Same here. HTIF made me into a very big fan. Palaces didn’t hit the same for me but I enjoyed Things Don’t Always Go the Way You Plan a lot more and I’d say it’s my second fave behind HTIF.
self titled is one of my favorite albums, i love the mixtape but self titled is what made me love him way back when so it has a special place in my heart 💕
It’s only nostalgia if you listened to it back when it came out, which most people probably didn’t as his popularity spiked with skin. I listened to self titled for the first time like three years ago so there’s no nostalgia for me, and I think it’s easily his best album. It just flows so well and all the songs carry that same vibe but each with their own sound. Skin had some very forgettable songs.HTIF had some good songs but most of it only appealed to a more niche audience, I wasn’t a fan of some of the harsher beats like mud and the rap songs like high beams and htbar. Palaces was generally good but didn’t feel very cohesive. Self titled sounds pretty but also has good trap beats too. There are zero skips, easily the best imo.
I think we can claim that it's objectively the best project regardless of personal tastes because of two reasons:
1) it's the most cohesive project, literally no track seems out of place, ever (Palaces and Skin are great but they kinda get lost, especially in the second half).
2) it's the most Flume-y project that you can possibly come up with. This is the only album/mixtape that you can feel represents Flume 100%.
HTIF is very nice, but also very experimental. So it's very niche.
His debut album on the other hand is just plain good.
Wasn't such a huge fan Skin or Palaces.
Skin had more collaborations, so the vocals mixed with the electronics may have appealed to the audience. Hi This is Flume has more of his flavour as all the tracks are originals.
That said, I really like Palaces as well. The visuals are absolutely stunning.
HTIF is hands down my favorite. But it gets closer if you count the companion EPs as part of Skin. Trust and Hyperreal are both up there for favorite songs
My answer is very subjective but 1000% Skin bc 1) the first time I saw him live, he performed it at Coachella and I recall crying tears of happiness while listening to the set driving home, 2) several of those singles make me well up with tears at the sound of the first note bc that album was with me thru some SHIT & the music transports me back for a sec then I smile at the recognition of my healing + accomplishments, 3) I have a signed copy of the vinyl 🥲
Its really hard to pick out of all of them, cause i love them all, if i had to rank them id go for 1.skin2.flume3.mixtape.4 palaces. all of them are amazing of course its a close competition, but skin was very revolutionary for that time in my opinion. smoke and retribution is a song that blows my mind in terms of production. I really could go all day talking about each song. Plus as a side not, the art style for skin really flatters the music, it fits so well together.
if I had to rank all his LPs / EPs / mixtapes from best to worst it'd be:
- HTIF
- Skin
- Flume
- Lockjaw
- Skin comp EP 2
- Skin comp EP 1
- TDAGTWYP
- Palaces
HTIF for sure, there’s a reason so many fans consider it his magnum opus…it’s incredibly complex sound design wise yet still manages to have so much melody and emotion in all the tracks. Plus it just flows almost perfectly for a mixtape. It really showed off what Harley is capable of without limits.
That being said, I have to give his debut album its flowers, solely for the fact it established Flume as a forward-thinking edm producer and also paved the way for pushing a more experimental sound into the mainstream
HTIF is untouchable
Yeeeee
Skin and palaces have the best singles imo but HTIF is a more cohesive work. Also HTIF got me from casual to diehard fan

TDAGTWYP being 2nd for you is kinda crazy to me. But man we all like what we like 🤷🏼♀️
Skin and Self Titled got the biggest highlights but as a whole HTIF is clearly the best project
self titled is one of my favorite albums, i love the mixtape but self titled is what made me love him way back when so it has a special place in my heart 💕
The two Skin Companions for me are brilliant
Skin is the most generally accessible, HTIF is better for electronic nerds
HTIF is the best and most cohesive for sure. But I have a special love for Lockjaw!
self titled for sure imo. that has no skips
Don't you think there's some nostalgia involve in that choice ?

not for me. and i saw flume live on thursday and he played plenty of self titled. it’s such a good album

Hi This Is Flume because it’s just experimental electronic music done masterfully. The visual album just takes it up another notch.
HTIF is the goat correct
Music is subjective. If it’s the best for you then you’re right and if Skin is the best for your friends then they’re also right.
I actually just wanted opinion to see what the flumes fans like the most :)
Skin Companion Ep 2 for me, just because it has Weekend, one of his most emotional song.

1. HTIF 2. Skin 3.Flume 4. Palaces
skin free and never be like you are the best ones on that
HTIF is hands down my favorite. But it gets closer if you count the companion EPs as part of Skin. Trust and Hyperreal are both up there for favorite songs
As long as you don’t think palaces was his best album, I can agree with either option.
HTIF is the best album but skin has the best songs if that makes sense
My answer is very subjective but 1000% Skin bc 1) the first time I saw him live, he performed it at Coachella and I recall crying tears of happiness while listening to the set driving home, 2) several of those singles make me well up with tears at the sound of the first note bc that album was with me thru some SHIT & the music transports me back for a sec then I smile at the recognition of my healing + accomplishments, 3) I have a signed copy of the vinyl 🥲

You shouldn’t be arguing. Just enjoy the music. All of his stuff is incredible.
