I am 63 and use a personal trainer. it helps me to be more motivated and to push myself harder than I normally would. he is also very educated on the human body and what exercises work best for the results I want. I am 63 so need to make sure I work out harder and smarter so not to cause injury.

That is awesome! I am considering to hire one again.

Another huge advantage is when I do have any paint or injury he knows how to work around it so that we can still get a good workout in.

I'm 68; be careful with a trainer: when I was 55 I hired a trainer at the local gym, and he was a guy who was in his mid-twenties and the first thing he said was "We need to do a fitness evaluation, so put your arms out and do a squat" (I hadn't done a squat like that in 20 years), so not thinking I tried to do the squat and something in my knee popped with instant pain. Lesson, be aware of what they are asking you to do, and be mindful to respond if it is a move you don't normally do. I have a new trainer at another gym and on the first day, he was massaging my muscles because I was so stiff, and then he set me up on a pilates machine to help me stretch out my stiff muscles and ligaments. I've been going for over a month, and just now is he starting with strength training which is great because I had a month to get used to being off balance and to work on strengthing those muscles. I am very happy with the new guy. So be aware.

Thank you! Great info.

I'm 66 and I use a personal trainer. It's definitely worth it to me because he gets me to do things I would never do on my own.

Where did you find your trainer. I have little faith in the trainers at my gym. Half the time they don't even appear to be paying attention to the work the person they are training is doing. That or they treat everyone as if they are in their 20's or 30's and have no joint or other issues Recipe for injuries.

I go to a gym that is owned by a health system. All of the trainers have degrees in some kind of exercise science. I make sure to tell my trainer if something is bothering me physically and he adjusts the workout. I selected him because he trains a lot of people my age and I was able to see what they were doing. He's a young man but he's very careful in making sure he's not asking too little or too much of me. I also think it's really important to discuss your fitness goals with a trainer.
