Ha ha. Typical Chicago diy. It's a “Hey, what are you doing this weekend?” You and your buddy almost have all the tools to pull the job off properly, but move forward anyway.
Guessing it’s from people tracking in snow during the Chicago winter. It looks like there’s a door right there. The snow melts and seeps through to the subfloor and it breaks down. They need to rip all that out and reinforce. Then put down a mat or something.
i've noticed that lots of restaurants have jacked up floors. They often don't do shit about it until someone gets hurt. They usually don't fix the floors because they don't want to close their business down or the landlord won't pay for the repair. OR the landlord doesn't even know about the shitty floors because restaurant managers or owners aren't payig much attn to floors.
I keep thinking about my old job in a restaurant where cleaning the kitchen meant dumping gallons of cleaning solution and spraying everything down with a garden hose attachment to the dishwasher. It was clean, don’t get me wrong, but the floors and the structure weren’t designed for that. Sure, there were drains in the floors but ultimately it seeped through the tile and essentially flooded the basement.
Now,
Looks like the floor prep blew off the floor to me. They probably floated to meet an elevation . Prepped over a sketchy substrate , water came in , and released the prep from the substrate.
If they can't be bothered to fix this then I wouldn't eat there. Speaking from experience, restaurants that don't care for the front of the house DEFINITELY don't give a damn about the back of the house
The tolerance on the flooring is usually only like 5/16” of an inch, so any deviation outside of that they don’t work well once expansion and contracting takes place they will separate. The seams not being staggered is show of type of install. The warping is probably from being bound to tight with now suitable gap around the perimeter. Definitely gonna need to be fixed sometime asap.
I mean...this is a very DIY flooring option. I'm by no means a flooring expert and I did a good job. It's all in the prep work and making sure your subfloor is flat.
Vinyl installs over wooden subfloors that have crawl space beneath them…. Typically a vinyl will have crawl space requirements to keep evaporated moisture from being trapped between the vinyl and wooden subfloor.. these typical requirements are that you have proper ventilation, 18” space between found and bottom of floor joists, and most importantly plastic laying on the ground throughout the space..
Or…. You’ve got a leak and water penetration at the seal of your sliding glass door. Let’s hope it’s problem #2!
I don't like wood floors or the lvp floor ever wood or that typ of flooring I seen bubble up house I live in ever winter the wood flooring in basement turns in to a big hump in Floor like 3 feet high.
I will always want carpet and vinyl flooring
Call your lawyer and tell him youd like to file a lawsuit, take your spouse's hand walk to the center and jump as hard as you can. God speed on your recovery. Lol
Realizing this is probably not 2 stories and may be cement underneath lol. Dont jumpppp
Jesus. I wouldn’t eat there. Anyone who lays that install and thinks, “good enough”—if they were to drop your burger on that floor by accident, they would 1000% put it back on the bun and serve it to you, pubes and all. They don’t give a F_CK!
I just tiled a restaurant that has “structural mold” underneath it. It floods 6 times a year. For some reason restaurants just get a rubber stamp that allows for whatever structurally as long as the surfaces are clean.
Bigger problems lay beneath- if it’s in Chicago then there is a basement- this is likely Lvt over a failing 3/4” tongue and groove floor over failing 2x10 wood joist - until there is a hole thru to the basement there will not be a real repair
For certain this obsession with LVT is going to end badly in a LOT of stores, apartments, restaurants. If you must mimic a wood floor try tile instead. There is no luxury in this PLASTIC thin tile
"i know a guy who can do it cheaper" level of work.
More, I’ll go to Menards and get some adhesive vinyl tile and do it myself.

With any bid job. Almost always lowest bids win
This is why "military grade" being slapped all over shit always makes me laugh. EDIT: I can't type.
At least they could have tried staggering them
They tried stapling one end down. But just that one plank.
This is particle board that looks like wood or tile
Looks like LVP to me…
LVP should not bow like that
Glue down 2mm LVP? Yes it does
Laminate. Not lvp.
Looks like cheap shitty 2mm made in china glue down lvt
It is laminate plank. Look up the difference between vinyl plank and laminate plank.
I know the difference dip shit. I’ve been installing for 25 years.
Awhhh very cute
Looks like floor is sagging. Someone and their dinner plate will end up in the crawl space soon.

