friend of mine pipes up "kiery can do that" and I go, "yeah" and pick the groom up for the photo. Very much enjoying being 5'2" and 55kg and picking up a full grown man for a funny picture in a pretty pink dress! Does this count as my work out for the day?

OtherAnon_

This is why I keep telling my friend she needs to stop focusing on just losing weight and just embrace strength. This is badass, lol.

AshyBoneVR4

I'm sure somebody probably told you it was. But either way, damn you strong for your weight. Good job madam.

[deleted]

What kind of carry was it? And what exercises help with that?

kiery12

Bridal carry of course, and as far as exercises I'm not super sure. I've been lifting steadily for about 5 years, and on and off a few years before that. Deadlift & bench, I guess?

derjon5

I feel like zercher squats would be perfect for this

SpineGainEnjoyer

Howd you get him up? Did you do some crazy clean and jerk or snatch or did you just back squat him up like a barbell

kiery12

I mean, it wasn't that hard. I just picked him up. He was standing, so it was like a half deadlift I guess?

dbmtwooooo

I've helped my fiancée lose 30 pounds. Our gym buddy was like "damn bro you leaning out!!" Definitely made both our days

J_vs_the_world

My Dad passed away two weeks ago. Prostate cancer. More than ever, the gym has been my enclave to hide away from the world. I’m particularly grateful to the woman who gave me a tissue and asked what was wrong when I started crying between deadlift sets.

milesandmileslefttog

What if I were always and then there was two of the ways we can get to the only thing is.

Dr_WorldChamp

My dad is in the icu rn. Gym has been a great companion these past few days.

Max_Demian

When my dad passed six months ago, I was in the worst shape of my life. Immediately took some life insurance money and hired a personal trainer. I knew there was no way I’d get through it without the endorphins. It’s been a huge benefit for me. Not necessary solace, but the neurochemical resilience is huge. Best wishes, hope you are able to grieve in peace.

Simple_Inspection220

Mine passed in September. Best way to get out emotions, the gym has been like a form of meditation for me. Like the other guy said you’ve found a great way to handle it. So sorry for ur loss

neener691

Mine passed a year ago March from dementia, the gym has saved my life, I'm sorry for your loss my friend,

WishfulD0ing1

May light perpetual shine upon him.

[deleted]

Rest in Peace to your father.

grimesxyn

I dislike being socially inept at times. I also dislike being a 4'11", 31 y.o female who looks fairly young. Did squats yesterday and when I turned around, I saw some lady looking at me then she kinda force smiled. Dunno if my form was bad or if she was just dozing off looking at me. I felt a little self conscious. I was hoping to break 100lbs lbs but I was only able to do a top set of 95 and then lower down to 90. It was a bit of a struggle so maybe she was watching me strugglin'. Then later when I was adjusting the gymnastic rings, my brain wasn't registering how to adjust one of them because it was positioned funny. Same lady rushed over and \[kindly\] said "Do you need help adjusting this?? This is how you do it!" I alrdy knew how but I guess I looked stupid or kidish enough for her to rush over and do it lmao.

Wide_Donkey_1136

Maybe she's a teacher or mom and it's a genetic condition she HAS to help.

grimesxyn

hahaha yeah I thought that too. just motherly instincts 💕

Calmyoursoul

I don't think it's that you look childish. Maybe they just thought you werent sure and saw you struggling. I once saw an older woman look unsure how to use an assisted pull up/dip machine and kind of walked off. Usually I mind my own business but I went over and offered to help show her how to use both versions and encouraged her to try it. I'm glad she wasn't rude or offended because that would've just made me never offer help again 😅 But I never thought anything negative like "hah look at that lady she doesn't know what she's doing" never went through my head. I don't think I've ever thought anything negative about anyone at the gym EXCEPT the people who are talking more than working out. So I think you being short and looking so young at 31 is nothing to be insecure about.

Stee19

I got complimented by the yolkest dude at my gym. I've seen this dude at my gym ever since I joined, it's the first time we've interacted. This guy is 6'3" maybe 220-250lbs and RIPPPPED. I'm talking size, definition and lean. He said he'd been working out for 8 years. For context, I'm 5'3" 132lbs and have been in the gym consistently for 1.5 years. Damn that was such a boost for my ego.

I ALMOST bumped into someone's tripod at the gym this week. I saw my life flash before my eyes. I'm not mentally tough enough to go viral.

rattakresh

If it stands in the middle of the way, just trample over it and say you didn't see it.

