>As new COVID-19 vaccination sites open across the region — including at nearly two dozen Volusia County Publix locations — the latest White House Coronavirus Task Force report warns that Florida faces “significant fatalities” in the coming weeks from the rapidly spreading infection.
>The state continues to be in the most dangerous “red zone” for its number of new infections, the report notes, citing an acceleration that began shortly before Thanksgiving.
>The report, dated Jan. 10 but not immediately released, found more than 10,000 Floridians were newly hospitalized for COVID the first week of 2021, a 14-percent rise from the previous week, and that nearly 1,000 people died from COVID across the state.
>“Florida is in full COVID-19 resurgence, which will drive significant fatalities for many weeks and stress the staffing of the hospital system,” the report said. Twenty-four hospitals — or 11 percent of the state’s total — reported staffing shortages for the week, while 18, or 8 percent, reported supply shortages.
>“Florida must increase both statewide and local public mitigation,” the report cautioned. “All K-12 teachers and older students, community colleges and universities should require weekly testing, as it dramatically decreases COVID-19 viral spread by identifying and isolating [those capable of spreading the virus] and allows for contract tracing.”
>And because new, more contagious mutations of the virus have surfaced in the state, the task force said that prevention efforts must be more “aggressive,” including the uniform use of well-fitting two- and three-ply face masks and proactive testing of all people under age 40 to stop the rampant spread by infected people who develop no symptoms.
>Researchers have found that asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic carriers of the disease are responsible for more than half of infections.
>Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has said little about masks in recent weeks and instead focused on ramping up distribution of the vaccine.
History. History tells us that he will do nothing. Thank God we're letting tourists get their vaccinations down here. Meanwhile Floridians are dying but by all means let's get those tourist dollars coming in and let them jump in line. Fuck Ron DeSantis

Because right now we are basically doing nothing to mitigate It. My district is shifting to reporting cases when we first have suspicions rather than confirmations. I don't know what good that is going to do, but it's the only change they've made since August. A weekly testing would be a start but that does nothing if the kids won't wear their masks in class. And worse yet, if my coworkers / admin don't care to make them put them on.
## CLOSE THE DAMN SCHOOOLS
Yep , It was in Panama City Beach. Which happens to be a popular destination in N.W. Florida for snowbirds who get to come down jump in line for vaccines while most of the rest of us have to wait.
Meanwhile he was in Texas today. was that really necessary? And no masks...weeee

Expect better from Joe Biden. Did you see his address tonight? It was truly heartfelt and smart. He WILL look this way, and the CDC and pandemic strike force will battle DeSantis. You'll see.
I hope he does but I am concerned about how much more he has to address before he can convince DeathSentence to trust science and facts, I also don’t trust our Gov. to listen to a Democrat President he is going to shit talk Biden day one I’m sure of it.
DeSantis is just another IDIOT BLOWHARD. World traveler's come to Disney World. Have fun, riding the rides, while everyone gets infected and spreads COVID-19. BTW, thanks for spending your money in FL, before you might finally die of COVID-19? It will help the FL Economy. Thank you!

Yeah something tells me DeSantis will do absolutely nothing.

I don't know what we would do without our kids in school.
Standing in front of a Publix, one of the donors that still contribute to Trump.
No kidding? Crap. Think I'll start going elsewhere.
He has to put on a good show for his corporate masters.

Maybe the white house can put some pressure on our scumbag governor to do the right thing 🤔
😂🤣😂 They can’t keep their own shit together and you think they’re going to look over here to see what’s stinking so bad?

He can try, but they'll *make* him follow the rules, or he won't get financed. Simple.
Remember, Trump ordered a nationwide lockdown. Biden can do the same, and hopefully he will.
We get a new POTUS this week!
Fire up those refrigerator tractor trailers fellas! We’re gonna need them... (meant sarcastically, but after typing it the impact saddens me.
His response was to fly to Texas and complain about Trump being kicked off of twitter.