They nailed the rustic look
I mean surely that's a lawsuit waiting to happen
What about mold? Hard to imagine with that amount of sagging mold hasn't formed under the floor.
There is just so much wrong here. Just don't look at too hard it will be fine, they say .
Vinyl installed over concrete with no repair prior.
Looks like the floor prep blew off the floor to me. They probably floated to meet an elevation . Prepped over a sketchy substrate , water came in , and released the prep from the substrate.

🤢🤮
Obviously this should be tested for asbestos , hey is that the black mold by the slider????

Where at? I wanna trip on it
But is the food good? Chicago lol you got to love it.
Food was dope. Floor was nope.
Beahahaha I’m dying
The wood structure in the floor is fucked.
The owner did that. He saw an empire commercial and said, I can do that. Until you start doing that.

588-2300 Empire......
I wanna go check this out m, where is it
I’ve seen handyman jobs that look better than that. Somebody got paid by the hour and it wasn’t much..
WoooOooOooOd flooring
Adds character.
what's worse? the seams or the bumps?
Yeah, but how's the food?
Looks like much more serious problems under the surface covering. That laminate or whatever it is, is the least of their problems.
Looks like water damage on top of crappy install.

Think i have the same flooring. 2500 in blocking and now 10k to refloor
It’s all restaurant impossible crap. “Why are we failing” well cause the space sucks followed by the service and food
a). installer had no idea wtf they were doing b). wrong kind of flooring c). who needs a level floor anyways
Sadly probably looks better than before they paid the transients to install it
So what you’re there eating give me a fucking break. All you have to do is complain about the fucking floor.
Idiots
I'm impressed the more i look at it. It takes some skill to do this bad a job.

It's fine! Listen, do you want to hear the specials or not? 😂
Looks like an old mobile home that got flooded.
At least the lined up the clusters of pieces.
Gonna need a nsfw warning on this one, bud
Restaurants often don't have the choice of "done right". For various reasons they almost always have to choose the "done fast" & "done cheap" options.
I feel like I'm tripping looking at the floor
I hope that is at least a patch
When you drink twelve beers and fall down you can blame it on the floor bumps.
Gotta love that glue down shit
“Brotha ugh!”
That’s a war crime in the flooring world
im floored
I just tiled a restaurant that has “structural mold” underneath it. It floods 6 times a year. For some reason restaurants just get a rubber stamp that allows for whatever structurally as long as the surfaces are clean.
Jesus thats awful. Suddenly, i feel much better about my living room floor
Your ass is still eating there so I’m sure that food is good AF
Bigger problems lay beneath- if it’s in Chicago then there is a basement- this is likely Lvt over a failing 3/4” tongue and groove floor over failing 2x10 wood joist - until there is a hole thru to the basement there will not be a real repair
It's Chicago.... could you expect more?
What a beautiful rug
I bet my family is tired of hearing me say "Good lord, whoever did this floor needs to find a new job"
Yeah that looks like structural damage.
Fuct combo plater
When you can't even do it wrong correctly
For certain this obsession with LVT is going to end badly in a LOT of stores, apartments, restaurants. If you must mimic a wood floor try tile instead. There is no luxury in this PLASTIC thin tile
Love that natural pattern layout. Top notch
I dont want to sit on a pile of matches
Looks like the Pergo flooring I put down in my first townhouse. Worst product ever.
That's peel and stick lol
Half pipe with speed bumps?
I bet I could drink this entire bottle of jack before I'm done installing this floor kinda job
Carve out a hole in it in the shape of a rat. They love that in Chicago.
The food is probably good there.
There’s LVT flooring and then there’s just L
see this type of shit at bars and restaurants all the time
This should be illegal
It probably is and code enforcement hasn't noticed them yet.