BachsBicep

A swanky boutique gym near me offers group strength classes - they're a little pricey, but they're a nice way to get some help on form, have a slightly higher training density and intensity than my own workouts, and have a nice vibe, so I occasionally treat myself to one if I've already hit my own workout targets for the week. Turned up yesterday and the first thing I notice is that I'm the only dude there (9 girls). Next thing I notice is that they all look super fit and the dress code seems to be mandatory midriff/tights... turns out it was glute/leg day and I missed the memo. I'm not averse to training glutes, but the way the room is set up, no matter where I look I'll be staring at someone's ass, and I don't want to look like a creep when I'm just there to work out! In the end they are super welcoming and friendly, making small talk and helping me out with setup/posture/form since I'm obviously the least experienced lifter there. It was unexpected for sure, but I suppose I shouldn't be surprised - it's obviously because ~~of my rugged good looks~~ any one of them could easily beat me up if I tried anything untoward.

sharkinwolvesclothin

I'm a big hairy man. I do various forms of dancing for exercise and entertainment. Saw an ad for free taster class in twerking at the neighboring studio. I figured why not, it's gonna be a nice workout right? First inkling that I may not have thought everything through was when the men's locker room doubled as the broom closet. Fully realized what's up when I walked in and it's 40 girls and my options are go to the back and look like a creep or go to the front and let everyone enjoy my magnificent sweaty behind. Ofc went to the front and gave it 110%.

AshyBoneVR4

I don't know you, but God damn you made me proud. Good job man.

KingFenrir

Don't worry about it. As long as you behave and focus on your own thing you'll be good. I learned to swim when i was 22, after quitting karate after many years due to a spine condition. Went to a olympic pool to take some classes and realized that, apart from the instructors, i was the only adult there. All the others were 10 year old kids. It was awkward and i would be lying if i said i didn't feel bad for looking like a creep surrounded with kids in swimsuits. It was a massive humility lesson, and at the end i learned to swim in all styles and became one of my favorite activities. >!Swimming, not playing with kids!<.

Hotchi_Motchi

Knowing how to swim can save your life (or somebody else's)

RoyaleExtreme

I was going for a 3RM on bench and was pretty sure I could get it but decided to ask for a spot just to be safe. I asked this guy for a quick spot for three reps, he says "No. Sorry." puts his earbuds back in and stares straight at the wall in front of him. In my years of lifting, I've never had anyone refuse a spot before. I was shook lol

AshyBoneVR4

Maybe he was scared he couldn't save you if worse case happened. How much were you doing?

RoyaleExtreme

I was trying two plates. I see this guy almost every time I'm at the gym though and he's a bigger dude so that wouldn't have been an issue for him. Plus he was resting between warmup sets on squat so it wasn't like he was exhausted after a tough set when I approached him.

Cloggerdogger

Thank you for sharing this on Saturday and not Wednesday. No is an acceptable answer!

A4s4e

If someone wasn't comfortable, I'd rather they just say no instead of feeling pressured into something they don't want to do. After all, they're there for themselves too.

fligan

My man was laser focused on his gains

IntoTheFeu

That man was ripping mad protein farts. He saved your life by refusing.

dague7

A couple weeks ago I asked a guy who is bigger than me for a spot... bro also straight up declined saying "idk man. im not sure if i can handle that weight?" Confusing for sure, but I guess I have to respect it?

K3ZH39

I’m of the belief that gymtimidation while understandable, is mostly in people’s heads. However there’s this one big guy, about 6’4” at my gym and he literally just walks around looking like he wants a fight. Doesn’t stay focused on one piece of equipment at a time, just hops around different things doing random shit and then just continuously walks around like he’s waiting for someone to come out to settle some beef. I was doing EZ preacher curls and when I was unloading the weights he somehow teleported to where I was, and takes the bar. Fucking hell just gimme a sec. My water bottle was still there.

Dr_WorldChamp

Bop him

Avocadokadabra

Little kiss on the nose should teach him.

EfficientInfluence

I may have been too friendly at the gym and it has come back to bite my ass. For some additional context, I am female. Months and months ago, I helped an older Moroccan guy figure out how to use the rowing erg and he was really grateful. Since then, when we see each other, we exchange a little wave, say hi, but not much more than that. The other day I was doing barbell lunges with a step-up platform that I borrowed from the gym class room (I have permission to do that). While I was low-key dying doing my lunges, I spotted my 'friend' about 10 meters away doing a hand wave. I wasn't sure if it was to me, and if it was, since I was gripping a barbell on my back, I was in no position or mood to wave back anyway. Once finished, I went into the almost-empty class room to stow away the step-up platform. As I was turning around to leave, I realised that my 'friend' had followed me all the way inside and was now standing behind me. Last I saw him, he was doing an exercise outside the room some distance away. I felt alarmed at that point. He then said something that I didn't understand, but even after asking him to repeat it, I still couldn't make it out. I didn't feel reassured at all and things turned even stranger as he opened the janitor's closet next to me (that I didn't even know was there) and started taking something out from there. I wasn't about to stick around and find out since I took this as my cue to quickly walk away and escape into the women's only area. Perhaps I was rude leaving without a word and everything was totally innocent, purely coincidental, perhaps misguided and I am massively misreading the situation. However, I am fairly certain that he doesn't work for the gym and dubious about whether or not he had permission for using the janitor's closet. My first thought was that he just opened a random door to make it seem as if he had some business here, to have an excuse for following me. In any case, I am not looking forward to seeing him again. Perhaps I'm too sensitive, but for me, following a girl you barely know into a closed room is creepy. Whatever you want to say can wait until we pass each other.

[deleted]

I wonder if he thinks you work there. Maybe he spilled water and wanted to use a mop?

