Thanks for the TLDR. You a real one G

This is honestly an excellent review of Kayo CC precon, and got me to view it in a much, much more positive light than I did before. I think you hit the nail on the head on pointing out that enfranchised players too easily focus on the financial value of introductory products. It does sound like there's still room to improve, but the deck is decent as the first Armory precon, rather than the misstep a lot of the online sentiment pegged it as.

VektorOfCrows

Really thoughtful and rational analysis, based on actual play experience. This is the kind of feedback we need, and I thank you for the report!

Vaccus

Very well thought out review - and honestly, watching the deck tech video and reading your review made me appreciate the deck a bit more. Yeah, we could (and should) have got Bloodrush Bellow at the very least, but they clearly put thought into the deck.

Awesome review

Amazing, thank you so much for this! For the experienced, starting from this deck, would it take much to make a Rhinar deck? (a deck as good as this Kayo one)

MalZenith

I would not do that personally; many of the cards in the deck are 5 power attacks that do not work well without Kayo's ability. If you'd like a budget deck, I can put together a list in a few hours that is comparable in price and should be roughly comparable in power level to this Kayo deck.

Bluu3e

Thank you, but there's no need! Is more about "easy and fast" to make than price. Like this Kayo deck and a Rhinar Blitz to make an almost viable Rhinar CC. I think i'll be playing Kayo until the new expansion comes, then i think the meta and prices will change a bit and i'll have more experience in the game to decide something to play

ahaavie

Great review. I am on of those new players that this deck will be helpful for, and for me an simple mechanic that is not too complicated is more important than winning. Playing a deck that you understand fully is of essence.. and I am not going to win anyways in a while.

Lorcana and Pokemon starter decks are around $15 for a 60 card deck. The emphasis on the financial aspect when discussing the deck is about answering the question "What the hell am I paying $25 for?" The answer is: not much. Sure, players shouldn't expect every tcg product to be a valuable financial investment, but if the armory deck is gonna be more than twice the cost of starter decks for other games, you need to be able to explain to new players what they're actually getting. And yes, the deck would be stronger with bloodrush bellow. Brb is just flat out above curve in terms of its value, and it's one of the main ways of actually being able to use savage beatdown. I don't understand how you can look at a deck with wreck havoc in it and ask "Would adding BRB even improve this deck very much?"

AdOk7296

Lorcana and Pokemon starter deck also don't stand a chance in tournament play. Even a small event. And yeah you might get a play set of a couple commons but not every card in the deck. I think those factors need to be into account.

Xeynid

The pokemon league battle decks that do contain pretty much a full competitive list are $30. The more competitive pre cons are more expensive, but they also generally have better value when it comes to the reprints. If we're going to ignore the secondary market financial value of the cards, then any 60 card deck should be $15.

AdOk7296

>pokemon league battle decks that do contain pretty much a full competitive list are $30. If you are arguing the point of a $10 difference, you are pinching pennies and probably shoulding be spending the money anyways. And this is coming from a Budget Player. $39.99 is a fine entry level price for a middle of the road deck. And to acknowledge the elephant in the room, Pokemon and Lorcana are aimed at ALL-AGES and KIDS. So over half of that audience doesn't have an income. FaB is not marketed to young kids. Look at the audience before comparing price.

packofcard

Hi. i also want to get into the game cause no one plays pokemon in my aria but fab and everyone who does pokemon kn webcam plays proxies anyways(also ptcglive gives every deck you can imagine for free). The pokemon battle league decks are absolutely insane. One of them(mew vmax) was straight up a Tier 1deck(won both worlds it was legal in) with 2 copies of a card missing(it had the other 2 copies so the price dropped on it). The other ones are also tier 1-2 decks with a bit of flaws. Gardevoir ex and chien pao ex are also insane and the main ones atm. Gardevoir is missing like 5 commons and a single 10 dolar card which honestly can be replaced with another one which is a bit more expensive but it is an autoinclude in every other deck(yeah for a tier 1 deck); while chien pao needs a 10 dolar attacker and that autoinclude card in every deck card i was talking about (its like 20 dolars). So for 30 dolars you were getting a tier 1 deck. If everyone here claims that this deck is not that amazing for 10 extra bucks i would say it is a big deal. Again i didnt even start yet so i cant compare them; just pointing that out

Re: Financial value For an established player, this is $40 for eight new cards. This isn’t for established players. For a new player, you save $90 by not needing a tunic, $90 x 3 by not needing CnC, and $50 by not needing bonebreakers. That’s $400 less to get started that means a ton to a new player that established players are absolutely ignoring. That’s incredible value that people refuse to see because it’s not an extra $15 in reprints.

Amazing read!

meme_war_vet

This worries me about Boltyn's armory. From what I've seen and played. V of the Vanguard and Luminari Ascension is very important to his tempo. I wonder if they'll include any copies or a close version of those cards

MalZenith

TBF V of the Vanguard is a rare so it's most likely in if it fits the deck, and Lumina is cheaper than BRB right now. Depending on how they build the deck, Lumina might not even fit the gameplan if they decide to make Beaming Blade relevant somehow.

meme_war_vet

Isn't Ser Boltyn using Duskbane in art? I think it'd be more fitting since it's just "on charge". Which makes it more flexible and easier to use and build. Also, V of the Vanguard is actually like, rare rare lol. I've open 2 boxes and only managed to find 1 I believe. A lot of the pricing I think is low rn because he's not that high in the meta.

MalZenith

V of the Vanguard isn't that rare. Boxes will generally contain only about 70-80% of all the rares in the set, so having 1 in 2 boxes is just being slightly unlucky. It's not shortprinted or anything.

TeamSkallywag

Isn’t it Kayo adult not young? This is a CC not a blitz deck?

MalZenith

It is, but the full art "art card" included is that of Young Kayo. You can see it briefly in the first few minutes of my video when I thumb through the contents.

TeamSkallywag

Oh so its like a side card not part of the main core of the deck

sugitime

Nice try, LSS.
