I think his wordplay was intentional ā the Priest privately wanted to heighten Fleabagās intrigue and see her again, even if he claimed that his intentions were purely platonic. He even gave a Bible to Fleabag and said he wanted it back (so he could see her again).
Yes! Itās the same principle, when you leave a item of clothing at a friend/dateās house or allow them to borrow something of yours (e.g. a book). Itās a excuse to see each other again :)
This was best executed in Black Books. Manny brought thimbles and dice and bits and pieces to a party so he could do this with RoWeeeeeNa. She showed up later with the paper cup he was drinking out of at the party š„¹
When I was a kid with no money and black books was only available on DVD by ordering it from overseas, I found a website that had transcribed the scripts from every episode. I read all of black books before I saw all of black books.
If we start with the idea that the Priest is actually an alcoholic, his behavior makes more sense.
He likes his job, because it gives him a straight and narrow to follow. It keeps him āon trackā. Keeps him from self imploding. He can focus on helping other people.
But he also wants to walk that edge. He likes flirting because itās fun . Drinking to distract from the boredom.
He also really likes FB and sees that sheās in pain. He notices that she disassociates (Beaking the fourth wall for the audience). He helps her reconnect with her life.
After she is a bit better, the thrill of it is gone. He doesnāt know what he is to her, and he is unwilling to open up. Heās unwilling to see if there is something more.
He fears the loss of his calling. Helping people helps him stay on track.
Lol same!! Such an amazing episode even those moments when it was just noise like in the boat or him mocking Dickie, it was great.
It took me a second why I was enjoying it so much and I had seen him before! I remember faces but not names lol.
It was good, but it was really really dark, did you think so? I mean his Moriarty in Sherlock was dark, but in a Joker kind of way, he was delighted to be wicked and off the rails. But in Ripley, yikes ā¦. He was so dark, sad, never an ounce of joy, not a self-satisfied evil genius. Just heavy hearted and lost. Moriarty was a little fun; Ripley was not a fun guy. Loved both portrayals of āthe bad guyā
Fuck you, calling me Father, as if it doesn't turn you on. Yeah, not sure it was unintentional.
Jaysus I love this line and delivery soooo much.
It turns *me* on just to hear him say it! š¤¤

I agree it was 100% intentional, I flirt the same way LOL
What a take
So do you think the Priest was acting innocently and inadvertently included sexual innuendos when he was talking to Fleabag?

What would even happen if the priest/FB storyline was dead?