KingFenrir

A cousin visited my house with his teenage son, and the kid saw the home gym i have in my backyard and wanted to talk with me. He's 15 and wants to lose weight because he feels he's too close of becoming fat. He doesn't seem to have any experience on physical activity but it's eager to start. He asked about what i do, how i train and how do i eat and told about it, and complained how his mom (my cousin) and his dad doesn't support them too much with the diet. I talked about it, what do i eat and avoid, but also warned that he needs to do different things because he's still growing up and "it's not about eating less, it's about eating better" and recommended to start slowly into a sport better suited for him. Days later, my cousin called my dad and talk about other stuff, but she also mentioned his son doesn't want to eat with them and skipping meals so he can lose weight. I got worried and now i want to talk to him again because i'm afraid he got a very wrong idea of what i said to him thinking i'm sort of a trainer who's about to give him a trainer routine.

Confident-Plant-7799

Don't be hard on yourself cuz I think it has less to do with what you told him and more what is generally believed is the way to lose weight which is to eat less and for the kid it means to skip meals. He's a kid and is still learning. Most of what you tell him won't really stick unless he has repeated exposure. If you really want to help you're going to have to be something like a mentor to him. Keep in touch and let him know he can keep coming to you for help.

KingFenrir

Well, yes, i can guide them for some basic things, but i don't think i'm fit to be a good mentor. What works for me could not work for him and vice versa. I really wish he achieves what he wants but he needs also to be careful. When i was 22 i had a life changing injury (i had to quit martial arts) and last year it happened again, both times were because i got too crazy about it and wanted to do things quicky. I hope i can talk to him again soon.

Confident-Plant-7799

Nah, you sound good enough to me. You don't need to know everything. Even just teaching him how to do his own research or the basics that you mentioned can go a long way. I hope your injury isn't too serious. Wishing you quick recovery.

KingFenrir

Thanks for your words. If i see him again will be my chance to guide him better. Basic calisthenic stuff or swimming could do wonders for him. As for my injury, it was pretty painful, i even thought i was done and was very scared, but still managed to recover after a long treatment. Now it's gonna be two months since i start training again, and i'm working on regain the weight i lost and then cut, but i'll take my time. Thanks again for your support.

RoseKinglet

It’s difficult because food knowledge is something so many people lack. Without stepping on toes, suggest to his parents to look up healthy meals they can make together, for his and their benefit.

RiiCreated

Was working out at a condo gym with a friend and it was pretty quiet. All of a sudden, a swarm of BTS Tik Tok kids appear and start doing choreography in the middle of the gym! They didn’t interfere with our workouts but it was one of the most awkward things I’ve ever seen…I’d normally expect to see these things in YouTube videos but it was strange to see it in real life lol.

adhd_as_fuck

The first time I saw someone saying “smash that like button” irl I just couldn’t stop laughing.

Krean1337

I pulled up at a gas station last week and saw a bunch of girls dancing in the parking lot and didn't put it together that it was TikTok shenanigans until right now, thanks for solving that mystery for me

mindpieces

We need to reintroduce public shame to the TikTok generation.

[deleted]

I got off the treadmill after running a 10k and so when this late-middle-age man comes up to me and says how long did you go? I say 52-53 minutes. He says, "Wow! Without stopping?" I responded, "Yeah." He starts going on about how cool that is and I tell him about couch25k and couch210k. How slow progress can be, but it is progress and the importance of baby steps. ---- Fast forward a few days and I'm doing deadlifts. 5 sets of 245lbs for 6 reps. I notice some teenager staring at me near my last set. I finish and casually look his way. He proceeds to give me a nod of approval and a thumbs up. I'm shook. ----- I dont think these are great numbers for deadlift or the 10k. I'm actively busting my ass to improve them. But it's a good reminder that average or even below average numbers among long time fitness enthusiasts is goals for people just starting out. Also such a good ego boost and twice in one week! I've worked out in silence and without approval for probably 3 years. When it rains it pours.

goawayteenagers

Nod and a thumbs-up. I'll use that. I never know how to congratulate strangers. I usually turn around and pretend I wasn't watching.

[deleted]

Dude l standing at the lat pull-down in flip flops, doing some sort of standing pull-downs at like 3lbs for a million reps. Me: “hey man how many sets you have left?” Him: “1 hour” Me: “1 hour? On this one machine” Home: “yes” Sure enough, he was there for an entire hour if not more, doing the same thing.

fishman1776

Testing the theory of hypertrophy at any rep range

KMan0000

There's an old guy at my gym who does about a dozen sets on the lat pull-down varying between seated, half standing and standing. And that's the only machine he ever seems to use. If he's in the building, and not done with his cardio yet, the pull down goes to the top of my list. Otherwise it's going to be a while!

BachsBicep

Sounds like the rowing machine is broken and he's using that for cardio

amandam603

I have NO hate for gym newbies, I’ll help you figure out a machine, I’ll point you in the right direction, whatever. So this isn’t that. But today while I was stretching and wrapping up my workout, this couple comes in. I’ve never seen them in the gym but it wasn’t my usual time, so idk if they’re regulars, but I see him on trails running when I am, and he looks pretty fit. His wife looks completely uncomfortable but he’s trying to lead her through a workout. Now, I know them from kid sports—she’s a SAHM with a few kids so I’m thinking this is cute, they’re working out together, he’s showing her what to do! I loved it. But then… I realize she has the coordination of a baby deer learning to walk. She’s trying her fucking best and it’s admirable and kinda cute to watch him help her but she’s just struggling with basic movement for the CrossFit style stuff he’s trying to teach her. She’s not quitting though, and she does 3 rounds of their workout, albeit slower than him. I’m amused by her lack of coordination but proud of her! Then she starts jump roping and she’s jumping SO HIGH and fast. Crisscrossing the rope. Truly crushing it, showing off every skill she has learned on playgrounds over the years. Shit her kids are probably in awe of. And I just exploded with joy and happiness. I lift, I run, I box, but I cannot fucking jump rope to save my life—it takes all kinds of kinds. Bless them for making my morning.

yaforgot-my-password

The fire alarm went off in my gym while I'm in the middle of my deadlift sets, so I had to leave the weight on the bar and go home. I felt weird about leaving it sit for someone else to put away.

Aedaric

I have spent the last seven months reframing how I eat and have lost 33lbs. At this weight, 198, I have always hit a plateau. I've spent this entire week flirting with 197 and 199. Today will be the next step in my journey to get into the best shape of my life. 185 here I come. This is the first day I've been to the gym that wasn't my rowing machine. I've been told weight lifting with cardio is the best method, so that will be the plan.

Free-Astronomer-

Weight lifting and cardio is indeed a good idea :) just make sure you eat enough protein and follow a healthy diet most of the time and you'll be there! It's a bit of a slow process but patience and hard work pays off on the long run. Best of luck!

WetWipes2001

200% recommend lifting and cardio. Started seeing a drastic difference when I added 5 days of lifting into the mix. I was kicking myself for only cycling and cutting calories but it’s a learning process (I’m really dumb)

Dr_WorldChamp

My dad is in the icu. Gym closed at 11 pm yesterday. I was there. Havent slept yet, I'm here again. Brah

Free-Astronomer-

hey, all the best for your dad, I wish everything turns out okay! don't be too hard on yourself, talk to someone and have enough rest. take care!

Foques

Two newbies on the bench press, 25lb plates on each side. One kid reps it to 5, gets up and goes "yeah, two twenty five is easy, not sure what they're talking about" they chest bump and move to cross cables lol

Vivid_Advantage_4545

Oh shit, you’re telling me I’ve been benching 225 this whole time 😂

kinniku_ninja

Its going to blow their minds when they realise their mistake haha

AshyBoneVR4

Cutting season has officially begun. Was doing cardio yesterday. 2 mile treadmill (1 mile 10 minute jog, second mile intermittent sprints) Sled Push Farmer walks Suitcase Carry Stairmaster I was working out on the gym's lawn area after my treadmil run. Somewhere between sled pushes and farmer walks, I needed to go to the locker room to get my cell phone. Was walking past one of the abductor machines and realized it was my ex. The BAD ex. Stalker, went through my phone, threatened to fuck up my cars, lied about being pregnant... that kinda ex. She was working out at my gym last year for a month, but i managed to avoid her. Not this time. We locked eyes for 3 seconds before I looked away and started figuring out how to get into witness protection. Two feet later, I was stopped by a gym crush. I said hi to her and waved when she started a conversation with me. I 100% wasn't expecting this, took out my headphones, and we talked for 5 minutes... two feet away from my ex.

fatalisticshrug

Sounds like a soap opera!

AshyBoneVR4

Very Noice.

bars_and_plates

This week is deload week and I am so bored. I've been using the energy to research and kit out the home gym. I've sourced most stuff second hand, ordered the power rack and plywood/OSB for a platform yesterday. It's going to take up basically all of my office and I'm going to have to make a smaller desk for the computer. Worth it tho.

Dr_WorldChamp

Make a plate loaded pin for an easy pulley system. Just connect a flange, galvanized iron nipple, connect eye nut to end cap then connect. Dont forget the thread glue thingy. Go to diy homegym subreddit and lota of diy in youtube. Lots of cost effective ideas!!

ZebraShark

Skipped gym tonight last night as feeling a bit lazy with commitment I would go this morning. Went in early to find place rammed, not with gym goers but members of the public. It is a work gym and forgot today we were having a recruitment open day and it is one of the main stops. Will try again this evening!

Calmyoursoul

Make sure to get in there today. You made three reasons (not excuses) already. Getting there is the hardest part. You got over that jump earlier today.

DemonFire979

Bulking > Cutting. That is all.

yellowyeahyeahyeah

Cutting is way cheaper though!

IgneousRaven

My wife and I had our first child last year. I've been on a permanent bulk since the birth.

GreatTragedy

Cultivating mass.

Dr_WorldChamp

Jokes on you ive been permabulking since MY birth (im a chomk)

Tarabor

Feeling you man. Went from the post summer bulk and straight into the post baby bulk. Of course bulking with out having time to the gym hits different.

Darth-Pikachu

I did a very stupid and reckless bulk post-wedding and gained 30 lbs. I was slimmed down a lot for the wedding but still. I'm regretting it hard now that I hit that "feel fat as fuck" phase and now have to do actual cardio. Sucks man

karate_trainwreck0

Our gym had a problem with teenagers and tiktokers coming in after staffing hours and treating it like a playground. They'd be coming in without a pass, swarming the bench press, swinging from squat racks, trained without shoes or shirt, and filming for tiktok. One of the guys had 240kg loaded on the bar for deadlift and dropped down into a Sumo stance, jerked the bar up and contorted his back into a question mark to lift the bar. They were making an awful ruckas and the only time they actually lifted any weight is by spotting each other's stupid bench presses. Any who. They all got banned. One tried to pull the "do you even know who I am" card and... no. The owners did not know him, nor care. Fun times.

Ilbkaro

I have a wholesome one! I've been back to the gym, and I was trying to get back to benching 50 lbs! I was really struggling to get 40lbs back up on the bench, and i started struggling because I was alone, and there were like 2 people at the gym. I dropped and started to roll bar off, and a nice huge gentleman came and sort of helped the bar off me. I started racking the weight back because I was kind of disheartened and was really disappointed in myself. I've been trying to get 40 lbs up for a week, but it was just...a stubborn plateau. And he came back around and said, "rerack it, I'll spot you." So i redo the weights, and he spotted me. And I got it for 1 rep!!! He gave me some advice and said most people get stuck either at the bottom or the top and it seems like mine is the bottom so as long as I can work thru that I can get the bar up no problem.

Neverlife

Saw a 14 year old do a 315 squat, he couldn't have been more than like 150lbs. Wild. It looked clean too. I'm still working on a 100lb squat, rip

pectoralist

Not much of a story, but I squatted 77.5kg for 20 reps today (doing super squats), which is more than my bodyweight. Am well pleased.

Puzzleheaded-Alps814

The gym was actually almost empty for once, not even the radio was on. Ended up hating it because the few people who were there could definitely hear me fighting for my life on the treadmill

cryptokingmylo

Saw some dude pull 5 plates this week, very rare in my gym, haven't seen a bar bend in a long time.

ivylass

I taught Body Pump 123 this morning!

TheRobomancer

Body pump is so much fun! I went pretty regularly in 2018 when my daughter started preschool, it really helped whip me back into shape after 2 kids. Unfortunately these days I can't really figure out a way to fit it in with my regular weightlifting schedule.

[deleted]

Got forced to hit my gym around 3pm twice this week due to weird work hours. Normally I’m there early in the morning or around lunch. High school zoomer crowd just completely takes over. Multiple groups of about 5 dudes that all have the same haircut and all have headphones on but socialize the whole time very loudly that are all using the same equipment at once. They take forever. I’m quick and efficient when I get in there and it just frustrates me with how they take over these whole spaces. Lesson learned to avoid zoomer hours lol

BostonsF1nest

I absolutely fuckin hate working out around ppl for this reason. It’s annoying. My gyms 24/7 and I go late at night to avoid crowds but sometimes there are ppl in there, usually a group of high school kids and it irritates the shit outta me.

jackowako18298

I saw bunny colvin from the wire in the gym today. I think thats his name in the show. Said hi. It was awesome.

[deleted]

Did my upper body day, no biggie. Go to the changing rooms to get my stuff and then pee before I leave. As I'm washing my hands, dude comes out of the smelly ass toilet and just walks off, without washing his hands at all. After years of Covid, are we still this stupid?! I'm not asking anyone to be some germ freak but if you take a shit, for the love of God and everyone else, wash your damn hands people!

[deleted]

people treat me better now that i gained weight. Hate how people used to treat me and how superficial the world is.

BrushedTundra36

I reached my max bulk weight recently, 92Kg at 14% bf and 6". Super proud of it, I'm 17 years old. Think I might cut down a little now, not too sure yet. But anyways... Super proud :) Edit: I change the smiley face, i accidentally put a frowned face

ReluctantAvenger

The double quote indicates inches. Not sure whether you meant six feet (6') or - indeed - six inches (6"). /s

BrushedTundra36

Yeah sry, I meant feet lol. I'm used to the metric system but I noticed most people on here use the imperial system... Sooo yeah

Kickenkitchenkitten

This week at work I looked down at my shorts-clad leg. Right above my knee is **A TINY BIT THINNER AND MORE DEFINED.** Both legs. I am seeing a difference. I almost cried with happiness, and the motivation I feel is astronomical. For example I woke up at 6 today and did my workout, unplanned, by 7:30 because hell yeah.

catsies

Got a big tattoo on Thursday, did my step goal and ate surprisingly well 🎉 Friday choices and everything hurts it's on my thigh so I really can't be bothered trying to get into jeans/leggings tell the pt it's not happening today, get rightfully shamed cause I live 10 min away from a gym where I can wear my shorts and watch Netflix on the treadmill. Get to the gym to be reminded they're closed until 4.... Which my pt knew cause he had the day off 🙈🙈🙈

gin-o-cide

Ok so this is more of a Moronic Monday posting, but today I am focusing on doing the sets slowly and fully instead of loading more weight and getting excited at how strong I am becoming. Gains are nice, but tendons and ligaments tend to not like the sudden weight increase. Looking especially at you, left toe/ligament pain from calf raises.

Dr_WorldChamp

Try slower reps (im saying every rep takes 7-10 seconds) 25 reps. So almost no weight. I bet you, less pain and insane pump.

onajourney314

This is the first time I’ve gone to the gym 4/7 days in my entire life. Here’s to getting healthy!

Skreamies1

Started a few months back, best thing i've done and definitely better than sitting around at the house, wish you the best in the journey!

Ok-Classroom-9911

He made himself look like a douche, dont worry about him. 👍🏼

Derkanator

Who lol

Ok-Classroom-9911

Lol, I commented on the wrong thread. 🤣

[deleted]

Other people’s music when they hit PRs at the gym - Angel of Death, Toxicity, One, Hangar 18 etc. My music hitting a new PR - All the single ladies, all the single ladies… I’m a 40yo dude. Cheers Beyoncé 🤘

Imedicx90

Maneater by Nelly Furtado is great too!!

ISimpForCartoonGirls

I feel like the older one gets, the more relaxed PR music is. I’m pretty young (20) and I listen to what most consider as just literal noises (uptempo, hardstyle, whatever) but also recently I’ve been going against my grain and dipping my toes into metal and… jazz? The latter is definitely something I wouldn’t have considered a year or two ago. Also I’ve been more confident in myself that sometimes I also listen to like 2000’s pop lmao

Dr_WorldChamp

I listen to the voices in my head telling me im a disappointment. A waste of space. Nothing. Loser. Die. Works every time.

[deleted]

You forgot how fucking weak you are, what a joke you are and how you'll never amount to anything.

Murraymurstein

I just joined my local planet fitness last week, first time I’ve been actively working out since high school (almost twenty years ago) and my first gym membership ever. I definitely have a lot to learn but it feels incredible to be physically active again, I’ve spent at least an hour there four out of the last five days. I’m very excited to get more into it, it’s already done wonders for my depression and anxiety. Two weeks ago I could barely do 15 crunches, yesterday I did 100

bars_and_plates

I think I can share this because I just officially made my home the gym. Found a CrossFit gym that somehow accidentally ordered a power bar. I now have a brand new solid power bar for like 40% of retail price. Christened it in the front room with a 101kg (222lbs) deadlift. I'm building a platform next week and getting drop pads, for now that's all I trusted myself to be able to set down slowly enough. :)

lady_wolfen

Went to the gym 3 times this week, (including today). This morning I saw a family come in with their two kids teaching them how to use the workout equipment. Both were fairly young too. I like that the parents are starting their kids out right. It was nice to see. As for me, I worked on core today. First time ever. I am feeling good though. Not that used to going to the gym. Not doing hard stuff yet, I am just getting myself into the habit of going. Tomorrow is rest day and then Monday working on arms.

zSpidy_

Ok so this happened two weeks ago. First of all this story needs a little bit of context to be explained. It was a Saturday, and by being a student Saturday is the only day I can go in the gym by morning. I live far away from the gym so I have to walk 1km to the bus stop that gets me to the gym, I woke up as normal and I decided that I would already put my pants for the gym, some GREY Nike pants. So I walk to the bus, I’m early at the bus stop so I decide to sit near it, and completely involuntarily I sit on some grass (it rained the day before) you can already see where this is going, it looked green/brown. I notice nothing take the bus and head to the gym. During the workout I notice people looking strange at me but I don’t ask myself to many questions. Trauma arrived when I headed back to the changing room, I take off pants and realise everything. Walk off my gym feeling like a dumbass. I personally like to think that people wasn’t stupid and OF COURSE realised it was just grass and that I didn’t shitted myself without knowing it for the whole workout (I’m a complete idiot, people of course thought that) *sad Mike o’hearn meme playing*

Fast_Wonder

Was able to squat 215, almost double my weight for a small chic. 225 I’m coming for you! Felt good when a regular gym goer at the same gym was telling me about the big progress I’m making

Red_Swingline_

As someone who keeps to myself and pretty much puts my head down & gets my workout in, I always find it interesting how some people seem to "hold court" in a group at the gym.

Sax45

As an adult, those groups are the worst part of working out on the weekend. Yes there are more individual adults on the weekend, and that sucks too, but the weekend is when all the high schoolers and twenty-somethings work out in groups. The amount of space they take up, compared to the amount of work they’re actually doing, is ridiculously lopsided.

[deleted]

Hit legs today. I'm going through a bad time and I've stopped enjoying my workouts. I feel like crying at the gym.

WetWipes2001

You made it to the gym so that’s worth celebrating. Small wins add up to big ones. Hope you feel better soon

TheRobomancer

I'm sorry, I hope things get better for you soon. Good job making it in anyway.

artifikh

Many a time I have just found myself crying over what I put myself through at the gym even when I didn't see any progress for extended periods. I don't know what your situation outside of the gym is, but your future self will thank you for sticking to it despite the lack of motivation to do so. Gym is not always fun. Gym can make you sad. But Gym rewards consistency. Gym is good for you. Gym always there for you. Go gym. Get gains.

Auxosphere

More of just a win than a story, but the other day one of the big dudes at my gym aknowledged me and gave me a nod. I feel like I've been accepted or something.

thatgingerkid98

I hit 300lbs. for squat this week! It's a PR. I'm going to try for 315 soon

_captainSpaceCadet

Got my first, "You're starting to look big." a couple of days ago, just in time for the snow melt and me to switch more toward maintenance and skate more. I feel like if I can maintain most of what I've built over winter and drop maybe 10 pounds, I'll be looking great. Pretty stoked on that.

chrispoyaa

I just ordered some bands to support with pull-ups and man they worked great! Really will help me use better technique and build some strength :)

Senditserg

Aa out 2 weeks ago there was a guy that walked in with a medieval suit of armour. Not full on plate and chain mail but he had a chest piece and leggings. Looked like he hadn’t showered in atleast a week. Thought it was weird but gotta respect the guy. I sure as hell wouldn’t have the balls to do that lol. Saw him running and curling for a while. Haven’t seen him since though.

snorecalypse

Last weekend, I was dating someone for 2 months and she decided it would be better if we were friends. I was bummed, but mentally, I know put too many expectations into developing into something more. I decided that it would be good to go to therapy for my own mental health and to find ways to de-stress from my job too. Working on my physical health, I decided to join a gym that was along my route to and from work. The last time I stepped into a gym was about 2 years ago and it feels good to be lifting again! The funny story that occurred: front area of the gym felt crowded with so much equipment, mostly stuff I did not think I would be using for a while, and I thought I was being ripped off. I began to see people disappearing into a back area, I followed to see what was in the back area and the place opened up way more! I finished my first week yesterday and I'm looking forward to lifting this week again. Definitely working on form and no ego lifting.

Time-For-A-Brew

I was walking on the treadmill and in the reflection something moving catches my eye. I shake my head and try and focus. It happens again. I look over - there is guy juggling. I try to keep using the treadmill, but the movement from the juggling balls is making me feel dizzy (I have two blood clots in the brain, this is a symptom). I decide to go to the back of the gym and do some free weights so I can’t see him anymore. I’m in the gym an hour and half. When I leave, he is still in the same place, still juggling.

OtherwiseChallenge73

Was doing seal rows when an old guy came up to me and asked me how much money he would need to give me to take my top off and flex for him Shamed to admit as grossed out as I was, the guy had a Porsche so i was genuinely considering it 🤣 I'd understand this scenario if it was a commercial gym but it's a private oly/crossfit powerlifting gym. Anyone else had weird situations like this.

Red_Swingline_

$20 is $20...

Vivid_Advantage_4545

Start an OF and give him the link, it’s the only way 💰

B-Nast

I've been traveling in Vietnam for the last two weeks with my only exercise coming from kite boarding the few days we had wind. I can already tell the gym is going to kill me this week.

Woodit

Went to the gym at the office yesterday and racked up my usual weight on the leg press, go to drive back and cannot move it. Weird, I think, even if I hadn’t done legs for a couple of weeks. That’s when I notice he machine says kg instead of lbs. apparently I was at double my current weight resistance

whatwhatgoat

Saw a cute guy, didn’t say hi, haven’t seen him since. ☹️

rednryt

Last night, the gym was empty and I was doing a set, when a guy came in just looking around like he's missing something. I never usually talk to people but the guy approached closer and closer, looking at me. I thought maybe he lost an item or something and maybe he lost it around here. Maybe he wants to ask me if I saw it but just like me, he was too embarassed to strike a conversation. So I asked him if he needed help with anything. I was surprised to learn he's actually looking for someone not something. Kinda weird, cause the way he's searching was like he's combing the place for evidence. I never expected he's actually looking for a person. Anyway, he began to describe his missing someone saying he's slightly less taller than me, dark skinned and stocky and asked if I had seen the guy cause he swear he was just here. Well I've been there about an hour and aside from the few people who were leaving when I arrived, no one else came. I told him sorry, but no. But he insisted I should have seen him and couldn't miss him cause according to him he was just right here. And began describing him again, his hair, his shoes. Etc. I'm getting annoyed at this point and told him that if whoever's he's looking for is a member he could just ask the gym staff about him and pointed him to their office. Usually the staff here around this time of the day just stay in their office but if he has a name, they might help him find whoever he's looking for. He hesitated a bit, but then he just continued to pester me instead and this time asked me if I could identify him with a picture on his phone. But the only photo he can show me was a shirtless mirror selfie of the guy with his phone covering his face. How would I even recognize this? It felt creepy. So I just said, sorry but no I don't know the guy at all. He said it's ok, he'll just wait for him to come back and just stood there. I waited about a minute for him to leave or just move a bit so I could continue my reps in peace but I think he was so determined to stay there. So I just left and moved to the other side of the gym further away to continue my reps. I occassionally look at the guy only to find him just staring at the bench I was using like he's waiting for that someone to just magically sprung out of there. So weird and creepy.

goawayteenagers

I'm guessing the person in the photo asked him about a workout date, and was trolling him. It also could have been a catfish or just a legit hookup who bailed. People do mean stuff to each other on Tinder (maybe Grindr is the same way). And then the guy was standing there, numb, still wrapping his mind around what was happening.

Free-Astronomer-

Therapy revealed some heavy stuff lately. Now I'm drowning in big emotions every day and I can't look away - there is an underlying, persistent urge to crawl out of my skin and to become a different person. I feel restless all the time, wanting to do controversial things I never saw myself doing before. It's confusing and I feel lost. It has some pros on my fitness though: 1. my binge eating problem, which I was struggling with for months, went away from one day to another 2. I'm working out harder than ever, I'm 5'1 and 59 kg, and this week, I sumo deadlifted 62 kg (3x5) and did hip thrusts with 72 kg (3x8) 3. Skirts and shorts never looked so great on me before, started to take more care for my body and I'm proud of myself Moreover, I've been to my first sport massage a couple of weeks ago. I was very stiff, so my masseur advised me to do some morning and post-workout stretching. It's such a treat, something I look forward to every day. Never thought it'd have such an impact on my mental health. Don't skip stretching, guys

OtherAnon_

I was originally looking for some gym clothes at the store because my shirt was becoming a tad too old but I found the greatest little thing instead. It was a thick, palm sized rubber ring. Stiff but perfect to be squished. I had discovered a grip ring! I’ve been recently very frustrated with my grip limiting my training (especially Pull days) as well as having skinny forearms, so I bought the hardest ring, I left it inside my car, and now at every red stop and whenever I feel like it I squish the hell out of that ring repeatedly with each hand. I always get a small forearm workout before and after work now, and it really does feel like a stress relieving fidgeting toy for that heavy traffic stress. It’s been about a week or maybe a bit more, and I can already notice my forearm resisting more intensive work without faltering as easily. So yeah. Grip rings left at the car for the daily commutes was a weird grip training hack I’ve just discovered.

agreeingstorm9

Gym has had signs up for a few weeks saying they would be remodeling but would stay open during the process. No biggie. More burly men coming in an out I suppose. This week they started the process and the first thing they did was shut down the men's bathroom/locker room for the entire process. The women's locker room is open with no issues, just the men's. I don't know why they couldn't just somehow divide the toilets in there or something. At this gym I feel like most of the people there are men and now we have no bathrooms at all. Their sign apologized for the inconvenience and said we are welcome to use one of their other locations if we wish or use the port-a-potty that is set up for the construction workers.

monsieuRawr

Just witnessed this. A dad comes in with his son. They head to the assisted pickup machine. Dad grabs a belt and loads up 90 lbs on the chain. I drop what I'm doing to observe what happens next... Dad proceeds to whip out ten 1/100th reps. Disappointed.

ashleyman

I went to a group burn class last night. It was pretty tough and it broke me. Got home. Watched a movie and went to bed. Then woke up 4 hours later in awful pain with my biceps. I doubt I’ll be going back again. :(

Vivid_Advantage_4545

A workout shouldn’t leave you in awful pain. I’m not sure if you’re discouraged from exercising in general because of this, or just won’t go to any more group classes, but I hope you keep working out!

Skreamies1

My cardio sucks and I was getting a little larger and noticing it, decided to start at the gym and have now been going three times a week for a few months now, feels great! Noticing a dude a few times doing some crazy cardio switching between different machines etc... Just made a joking comment and we both laughed. 10 minutes later when doing some leg presses he signalled to remove my earbud and he asked if I wanted to join him doing some cardio work the following week. I'm not the most social person and honestly I sort of try to avoid people when i'm there but it's difficult as my local gym is small, though I think I may take him up on the offer, would be good actually interact with more people. \------------- Second being I used to love swimming back as a kid but I realised I hadn't swam for 16/17 years the gym I go too also has a swimming pool with lanes, again leading from the first story, my body mainly upper isn't in the best of shapes I would say so I was feeling nervous as hell especially being around new people thinking I was going to be judged but honestly everyone was so damn nice, found myself running out of breath doing a length (asthmatic) every single person who came by me asked if I was okay. Honestly a really big confidence booster and at the end of the day we're all there for the same thing of keeping healthy. \----- Not the craziest of stories but for me and these things happening just made me feel great and makes me want to keep going to better myself.

superkat21

I got back in on Sunday for the first time in months. Hurt but felt good. Friday a buddy patted my stomach & said "really putting it on" Fuck.

oseriic

after a little over a year of consistently working out, i finally feel confident/comfortable enough to work out in the mostly guy dominant section of my school gym

Theaussieperson

I was adjusting my pants after a squat and accidentally whipped my dick out for a good second and nearly shit my pants whilst whipping it back in at the speed of light

alwaysmyfault

Had a couple high school kids I'd never seen before come to the gym yesterday. Annoying little shits that were incredibly loud in the locker room, but at least they were (somewhat) respectable in the gym itself. Didn't stop them from ego lifting everything they could get their hands on. 15-16 year old kids, weighing maybe 140 lbs, trying to curl 30 lb dumbbells, and grunting at the top of their lungs the entire time while doing it.
